Went for Happy Hour Yesterday, the website clearly states HH from Tues-Friday 4-7. Arrived around 5:30 asked for the HH menu, was told by the disinterested bartender that there was no HH today but I could order the Taco's because it was Tuesday?? Did i mention that there was know one there when i arrived. My friend and I ordered a few appetizers which would have normally been on HH but paid full price. the bartender literally had her back to us 95% of the time on her social media. I once had to call her name 4 times before she acknowledged me. After the appetizers and overpriced drinks she not once thought it was a good idea to remove our empty plates from in front of us. Because the weather was so crappy we decided to order a meal. We had to ask the server could he take our old plates to make room for the meal. At around 8pm the, i believe, shift manager mentioned to the bartender because they only had 6 customers they were going to close at 8:30pm. I purposely didn't say anything because the door said 10pm. At around 8:15 they started cleaning around us and said it was last call. Presented the check with the automatic 18% gratuity and pretty much that was it. Food was ok, service was trash, ambiance wasn't bad at least they had a good play list. Don't advertise a HH and because you don't have enough customers decide you're not going to honor it. Also, get some adults who actually care to run your bar and reception staff, not these kids who care more about being on social media then attending to the needs of your customers. I dont even mind paying higher prices for a nice ambiance which this place has but it is completely unacceptable that it takes an hour and a half for one app and drinks to come out. I finally was able to try out SoBe...whhoooopp! I've heard amazing and not so amazing things about this place. I didn't come for Happy Hour, or for a night out, but for lunch..lol. I suppose my experience may be different from others. Yes it is located in a strip mall area, but so what. Once you walk inside, this place is absolutely beautiful! There is a club like side and a side that is a little quieter and more lit. A stage is centered right in the middle for live bands, and there is a roped off, I suppose VIP area. The bar appeared to be extensive, and the food menu is pretty fair in size, as they have a lot to offer from Caribbean based food, to Southern, salads, and the like. On this day I tried the oxtails. Chile. Reminded me of what I would get from family. They were so flippin good! They came with rice and peas, cabbage, and plantain. Everything was great. My friend got the fried chicken dinner. She said that it was great, but I thought the portion was crazy small. We both had dessert, bread pudding for me. and apple cobbler for her. They were both huge portions, and they were both quite tasty. The price point is fair considering what you are receiving, the ambiance, and all that jazz. Last night was my first time at SoBe and I have to give it high marks! The decor is classy and up to date, spacious and offers plenty of light. Plenty of parking too. I sat at the long and well attended bar, ordered a meal and beverages. The shrimp & grits were delicious and worth the 26 mile drive from VA. I had a good wine so I couldn't go wrong. There appeared to be a couple of large parties who arrived but the staff was on point without missing the rest of the patrons. There contemporary jazz band was tight Saturday night. I usually like to go dancing but this spot seems well suited for couples of groups to enjoy conversations without shouting to be heard over the music or background din. I'm giving this spot a rare 5 stars as the only thing to improve is to be closer to where I live! read more

Here are the things they need to work on - Customer Service: Our food took over 80 minutes to get to us and not one staff member ever said anything until we asked about it. Once we got our food no one asked was everything okay. I asked for a refill of water and I never got it. Just poor. The Food: Inconsistent and sloooowwww. My chicken dinner was very good. My friend seafood pasta was not. He said the seafood didn't seem fresh. To be fair I'll tell you the good too! Nice wines, God drinks, beautiful and clean lounge with friend lly customers. I was excited to try this place for brunch however I received a not so pleasant greeting at the front from the manager, Latisha. She waved and pointed which way for me to go rather than greeting me with actual words. Upon being seated, we were advised they were out of waffles. That sucked because the brunch menu has less than 10 entrees to begin with. We ordered bottomless mimosas and the waitress would disappear for 20 minutes at a time. We asked for less orange juice because it tasted like pure orange juice. The waitress advised the mimosas were pre made and it's nothing she can do about it. We ordered the a