We visited on a Sunday night. Location is tucked into a strip mall so plenty of parking. The owner, Ray, greeted us and remembered us from several months ago. We had the buffet ($17.99 pp weekends, $14.99 pp weekdays) and it was outstanding. Several salads ( red cabbage, tabouli, lettuce), fresh hummus, fresh pitas, at least 4 different types of stews with different meats, and rice. If you choose the buffet you also get a fresh, made to order skewer of choice of meat ( we wind up bringing home leftovers). There are also 2 different desserts to finish with. The owner checks with you to ensure you have everything you want and is extremely pleasant to talk with....love the small place and friendly atmosphere. They also have several kabob plates starting at $10.99 if you are not interested in the buffet. Worth every dollar and helps this small business survive. Highly recommend. read more

My daughter and I had the buffet lunch on a Saturday. The place was clean with lots of tables and a decent size buffet which also comes with hot pita and a kebab which is made to order. The owner Sam was hustling hard to cook, bus tables, cashier and replenish the buffet. Every meat we tried was tender and well-seasoned - chicken, kebabs, gyro meat, etc. Drinks are self-serve and if you choose a 2-top there are little ledges and outlets to charge your phone. On the way from Dallas, I picked up dinner for my husband and I. COVID-19 restrictions were set in place, so there was no dine-in option but I did place an order with a staff member who I assume is the owner? He was really nice and friendly! I ordered inside the restaurant and he brought out my food to my car when it was ready. I ordered the Sultan Plate which had three kebabs (chicken, ground beef, lamb) and a beef kebab plate. Both plates had it own a side of rice, hummus, pita bread, salad, and dolma. The portions were plenty. The kebabs were the most juicy and savory kebabs I've ever had. Wow! We were really impressed. We were most surprised with the chicken, because we usually almost always had dry chicken kebabs, but Sofra had the best we've had. I look forward to coming here again, hopefully for their lunch buffet if it makes a comeback after all this COVID-19 stuff calms down. I wish I could give this place higher ratings since the owner was so friendly, but the food just wasn't up to par whatsoever. I ordered ahead of time through yelp's eat24 and figured it's a must try since the reviews were so high, but when I walked in around dinner time and saw it so empty, I had a feeling something wasn't right. Here's my breakdown: Service: When I ordered my food through the yelp app around 6 pm, it said the food would be ready within 15 minutes. I reached the place just a few mins earlier and walked in to see if it might be done earlier. The owner of the place welcomed me and asked about my day etc, and asked how well done I'd like my kabobs. I told him medium since I wouldn't want super dry kabobs, and he had my order ready within 5 mins! He was such a nice guy and gave me extra sides to try as well! 5/5 Ambiance: This place is def super casual with lots of seating. Nothing too crazy with decorations but still looked nice and you also get to see all the food since its buffet style. It was quiet when I got there since there wasn't anybody else there. Food: This is where this place loses most of its stars... I ordered the chicken kabob plate and the beef kabob plate with both medium done. When I got home, i took a bite out of both kabobs and they were both half way cooked!!! Huge turn off from there... also, the rice was overcooked so it was all mushyy and lacked flavor. The food here is delicious, meat is halal and tender, not to salty. The service is extremely professional and the restaurant is amazingly clean!!! The price, compare to other restaurants, is affordable to everyone, and I would say for the quality of the food the price would be higher, but I was surprised that the price is cheaper than I thought. The food...oh the FOOD! Absolutely incredible food!! We stopped in on Thursday evening, having changed our plans of going to the State Fair due to the president being in town and traffic predicted to be a mess, so we decided to stay close to home and try somewhere new. Enter Sofra. The reviews were so high and it was not 10mins from us, so why not? We love Mediterranean food, anyway! The place was empty (uh oh?), the news on, and the air smelled incredible. The reviews and the smells were enough to tempt us, even if there was no one there. We were greeted very warmly by the owner, Ray, as if we were old friends come back again, and asked our kebab preference (one beef, one chicken please), and told it would be about 10mins. The foods in the buffet were explained (hummus, baba ganoush, chickpea salad, a kidney bean dish [I don't know the name], couscous, rice with orzo, lamb stew, chicken stew, wings, spiced potatoes, kofta, steamed veggies, lentil soup, and spicy chicken soup, plus chocolate pudding and an almond cake. My husband and I took a little of everything except dessert, and warm pita bread was dropped