The clientele of this coffee shop is quite different than any other I've been to. The age distribution of people frequenting the shop almost has a bimodal distribution with the first peak at 8 years old and the second around 60. They have toys for kids to play with so I think that is what draws the first peak of clients. Not sure about the second one. Thursday afternoons a weekly knitting circle gathers here. This week there were about 10 women huddled around the large table discussing knitting and all sorts of current events. If you are one for a quieter environment while working I would make sure to bring ear plugs if you're coming on a Thursday. I had a caramel latte when I went and it was fantastic. It wasn't at all bitter which is what I like in any espresso drink. I love that they have "for here" cups in all different sizes. There is nothing like curling your hands around a real mug while enjoying your coffee. My other favorite parts of the shop are the local books and artwork for sale. The 3 star review is just because this coffee shop isn't really my scene. However, this is a cute shop and the espresso really is quite good. read more

Soco Coffee is at the former site of Cafe Croissant/Grateful Bagel (a now defunct local chain that had bagels with Grateful Dead song titles) The walls are covered with beautiful paintings of jazz artists, like Duke Ellington, and they carry books by local authors. They also carry the North Bay Bohemian, the Sonoma County Gazette, and the Sonoma County Peace Press (by the Peace&Justice Center of Sonoma County) for free reading. It's a peaceful haven despite being beside a busy main thoroughfare&in downtown Santa Rosa. The coffee is EXCELLENT. The barista honored a rather old coupon of mine (since it didn't have an expiration date on it), and was very friendly. Soco has become my field office, and with good reason.... The coffee is the best in town, and the environment is wonderful to meet and chat. Plenty of chairs and tables, and I like the artwork and books on display. Free Internet is a real plus (Starbucks, you should learn a lesson from this!) The location is convenient, and the service is fast and friendly. What more could you want? Oh, and the owner is local--not a chain store where the profits go to some company out of state. read more

Back in the olden days (the '90s), there used to be a place we referred to as SoCo's- Sonoma Coffee Company. This isn't the same but the name brought back memories of wearing overalls and waiting in line to get double espressos. (What the hell was I thinking?) I'm not a coffee drinker. But I was on a mission recently to pick up a latte. Nestled in a former KFC building (and former Cafe des Croissants shop), this place still bears signs that it is transitioning space/buidling-wise. But whatever they lack in curb appeal and outside wall spackling, they more than make up for in friendliness and coffee. It seems like a really cool space to hang and relax and there's a nice large table that would suit for a bookclub meeting - or something like that. The pastries that I picked up (and quickly inhaled) were good and I got complimented on the really good latte. So, if you like accepting compliments on coffee that you don't even have to make, this is your spot. read more

I have studied here a few times and am always pleased with their iced coffee! Not sure what's different about it but it's super good and unlike Starbucks or the typical americano. A nice quiet place to do any work that can be done while consuming decent coffee, but wish it were more cozy. Their menu looks interesting and I would love to try more in the future! read more

This has quickly become my favorite coffee shop. Not for location but the quality of coffee for the best prices in town can't be beat! I've been here before because the coffee is good. But today it was "great" they have really great employees right now who know how to do justice to the bean for sure. My cappuccino was one of the "Best" I've had in town or any town. There's one Gal there who is doing foam art like no other coffee shop in town. She has some mad skills with cappuccino foam. Terrible place. The environment seems dark and dirty. The location itself Is strange and seems out of place. Inside you'll find a cute counter and pastries giving the illusion of a coffee shop but don't be fooled, when you look up you will see flat screen tv's in the corners, reminding me of a bar or casino. As I ordered the man behind the counter abused his employee. This was embarrassing to both of us. He proceeded to leave without apologizing or even acknowledging the presence of me and the other customers. The owner is unlikable and unproffessionial. The environment is bad energy, and the coffee is mediocre. Family owned used to mean family and people oriented clearly to this family it means "our family" oriented. I will never go back. read more

