Walked in without a reservation last night (Friday night) and immediately got a spot on their patio. Everything from drinks, food, wine, and service were outstanding. Our server was very personable, offering great recommendations, including finding out of a rare bourbon they had. The olives, best I've had, and the bolognese brought me right back to Italy. I came to Per Se with one of my girlfriends tonight and honestly had such a wonderful night. I've walked by this spot numerous times and have always been intrigued by the beautiful, funky decor, so I'm happy that I was finally able to check it out. It was a Friday night, so I made a reservation for two. I was expecting it to be really busy, but surprisingly for a weekend it was pretty slow and there were plenty of tables. From start to finish our experience was wonderful. Since it was somewhat of a nice evening out, we grabbed a seat on the patio. The manager on duty told us to choose any table outside, so we chose one towards the middle that had perfect people-watching views. Since it was Friday, and we were out celebrating, we split a bottle of the rose. I can't quite remember what brand it was, but it was really good and paired really nicely with our pasta dishes. For appetizers, we split the ceviche. To be fully honest, I'm a bit of a ceviche snob... and I've definitely had better. BUT, I was a huge fan of the chips they used - my gal pal and I ended up just eating the chips alone. For our main dishes my friend got the funghi risotto and i got the spinach ravioli. Wowza. My dish was SO good. AND they came out so quickly. They came out so quick that they arrived before our appies. Talk about efficient. Our server(s) were wonderful as well. I say that plural because one of the ladies was training as it was her first day. Needless to say, we were well taken care of. We were checked in on just enough, food was brought out extremely quickly, and drinks were always full. 5-star service for sure. I'm bummed to see that other Yelpers didn't have the best experience with the service. I hope they do come back again though, because I hope they get treated to the same experience that we did! To end the night (after we had already finished our bottle of wine), we each got the espresso martini. We both didn't want desert, but were craving something sweet and alcoholic... this did just the trick. We both agreed that this had to be one of the best espresso martinis that we've ever had. Recently visited for the late night happy hour which is 10pm-2am. If you are looking for a late night option on a Sunday or during the week, Per Se is a good choice. Decent wine for $6.... a large Ceaser salad for $11, that's just some of your options. The fact they are open so late and have deals is fantastic. My gf and I both thought this would make a great dinner date place as the ambiance is quite lovely. The service was unfortunately a little slow. I believe our server tried hard, but was possible understaffed or maybe just new. We asked a lot of questions, but it was clear our you server didn't know much about wine lol. Our pizza was very tasty, but we were less than impressed that we had to cut our own pizza. It's amazing have all my fingers still lol. My gf was like "there is no way!!" So I tackled it, but would have preferred my pizza cut. Sometimes.... cutting a pizza or playing with knives in general, is kind of a no no when alcohol is involved. We inquired about the uncut zaaaa and our server said that the kitchen gets so busy that they have resorted to skipping that step. Oh come on! Vancouver International Wine Festival's Savour Spain event was held at Per Se Social Corner last night. A great event at a nice venue. Per se is a dimly lit, classy corner bar and restaurant with lots of booths and bar space for seating. The wait staff was pleasant and did a great job serving up the tasty bites for the event. I am not sure if the food for this event is even on their regular menu but it was tasty nonetheless. Seafood and chicken chorizo Paella was served as the main course. Emma saves the day! Gloomy, rainy Sunday and we had brunch reservations at Per Se. Getting there was harsh because of the Sun Run. Dripping wet, we are seated immediately. Then we proceeded to sit unattended. As it hit the 10 min mark without even a glass of water, I was about to get up when Emma showed up. It wasn't just that she was very apologetic and explained being short staffed. It was that in spite of being short staffed she gave us her full attention. Not just at that moment, but at every part of our dining experience. Now the food. My Husband had the Brunch Burger with Truffle Fries and I had the Bruch Brava. I have issues with eggs, I am super fussy. These poached eggs were perfect. It came with potatoes and brisket beef in a bowl. Super tasty the way all the flavors joined together. My husband really enjoyed his burger and fries. I tried the fries and they were super truffly, which was nice as sometimes you can smell the truffle but not taste it. I was told no tables were available even though