few menu items along with turkey sausage. I think leather would've cut better than the sausage. I wasn't able to cut the turkey sausage with a knife. We let the waitress know that we'd like to have the turkey sausage removed from the check since they weren't edible and we'd finished our meal (she'd disappeared for 20 minutes once the food came). She let us know the manager, Latisha, advised she was unable to remove the sausage because it was already made and that we could pick something else from the menu. We requested to speak with Latisha and she walked up (again without greeting the table properly) saying oh I hear that you're frustrated. She never introduced herself, apologized, asked if there is anything else we needed, asked us how was the service or even thanked us for our business. She was extremely rude and unprofessional. In short, she called the waitress a liar and then removed the sausages from the check. Latisha needs an attitude check and a training class in the basics of customer service. I wouldn't let her manage the squirrels in my backyard let alone an entire restaurant. The only good thing was the fish and grits (the only reason I gave them 1 star). Sobe has really come a long way in the wrong direction. I remember a really nice spot with great ambiance food and music. Charging $20 for a restaurant is outrageous, charging and pocketing an additional $10 for no ID is also outrageous. The food and drinks are still pretty good however it's hard to enjoy your evening when your bartender is being a complete diva and making everything about him. Victor was his name, he didn't introduce himself or offer his name yet refused to address paying customers unless they called him by said name. A friend of mine warned me which is why I knew how to address him. He was very unpleasant and bragged about watering down drinks for paying customers he didn't care for. We made the best of the evening because it was a 50th birthday celebration and we all drove an hour to go down there. We don't plan on going back unless some serious changes are made and we definitely will never order from Victor again. I went here with the company I work with since it's nearby and unfortunately I didn't find it to be the best experience. The restaurant/lounge itself is very nice and upscale. It took me by surprise considering it's located in a strip mall. However, when we get to the service and food some major improvements were needed. It took about an hour and half if not more to get our food. I understood that as a group of 15 it would probably take a little longer than normal but our server never came over once to check up on us and let us know that our food was delayed. I ordered the Cajun Fettucine with chicken which was ok. A little over seasoned and salty in my opinion but edible. My coworker got the fried chicken which looked one hundred times better than my dish and he loved it so if your going there, get that! Remember to pull your server aside if you get a chance to get a refill on water because that didn't happen on its own. Overall, it's an ok place to go if your in the area and I think it might be worthwhile for drinks. But don't go there starving because you might end up more than a little aggravated. read more

Great Brunch! The Good - Gorgeous atmosphere, lovely table settings, nice staff, no wait for seating, and even a clean bathroom! The Bad - Honestly, I came across nothing bad during my visit. Overall - Lovely experience! It was my first time even hearing of this place; we had arranged to go somewhere else but that location was unable to accommodate my group. We arrived at 12:15 and we were immediately seated. We ordered the brunch buffet along with bottomless mimosas. This is a nice, trendy spot with a nice live band on Saturday's. The ambiance and decor are very nice and patrons are classy. I would definitely described SoBe as chic and sophisticated. I especially liked the large fish tank. Since I visited the weekend before Valentines Day, they had a special, limited menu. For an appetizer, I tried the CRISPY SHRIMP. It was very good. The bread on the outside of the shrimp was just the right texture and taste - not too cripsy, but crispy enough. The shrimp were large. The Thai sauce and the pickled cabbage were the best part and absolutely delicious!!! The shrimp, sauce, and pickled cabbage paired well and there was definitely a nice layer of flavors when eaten altogether. For my entree, I tried the MARYLAND BLUE CRABCAKES. They were delicious as well, however, I wish they included more sauce and had a better presentation. The crabcakes came with a side of hush puppies and coleslaw. But each of the sides were put in two big bowls that they sat atop the plate with the crabcakes, which were pretty much under the bowls. All and all, it was good. It was the first time I ordered the Stong Island, after seeing the table next to us have the drink. It was really good. The live band was definitely bumpin and played their version of a lot of 90s music. Brought back memories. lol. The only things I would say I didn't like is how close some of the tables were to each other and service is slow. It seemed it took forever just to get our drinks. And they didn't bring our drinks out at the same time. By time I finished my wine, they were just bringing out my friends drink. I will definitely visit here again. read more

