Had a terrible experience at Sofia last night. Took a long time for the waitress to come over. Finally ordered drinks and the appetizers arrived way before they did. The octopus was very un appealing. Had an 8:15 reservation and by 9:40 still hadn't ordered dinner. The waitress wanted us to wait for some reason. They also changed the menu for the worse and were out of some key entrees like the crab cakes. We left and paid the bill before ordering dinner and got frozen yogurt instead! Won't be going back here for quite a while if ever! read more

Service was A+ tonight. I ordered the grouper special, which was accompanied by polenta, and purple cabbage. It was stellar in its presentation, and the combination, sprinkled with pomegranate, was absolutely delicious. The best part about Sofia is the beautiful ambiance and environment. The outdoor area is filled with beautiful flowers and plants, blocking you from the street. You feel like you're in a little oasis. The service at Stella is also fantastic. Everyone is friendly and helpful from the hostesses to waiters to bus boys. Giving 4 stars as a rating relative to the other restaurant options between Ventnor and Longport. The food here is good but nothing that will blow your mind or draw you back. For appetizers I had a ceaser salad (standard), octopus (tiny and rubbery), and 3 dip trio (dips were average and pita was cold). Honestly the free bread and pesto oil was better than all of the apps ordered. For an entree I had the seafood plaki which was delicious - large portion. Overall, I would go back here for the ambiance and drinks but wouldn't rave about the food. read more

Excellent food, really good and pleasant servers. You can't go wrong there. The only reason I don't give them 5 stars is the dress code. You get young girls going there with shorts (missing a lot of fabric) and tops so short they might as well be wearing a bikini. Guys with tank tops. I know it's a shore town, but a nice place like that should have a basic minimum dress code. read more

Sofia used to be our go to for a good drink and great meal. Food has gone down hill considerably.

Four of us dined there recently. We checked in & while waiting to be seated, sat at the bar, which is centered around a tree whose branches are decorated w/ tiny white lights. There was a festive buzz in the air, and the place was full and lively. We were shown to our table within 10 minutes. Our waiter, James,was professional, helpful courteous & friendly. He answered all our questions and listened attentively to everyone's requests. Very impressive!! Apps: We ordered Greek salad ( shared), lamb chops, tomato crab bisque soup and oysters. Everyone enjoyed their appetizers. Along w/ the pita and tzazicki dip ( yum!) The entrees were also very well received. There was an order of crab cakes, Corfu capellini w/ shrimp (w/ red sauce), bronzino, Aphrodite pasta w/ crab meat and feta . They were served warm and tasty. Service flowed very well from start to finish. Sadly, we were all too full to enjoy dessert. Next time we'll try to pace ourselves!! Tip: Upstairs is an open courtyard and several tables were on the terrace. On a lovely night, w/ low humidity... a great place to dine. THE WORST SERVICE. RUDEST MANAGER. WORST RESTAURANT EXPERIENCE EVER. DO NOT GO HERE. Awful service, mediocre food. When questioned why the service was so bad, the manager was extremely rude, showed no care and blamed guests for being 5 minutes late. 1. Raw oysters took 45 minutes 2. Brought oil and butter without bread. Was told bread was in freezer frozen and they weren't bringing it out. Owner said that her waitress was ignorant for telling us this. We heard her say this to waitress. Later denied it and lied to our face. 3. Cleaned up/folded tables and chairs in the room in front of us. 4. Fire roasted veggies = birds eye mixed frozen veggies.. STUPID. DO NOT ORDER. 5. Took us 25-30 min to receive water. Received NO refills. Manager has absolutely no care for anyone but herself. We told her we had a horrible experience and she fought back with us -- no remorse. She literally kicked us out of the restaurant as we complained to her. Literally worst experience ever matched by rudest woman ever. She should not be in the service industry and does not deserve a restaurant. Really poor experience. If you're thinking about going here, go somewhere else. Do not support this restaurant. read more

Its difficult to write a review for Sophia Restaurant because I was really in the mood for dessert and ordered a tiramisu slice and some calamari for delivery. Calamari delivery, you wonder? Well believe it or not the calamari arrived still very crispy and it was prepare very well. We enjoyed this very much. What was disappointing was the $8 slice of cake that I as super, overwhelming both in size and in flavor. For $8 I was hoping for something that was shareable for two but it really was quite small/thin. Not ideal for a dessert to share on a date at all (unless you're both on diets haha). Perhaps that was disappointing because I really wanted dessert and that part let me down. Its hard to judge a restaurant by a single appetizer and dessert so this was a hard decision to give this place three stars. read more

Creative menu, ok food, horrendous service We will not return. The waitress took our order and it was the last we saw of her until we were ready to leave. Five adults, ordered 3 glasses of wine. Finished them with our appetizers. Asked two bus boys for another round. ( no sign of waitress). Nothing. Tracked down a waitress and asked. Nothing. Meanwhile, water glasses never refilled. Had to ask for the promised bread . The only thing the stFf was interested in was getting dishes off the table The food was ok. Two of us split a mixed grill. My wife ordered the quinoa salad with chicken. Someone else had the crab cakes. I would give the food a B to B-plus at best. Lucky for the waitress my son paid the bill. He is a more tolerant customer than me. By the way, this was a Tuesday night and the restaurant was active, but there were empty tables both inside and out. No excuse. read more