off. We were told it would be a few more minutes for our kebabs but we told him we were in no rush and set to enjoy our plates. Oh...oh so delicious. I scooped up my hummus and baba ganoush with the spiced potatoes as I can't do bread (pity, the pita bread smelled so good and it was warm) but trust me, I was not upset with my scooping vessel. The spice on the potatoes complimented the dips nicely. The chickpea salad and kidney bean dish were very good, flavourful but not overbearing. The kofta were good, fresh and not rubbery like some I've had. The wings were actually juicy (I've had some dry ass buffet wings before) and seasoned well, but not spicy. The chicken stew was absolutely wonderful too, just the right amount of heat and flavour combined. About this time, our kebabs came out and we we're checked on (trust me, sir, we are so good), and he turned off the news in favour of traditional sounding music. I'm all for music, but they were discussing the Democratic Debate, so we told Ray that, since we were alone (a travesty), if he'd rather watch the news, we were on board. We all agreed that the news was pretty interesting so it was put back on. It made for some great conversation between me and the hubs. The kebabs were so tender I could cut them with my fork, and they were absolutely outstanding. About this time, though, after the kebabs and another plate of this and that, we had to call it a night. Hubs had the almond cake and said it was just the right amount of sweet to round out a meal. We didn't get coffee this time, but it's in the plans for next time. We boxed up the remaining kebabs, paid for the two buffets, and were well pleased with everything: price, food, and experience. We shook hands again with our new friend and rolled out to the car, unbuttoning pants, groaning, and maybe limping a little the whole way. We try to be mindful of what we eat and I would venture a guess that everything (aside from the cake) was on the healthier side of the scale. If you're watching what you eat for your health, Sofra seems to give you plenty to choose from. I try to stay lower carb, but the potatoes and dips got me. I'm not mad, though. ***The standout dish was the lamb stew.*** The lamb stew MUST be had. In a bowl, too, not on the plate, mixed with other foods. Give it its proper due. I will be ordering that from Grubhub, for sure. It has all the makings of a hangover's bestie. Please do your taste buds and your stomach a favour and go to Sofra. As someone who has traveled to Turkey multiple times and had authentic Turkish food in Turkey and elsewhere, this place hits the Mark. There is a buffet but brilliantly you get one kabob per person and it's grilled fresh rather than sitting to get old and stale. This is why his kabobs are unbelievably tender and juicy and fresh. I got the Adana kabob and chicken kabob. Portions are perfect as I ordered a la cart instead. His prices are one of the most reasonable in dallas. The owner himself is very kind and friendly and easy to talk to. Overall a 10/10 experience I think this place is slept on. It has high reviews but I don't know if enough people know how great this place is. Only advice I'd give the owner: you have the brilliant Turkish food. Connect your customers to your Turkish heritage perhaps with authentic tea and coffee etc. that would be a great cap to real. I love Turkish culture and love to learn a bout it. This place really lives up to its lofty reviews on Yelp. We went to Sofra yesterday with the family. First off the location isn't much to write about...a rather deserted strip mall in Plano, but the food makes up for it and more! Had the dinner buffet which comes with their kebabs. We tried both the Adana (beef) and chicken - both were amazingly tasty, juicy and well flavored. The buffet had an assortment of Mediterranean food like rice, lamb stew, chicken, dolmas, salad, lentil soups etc. All were good but surely took a back seat to the kebabs. Everything here is SO good. Owner was very kind, asked me if this was my first time and gave me a walk-through of his buffet. I appreciated this (most don't go out their way to show you their food). Made to order kebabs are part of the buffet deal. I tried the lamb and it came out hot, very delicious. Chicken wings were great, hummus, warm pita bread..all the sides virtually everything on my plate was good! I was stuffed after one plate..If you're going for another plate, I think it's additional $2-3, but definitely worth it (if you can eat more..). Highly highly recommend this place!! A special treat is the freshly made ground beef kebabs and chicken kebab brought to your table with pita. We eat a low salt diet generally, and felt the sodium to be a tad high. My bf and I were going out towards Plano and decided to Yelp restaurants around there. This place was the first one that popped and it had 4 1/2 stars! So obviously we wanted to try it. Not worth it at all! The owner/server/cook (he was the only one there) was super kind and sweet. But the food was a big disappointment. Lunch there is buffet style but the owner did let me order falafel. With the buffet you are offered 1 of 3 kabobs (chicken, beef, and gyro meat). My bf and I got chicken and gyro. Food was super bland. Only thing that was good was the hummus and and warm pita. Salad bar wasn't fresh, sautéed mixed veggies were super soggy, and all the meats tasted the same. Flavorless and bland. I was really disappointed. I wouldn't drive out that way for the food. Owner was really sweet so I hope he gets the help he needs to make his food good! read more