Went there yesterday for Cinco, made a reservation even followed the dress code on website. Got there on time, it was obvious the dress code wasn't enforced. Moving on ordered appetizer and drinks and water for the table. Water showed up 30 mins later and drinks 15 mins after that. Ordered food including the vegetarian Taco, 30 mins later server comes by with the food and said they don't have ingredients to make the vegetarian taco, still no appetizer by the way. Immediately asked to cancel remaining orders and for the bill as we were ready to leave, the server then brings out the appetizer that was ordered almost an hour and a half earlier. In addition other tables that came after were served. Our server walked past our table several times without checking in on us. I like supporting minority owned businesses but this has been one of the worst customer experiences I've ever had. read more

A coworker and I decided to visit SoBe for lunch last week. It was my first time visiting and I was impressed as soon as I walked in the door. SoBe is very modern and upscale inside, it's also pretty spacious. It wasn't busy, so we were seated right away. I ordered calamari as my appetizer and shrimp and grits as my main meal. My coworker, who had been to SoBe once before, told me the plates sizes weren't that big but I found that to be untrue for the dishes I ordered. I had plenty of leftovers. Everything was delicious. Last but not least, our server provided good customer service. He came back to check on us and we didn't have to wait long for the check. I will definitely have to make plans to visit SoBe's again. Had to argue with my friend on leaving a review cause she wants this to stay a secret. When I say I was 100% satisfied, I will lay out what and why. Here we go. Entrance: we came six minutes after they opened and was immediately seated by our server. Food: buffet with brunch food. I had the salad, Mac and cheese, collard greens, fried fish, shrimp and grits, fried chicken, bacon, poached veggies, fruit. She had all that (we shared) plus the cake and the sausage. EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT. I didn't take pics cause I ate immediately lol and didn't think of it. We were there for over three hours and the food was always hot and fresh in the buffet, NO complaints. Drinks: we got the bottomless mimosas. Of the juice choices, I chose (and stuck to) the cranberry and she tried them all and pivoted from orange to pineapple juice. EVERY MIMOSA WAS GOOD. Usually with bottomless, you get terrible, flat drinks.........i had four and EACH was tasty and perfect. Our server checked on us BEFORE we were done with each glass. They keep these delicious drinks coming. Service: I can not rave about this enough. This service was amenable, consistent, not constantly interrupting conversation but somehow always knew when we were ready for plates to be cleared or for new drinks. EXCELLENT service. EVERYONE was friendly. A1 server, bussing service, buffet service. Everyone friendly. EVERYONE. Decor: nice, contemporary decor. Mostly silver and gray, i would go on a date here OR bring my mother here. They played gospel music the first hour LMAO but I didn't mind; praise the Lord! Then segued into smooth jazz and then more contemporary R&B. We were early on a Sunday so it was mostly a black church crowd but very chill, very clean and spacious. Bathroom: I am SPECIFICALLY judgmental of bathrooms because if you serve a lot of drinks, I will see your bathroom at least once. CLEAN. Clean the whole time! It was clean, well stocked, spacious, never a line. The lighting sucks for selfies or makeup lol but it was a bathroom I could feel comfortable in. Overall: the manager (I assume) approached us before we left and asked how we enjoyed the service. I tipped OVER 20% and mentioned how attentive our server was. I was just so happy to be in a black owned business supporting my community and providing an excellent experience. I WILL be back and encourage my people to come.......but don't want it to get too popular and crowded (had empty tables from 11am Sunday when it opened until we left at 130pm). It's perfect as is. Though I don't want my review to encourage too many people to crowd out their loyal diners, this is a 5 star Sunday brunch experience and y'all need to know. I WILL be back. Great entertainment with mediocre food. This is was my first here. The atmosphere