Enticed by the exceptional Yelp rating, I thought it was not much of a risk to try. As we walked in, we were greeted by a server, who was very helpful and patient to introduce all the food in the buffet. What also comes with the buffet is a choice of chicken or beef kobab. Since there were only two of us, we ordered one of each. The chicken kabob was awesome. It was moist, flavorful, and nicely grilled. The beef kabob was very delicious too. The beef was not regular chunky beef, but was sausage-like. It's probably more of the Mediterranean kabob style. In addition to the kabob, I liked the lamb stew, A bit greasy, but very well-seasoned and tasty. I put it on top of the steamed Turkish rice. It was so yummy! I also liked the pita bread. It was not as soft and tender like what I had before. But as long as it's fresh bread, I have nothing to complain about. The soups were great also. There were two options: spicy soup and lentil soup. I liked the lentil soup better. It had a nice consistency. The spicy soup was on the saltier side, still very delicious though. Other items I tried and liked include the mixed vegetables, fried chicken wings, spicy hummus, sweet dates, and the cake. The stuffed grape leaves is a honorary mention. It was not overly sour and salty like what I had before. I was able to consume a few of those. The owner was very friendly and came over to ask us about the food. This personal touch means a lot to our dinning experience. You're not just their customers, but their guests also. Although there is not a huge selection of food items, every item was well-prepared and nicely done. They also have Turkish coffee. I'll definitely give it a try next time I'm here. If you're in a mood for some home-style Mediterranean food, give it a try. read more

We tried this place based on the good reviews and a hankering for Turkish food and had a similar experience as described by other yelpers. The owner warmly greeted us at the door, shaking all our hands and then showing us all the options on the buffet. Truly a great representation of the warmness and hospitality of the Turkish culture. We ordered half and half Chicken and Beef kebab and started out on the buffet. Since this is a smaller place, there are not as many options as found at some of the other Mediterranean buffets, but the quality here is, in my opinion, definitely a notch higher. The Lamb stew and the kofta were delicious and so were the Hummus and Chickpea salad (which I usually don't eat at other places, but got seconds from here). The highlight was the kebab though. The beef was tender and well spiced, but when we come back I will opt for all chicken, because that was truly amazing. It was tender, juicy and bursting with flavor. In between the owner came back to ensure we enjoyed our food and in the end shook our hands again as we left. So, if you like Turkish food at all, this is the place to go! read more

I feel terrible rating this place low as I really wanted to like it, the owner greeted us when we came in and was friendly. The place was really empty and only 1 other group was there at the time. (About 2.5 hours prior to closing) We went up to the buffet and served small portions of basically everything, it is a smaller buffet. Not a problem, I figured that would allow a more curated menu of developed flavors, but unfortunately it did not. The owner let us know that we get a kebab of our choosing, chicken or beef, and fresh pita bread. Then went into the back and made it fresh. The stews were decent, a little lacking in flavor but I enjoyed them nonetheless. However, many things tasted "off". I felt like the food was not fresh, it was the evening and I would be willing to bet that this food was put out upon opening. The kebabs were great, very flavorful and tasty. if everything tasted that good then this place would be rated very highly. However, the general atmosphere was dirty and with the food also not tasting fresh I would say it's not worth risking food poisoning over. read more

The food was good, a little on the salty side. The kebabs that we ordered were also good and they came out in 10 minutes or less. However, the drinks were HORRIBLE. The water tasted so weird and the lemonade was super sugary. The inside was decent but the silverware wasn't completely clean. It kind of felt oily as if it hadn't been washed correctly. So, I've been to Turkey many times and was recently craving for an Adana Kabob. Got on the old Yelpster and found the Sofra Kebab House. I was met by the owner who ask if I had ever been here before. I told him no and I was craving an Adana Kebab. I showed me the lunch buffet, which usually I prefer to take a pass. My kebab choice wasn't on the buffet, but he offered to make me one an help myself to a trip to the buffet. So, glad I did. For a place called "*** Kabob House", you would expect some stellar kabob. The addition of a buffet would only get one more excited. Unfortunately, neither of these things are worthwhile. Their service is small, by which I mean it's just who I presume to be the owner seating you and then cooking until you leave, at which point your table is bussed. I'm guessing times have gotten hard. As for the food, here is where it really gets sad. I came here once years ago and never again because they had a disingenuous policy where the buffet price for anything more than 1 plate sans kebabs and drinks was higher than advertised. With a bad taste in my mouth, I wouldn't return until recently, where I called ahead to see if that policy was still in place. Per the owners word, the buffet was all inclusive, one price with your helpings of all they had to offer. Reassured, I went for dinner with friends only to find out that not only were drinks extra per cup, but each person only got one measly plate of either chicken or beef kabobs which couldn't be readily reordered. After all that debacle, one would hope they would have the quality to justify the exclusivity. This was not true; most food was poorly seasoned, and the 4 pieces of chicken kabob were the only item I'd say were 'good'. I know that I have a lot to say, but this review has been a long time coming and with a whole groups disappointment on my shoulders, I can only advise you with honesty in hand. Ray is the owner and is absolutely amazing and personable. All of the food was delicious! The vibe feels like Ray invited you to his home for a Home Cooked Family meal. Fresh Kebobs made on the spot too. You truly feel welcomed here. The flavors and spices are on another level. Flavorful, delicious, amazing! And affordable. I like this place very much. You get a portion of kebab, hot foods bar and salad bar and fresh pita bread for a very reasonable flat fee. The owner who is also the chef is very friendly. We tried Sofra's for the first time and it was delicious!! This is the best Mediterranean food I've tried between Texas and California. The meat was juicy, tender. & flavorful! I liked my chick pea salad too! The rice was soft too! Hummus was decent but I liked it still. Our pita bread was kinda hard but it wasn't the restaurants fault I came 40 minutes late to pick up so I think that's what made it stale but would have been soft I'm sure. The owner was kind too. I came here for lunch about a week ago since I would be in the area and based on all the reviews. It was simply delicious! First a warm greeting and then the most wonderful question about my kebab preference... this was the most tender, juicy and flavorful chicken I've had in some time. One usually doesn't get all three adjectives with chicken breast. The options are plentiful on the buffet: smooth baba ganoush and hummus (did I mention the fresh hot pita bread that's also brought out to your table?), a lamb stew that paired well with fluffy rice which I wanted to shovel into my mouth but I do have manners. Bottom line - friendly warm service and delicious made from scratch food proudly showing the care and commitment from the owner. Go and experience another culture in your backyard. read more

