First that start with the ambience of this place. It is absolutely adorable. The outside is completely painted and styled to really stand out. Once you come inside and it has music and really cute signs. We went on a Friday and it was extremely busy, but thankfully we had a reservation, but if you do not, it will definitely be minimum an hour wait . Once we are seated, which didn't take long the service was very quick and friendly. The food comes out very fast and was delicious. The drinks can be a little bit pricey, but we're very tasty. I had a strawberry margarita and a jalapeño margarita. The margarita jalapeño was very spicy so beware. Food wise, we got a steak burrito, which was very large. I got the chicken fajita, which was very delicious. The only thing I found strange it didn't come with rice you have to order it on the side. My husband had a salmon dish which he said was very good he said. I would really recommend this place! read more

The food and ambiance are great but the service and lead time is lacking. We've gone twice, once for lunch when it wasn't busy and once for dinner when it was somewhat busy. Both visits it took excessively long for our entrees to come out to the point where we considered leaving. First time eating at Sophia's. The atmosphere was very nice. Dined in the room with the bar so that's why food looks blueish. So they give some complimentary chips and salsa which is nice however the Salsa lacks flavor. We got the beef empanadas as an appetizer. It was very very good! Light crust and had a good taste. I ordered the ground beef tacos. I did not care for ground meat flavor. Very strong taste almost Smokey like and kinda salty. If the empanada meat was the same meat for the ground tacos I would have loved my dish! The other meal ordered was a blackened chicken burrito. They said it was just okay. We came to celebrate my birthday and ended up having a lovely time! We started with margaritas which were very good and also beautiful. We also ordered the queso and guacamole which were favorites. Then came time to order our entrees. My wife got a burrito and was really won over by the salsas it came with. I ordered bean and cheese burrito. I just wanted bean and cheese in it, nothing else. Our waitress was so lovely and sweet but came over and said the kitchen couldn't do just a bean and cheese burrito. I asked why and she had the manager come over. He stated the burrito wouldn't be "full" enough. I said that's okay I just wanted beans and cheese. He was adamant that I had to put other things in the burrito so it "looked better" on my plate. I really didn't mind what it looked like as long as it's tasty! After a bit of back and forth, I ordered one of their burritos that came with beans and cheese and just got the other items on the side. Which they could do. So in the end, just a bean and cheese burrito! And it was delicious! Haven't been impressed past year or so but gave one last visit. Sat down, ordered drinks and waitress took dinner order. We didn't want apps... two orders of chicken fajitas came out within minutes, same time as drinks. Chicken was dry, feel like it was pre cooked and reheated. Service was horrible tonight our server came by maybe 4 times start to finish. she also couldn't even get our kids dinner correct, adult chicken fajitas came out instead of kids chicken fingers, she never even mentioned/apologized for the mistake. On top of that we bought gift cards around the holidays, they said they ran out of $100 gift cards so had to give them to us in $25 increments. Came out to eat with 5 adults and 2 kids, tried to use the $25 gift cards and they told us we can only use 2 per table and cannot split the bill. They also told us we didn't buy them there and we bought them at Costco because there is yellow on the gift cards?? Never have I ever bought gift cards at Costco... they also stated that it says on the gift card that you can only use 2 per table, ours doesn't say that ... wouldn't recommend Sofia's to my worst enemy. My family and I came here for dinner last week and we loved the vibe of this place. We didn't think we were in Toms River because this place is decked out and it was high energy from staff and the other guests. When you walk in, it looks like you can rent a private tequila room which is cool. On the right side upon entry, there is a hot sauce wall which is also cool. Our waitress was really kind, like every time you talk to her she is smiling and personable. My brother loved his chicken burrito, he said its the best he has had in a while. I am a vegetarian and surprisingly not impressed by the options they have. Every vegetarian option has zucchini and other veggies but lack the protein which easily could be black or pinto beans. I ordered the Zucchini without the zuchini and replaced it with black beans and so it was just corn and beans. It was fine, but I wouldn't order it again. If there is any flexibility to update the menu, I recommend adding bean options to burritos and tacos. Everything else is great. read more