at this place is very nice. The decor was well put together. We had reservations for 7 pm. The hostess was friendly and seated us upon arrival. The waiter was nice. He gave just the right amount of attention. He was knowledgeable about the menu and was able to make recommendations. The band was good and in between their sets music is played. Live music is always a plus. Please remove R. Kelly from the music play list especially with the African American female patrons. Lastly, the food. And trust me I didn't save it for last because it was the best. The food presentation is impeccable. The portions and the way the food tastes is not reflective of the inflated prices. I ordered the Jerk wings for my appetizer and they were as bland as could be. Not spicy at all although that was the claim and my reason for trying them. Next, I tried the fried Red Snapper. A small piece of filet over what was supposed to be garlic mashed potatoes. Not very flavorful. I also just had to try the Lobster macaroni and cheese. That macaroni and cheese was as dry as the Sahara desert. The drinks are also inflated in price and watered down. I tried the Peach Beach and asked the waiter for something stronger. Came here March 16 with my cousin I've only been here once for Happy hour and sat in the lounge area, But this time I made a reservation for dining as my cousin has not been here before and wanted to truly experience this place and since you would have to get here super early for the lounge area I decided to make a reservation,so we were seated and asked all the formal dining questions we ordered our drinks I loved mine an apple crown royal sumthin it was refreshing i loved my cousin didn't think her first drink was strong enough so she ordered a different one on the results of our server who helped her out for starters I order the calamari she ordered the jerk wings she didn't care for them she said they lacked the Heat they advertised and seasoning she wasn't happy with them my calamari was good love there dipping sauce with it although I could not finish them it's made to order for two, On to the main dishes I order the crusted lamb chops and she was fighting between the stuffed shrimp and fried red snapper since she has never had snapper before so I suggested since she hadn't to go with something else she didn't she got the snapper she liked the fish she also made a review said it was seasoned she did not like her lobster mac n cheese well I don't blame her,from start it looked Dry!!.and it was barely any cheese! I didn't see lobster either. At this point we both should have suggested they take that back or redo it or take it off,..But didn't happen she ate all of her fish as she enjoyed it thoroughly but her other sides she Did not enjoy. As for my dish the lamb wasn't crusted as I thought maybe the edges would be but it was none the less Delicious!!! Cooked Exactly how I asked and my garlic mash wanted me to make me slap my Momma!! Visited during happy hour. They have a few interesting options on the happy hour menu to include lobster Mac and cheese bites and charbroiled oysters. The drinks are at a nice price point between $6-7. It was very quiet when I visited, the ambiance/decor is gorgeous. With it not being busy, I would have thought that the service would have been a bit better, maybe more attentive. Not the case. I had the charbroiled oysters at 1/2 dozen for $7 and they were WAAAAAAYYYY too salty, I waited long enough for them so, I just suffered through it, but I will not make that mistake again. I had both of the signature cocktails because I wanted to try them the Sobetini and Sobe Sunrise they were both very good and offered at $7 during happy hour, one thing I really liked is that it wasn't rail alcohol used either. This restaurant was the absolute worst, I went this past Sunday for brunch and I'm embarrassed for bringing my party here.. first off there is no buffet which I understand but I assumed they would just bring out the food... nope. You order one meal and that's it.. they also serve you in a carryout container at the table. We got there at 11am when it opens but the service was beyond horrible, we ordered bottomless mimosas and had to look for our water anytime we wanted a refill. If we are doing bottomless you are suppose to make sure our cups are never empty. I ordered the salmon which was not good to me so I had my waiter to come over and she asked me "what didn't I like about it because they can't take food back" and I told her I simply didn't like it. The manager came over and I let him know I didn't like the salmon and he asked the same thing "what didn't you like?".. I once again said I simply did not like it.. you could hear the attitude in his voice after questioning me and he took my plate and walked away.. the manager then came back and told me I was getting him in trouble for having to return a "perfectly cooked