This place is confused... or maybe I was expecting something different. I thought by the name it was gonna be Sonoma County-esc, like serving local products, having sorta a local theme and maybe having a bike rack.... I was wrong. None of the above was happening. When asked about were they get their coffee beans, I was vaguely told a" San Francisco company".... hmmm, I asked if they made their own breakfast burritos... no again. Now here's the weird thing, they also serve Falafel( which they also don't make there) sandwiches (which is actually a wrap) and various other Mediterranean style items, as advertised on posters in the lobby.... again... a bit strange. Went here twice over the Thanksgiving weekend, and I was sold. The coffee is serve yourself and they have two amazing options available. I don't know if they change day to day or not, but I had a really good french roast. I also got a double espresso, which was good. Maybe not as strong as I'm used to, but it was enjoyable and did the trick. One morning I shared an oat cake with my aunts, which ended up being really good. It was dense, but not heavy. It also had an enjoyable texture and flavor. And it was quite filling, despite how it didn't look to be at first sight. The other morning I got their black bean breakfast burrito which was good, but I wish they weren't pre-made. I'm not a big fan of egg, which I was hoping to get the burrito without - but the amount of cheese in the burrito was able to cover the egg taste. There was also not a whole lot of black beans in the burrito, but the bites I had that contained them were good - as well as the salsa that comes with it. All in all it was enjoyable experience and I loved the chapbooks and self-published works they have available to read and purchase in the shop. read more

I love this place. It's a great place to have meetings, and I have lots my Santa Rosa business meetings here. Easy parking, great staff, phenomenal menu (everything I've had so far has been VERY GOOD), great atmosphere and, best of all, locally owned. I really like that they have local art on the wall and have magazines and books for sale. The wifi is dependable and good. I was able to work with a client and build a website on their connection. I recommend their house chai, so far it is my favorite item on the menu. read more

Coffee tastes decent. I really liked my latte, and that is what judge coffee places on. The location is ok, can be challenging to park, not many spaces in the lot. They put time and effort into making your coffee... This can be a bit extreme sometimes. I literally waited 25 minutes for a medium latte because there was one lady in front of me who ordered 5 drinks. Seems a little excessive. I would come back if I wanted to sit and study or something but probably wouldn't stop by to grab something quick to go. Have to spend more than $3 to use card. I usually spend more than that but may be an issue for some people who get only coffee and don't carry cash. read more

Not sure what happened to this place. Use to have a friendly staff working there. Now, it seems, last few times I've been here I only have seen the owners working. The husband in the morning and the wife in afternoon. And the bus tub for dirty dishes no where to be found. Dirty dishes being placed by customers on one table...very unsanitary and not pretty to look at. To me this is a sign of a troubling business. read more

I have lived here for over 5 years now and have never visited SoCo until earlier today, Very nice on the inside, although the barista taking my order didn't speak very clearly she seemed like she was done for the day, haha I feel that! I ordered one of their iced teas and it was awesome it was peach that's all I can remember, it was subtle and didn't need sugar but if you prefer your tea with sugar feel free, as I'm cutting out sugar. I never visited during the period of the 1-star reviews from 2010 but it looks like the owners took whatever criticisms there were seriously, because it's a fairly nice place to sit now. One of my favorite coffeehouses in Santa Rosa. It definitely has a more homey vibe than most of the upscale joints around town. And don't get me wrong, the coffee is still top notch in my book and at a reasonable price too. This place is disgusting! I worked here for one day, and in my five hour shift I had my manager tell me to pull a milk carton our of the garbage and rinse it to put fresh milk into, my coworker tell me that it was OK to grab a pastry with my BARE HANDS because "it's not like anyone can see us" and watched my coworker put a breakfast burrito in the microwave with nothing to protect it from the caked on cheese inside the microwave. Upon beginning I could not find a sink to wash my hands, and when asked to do the dishes, they had me rinse them and simply place them in the sanitizer. I don't even want to know how many health codes they violated in this shop. I will never be a paying customer. read more

Went in for the first time and was met with no smile and a matter of fact attitude from the gal behind the counter. Won't be back!

First of all, my wife and I believe in supporting local business owners whenever possible. Nabi, the owner of SoCo Coffee and his crew make this easy as they are very friendly and welcoming and they make a great cup of coffee (the best in Santa Rosa, as far as we are concerned) or tea or whatever you like. Their Mediterranean "pizza" on a poppy seed bagel and their salads are delicious! SoCo has a great eclectic mix of community and they support local artists by showing their work on the walls. Folks meet regularly to play chess, have their bookclubs, Italian conversation groups, and knitting groups, in addition to conducting business meetings or just to write the great American novel on their laptops. SoCo just opened two other locations: one at the County Administration building and the other at the County Hall of Justice, both of which are handy if you are near the Coddingtown side of town. read more