I'm honestly pretty shocked by the high reviews of this place, since on my visit it just came across as your fairly stereotypical "chain Mexican food" but with an exorbitantly high price tag. Perhaps people are razzle-dazzled by the (admittedly festive and fun) decor?? Anyway... Came here shortly after opening (late Dec) with some friends to check out the hubub. First thing I noticed was the decor, which admittedly was incredibly well done and a HUGE step up from the dull interior of Roxy's (the former tenant). Festive lights and Mexican-themed decor fill every wall, music plays (a bit too loudly) on the speakers, adding to the festive environment. Ambiance-wise, it reminded me of "Chevy's Fresh Mex", or a Mexican-themed TGI Fridays. Service was quick and attentive, although they were incredibly eager to grab plates to clear off tables; some of which were still being eaten. I get the eagerness to rotate tables, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't feel a little rushed. For food, I had a margarita and some al pastor tacos; both of which came out fairly quick. In all honesty, both were just "fine". The 'rita tasted a bit like your typical sugary "bar mix", which was a little disappointing, and the tacos were decently tasty, although not quite what I was expecting in terms of 'al pastor' flavor. A friend ordered some of the 'secret' guac for the table, which while tasty was a pretty laughably small portion size, given the price. I can hit "Tacos Los Compas" or "Mi Casa Tu Casa" up the road, and get FOUR TACOS for less than the cost of this appetizer, for crying out loud. Speaking of which, getting the check at the end of the meal was a surprise for all of us. My three moderately sized tacos were *twenty dollars* and came with nothing else on the side. No rice, no beans, nada. For that price, you guys can afford to throw in a side, c'mon. That tiny (like 1 cup or less) guacamole was $13. Refills on sodas and drinks? Nope, that's extra too. Oh, and if you want to use credit instead of cash? That's an extra 4% on the whole check. The amount of nickel and diming this place does is *EGREGIOUS*. I'll grit my teeth and bear any one of those things, but not all three. All in all, "OK to decent" food, but insanely high prices and somewhat stingy; felt like a NYC tourist trap. Save your money, go to one of the nearby family-owned Mexican restaurants (there's a ton!) - you'll get more authentic food, better portion sizes, and will have saved enough money to buy an entire bottle of pre-mixed margarita. I'd consider going back, the food itself was fine, but being cheapskates with basic side dishes as well as the insane prices / charges makes this a tough sell for a future revisit. Went with family for my husband's 84th, and he is still raving about the food a day later. He had the grilled salmon and made us all have a taste. Best he's ever had. Wow! My wife and I have driven past this beautiful restaurant multiple times and finally decided to go for lunch. Everyone in this restaurant has a big smile and greets you warmly and professionally. This restaurant is enormous and has different dining areas, including a private dining room, which I thought looked amazing. We loved the decor, it's very clean, modern and bright. The complementary homemade salsa and chips were fantastic. We ordered the guacamole as an appetizer, I had the bean and corn burrito. I added guacamole it was fantastic, my wife had grilled chicken fajitas. She said they were amazing. My wife had a frozen margarita which she said was delicious, I had a Modelo Negro, which was served in an ice cold pint glass which I absolutely love. They serve ice, cold water in mason jars, which is also a nice touch. I also thought that the prices were very reasonable for the food quality and portion size. So my son and I decided to have dinner here yesterday. From all of the mix reviews I was definitely skeptical of going but really wanted to try this place out. From the parking lot you could tell it was pretty busy but we were seated right away because it's ample enough seating in there. Our waitress was Maddie and she took care of us and was knowledgeable with the menu. The service was quick because food came out fast. We started off with our drinks along with guacamole and the wings they also give you complimentary chips and salsa. The manager came over and offered us to try the in house sauces and I'm so glad that he did because the sauces took the wings to another level. My son actually purchased two of the sauces on our way out. Next we ordered tacos and when they came out my carne asada tacos were very undercooked that blood was dripping out the tacos onto the board. I had to ask is that sauce or blood which I already knew the answer. Maddie came over and apologized and stated that she never seen this happen before but will take care of it. When my taco order came out properly cooked this time I was also given complimentary rice and beans which were delicious The tacos were also good but lacked the chipotle pineapple flavoring. The decor in the restaurant is very eye catching and I enjoyed all of the different phrases posted throughout on the walls. I believe I will give Sofia's another shot in the future. 3 girls that greet you should be replaced immediately. Blackened chicken tacos were so tiny. you could easily eat 10 of them. Also the chicken was not blackened. The meat was Snow White and flavorless. The drinks were OK but not the best that I've had. Sorry but I would not recommend. Small portions , bad hostess and tasteless food. I should mention that our waiter was excellent. He should get a job where the food he serves is as good as the service he provides. read more

Their food is always delicious but this review is about the service which made us feel so very welcome & nothing was too much trouble. Everyone we encountered from the welcoming ladies to the bus boy (gentleman). He even tried to teach me a couple of Spanish words. Tried this place out last Wednesday with a girlfriend. We're both taco and guac snobs so we were hoping this place could become a new go-to. The outside is a little obnoxious but the ambiance inside was actually pretty cool! Ordered the "secret guac" of course and it was really good. Flavors packed a punch but remained pleasantly balanced. Our waiter Vincent recommended the cucumber jalapeno margarita and the mangotini saying it was the best drink he'd ever had. Sounded like a stretch but holy crap was he right. I would come back even just for those alone. For apps, we had the street corn and beef empanadas... and for our main meals I ordered the birria tacos and my friend had the blackened shrimp burrito. Def did not disappoint. Being as full as we were at this point, the waiter still somehow convinced us to get the tres leches cake for dessert. I dunno if it was his baby-blues or just the craving of something sweet but it was a good ending to a great meal. Outside of the food and service, I gotta say, the place is a little loud for my liking.