This is a great little place, pretty much everything that everyone else has said about it true. Starting with the friendly owner who greets you and serves you. I live in the neighborhood and have read many comments on nextdoor, but never had a chance to visit until today. Apparently the price had changed sometime in the past year, but it's now just one price for all you can eat buffet, which includes one kebab of your choice, ground beef or chicken. Price is 12.99. The kebabs come out in maybe 10 min, meanwhile you start on the buffet. There's not tons of options, but what they have is good. The different chick pea/bean salads are good. The red colored bean salad was least flavorful. Not bad, just not strong flavor. The hummus is good. They also bring you warm pita, so if you want more you need to ask. On the "meat" side of the buffet, there's rice, lamb stew, chicken stew, chicken wings, potato wedges, a vegetable mix and some soup. Rice was good. I'm not a fan of lamb, so I would say the lamb stew was ok. The chicken stew was good, though the chicken was a bit dry. The chicken wings were really good. I didn't try the other stuff. The chicken kebabs were really good, moist/tender and flavorful. The ground beef kebabs were ok, pretty much taste like ground beef, albeit with unique spices. The place is pretty small, not a lot of tables, so I imagine it can get filled pretty quickly. The owner said that one or two items ran out because they had a super busy lunch for Father's Day. No big deal. Overall, it's a nice little restaurant and worth a visit if you like Mediterranean food (it's says Turkish, but seems pretty similar to me, though I'm no expert). Much like a meeting at the office on a Friday afternoon, or a documentary on the act of blinking, I must warn you this review could be a challenge to get through. Not because Sofra is a lousy establishment and I'm going to be venting - nothing could be further from the truth! No, the challenge here is my lack of knowledge on the crucial subject of this review: Turkish buffets. If you want an in-depth explanation of the various foods, sauces and concoctions available across the buffet built in a 90-degree angle, this is not the review for you. But if you want to spend a quick couple of minutes marveling at my ability to fall in love with food I don't recognize, then keep reading, baby! Last Friday night, my dining buddy and I made tracks for Sofra. He had been plenty of times already, and had his heart set on "the best lamb stew" he's tasted. I heard the words "all-you-can-eat buffet," and my heart was set on consuming enough food to temporarily stun a buffalo. With our lofty ambitions secured, we pulled into the sprawling parking lot of the strip mall that has room for everything from a furniture store to what looked like some sort of karaoke parlor that was beckoning to my theatrical stylings. Sofra has a pretty nondescript patio set up right outside of the entrance, but no one was using it when we walked up. In fact, no one was using the dining room when we walked in - we were the only two customers when we walked in, but three more tables quickly showed up, including one table of eight, so you might want to come early if you're heading here on a weekend evening. As soon as we walked in, the owner came over to welcome us. This dude had the most positive spirit of anyone I have met in recent months. He was legitimately thrilled to see us, immediately asking what kind of kebabs we wanted (more on that in a second), before then making his way through the dining room to chat with all the tables as the evening went on. And this guy does multi-tasking like it's the easiest skill in the world: in one night, he cooks, he busses tables, he'll do refills, he can write a "New York Times" best-seller, he's able to split the atom and he inspires tales of fancy like the list you just read. The single dining room has high-table tops and lower tables scattered throughout, and customers can grab plates at the start of the buffet along the right wall. Everyone who visits gets their choice of a chicken or beef kebab, and the two of us were able to grab one of each when they were cooked and ready to go. They came after we had made our first trip through the buffet where we stacked pickled vegetables atop rice, helped ourselves to amazing sauces, ate our weight in chicken wings and slurped down the much-hyped lamb stew. (And yeah, that lamb stew was phenomenal.) By the time the kebabs came, we were chowing down on complimentary bread before practically drawing up a declaration of war for who was going to get the last piece of each kebab. Then we got up and went back