I am conflicted on how to review this coffee shop. I used to genuinely enjoy coming because of the small town feel, and their good selection of teas. As the years have gone by though, I find myself coming less often. The staff had never been very friendly or welcoming. It's also not as clean as it once was. I think they're doing great considering covid. I know many people who continue to come here for their daily morning coffee, but the quality hasn't been the best for a couple of years now. I think it needs a little bit of an update in regards to their food selection. I think they can be better about customer service as well. For a basic coffee and tea this place is fine. Nothing special but it's not horrible either. I sometimes come still for a chai or tea. So definitely could be better but I think it's still an ok place to come to. read more

I don't think I've ever been here, but I refuse to support this business now after what I read. I read a Facebook check in were a paying LOYAL customer came in with a service dog and was harassed. Yelled at her and told her she could not have a dog in here, and she replied saying it was a service dog. They didn't believe her and made her get her papers for the dog, which is illegal. They produced to badger her asking why she has a service dog and made her tell them about her personal medical conditions. Even after all that they told her she isn't welcome there anymore. I can not believe the audacity of some people, especially in the year 2017 in a city so progressive as Cotati. I am not a dog fan myself, but I am all for service animals and their rights. You are legally allowed to have a service animal anywhere in California, and you are legally not even allowed to ask if it is a service animal. Whatever employee terrorized this poor girl needs to be fired, or this company should be shut down. You can not treat people and animals like this. read more

Adorable, cozy, cool little place right off of the 101. Let me paint you a picture. Its hot blinding bright outside. You pull into this parking lot needing something cold. Something with caffeine. You in and instantly you feel cooler. A smiling face greets you from across the room. You notice this after your eyes adjust since it is somewhat darker inside then outside. You notice a long bar holding coffee pots with light Kona to dark roast and goodies. Overhead some jazz is playing softly. It is nice. Makes you want to get a cup of whatever you fancy so you can relax and enjoy the calm of the environment. There is interesting art sprinkled throughtout. I choose to get one of the shots of espresso in my cup of light roast. It was the boost I needed! And then headed over to the array of sugars to sweeten the cup! They are so rude! They act like they are the customer and we are bothering them by placing an order. Not sure how they are still in business... My husband complained that they were rude to him both times that he went there and he is the friendliest guy ever! He can bring a smile to the grumpiest persons face, so for them to respond rudely to him was shocking. He refuses to go there anymore. I wanted to swing in real quick on our way to the city, so I called to see if we could place a order for pick up, since we were in a hurry. The guy who answered said they didn't take phone orders, and when I went to explain that we were just a few minutes away, he cut me off and then hung up on me!!! Nope. Never. Go to the Honey Badger. The owner told me to move from my chair even though I had my tea steeping and my computer out. I said no problem, stood up and picked up my computer and asked him the wi-fi password. In an aggravated way he said, "I don't know the password someone over there will help you..." as he motioned towards the cashier station. I set my stuff down at a table and he said, "you can't sit there either..." I just gave him a confused look, grabbed the rest of my stuff and left. I'm now sitting writing this review with a nice vibe, a new tea and good wi-fi at the Honey Badger on Golf Course by Hana Sushi and Bear Republic in Rohnert Park. This is my go-to from now on. Was waiting for paint to be mixed down the street at Dunn-Edwards and needed some coffee. Went in to this place for the first time. Great vibe! The manager (and maybe owner?) was there making drinks and the crowd seemed to be mostly "regulars." Dixieland jazz was playing when I was there. I got a tuxedo mocha. Great and consistent coffee! Service is good, surroundings are eclectic and there is always Jazz playing. Definitely a laid back adult coffee shop and not at all like the chain shops. Also, they open at 03:30 during the week, 04:30 on Saturday's and 05:30 on Sundays, which is very cool for those of us who work early shifts. Another thing I like is they display art, photographs and small tool sculptures there from local artists which I find entertaining. Anyway I definitely recommend this place and have been going there for about 16 years plus and just really appreciate the consistency and quality of the coffee. read more

