I Initially had a bad experience here and left a negative review about the shop. I was contacted by the business owner and we managed to clarify the situation. He admitted some mistakes were made and vowed to correct the issues. While my initial shopping experience was not ideal, the store owner earned my respect by taking the time to contact me and work things out. He stated to me that they are all about customer service and he takes pride in his business which is exactly what he proved by taking the time to figure out what went wrong and to make things right with the customer. I've upgraded my initial review for the reasons above. 3 stars earned so far. 1.5 stars for friendly, helpful service 1 .5 stars for the business owner taking the time to ensure his customers walk away with a positive experience. Both of my children, age 7 and 9, took a skateboard camp over our Spring Break, and had an amazing time with the instructor, Rhett. They couldn't' get enough and are asking for their summer camps! These guys have gone out of their way to make sure that I was set up with all the right gear. Great customer service. I also took a lesson with Nicky. First time here today at Society and I fell in love with this place. They have a lot of good brands like RVCA, The Hundreds, Fourstar, Krew, Volcom, Obey, etc.... I cannot wait to come back again to get more plaid shirts and tee's. The shoe selection is quite awesome. Store number 3 on our "world wind" window shopping excursion. It's a pretty cute store. I would say more for the younger crowd, but I'm in denial about what should be age appropriate for me. Luckily I had my daughter with me for that added bit of "street cred'. I found at least three t-shirts that I really wanted and my daughter found too many things to mention that she just HAD to have. We love this store. My son just got an amazing long board with all the parts he picked out after many conversations with Narbe and Nicky and some online research. Last year he got his first skateboard there as well. The owner Narbe and all the guys that work in the store are always very knowledgeable and helpful and friendly to the kids in town who come in and oodle over all the boards. The store has also become a fixture in the San Carlos community, always present and contributing at community events. They run camps and lessons and skate performances. Our kids love to buy clothes and shoes there too, great selection of everything a kid or teenager could want. read more

I wound up here after trying to go to another skate shop in San Carlos that closed down recently. No worries, Society had what I was looking for. They had a nice selection of shoes and had a nice buy 1, get 1 50 % off sale, so I wound up getting 2 pairs of shoes for a pretty good price. They have a skate park at another location in San Carlos that I might check out sometime. The store is very clean and organized (which isn't always the case at skate shops) and they had 2 friendly and genuinely helpful employees in the middle of the day (again, this isn't always the case). read more

My husband and I were wandering around San Carlos when we stumbled upon this place. It's really cool and they definitely have a lot to offer. My husband actually found a really awesome belt for a great price and plans to go back and purchase another one. The only downside I felt like the women's clothes were very expensive. If you've ever been to a skate shop before you're probably used to the same old crappy customer service. This place is NOT like all the rest. The guys there seem to take the business very seriously. The service here is the best I've ever come across in a skate shop and I've been to hundreds of shops They're professional, courteous, and very helpful. I'm a local San Carlos guy and have been frequenting society board shop pretty much since they opened. Owner Narbe is super chill, very friendly and very good at his craft. He doesn't just run this amazing shop but he is a talented photographer, lots of artwork is tastefully on display and some for sale at society. Not only is society a skate shop, they have an unmatched selection of clothing and accessories for men and women, teens and kids. I've purchased everything from your basic fresh tee to sunglasses, belts, shoes, a new wallet. My wife loves their selection of dresses and shoes. Yup for real, this board shop has a great selection on women's stuff. The wife and I keep coming back and will continue to do so! This place is great, got 2 kids skateboards there. He was mellow, honest, and kind to my kids. My children attended one of his skate camps, and they went from saying skating would be stupid to enjoying the 15 hours of skating for the week. But a store's real reputation rests with its owner, and Narbe represents his store well. Before I even purchased anything from Society, he went out of his way to help me with a faulty board I got at another store. He didn't earn a dime off of helping me with this problem I had that took nearly a month to resolve. read more

Even though I shop majority at Atlas since my homies work there, they don't have the products I want. I gave Society a try since I've never been there before. I bought a sick RVCA backpack which Atlas doesn't sell. The staff were helpful and friendly. As long I'm shopping at any local skate shops, then it's worth it. read more

I was so impressed with the service in this store. I went in to get my son a skateboard for his birthday. The staff was so helpful. The owner was also great to talk to. I love that they offer classes, camps and birthday parties, too. We signed up for a class and the teachers are so supportive and helpful. My son says that when he and his friends shop at the store, all the guys there are really cool and nice. I think this store is a great fit for Laurel Street and the Peninsula! read more

