New to the area and just starting to venture beyond chain restaurants now that Spring is finally arriving. This place is a true find! I had the blackened chicken gyro. So flavorful, moist and spicy, all the veggies on it were incredibly fresh, the pita was warm and soft. And zero chicken "ick", which is always a danger for me. Everything was just fresh and tasty!! The fries were a little lackluster, but that's probably because I chose to take out; I imagine they are crisp when hot. I also got some baklava for dessert, another delicious standout. My partner found this place and recommended that we stop by for lunch, so we did just that. We pulled into the small parking spaces in front of the restaurant and ran inside to see what we were going to try. I saw so many things I wanted bc I was starving. The menu included nachos, empanadas, gyros, etc. Sigh! I opted for the platter which included one beef kabob, chicken kabob, gyro meat, a Greek salad and fries or rice. Of course, I had to get a beef empanada to go. My partner had a gyro with salad and fries. We sat at one of the tables (there were a few inside). The wait time for our food was maybe 10/12 minutes. Everything arrived at the same time (yay). I glanced at my plate to see what I had. I noticed the thin pieces of lamb and figured I would try the lamb first. I stuffed the small pieces of lamb into my pita bread and they fit perfectly. I felt like I had mini gyros. The pita bread was nice, warm, fluffy and complimented the lamb well. I started on my side Greek salad. It was a nice side salad. The vinaigrette wasn't overpowering at all. I am an olive lover, so the olives and feta cheese were my favorite. Next, I tried the fries, which were nice and hot. I moved on to the chicken kabob, which had that nice grilled + marinated flavor as well. I was full, so I barely touched my beef kabob. My partner loved his gyro and fries. He raved that he could have eaten another gyro, but refrained from doing that. Amazing, fresh, healthy food. Gyros and Greens has a very unassuming storefront and seems to most be a takeout location especially during covid, but their takeout service and quality is great. In fact, it's our go to. The falafel is excellent. Portion sizes on everything (salads, gyros, meals with rice, empanadas, etc.) all are huge. I found this place on Yelp while on travel and decided to give it a go. The place was empty when I walked in and I was worried that was indicative of the experience - definitely not! My order was ready in minutes and as I ate, several customers came through and placed to-go orders. My meal was flavorful - the salad was fresh and crisp with just the right amount of ingredients. The carved meat was outstanding as were the two skewers of chicken and beef. Order had the option for fries or rice, I chose the rice. The rice was okay but didn't mesh well with the Greek taste (closer to Mexican). I was nice and full but decided to take a bite of the baklava and devoured the whole piece! I would like to give a 3.5. First the positives: Prices were reasonable and good amount of food for the price which may influence some people's reviews. The bill for 3 people was 37.96. We got a gyro platter, Tex mex wrap, cheeseburger, an order of spanakopita and Two orders of baklava. Secondly the gyro was good. Not overly seasoned. Decent amount of meat and good ratio of toppings that normally come with it. The Spanish rice that came with the platter was very good. The Greek salad was ok. The dressing had too much vinegar and the kalamata olives had pits. The feta was average. Daughter said burger was good and cooked right. The Tex mex wrap was good but we asked if it was spicy and was told no. Wife said it was good once she pulled off the jalapeños lol. The one real negative was the spanakopita. The filling was not good. Tasted like too much egg used to bind it. Gave it an eggy taste. Too bad cause it looked good. Not sure I would rush back because of distance from south end of OCNJ.
