    Smores Float
    Bryce B.

Holy cow, this place is not only fun but delicious. My group and I partook in the "cobbler" and celebrated our win with some floats. I forgot the name of the one I bought; it was s'mores-themed and amazing. I highly recommend checking this place out and paying attention to any oddities.

I want to start by saying this is our second visit. The first was about 3 years ago and we instantly remembered why it took so long to return. When we arrived, it wasn't busy. We took a minute to order and a couple groups went ahead of us. We ordered the Big Slice milkshake with the piece of cheesecake on top and our child ordered a scoop of ice cream with gummy rings. The place itself is cute and attached to a hidden escape room which is cool. It's bright and clean, but could use a lot more seating. Issues: 1. It took over a half hour to receive our desserts after we ordered. It was not busy. We actually tried to cancel our order because it was taking waaaaaaay too long but we couldn't cancel. 2. Their prices in my opinion are rather unreasonable for what it is. It was about $17 for the milkshake. Ok, not so bad given it had a whole piece of cheesecake on top I guess. However, the ice cream was one very small scoop with 5 very hard gummy rings on top and it was $8. We will not be returning.

I couldn't resist trying one of their crazy milkshakes after finishing the escape room! We ordered from the escape room lounge which was nice and quiet. My friend and I split the tuxedo milkshake which was perfect and the staff kindly split it into 2 cups for us. The tuxedo comes with Oreos and an ice cream sandwich bar in the milkshake and was incredible! There was a long line forming when we left. The inside is pretty small with just a line of stools and a few tables outside if you're coming just for the ice cream and not the escape room.

Soda Jerk is fun!! The killer shakes and floats are over the top and kids go bananas over them! I mean come on, the Big Cheese Cake shake comes with an actual slice of Cheese Cake on it!!! We go to Soda Jerk for special, fun occasions or when the kids have done the Nemesis Club (secret escape room located inside) We've had the Sweet Tooth, It's Your Birthday, All the Cookies, Death by Chocolate, Happy Camper, and a few seasonal ones over the years! Never met a shake we didn't like! They offer regular milkshakes and floats too! When Soda Jerk first opened I had to look up what it meant...the name for a person who prepared and served sodas and ice cream at a drugstore or ice cream parlor. The name "jerk" refers to the jerking motion the person used to pull the handle of the soda foundation draft arm to dispense carbonated water. This was in the 1920's - 1950's. Maybe most people knew this, but I didn't. I know they use premium ice cream and fresh milk from a local dairies, which is great and High Street is the perfect place to take a stroll after and walk off the sugar. Soda Jerk is a fun spot for an old fashion, exciting treat!

Cute shop with a fun selection! Even better that it was a surprise stop for the kids before our escape room reservation. :) Always weary about trying desserts when there are peanuts on the menu, due to our daughter's allergy. However, they took precautions so that our daughter could safely enjoy her Brownie Points milkshake. Portions are huge and we were able to share and still have some leftover. Thank you for your kindness and care especially with our food allergy!

Came here for the first time as a family to celebrate a birthday! Service was quick and kind. The shop is very clean and a modern take on an old-fashioned soda shop. Servings are large and can be shared! Everyone walked away happy and full.

Pretty fun soda and shake shop. We enjoyed a few different drinks after doing the secret escape room. Our friend loved his Oreo shake, I thought my marshmallow/campfire soda was pretty good but really sweet! Great if you have a big sweet tooth!

Such a cute storefront and the staff is friendly. I got the campfire which is root beer with marshmallow cold foam and toasted marshmallow. The perfect treat after trying their cobbler :)

Darling ice cream parlor filled with the ultimate over the top milkshakes and treats!! They jazz up even a simple little single scoop- loved the atmosphere, the service was cheerful & prompt!! We will definitely be back to explore the menu offerings more!! Kudos on some yummy treats!!

    Açaí Bowls (5/5)

Probably not the review you were expecting from a placed filled with treats but I will always come back for this açaí bowl! As a lactose intolerant person I can't always eat ice cream or drink shakes but if you're looking for something sweet, light, and refreshing--this is it! I went for the first time last year and had to come back because the portion is a great size, the service is quick, and it's just what you need on a hot day! Would recommend! I come from out of state and would go back if in the area again!

    Acai Fruit Blend...sooo good!

Another soooooo gooooood! It is up in North Phoenix on High Street- and worth the drive if you are elsewhere in the Phoenix metro area! We have been here before on a Yelp Day, came back and brought friends! We each had something different and none of us were disappointed! They even have an Acai Shake with Oat Milk for the vegans- and wow. Just thinking about it makes me want to go back! Go check out Soda Jerk. It is worth every bite!