We simply loved the vibe, ambiance, service, and delicious food and drink quality of this local Margate City Greek restaurant. The Mediterranean food was fresh and tasty, but perhaps the highlight was the bartender, John T. whose great smile, personality, service, and drinks made our experience a highlight even during a very busy time. Sofia is not only a great place to have dinner, it is a great place to have a party or a private family dinner in there beautiful private room located on the second floor (they have an elevator). Their Greek specialties are all delicious, but I also love entrees such as their Bronzino,and Chilean sea bass, and their lolipop lamb chops (so good) for an appetizer. When you are having an event at Sofia's it is easy to creat a menu created exactly to your liking, they have a wide and delicious variety of finger food, appetizers and entrees on their event menu and we have been more than satisfied with the dinners and parties that we have had there. read more

My husband's dinner was 5 stars from start to finish. Unfortunately, my spanakopita starter was meh. I then had the sea bass special with dreamy lemon risotto as my main and again it was "okay". My husband, however, had the scallops entree plus the sautéed spinach side and loved every morsel! His honey fig gelato was also a standout. read more

I have to say the menu was not very extensive and amongst our group of four people, not everybody found something on the menu they were interested in having. So some of us ended up with not very exciting choices. The food was fine, ranging from excellent for the octopus appetizer (although at $20 it was pricey) to pretty good for the moussaka and crabcakes (though not anything that would be very memorable however). Decor is very nice and service was excellent. The main criticism is that this place is exceedingly pricey, very expensive for the food. Although of course we recognize that they need to make an entire year's income over the short summer season so we understand that. All in all for an occasional splurge night out it was fine but it certainly would not match the quality of an equivalent price level restaurant in Philadelphia or another city. read more

This review is based solely on the bar as I've never eaten here. The restaurant is beautiful inside. Very warm and inviting. Once seated at the bar, I asked the bartender for a drink and he stated "I love to use fresh lime juice for that!" I was really excited, because honestly, how often are bartenders able to use freshly squeezed lime juice? As I watched the preparation of my cocktail taking place, I was absolutely appalled to see the bartenders idea of what fresh lime juice was. He took the container of cut limes off of the garnish station and poured the liquid into my cocktail! Seriously... This happened! When he served me the drink, I thought to myself "well, maybe he knows something I don't." I took a sip, and it was extremely bitter because of the lime pith and not at all what it should've tasted like. As I sat there, I kept thinking about what the bartender did, and how absolutely disgusting it was. He poured juice out of a container where peoples hands are in and out of all night long. Who knows if any of them even wash their hands. Needless to say, I paid for this poor excuse of a cocktail and left. On top of that, another another bartender, who was obviously ready to go home and have us leave, stood in front of us, put her coat on, and asked us what else she could do for us. Basically saying it's time for you to leave. When we came in and asked to sit at the bar, the hostess could've let us know that they were wrapping up for the night, and we would've happily moved on to our next destination. It was a long time since we last visited Sofia so we went to try it again on restaurant week. First of all, the place is really nice looking inside. The decor is beautiful and it's not overly decorated. The bar area with its unusual shaped bar and tree in the middle looked cool. After being seated, the first thing we did was order a cocktail. I had the new old fashioned which was just ok. My wife had a Mojito which she seemed to enjoy. Before the meal they brought out bread with an olive oil and olive spread. That was delicious. For the first course my wife had the Spanakopita and I had the Saganaki. Her Spanakopita was very good. I didn't know what I was expecting from the Spanakopita which is pan fried cheese, but that's pretty much all it is. The display of lighting it on fire table side was fun, but that quickly turned into just eating fried cheese. For our main course my wife got the Pork Chop with Greek-coffee rub and I got the Branzino. She seemed to enjoy the chop and took the rest she didn't eat home to finish it off. She did say that she didn't taste much coffee flavor though. My Branzino was good but not great. I thought some of it was nice and juicy while parts of it were dry. The roasted vegetables that came with it were very good. Unfortunately, the worst part of the meal was the dessert. My wife had the Baklava and I had the Galactobourico. Both desserts were sickeningly sweet and the Galactobourico was supposed to have a lemon custard in the middle, but I really didn't taste much lemon at all. The service was good and they refilled our water regularly. However, at the end of the meal the server invoked one of my pet peeves. Giving us the check at the exact same time as the dessert as if to rush us out of there. Rather than trying to enjoy our dessert I had to look at the check staring me in the face. read more

Very average experience all around. The restaurant and atmosphere itself was very cool and traditional. The bar was aesthetically very well-designed. We were offered a high-top near the bar despite having a reservation, as "there was nothing available." After reiterating we had a reservation we were seated within the dining room. One server for at least 10 tables in our section. The food was very average. The hummus was very good, but very small portion. We added the vegetable crudités which was two sticks of celery and raw baby carrots thrown on a plate. I did the lamb for dinner which was again very average and small portion for the price. Wife did seafood pescatore which was extremely small for $42, and was very bland and the seafood within the dish was cooked poorly. We figured we'd be safe with baklava for dessert, but after waiting fifteen minutes were served freezing cold baklava. Overall just very average, very expensive, with inattentive (understaffed) service. Really was hoping for a better experience. We will try other restaurants before ever returning. read more

I'll preface this by saying the food is great. Hummus is some of the best and the flatbread was amazing. However the service here is horrendous. Our waiter took our order and that was the last time he stopped by. Also, what restaurant has you order appetizers and dinner at the same time?? Our wine wasn't served until we were done our food (two glasses of wine). We had to ask a food runner for our check after waiting 30 minutes. Then our waiter returns and just drops the check. Not a "sorry we've been busy" or "can I get you anything else". We wanted more drinks and food but were never offered anything. Then when I told the waiter that he only came once, he proceeded to argue and say that we were attended to by the cleaning staff....that's not an excuse. I said "what if we wanted something else" and then he goes "well did you want something". Then he walked away. When attending a dinner we expect at least a decent service but to never show up again is unacceptable. The manager only apologized, then walked away. Will not be back for a while. read more