I generally roll to Skate Works in redwood city for all board related issues but today i found out the store had closed : ( This place Society was the closest skate shop so i decided to give it a try. Big mistake!!!! I spent 140 dollars at their shop, putting together a whole new complete. I left the shop to go skateboarding at my favorite park Greer in Palo Alto. On my first drop-in to the 12ft bowl I nearly broke my neck falling down this concrete wall while at a fairly high speed. On closer inspection of my board i realized these guys had sold me faulty trucks with a bent axle which set my left rear wheel way out of true. After another 1/2 hour of trying to skate this busted set up and a lot of falling and frustration I drove all the way back to san carlos during rush hour traffic with some complaints. The owner did little to nothing to assuage my concerns. He begrudgingly replaced the trucks, blaming the issue on the distributor and not taking any responsibility himself. This may have been the case but I've been skating since i was a little kid and have never had this happen, and this guy played it off like it was no big deal. I don't know if he realized this but i could have seriously injured myself because of his shop's mistake. Geeze i gave y'all 140 dollars of my hard earned pay, spent extra time and money driving up the penninsula to your store after you sold me faulty equipment and you can't apologize or try and ensure my happiness with the purchase. In case you couldn't tell I'm not happy. Forget you and you're weak store with more clothing than boards. You wanna be's, selling overpriced clothes and pop culture to these mid pen kids, where's the pop in your decks? No where to be found. Perhaps if I was a suburban mom, driving a range rover this store would seem cool to me. read more

Never had a skateboard before, only skated on my friends' boards so I was totally lost coming into the store. The staff was super friendly and informative when I told them I was looking to buy a board. Walked me through every detail about riding and board setups so I was super stoked when I left with a brand new setup. The guy even gave me discounts on all the parts because I only had a limited amount of cash to spend. I'm definitely coming back here for anything skate-related I'll need. Great t-shirts, sweat shirts, jeans, hats, shoes, watches, and best of all...great service. The store is always spotless and the staff is more than polite and helpful. I have purchased many items from this place and gave a few as presents for birthdays and Christmas. Family and friends loved their gifts, which says a lot about the diversity of the store. Will definitely go back as soon as I can. Also, my little cousin took skate boarding lessons from one of the talented staff and he can't stop talking about it. From the second I walked into Society I was impressed! The store is stocked with everything from apparel for both men and women, sick boards, shoes, snap backs, accessories, sunglasses, and backpacks. I was particularly impressed with the shoe selection, as I am a tall girl and wear a size 10 shoe. Society had all of my needs covered from Toms to Nike dunks! The staff was genuinely friendly and helpful, and the apparel was both affordable and of good quality! One thing I found great about the service was how the staff is super accommodating to every type of person that I saw come in, from young skaters to families, and the owner Narbe was great at giving me suggestions for womens apparel! We bought my son's skate gear here and it was a pleasant experience. The skating camp was "ok" hence the minus star. I had big concerns about safety when a young boy hit an elderly woman in the first five minutes of the first class...it seemed a bit thrown together. The teachers were very nice- but it seemed like there were too many kids/different ages/and difference in levels to get much accomplished. I was happy my son came out in one piece after the week was over and decided one on one lessons was the way to go for a beginning skateboarder.:) read more

We all had a great time at Society Indoor Skate Park for my son's 10th birthday. It was down to earth, physical, and real. It was a huge hit! All 10 boys, most of whom had never skated before) had a very good time and wound up skating by the end. The kids who had skated before made some progress on learning some harder moves. AJ and Armine managed the kids so that it was a safe time, but also left the kids alone to work on their moves their own way. This is not a fancy place - there's not a party room, for example - but it has such a refreshingly real feel. Very satisfying party. Thank you!! read more

I bought the most beautiful watch in my collection at Society! I frequently shop for watches & had only seen my watch in 1 other store. Narbe showed me how to use the watch & answered all my questions. I did hesitate about the size & weight, but assured me it would be fine. I wore the watch all afternoon & barely noticed it. He also told me my watch was a conversation piece & sure enough I got a compliment on my watch just a few hours later by someone who has amazing taste! We knew about Society from their summer camps which my son loved and led him to choose Society as a venue for his turning 7 birthday party. We had a great time! i can't say enough good things about society skate shop.... i am a mom of a young skater, and after some online searching, found society and their camps.... we are hooked on the whole crew and all they offer. not a bad apple in the bunch! we have been to 3 sessions of camp, got new equipment at the shop, and have had several private lessons with their pros. the shop is gorgeous, the skate programs are so family oriented and friendly. i have a lot of respect for this business, and support their growth and future. i wish i lived a little closer... but it is worth the trip. read more