If you're gonna be a jerk, be a Soda Jerk! Get the Don't Snicker Sundae. The Don't Snicker Sundae has vanilla ice cream and a Snickers Ice Cream Bar. It's topped with a chocolate-dipped waffle crisp, some drizzles of hot fudge and caramel, and a mountain of whipped cream sits on top with a fudge and peanuts rim. While I'm not the biggest ice cream lover, it was the perfect way to cap off the night. That is, until the rain came pouring down and had us running down High Street to the parking garage. You know the sundae was good when I used my jacket and hands to protect my sundae instead of the make-up quickly being washed off my face. The walk-in freezer door to the left looks awfully suspicious! Our companions spoke highly of the escape room and we would have loved to have booked a spot but they were full. It's a very popular spot!

I've been wanting to check out Soda Jerk for over a year now, especially after hearing all the buzz about their outrageous milkshakes. So, when I found myself in the area for a festival, I jumped at the chance to finally try one. When we got there, Soda Jerk was very busy, with the staff hustling around making drinks. They acknowledged us and took our orders shortly.I wanted to split a milkshake with my husband, but I was craving cotton candy while he was craving an Oreo flavor. In the end, we decided to go for two small classic milkshakes, each getting what we wanted. We took our shakes outside to enjoy at one of the tables, and they were delicious; creamy and dreamy! Even the small size is good for sharing, especially after a meal. We tried our best, but we couldn't finish them! We also thought about booking a game in their cool speakeasy-style escape room, The Nemesis Room, but sadly, they were fully booked for the night. Next time!

Ask the Community - Soda Jerk

    What's in the back room?

Escape room. Game like setting where you have to figure out clues.

What do you use to make a chocolate shake dairy free?

Hi, Brian! Our dairy free chocolate shake is made with a coconut-based vegan vanilla ice cream, dairy free milk (typically oat milk), and Hershey's chocolate syrup.

Do they have gluten free options?

Yes! Most of the ice cream flavors are gluten free, which means that most of the base shakes are also gluten free. While many of the toppings contain gluten, the jerks at the counter can provide suggestions for gluten free substitutions.

Do you have any nondairy ice cream options?

We do have non-dairy options. Currently, we have a strawberry sorbet that pairs really well with a couple of our sodas to make a delicious float. Or we can make a sorbet shake using almond milk and the strawberry sorbet.

Ultimately this doesn't matter to me as I just want the ice cream. Today I was on my way to work and decided to treat myself to a coffee. Knowing that they're vegan, I thought non-dairy milk would be included. Nowhere was I able to find which milk was included in the price- so I asked for oat milk. I was charged NINTEY CENTS (.90) for an upcharge. Rather than saying oh it comes with soy milk, or hey it's a .90 cent upcharge, the barista just added it on no questions asked. I had reviewed the menu online and in the extras it does not include oat milk, which is why I assumed it came with it. My coffee ultimately came out to $9.16. What a joke. I will definitely not be coming back here for anything besides ice cream from here on out and even that is a hard maybe. I wish more places had pricing integrity- their website doesn't reflect it and neither did the barista. *edit to add the coffee is extremely sweet and milky, tastes more like sweet milk than a latte :(

A Nostalgic, Must-Visit Dessert Destination in Old Town Scottsdale…read more Our party of six visited the Sugar Bowl for dessert following a friend's birthday dinner. Upon our arrival, we were accommodated immediately and seated without any delay. The parlor features a wonderful, nostalgic aesthetic reminiscent of the late 1900s. Its menu is remarkably expansive, offering an impressive variety of options that goes well beyond what one might typically expect from a traditional dessert establishment. The service we received was patient and polite. While one of our table's orders was initially overlooked, the staff corrected the mistake instantly as soon as we brought it to our server's attention. As the name implies, the menu leans heavily into decadent, sweet treats; those looking for lighter or tart options like yogurt variations will find limited choices, but the indulgent selections are perfect for traditional dessert lovers. The surrounding neighborhood adds significantly to the appeal, offering an excellent Old Town atmosphere filled with art galleries, historic shops, and artifacts. If you are visiting the nearby Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMoCA), enjoying dinner in the area, or simply taking an evening walk, I highly recommend stopping by the Sugar Bowl for its unique historical charm and experience.

They have a bar area and standard seating. I remember I first went here when I was in high school in late 90's/early 2000's. Ice cream was always top notch. I used to get the Buster Brownie, which was this big brownie sundae with vanilla ice cream, goeey marshmallow topping, whipped cream, & cherry on top. It was awesome! I loved that way back then. I got lunch there once or twice; pretty good sandwiches, but the real highlight is the ice cream. My most recent visit was in Jan. 2022 with my dad. We decided to pop in for ice cream. It was as delicious as I remembered.