a small table sat empty the entire time I ate at the bar. On to ordering; I have a major aversion to chunks of tomato. I added the 11.00 burrata topping described to me as large and luscious and creamy. Anyone that knows burrata knows that as soon as you cut if in half, it oozes in buttery cream. Well this appeared to be a half burrata. And it was cold on top of my gnocchi. Very cold. Poor execution. should not have been so chilled and a whole burrata oozing delicious juices would have been a worthy Michelin experience. Kudos for attempting homemade gnocchi. I make a lot of homemade gnocchi and was left unimpressed with the texture. Too hard in my opinion. Gnocchi is generally more pillowy. I went all in and added the spicy chorizo. Again the heat was not spot on. Some pieces were hot some were tepid. Disappointed. by the way, wheres the bread? this kind of plate needs bread. So I came in because it seemed quite beautiful from outside, and me and friend were looking for a place to drink. It is pretty inside and they have a very interesting tea cup chandelier but otherwise, I feel like my visit fell flat. I found their drink menu odd and confusing. How about just a plain menu will all you have, instead of some grid? Just saying. I ended up ordering a moscow mule which was $15! It was not worth $15 dollars. It was not some spectacular version of what I could get anywhere else. I found the waiter was hard to get a hold of and we had to ask various people for assistance. They must be reading everyone's Yelp reviews because we had great service last night! The server was attentive and checked back on us regularly so we didn't run into any of the issues mentioned in other people's reviews. I could see Per Se being a great restaurant for a girl's night out or a date. The interior is classy and romantic with dim lights and nice ambiance. We went on a Thursday night around 8PM and although it was quite full, the food and drinks came out in a timely fashion. The bf and I ordered the Free Fall Chips, Risotto Balls & Criminale Pizza. The Free Fall Chips were super yummy with the slightly sweet balsamic reduction and erba verde combination. The portion was huge though and we packed most of it to go because there was no way on earth that the two of us could finish that towering heap. The Risotto Balls were good too but our favourite dish was the Criminale Pizza. The dough has the perfect bite and it was a tasty pizza. My only criticism is that the base is extremely thin and it was hard to prevent the toppings from sliding all over the place. As for drinks, we got both the Clover Club and Moscow Mule. I didn't care much for the Clover Club and it was pretty pricey at $12 for a tiny glass. The Moscow Mule not only tasted better but is better bang for your buck in the classic copper mug. I don't know if I'd be in a rush to come back again, but next time if the girls want to dress up and go somewhere nice I may suggest Per Se as an option. read more

Went for a birthday dinner. The place is decent. There were five of us at the table. Not sure where to start with this review. The eatery was not overly busy when we first arrived the service was ok at that moment. As soon as, the place got a bit busy the service went down hill. Trying to get the attention of the waiter was hard. Had to walk up to him to get the bill. The food was meh. I had the Proscuitto e burrata. It was ok the sauce drops were good. 9 of us came here for lunch during the week, the place wasn't busy with less than 33% of the tables filled. The service was mediocre to begin with but as the meal progressed it got worse. Food - My steak salad came with the smallest overcooked pieces of steak I'd ever seen. I asked for medium rare and got medium well but at this point, by the time I received my food I wasn't about to send it back because it had taken so long to arrive. - Espresso - my co-worker's espresso looked like someone else had gotten to it first and what was delivered was the leftovers. It looked like there was maybe 1 teaspoon of espresso at the bottom of the tiny cup. We spent over 1.5 hours there but not because we wanted to. After we ordered it took 30 min. for the food to arrive. It took another 30 min. to pay. Yup it took 30 min. to pay because our waiter kept running off every time he had punched in one payment on the machine. After the 4th time he ran off one of my co-workers asked him if he could just stay put so that we could pay and leave. The waiter replied, very rudely, that he was processing us as quickly as he could. Unfortunately this waiter's idea of "quick" was to leave for 3 to 5 min. between each payment. Surprise on another co-worker's bill! When his bill arrived he noticed that he was charged $2.00 for mayo. He had ordered fries and asked if he could have some. He asked the waiter why he was charged $2.00 and why the waiter didn't let him know that it would be $2.00 and the waiter replied, "That's industry standard." Ummm no, I've never been to a restaurant downtown that charged me anything for a side of mayo before. Guess who's