Booked two activities through Snorkel Bob's during my recent trip to Maui. We booked the sunrise bike tour and a Scuba dive. They were very non-pressure which was refreshing in Maui as all other activity vendors are way pushy! Andrew gave us a bunch of info about several activities we were interested in doing but did not push us to book anything with them until we were sure about what we wanted to do. He was totally cool and honest, giving us his opinions on which activities were better than others and which we could probably skip. I had called the bike tour company myself at first hoping to book a tour the next day but I was told they had no openings for four days. That's when I went back into Snorkel Bob's and Andrew made a phone call and got us booked for the next day. All in all, great experience with these guys. We came here on a saturday and rented our snorkel gear, the lady that helped us out was awesome. She made sure our masks fit perfectly and my hubby's mask was the right prescription so he can see better. We got a coupon for a free floatation belt since I can't really swim. But they helped us out determine which would be better for my exerience. The no fog stuff works great. We had no problems with the gear at all. Return this morning was great with a warm welcome back and how was it? Got to see a puffer fish, asst other types too but the kicker was we got to swim with 2 sea turtles! It was awesome! Snorkel Bob's is the place to go if you want to do some snorkeling in Hawaii. We went to the Kihei location with some family who were first time snorkelers (my wife and I had our own gear already). The super-friendly staff set our relatives up with great rental gear, and told us that they could pay for the two days they knew they'd be using up front, but if they decided to keep the gear and snorkel longer, they could return it later to any Snorkel Bob's location and just pay whatever the difference would be. They ended up loving to snorkel, so they kept the gear three more days and snorkeled on more islands, ultimately returning the gear to Snorkel Bob's in Kona on the big island. The prices were reasonable, the gear was great, and the staff was fantastic. They gave great recommendations on where to snorkel, along with wonderfully detailed directions on how to get there (landmarks, etc.). Yay Snorkel Bob's! read more

My boyfriend and I went into this place and we were met by an extremely rude woman who was loud, bitchy, and bossy. She immediately told us to "have a seat" before we had even discussed prices, what we wanted, etc.... We ended up leaving because being around this woman was just too unbearable to stand. read more

We reserved our gear online and used the super-secret web coupon to get a free float for my wife to use. Due so some glitch, the reservation wasn't in the system when we went to pick up everything up in Kihei, but it showed up in my email a day later. It turned out that we didn't need a reservation and the guy behind the counter was great. He handled everything to get us the best price, including the coupon deal. We rented by the week, which I highly recommend. There are so many great snorkeling opportunities on Maui that we could have used our stuff every day of the week and still not hit all the good spots. Snorkel Bob's has an after-hours drop slot off right next to the door, so we were able to return our gear on the way out of town. We only came here for gear and did not ask for any advice, etc. They were helpful in providing prescription goggles for my boyfriend. My gear worked great. I also rented a shortie wetsuit for a day ($5) because my small body apparently cannot keep warm in 75 degree waters, (can you say lame!?). I wish they had smaller sized womens wetsuit tops because I actually had to wear the kids largest size. Hope I didn't stretch it lengthwise too much! We also rented a boogie board for a day, which was nice. Read all of the information on their pamphlet - it makes you a well-informed and mindful snorkeler. read more

Nice equipment and a decent price UNLESS you are five minutes after the time circled on your receipt (that they don't explain in enough detail)...if that happens you are charged about half the week's fee for a late charge. Were we late? Yes. Did they explain the policy in clear language? No. All she said was that it was due Friday - no time was given - and if we wanted to drop it off Thursday night they had a drop box. What she needed to say is "your equipment is due next Friday by 11 am sharp". And that the computer won't allow them to override the extra charge. Or so they say. Plenty of places to rent gear on Maui. I'll be going someplace else in the future. read more