meal". I told the manager while you may feel it was perfect it just wasn't good to me and to remove it off my bill and refill my drink.. to bring this review home they told us at 12:45 that we could not have anymore bottomless mimosas.. every restaurant in the area I have ever been to for brunch gives you a FULL two hours or whatever your time limit is. Wow. Today was my first ever visit to SoBe. Celebrating my RN accomplishments with my dear college girlfriends. The food was mouth watering delicious! Service was prompt orderly and professional. I'm a Caterer/Baker and a native New Yorker. I know upscale places. This is by far one of them. I'm a big fan of customer service and Sobe's has it. A warm inviting place where folks are constantly smiling and eating. A clear indication the food is delicious. From the fresh lightly fried fish, chicken to creamy shrimps/grits, collard greens to fresh all you can eat salad and other foods and desserts not to mention the unlimited variety fruit flavored Mamosas' The establishment itself is very clean and accommodating and the atmosphere speaks for itself. I dined here for Sunday brunch on October 7 for a birthday. We were a large party downsized from 20 to 11. The restaurant was steady / slow and the staff was kind, but not the brightest or most attentive. Some of the brunch items were stellar and some were ok. PROS: price is only $35, ambiance, location is not too far from the DC (I live in NE), shrimp and grits, cabbage (has a sweet n' spicy twang), biscuits and gravy, crab legs being an option (were dry, no butter offered),$10 bottomless mimosas (orange juice and champagne), gratuity included (I normally appreciate this, but in this instance it was bittersweet because it felt like because gratuity was included steps of service were missed) CONS: minimal brunch selection for $35 (you can go to farmers and distillers of founding farmers for the same price and better food and location as this is in a strip mall in PG county), service (our server was nice, but EXTREMELY SLOW and it took 35+ mins to receive my omelette, which was in correct and when I got the "right" one it was still incorrect, water and mimosa glasses stayed empty), bottomless mimosas are $15 if you want cranberry or pineapple juice (should just make bottomless one set price for any juice), $40 cake cutting fee if you bring your own dessert (the organizer of our party should've asked before hand, but this is high), savory salmon was extremely salty I think the staff needs overall better hospitality training aka steps of service. Examples: -Water and mimosa glasses were consistently empty. We had to request multiple times for refills. One person in our party asked for plain cranberry juice and never received it. -Busser was kind in clearing plates, but would come to each table with the bus pan and sit it on the neck of the chair at the adjacent table (gross). Plates should be cleared and put in bus pans in the back of the house. -The hosts never knew who the organizer of our party and asked 3 different people in our group if they were that person. Hosts missed a selling point by asking our party to sit in the lounge and not offer the bar (drinks for purchase of course) as a possibility. -Waitress was kind to provide individual bills (because I wouldn't have for a party that size), but definitely forgot bills and it was a slow process to close out. -Calling out food / auctioning food. You have to order waffles, French toast and omelettes through your server. When these items arrived (super late) to our table they were "auctioned off". Based on the ambiance and experience this restaurant is attempting to achieve, I found this to be extremely tacky. Are orders not put in by seat number? -While in the brunch line, I asked one of the servers if the fried chicken was good, the response I received was "I don't know, I don't eat here. I don't believe in paying for food where I work." While I appreciate the honesty, I can think of a plethora of ways to better answer that question. Great food, great atmosphere, great music. I took my friend to celebrate her birthday on a Thursday evening. We had a great time dancing and socializing with others. It was not crowded which was good. The service was good and the food and drinks were reasonably priced. We plan on returning. read more

Came here for brunch today and I was very disappointed in the service. First, we called and they said that the low tables in the lounge were available and no reservations needed to be made to sit there but when we got to the hostess she told us we needed a reservation. So we proceeded to sit at the bar. The brunch good was really good but COLD that just messed with my appetite. I got crab legs and they did not taste fresh to top it off the lady working at the bar only checked on us 2 times in the hour we were there and my BOTTOMLESS mimosa was filled only 2 times...