back with a review?! And in Canada no less!!! I'm here to tell you that if you do find yourself going here, do yourself a favor and turn around and find yourself another place to eat at. We came here desperate for lunch and to kill some time before we had to check in to our place we were staying, and boy, did we sure kill time here. We ordered beer, spaghetti bolognese and their home made potato chips. Can I just say for the record, that the food was delicious?! The spaghetti bolognese noodles were al dente and wonderfully flavored, and came with a healthy salad (dressing was pretty light, which made me feel quite healthy about myself). The real winner was the tapa of potato chips. It's not any old potato chip that you can get in a bag, but freshly cut, fried and topped with this balsamic vinegar glaze and some kind of pesto/garlic/parsley mixture. This is the thing you hafta order if you get caught going here for a meal. One thing to note (actually I'll go on to tell you about a couple of things), the beer was pretty lukewarm (yum, note the sarcasm) and our waiter was such a grumpy gills! We had high hopes after being greeted so warmly by one of the woman hostess. This dude tried to argue and say that we ordered another beer (when we had just asked for an extra glass) and then got all grumpy with us. It seemed only after another guest there complained about the wait (among other things) did the waiter lighten up and seem to appreciate us a little more. Which leads me to the wait. We waited so long for everything, to order, to get our food, to get our check, and so on. It was all too cringe-y. The restaurant's design is very cool. I ordered pizza for dinner, and it was good. The pizza was not pre-cut, so you have to cut it yourself. It's part of the food experience here, but the tools they gave us are not sharp enough to cut the pizza. Not sure if the pizza crust was too hard or the cutter was not sharp, but in the end my friend and I both stopped eating because we got exhausted from cutting the pizza! We could still eat more but we were just so tired from all the cutting. Man, it felt like a workout! Perhaps they can upgrade their tools. The service was amazing. Our server was very friendly. It also seemed like they're still in the midst of training the staff since our server didn't seem to know much about the beers being offered. It took quite a while to receive our drinks, even though there were often more than one person refilling our waters. The pizzas had interesting toppings, decent flavours but fell short on the crust as it was quite chewy. I tried the ADDICTION (goat cheese and beef with carmelized onions) and the KIMCELLO (kimchi, mushrooms, and bulgogi beef). Out of the two, I liked the Addiction one more - loved the sweetness from the onions with the goat cheese. Sadly, not enough beef on both. I was very disappointed with the portion size/value of the penne pasta. For $19, I was expecting a hearty plate of pasta to fill all of my carbohydrate cravings that night. Much appreciated! Our service was less than exciting, but certainly nothing to complain about. I want a personable experience when I go out to eat... not an order taker. Other than greeting us a little bit late (took her about 4 minutes to get to our table) she hit all her technical server points. She even quickly replaced my flat beer with another one without question or hesitancy. Thank you, I appreciated this! Was curious to try out Social Corner since it took residence in the very convenient location formerly held by Subeez. Apparently it's not officially opened yet (grand opening?) and we were told that it was a work in progress by the people there. That said, I had an excellent experience and really like what's happened with the space. Five of us visited for lunch. We ordered: three pizzas (Tartufina [5/5], Funghi [3.5/5], Capricciosa [4.5/5]), two appetizers (Eggplant Involtini [3.5/5], Octopus Carpaccio [5/5]), and a few of the Illy coffees. Food was quite enjoyable and has some ways to go, but I really enjoyed the octopus carpaccio and tartufina pizza for their uniqueness and blends of flavour. Service was excellent: professional, knowledgeable, friendly, and felt very genuine. I was in the mood for coffee and very happy to have refills :) Space is very well done: highly functional, clean lines, and has the feeling of being a living development (e.g. wine bottles being added to decorations). I've had dinner service here before 6 months ago and service and food was amazing. But todays brunch experience was a real let down. Service: We had been seated at a table for 2, I had a bunch of stuff on me today so I really had wanted an extra chair to place my belongings on while I eat, instead of juggling them on my lap. So I can enjoy my meal. I didn't want to be rude and ask for another table, and I saw that there were a ton of empty tables so I grabbed a chair to use for some belongings. I was then immediately scolded by a staff member who said that there will be people sitting in the chairs shortly. Okay I understand that. 15 mins