That being said, I've gotten almost immediately sick twice now from eating chicken breast/thigh from here. That was with chicken that had a packed date of the same day and the day prior - and I once saw chicken that was 2 days past the sell by date still sitting out. I eat a fair amount of chicken and haven't had this issue anywhere else and it's concerning for the food handling practices. I also bought frozen pirogies a few weeks ago and got home (a 5 minute drive) and opened them to find them all clumped frozen together in a huge thing of frost - they clearly had not remained frozen at one point. I know it's probably not easy being a small store in a rural area but sadly I will only be stopping in for last minute pantry items if needed - I won't be buying fresh food anymore - food poisoning is seriously not fun.

I wish that the food handling had better glove cleanliness and cross-contamination awareness, and also that there wasnt rotten hamburger patties in the meat case the day i was there. I was impressed by the holding temperature for the meatballs and sauce. They were piping hot....Like PIPING for real. The meatballs tasted good and the sauce is good too. They cut the meatballs in half on the subroll and arranged the halves on the bread by gloved hand. The same gloves had touched deli slicers, scales, deli meat, a switch in the side of the oven and many other surfaces while I stood in line. Ive eaten at sketchy places before (too many according to my husband) but my brain was begging me to reconsider my choice this time. However at that point I figured I had already committed to the 6" meatball sub i had ordered. I shouldnt have. Less than 2 hours later it turned into a disaster.

There is a fairly good selection of Italian tomato and marinated items to support the local Italian population. Prices seemed a little higher than what I am used to paying. A preferred customer card is required for sale prices. The store is conveniently close to the Appalachian trail so hikers are able to refuel. The surrounding Berkshire mountains make an ideal setting for the store.

Fresh foods, fresh coffee, fresh, pastries, fresh premade foods, fresh packaged meats, and cheeses from the locals, and don't forget the jams! I have officially made three trips this week :-) They also have the most fabulous juice options! Earlier this week, I chose the ginger lemonade. Very heavy with natural ginger and I love it. It's very tasty by itself, but be ready for that kick of ginger. I happen to really love ginger and know how good it is for me, so I went back and got more. Now, that being said, it is wonderful, mixed with Absolut with a little bit of sugar! L O L ;-) My son and his beautiful wife and kids moved to the Berkshires for his job!! They try to support every local business, because they own one as well!! What a beautiful area!!