The owner is RUDE! I had asked for my coffee to be warmed up. He said he cannot take it behind the counter. Assuming I had leaned in by the end of the counter I walked up to the register to try and give him my coffee. He directed me back to the end of the counter in a condescending tone. He started handing me a new cup. At this point he got really weird; again I stated I just wanted my coffee warmed up. He said coffee from the caraf is as hot as it gets. I gave up completely and said its o.k. I will drink it as is, I even managed to smile at him. He barked at me asking if I wanted my money back. This whole fiasco could have been avoided by simply telling me that he couldn't warm up my coffee. Not only do I bring them my business I always bring a friend. I won't be returning. When dealing with children or teenagers that are not my own, I find that they're easily won-over by sugary things. I was hoping to stop for ice cream but one of these lovely beings recalled a Johnny's Java nearby and conveniently a few exits away from where we intended to stop next. In we went and they ordered two blended mocha thingies. I paid and found a recent edition of The Bohemian to flip though while we waited (it wasn't long). Soon we were getting back into the car and reminiscing about how much shorter they were when we were there last. That's right not only do these folks remember their regulars but also their spouses order. I certainly owe Johnny's staff 5 stars after years of fantastic service. Yea, I took a look at some of the negative comments and I'm convinced those folks place no value in good hometown service, can only offer a quick assessment and then move on to some chain store service model with no local charm. I'd rather try to stick with long standing business owners that understand the value of community and long standing consistent service. Besides do you know those other chain store business managers or owners by name? Do they really know you? Over the years I can't tell you how many times I stopped by before Johnny's opening hours and Bruce was already there and always willing to serve me or someone else one of the first cups before all the lights were on. Hours of operation are off. Google says 6pm yelp said 5pm door said 4pm . Service was okay kinda dry but with a light touch and smile . Ambience looks geared to older crowd perhaps because it was very bland and basic. Coffee was medium to low quality. Pastries where good . Over all its worth one shot but nothing will really boring you back unless you like a quite empty coffee shop. read more

Been meeting my mom here for workouts that we carpool together to in Petaluma. My mom bought me an iced coffee to drink on the way. I made small talk with the short red headed waitress as my mom waited for her food. We took off to Petaluma and I started to suck down my coffee, I was instantly disappointed. This coffee tasted stale and old. After the hour long workout my mom dropped me back off so I could ask for some new coffee. The same redhead looked down at the coffee and then went to talk to her coworker. I heard every word of how it was the redheads decision to remake my drink or not. You would think that with a Pete's coffee down the street they would be trying to keep their customers, but she refused to pour me a new cup of coffee. She very rudely told me she would not remake it because I left and came back, even though the drink was practically untouched. Nice job Johnny's java. read more

I have to agree with other reviewers: unfriendly, monotone staff bordering on rude. Additionally, the barrista was so sick she was trying to cough-up a lung. Had no business being at work, much less in a food-prep position. I didn't really want to touch my cup after it was handed to me. Coffee was luke-warm; only slightly hot. And pricey. Mediocre overall and 2-stars but only for the ambiance of the room; sorry, that's it. Outdoor seating: yes. But the smokers had taken it over. So not only was the outdoor seating unappealing but one had to walk through cigarette smoke to get in/out the front door. For a new, first-time customer: disappointed. Won't be back. I've been a very loyal customer of this place, coming in on average 3-5 days a week. Granted, Im very picky about my drink, I like it a certain way. Some of the help make it right, some don't. When it's wrong, I take it anyway. This time they have a new girl, who consistently has done the exact opposite of what I requested. First two times I ignored it and took it anyway. Third time I told her, and she rudely ignored me. This time I asked her to remake, no sorry, just briskly grabbed cup from me and slammed it in the trash. I told her I didn't appreciate the attitude and owner basically asked me to leave. He said he would make the drink himself " this time" but don't come back. Rude doesn't begin explain. Well they don't give two hoots about the customer, have you seen the owner respond to a single review? Just one offer to make it right? I think not. Coffee stores are like fleas on a stray dogs back, there are choices out there.