later no one shows up at any of the tables near us. So I ask for our server to inquire about how full the restaurant anticipates to be and if we can get a table with an extra chair so that I can place my belongings on and enjoy my meal. Our server (male, Asian, ponytail) proceeded to scold at me saying "chairs were made for humans. Not for your stuff! Where do you think you are, this is a restaurant" I was so taken aback by his tone and attitude I just said leave it, I just wanted to finish my brunch and get out. Never checked in on us again after that and we were left alone. No asking if we wanted more coffee, salt, pepper etc.. I understand if you really cannot move us, but do it in a humble, apologetic manner. We are your guests, and I would hope you would like us to return. At the end of our meal, there were over 7 empty tables still available that he could have moved us to to make our experience better. Really disappointed in this server and how he handled the situation. Unprofessional and unwelcoming. The manager wasn't much help either. Food: I had the braised beef eggs Benedict. The eggs were good. I didn't really like the beef as it was kinda gamey and had the texture of canned meat but maybe its the way it's supposed to be. Couldn't really enjoy the meal because of the service. Overall: Cannot say I would come back, at least until major changes in attitude in staff. Caesar salad also has no flavour. Lobster and crab ravioli was good, flavourful, but because they were floating in cream and butter. They also tasted more like salmon than crab and lobster. Service was great, the only thing is that our waitress kept asking what do we want for our main courses. After we tried pizza and Caesar salad, we didn't want to get main courses, obviously, they wouldn't be good based on the first course. read more

Per Se Social Corner is a beautiful restaurant but there are aspects of it that are confusing. Their menu is much too large and features an odd mix of mostly Italian dishes, with some Mexican tossed in and American. I'm not sure it knows what it wants to be. My family came here for lunch and we had a nice table by the window, ambience is wonderful and relaxing and the overall decor is great but it felt very empty. Perhaps Monday is a slow lunch rush. Our waiter was a lovely Irishman who was engaging and attentive. We ordered the salmon salad, prawn linguini and the prosciutto pizza. The salmon on the salad was overdone and the skin was quite crispy and black. Not my favourite salad but not terrible. The linguini was really quite delicious, great sauce and quite a few prawns which were cooked perfectly. Lastly the pizza was also tasty! The crust had a nice chew to it. I think Per Sen Social corner is trying to be a little too much of everything but they should refine the menu and slice its name down to Social Corner. I think less is more in this case! read more

We always loved this place until we had the misfortune of meeting today's manager, John No Last Name. No Last Name because he refused to tell us. However, because of his resemblance to Ron Burgundy of the old Will Ferrell movie, Anchorman, we will just refer to him as Ron Burgundy. Approximately 2 o'clock this afternoon my wife and I stopped by for a quick, late lunch. I phoned my son who lives a couple of blocks down the street, and he said he had already had lunch, but would meet us for a beer in about 1/2 hour. Ron Burkendy was standing behind the maître d' lectern at the entrance. We asked him for a table outside and told him we would be three. He said he couldn't seat us until everyone was there. We politely informed him that the third person was my son and he would only be having a beer after we pretty much finished lunch. He said sorry unless you have everyone here we can't seat you. We said, "You have many empty tables both inside and outside your restaurant. It's past normal lunchtime. There are at least four or five empty four tops outside. Why can't the two of us just sit down and have our lunch and when our son shows up, he will join us and have his beer. No reason to stand on protocol." He absolutely refused "to break the rules". We asked him if he was really the manager, couldn't he bend the rules just a little bit to make some very good, longtime customers happy? He said, "No those were the rules." Meanwhile, the hostess was standing there wide-eyed and disbelieving. We have dined there many times before and brought many friends with us. Never had this problem before. We advised him that we were going to leave, and although we didn't intend to cause a fuss, we would never be back and we would spread the word that Ron Burgundy was a very poor manager and not service oriented in the least. So if you are considering visiting this restaurant, my advice is to call ahead and make sure that John who looks like Ron Burgundy will not be the manager when you arrive. What a loser! read more

Absolutely awesome food. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. One of the best burgers and pizza we have ever had. Highly recommend!