through the buffet. Everything was delicious, and while it looked like there was some sort of cake-type dessert on the buffet, neither of us could muster the strength or stomach space to try it. We paid out at the register at the end of the buffet, thanked the owner and his equally attentive son, and then we were on our way. But will we be back? I actually think my dining buddy may have been back by the time this review is posted, so absolutely. The food was delicious, the owner was incredibly chill and we definitely got our money's worth during our time. Finally got a chance to try out this restaurant. We dined in for lunch and had the buffet. Food was extremely fresh and scrumptious (I only use this adjective when the quality and flavor of the food has really exceeded my expectations). Chicken and beef kefta kababs and bread were brought fresh to the table. My two young kids are picky eaters and ate things (kababs, chicken and lamb stews) they wouldn't typically eat. The owner, Ray, is quite a gentleman. He is so friendly and courteous. The restaurant is one of the cleanest I have ever been to. The salads on the buffet were fresh and flavorful. I went to this restaurant not knowing they served the buffet and I usually avoid the buffet restaurants. But this restaurant serves the best quality food with utmost hygiene. I just moved to Plano yesterday and so far the food scene has exceeded my expectations. Sofra was no exception. Most, if not all, of the food was homemade and you can tell the owner is a genuinely friendly man who just enjoys life. I came for the buffet, and my favorites were the beef kofta, hummus, beef stew, and spicy chicken soup. It was just a solid combo and you can eat pretty healthy here if that's your goal. The salad bar is also included and includes many Turkish favorites. You also receive a freshly made kebab with a buffet purchase, either ground beef or chicken. I opted for chicken because the kofta was pretty much a ground beef kebab in meatball form. So, my chicken kebab was the one thing I didn't enjoy, not because of the flavors, but because it was rubbery. This is not so much the restaurant's fault, but sometimes chicken just gets rubbery, and I have no idea why. There is plenty of parking so I don't see this being an issue. The parking lot is also fairly easy to get in/out of. About $14 gets you a superb buffet experience, with delicious Turkish flavors. I can't wait to go back. read more

This is a great example of how a buffet can operate in this Covid world. Plastic-ware and styrofoam plates aside... they have done a very nice job of combining a great variety of fantastic food with "common sense" safety and sanitation protocols. They work hard to make things as "normal" as possible. The food is very good, a ton of options and everything was fresh and hot and the way it should be. The kabobs you are given as part of the buffet are made to order and the chicken was especially good. This is the first buffet I have tried since Covid, I am still a little leery of them in general. Wow! Just Wow! Excellent Service, Flavorful & Fresh Food! This restaurant serves a Turkish Buffet that has a good selection of salads, Baba Ganoush, Hummus, Rice, Stews, and Soups. You have a choice of either Beef or Chicken Kababs. The Kababs are prepared fresh and served at your table. You are also served hot Pita Bread. The food is fresh and packs a lot of flavors. The service is outstanding the owner greets you familiarizes you with the food and makes you comfortable. While everything that I had was excellent, my favorites were the Couscous, Kidney Bean Salad, Turkish Rice and the Chicken Stew. The Chicken Kababs were just melt-in-the-mouth delicious. You get a choice of ground beef or chicken if you do the buffet, I chose the chicken and my boyfriend got the beef. I loved the texture and flavor of the chicken and beef. After searching for yummy Mediterranean options in the Plano area, we were glad to have found this place. We came during lunch time and there was plenty of seating to choose from. During lunch, they have several buffet options (one-time trip to the buffet, unlimited trips to the buffet) and an add-in option for additional kebab (beef, lamb, or chicken). We decided to go with the one-time trip to the buffet and the beef kebab add-in. The buffet options were quite diverse and included lentil soup, stuffed grape leaves, lamb stew, chicken stew, hummus, roasted potatoes, rice, and an assortment of fruits and salads. The lunch buffet also includes a small basket of pita bread. Overall, we loved the flavors of the dishes in the buffet. Everything was pretty well seasoned and our favorite would be the beef kebab add-in. The kebab pieces were perfectly seasoned and cooked to a nice medium rare, which paired well with the rice from the buffet. Very delicious! The only minor adjustments that we would have liked would be more seasoning on the rice and stews, which tasted great when mixed in with the flavors of the other dishes but slightly bland when eaten alone. That being said, we definitely don't mind coming back next time we're in the area.