Wow. This place is wonderful. It was our first time here and we came in just before the lunch rush on a Tuesday. The owner greeted us personally and walked us through each item in the buffet and explained that each person gets choice of chicken or ground beef kebab made fresh and brought to the table. The kebabs and fresh hot pita were delivered shortly after we returned to our table with loaded plates from the buffet. Everything tasted superb (lamb stew and chicken kebabs were stand outs) and the texture of the chicken kebab was so tender and juicy it reminded me of lobster meat. The Turkish coffee and chocolate pudding was a lovely way to end the meal. Note: I'm following a low-ish carb diet and had plenty to eat without the rice and pita. The chocolate pudding is only lightly sweet and you can get the Turkish coffee unsweetened as well. read more

Stopped in for lunch today to try the buffet and it was delicious! Everything tasted fresh and there was a great selection. The buffet also comes with a kebab and some pita. I chose the beef kebab and it was marinated and cooked excellent! I also got to meet the owner and chat for a bit while he prepared me a Turkish coffee on my way out. First time visiting Sofra based on my neighbor's recommendation and it was worth going. Upon walking in, we were greeted with a genuine smile and the owner kindly walked us through all the buffet options and asked us what kind of kabob we would like to accompany the buffet options. My friend picked beef and I went with the chicken so that we could share. The food was freshly made and the kabobs were very tender and perfectly seasoned. I tried a bit of everything and enjoyed it all. Every dish is delicious and flavorful. The kebab chicken has amazing seasoning and was so moist. We came in here to check about catering for our wedding but unfortunately the place didn't have the capacity to deliver the food and it would've been a hassle for us. Which was sad bc the food was really good. The owner was very welcoming and gave us a tour of the buffet options. The chicken kabobs they make a la carte were DIVINE. Tender and flavored. The food is absolutely excellent everyone I've ever taken. They're loves everything. The kebabs are the best I've ever had do not miss the kidney bean salad. The owner operator greets you at the door and makes you feel like family. It's a warm, welcoming, small family owned restaurant. It is a most pleasant date place or place for a family dinner. Tried this place today after reading all the reviews and trying to find our new favorite Mediterranean restaurant. We were seated immediately and our host explained us the buffet. He then came back with our pita bread,falafel and chicken kabab after 15 minutes and we saw him again only while we were about to leave, no one showed up to clear our plates from the buffet. They had just 2 highchairs for the entire place and some of had to put our kids on our lap The pita was crunchy and bad and for a place that boasts of unlimited food, he never asked us if they were ok or if we wanted more of it. The falafel were burnt outside and under done inside. I would have told him that, but he came back out on the floor only after we were done and ready to leave, he then took $2 off our bill and said it's hard cooking falafel right The salads on the buffet were not the kind i saw in the many other Mediterranean restaurants we ate, felt like canned peas thrown in to a bowl with salt etc and lettuce? And some veggies floating in water. The hummus was no good, the babaganoush and potatoes were the only things that were nice. The couscous tasted terrible , he only brought out dessert as we were leaving and some other customers asked for it. NOne of the dishes on the buffet were labelled, he said they were out of chicken wings for the day and didn't even apologize for it and charged the standard price anyway. I wouldn't go back or suggest this place to anyone. At $13 a person + tax with less than mediocre food and experience, I believe we have a lot more decent options in the metroplex read more

Really good food! We stumbled here after a Home Depot run and were hoping to get a kabob plate to share. Walked in and the very nice owner/chef told us that only buffet was available. OK- there go our plans to cut some calories/weight, but the diet can start tomorrow. There was a solid spread for the price- loved the pickled veggies and hummus. Lamb/chicken dishes were surprisingly tender and delicious. We each got a kebab with our buffet- got one chicken and one beef/lamb. I picked this place for my birthday today, never having been there before. It is now literally tied for my favorite resturant of all time. I just got a little of everything on the first trip, and I could not believe how good each one was. The Turkish seasoning was fantastic. Every meat was tender and seasoned perfectly. Even the rice, hummus, and cous cous were above par. This will be my staple when I go to Plano. If it was closer I would be there on a regular basis. But I am still going to take all of my friends who really like good food. read more