Incredibly helpful. Highly recommend for gear and boating activities! We got all our gear here. I even got a -10 corrected snorkel mask and tried the double-valve twin chamber snorkel. Seems like it's easier to scuba... We had such a great time getting the gear that we signed up for the Molokini trip. What a total blast! The crew was amazing and took us to a quiet spot at Molokini and then to a little know turtle area. We were all cautioned to respect the turtles as there would be so many. The turtles are amazing...I want to figure out how to assist in their preservation and enhancement. ...you'd be snorkelling and looking at the fish and all of the sudden a turtle would come past and (no touching) and just swim right by...they'd come close enough that you felt they were looking at you. Our captain said, "give them plenty of room, slow small movements, be slow and quiet". It felt like they were looking back right at you. Highly recommend. We came on this trip before a major medical procedure and my family member was a bit sick and they took such great care of her. There were also several other children on our boat and they really watched over all the kids with a slide and noodle tubes. They counted them when we came on board and figured out who belonged with whom. They seemed to seem track of them as we were encouraged to move around and ask questions. I was actually surprised that all those children put on the gear and had as much fun as the adults. When moored, the boat was big enough that it was quiet on one end of the boat for the snorkel group and the kids used the slides. It was a crack up to be snorkelling and surface to see them going down the slide into the ocean. What laughter. The Crew served a ton of good food, drinks and little know animal, geologic and biological fun facts. They encouraged everyone to sunscreen up, got folks into all kinds of gear quickly and cheerfully (wet suits and even had a scuba-like options). We tried other outfits and had poor experiences. Hope your trip was as great as ours. This was well worth the money. read more

Absolutely amazing. They were open on thanksgiving (normal hours 8-5), were very attentive and friendly. We got the perfect prescription goggles, snorkels and just the right fitting fins for each of us. Plenty of options, stock and friendly service. Highly recommend them! We rented snorkel equipment from West Maui location. Unfortunately one of the masks and snorkels were broken. We didn't realize until we arrived in south Maui, so we stopped at the Kihei location to get a replacement. Shayla was super helpful and thorough. She gave us replacement equip, communicated with her manager and our original rental location to arrange a credit. So grateful to Shayla for her help and we got to enjoy lots of great snorkeling spots. It's nice that Snorkel Bobs has several locations on the island! read more

We came to maui for 3 days and chose this place given the reviews, basically I went to this place without shopping around, huge mistake... I was given a really bad deal, 2 low quality snorkel masks for $73... For 3 days, one of the most expensive places... No other services were given with the payment, plus I had to pay $5 for a plastic bag supposedly to put my keys underwater which broke after one use (just slow snorkeling). If you just shop around prices go down as much as $9/week for 2 gears just next door at the rainbow mall. So I would say it's a rip-off. Stay clear of this place... And shop around read more

Eh, the staff isn't too friendly. I guess dealing with tourists all day every day bums them out... but there's not really a better choice for renting snorkel gear and they have locations everywhere. Yay! The friendly and helpful staff are what make this place awesome; though, to be honest, I didn't visit any other snorkel shops to make a genuine comparison. However, when we rented our fins (we all had our own masks already), we were given lots of attention to make sure we were choosing our sizes and given tons of advice on the best snorkeling spots. They even give you a little handout with a list of spots and lots of rules to heed (regarding the respecting of wildlife and wearing eco-friendly sunscreen and all that jazz). Snorkel Bob's a a really convenient way to rent quality snorkel gear at low prices. They have many locations in Maui and also on the other islands, and you can rent at one store and return at another, even on a different island. Transaction was completely hassle-free, and we got fitted for masks and fins very quickly. We left a credit card and asked them to charge it for the total time we would be using the gear, which ended up being about a week. The gear was really well made and I never had an issue about it leaking. They even inlude a bottle of anti-fog stuff, which was nice. Will rent from Snorkel Bobs again when back on the islands!! read more

We rented our stuff for a week. Great gear- sturdy and reliable. Loved all the recommendations for snorkeling spots. The customer service - local girl w 28 nieces and nephews, was A+! She was friendly, made us laugh and was able to multitask when other customers came into the shop. Used the convenient drop box they provide because we made the return at 9PM. Small store but a good place to buy or rent gear, or to sign-up for trips and activities on the island. We have bought some gear here as well as booked a charter through them. Prices are reasonable and staff very friendly and helpful. We haven't had an issues dealing with them and would use them again. read more

We went here to rent snorkel gear. It's pretty basic stuff and they let the equipment do the selling so they don't need to be pushy. They have three levels of gear for rent, all with the same fins and snorkel. The only real choice is the mask. The $9/week mask is an old school oval with rubber gasket. We went for the $25/week mid line which worked out excellent. We liked the fact that we could rent in Maui and returned it in Ohau. They also arrange trips, which in hindsight seemed to be a good deal. Oh well, next time... read more

Great service, will return! Stopped in with my fiancee on Dec 14th to rent some snorkel gear. There were two families in front of us and it seemed so busy that we almost turned around and went somewhere else. Other staff was helpful, but Zach made sure we knew we were taken care of and got us out of there as quickly as possible despite the melee of customers. Give this guy a raise, he's awesome! Gear was better than the other shops we had poked around in the night before, and the prices to rent are good enough that it's not worth buying and hauling your own stuff out on vacation. Went in to rent snorkel gear for the week. Having no idea exactly how to snorkel, we got some great technical advice and excellent beach recommendations. We went back the next day to get a boogie board. I really felt like every one who helped us went above and beyond, they were all so nice and helpful. Great gear, great people, easy locations, great price. We snorkeled everyday, and renting from the resort would've cost many times more than this. We got the mid-grade masks, and a beach setup with 2 chairs, umbrella and cooler. We might skip the chairs next time, and it was windy so the umbrella wouldn't stay put. But, still we used them a lot. We rented from the Lahaina location, which is now on Front St. Don't get sucked in by those other guys with ultra-cheap rentals with a free boat trip... it's a trip in the afternoon when the wind is up and the water is cloudy and worse, it's a set up for a time share hard sell. read more

I wish we had skipped Snorkel Bob's altogether. My fiance and I rented the upgraded equipment -- which was so cheap and dysfunctional that I wonder what the standard snorkeling equipment they provide is like. The free snorkel gear we received from tour groups was far, far better than the leaky junk provided by Snorkel Bob's. Also, I specifically asked if there's an extra charge for returning the equipment a few hours later than when we rented it. The woman who rented our equipment to us said, "Oh, just bring it back before 5 PM," which was odd since I know there's a dropbox. When I brought the equipment back at 1:00 PM, she charged us an extra $20 or so because she said we brought it back after 8:00 AM, which is when we rented it. What? I asked specifically asked if we would incur extra charges for returning the equipment a little later. If she had told me that they are very strict about the 24 hour cycle (even rental cars aren't that strict!), I would've returned the equipment earlier. When I went back to my car, I saw that she actually charged us MORE for the late fee than she should've, because we actually rented our equipment at 9:00 AM rather than 8:00 AM as she had said. Do not bother with Snorkel Bob's. They'll rent you with leaky, cheap snorkeling gear while trying to get you to go on a helicopter tour or to a luau. It was overall just a very bad experience and we won't be returning or recommending to our friends. read more

Easy convenient rental with service and area suggestions with directions. The mask fitting service is ok but should actually put strap over head as well. The mask I was given was awful once I got in the water. The nose area filled up with water and even after properly applying "fog goop" that was provided my mask fogged up horrible and couldn't see clearly. The design of the mask left a sore spot between my eyes. I returned to the store the next day explained the problem and was immediately given a better fitting mask and complimentary upgraded snorkel breathing tube. What a difference my experience was with a proper clear mask. So glad I went in and had the issue so promptly corrected without a hassle. The return was so convenient since it can be at any location 24/7. Thank you! read more

Cheap place to rent gears, very easy going and convenient. They have multiple locations you can drop off your gears.

Clearly false advertising. Followed the yelp check-in offer - check-in to get free board or turtle bag; the guy at the counter was clueless; after a while and 5 calls he figured out that this is the same offer they have in store - you have to book 2 activities with them. Otherwise, regular price is 27 bucks for a week - we are better off getting one at Safeway for 15! read more

Not particularly impressed with Snorkel Bob's. My wife and I stopped in looking to buy rash guards, rent snorkels and get some advice on good spots around Kihei and Makena that would be protected and have decent viz on a really windy day. Staff was nice, but more interested in selling us a tour, didn't have reasonable answers for our questions (and didn't acknowledge they didn't know) and merchandise selection was VERY limited. Wasted stop. We had much better luck at Maui Dive Shop for what we were looking for. read more
