We had a good experience at Sogno Toscano after an event at the bookstore (also in The Grove) The Grove itself is one of the most crowded places to be, and it can sometimes take an extra half an hour to get into the parking structure (so plan accordingly if you're making a reservation) It was Sunday night, which, for us, naturally, is pizza night, and we were excited to try their "Roman style" pies. (often rectangular with a thinner crunch crust.) The whole vibe reminds me of Southern Italy, colorful plates and gorgeous dishes...It especially feels alive if you sit outside, which is their main seating area. It was a little cold for me, so I asked to sit inside, which they happily accommodated, but the vibe isn't quite as great...you sort of feel like you're backstage...a bit more cramped, with the staff hanging out and moving in and out with dishes to serve the folks in the larger, more lively outside seating. The food was good. The Fennel Citrus salad was beautiful and truly mostly fennel, so it gave a unique take on a salad. We shared the Pinsa Margherita, which was the only vegetarian pizza option on the menu (though I'm sure they could modify any of the others if you're looking for something different. It was pretty good, and we devoured the whole thing. There are a number of other vegetarian options (mostly pasta dishes) If we were to come back, we'd come in more moderate weather (for our tastes) and sit outside for the full experience. read more

This place is a cute escape from the hustle and bustle of The Grove! I enjoyed the green walls and decor - very calming and peaceful. lots of nice touches throughout. Gautam was our server and he was very helpful in recommending dishes and attentive throughout our time there. He makes a fabulous iced latte - the espresso is delicious! I braved the wilderness that is the Grove on a holiday and i needed a break from...the people, so I rushed into Sogno Toscano, for a bite at their uber inviting bar. Sat down around 2:30pm right at the bar and was greeted by John who was super nice and kind. Before entering this place, I was craving an arugula salad and this place had a few to choose from. I got the Insalata de Cargione (totally butchering the name) which was a (gigantic) simple salad with a huge pile of parmesan, crispy breadcrumbs, and a delicious vinaigrette. What is it about a simple arugula salad that gets me every time? This was absolutely perfect, especially since I paired it with a glass of prosecco! YUM The staff here were super warm and kind! I'm a huge fan of great customer service and this place had it! If I ever find myself in the hustle and bustle of the Grove again, I'll happily find shelter in Sogno Toscano to do it all over again. read more

We had just finished up at the Petersen Automotive Museum -- super awesome experience (check out my review on that) -- and were looking for a late lunch. The Grove mall was nearby, so we headed over... fair warning, that parking lot is nuts. Once you get through that mission, you're good . The Farmers Market had plenty good-looking options, but we wanted to actually sit down, take our time, and enjoy the day. Since the weather was nice, Sogno Toscano felt like the right move. We asked for a table outside right in the middle of the busy shopping area, and it ended up being perfect. We ordered the fried calamari, fennel citrus salad, pinsa diavola, and tagliatelle bolognese. Food was solid all around and hit the spot. Service was great, and the manager/owner even came by to check on us and talk story for a bit after finding out we were from Hawaii -- always nice when people take the time to connect. Good food, great service, and a really nice atmosphere sitting in the park area in the middle of The Grove. Solid way to wind down after a full day out. read more

Tried this spot for the first time two weeks ago and it became an immediate favorite. Came back for the second time today and immediately felt like a regular. The staff is AMAZING. John, the bartender, was helping us both times we came and always had the best drink recommendations (even those off the menu). He's a Rolodex of drinks, coming up with combos I've never even heard of, but each drink is a hit. Simone the sommelier is also super friendly and very knowledgeable. Even thought I'm not a wine guy, he provided great entry level wines and recommendations (and an all around good time). The one thing I will say about this place is that each and every staff member is social, friendly, and makes you feel at home. The food is AMAZING as well. We tried the meatballs and the Caprese, both of which where's amazing. We had to get the bread basket to round it out, which comes with authentic olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I've been to Italy before, and it brought me back to the restaurants in Naples with the amazing flavors. The bologna sandwich was AMAZING! So fresh, so yummy. We got a sandwich and asked them to cut it into thirds to accommodate our group, and they were more than happy to do so. We spoke to the staff and some locals who frequent, and were informed that a lot of the ingredients come straight from Italy, and it shows. It's a great place to just come in a chill for a drink between shopping or to get a full meal. Very yummy and affordable for LA/the grove. It's quickly become a local favorite and we'll definitely be back. The bar is the place to be if you're trying to chat (either with other patrons who are very friendly, or the wait staff), but if you want to sit and eat in a pretty place, they have an upstairs area as well. 10/10 would recommend, no notes. read more

The calamari, marguerita pizza, artichoke salad, pastas, and tiramisu were all delicious. The calamari batter was light and not old flour and heavy. The marguerita pizza had the right balance of sauce. The marina sauce for the pasta was flavored just right, not too salty nor sour. The seafood pasta was skimpy on the seafood and pasta was too al dente. The tiramisu was not too sweet and had a light rum flavor. The arugula artichoke heart salad was kind of tough. I've been wanting to try this restaurant for a while and had very high hopes. Sadly it was just ok for me. The dishes were lacking seasoning and were average which is not what you would expect for a $30-$40 plate. Service and location 10/10. Very clean and the waiter was amazing. I ordered the pesto pasta with grilled chicken - the chicken looked and tasted like it had been boiled, super dry and not a dash of salt in sight (6/10). My son had the chicken with arugula salad and while it was better than mine, it was still nothing special (7.5/10). The star was the dessert 10/10. If you want good pasta just go to Marmalade Cafe and then come to Sogno Toscano for dessert and a glass of vino. read more

The patio, not going to lie, felt a little cramped with too many tables and being too close to comfort to other diners and their kids. Service was great though - The food came out fast and our server was pleasant and chatty. Ordered the carpaccio di manzo, pomodoro, and pesto. Everything tasted fantastic. The raw beef tasted great with the arugula, parmesan, and mustard. As for pasta, both were cooked al dente, with fresh and flavorful sauces. They have a waiter who feels like he's acting Italian and the food is trying to be Italian while nothing is actually pulling it off. If you like "kinda Italian" I can even think of better places. It our first time to Sogno Toscano. We sat outside near the fountain so we got to see the fountain show. The staff were really nice and attentive. The service was quick with our food. Food: as a vegetarian, the options were limited. But we ordered the Burrata as an appetizer and it was delicious. They did replace the meat with veggies which was nice. We ordered two pasta dishes - pomodoro and pesto. You can taste the fresh ingredients. I will say they need to provide more sauce as both pasta dishes were dry. read more

I wish there was just a little more citrus segments to enjoy -Fichi burrata e crudo (4/5) exactly what you're expecting -Margherita pizza (4/5) nice dough, melting mozzarella, and little basil with some evoo. wish there was more basil -Polpo (5/5) cooked to perfection, all around solid dish -Branzino (catch of the day) (5+/5) the chef's sauce of lemon and butter was so delicious. the branzino was prepared beautifully butterflied and deboned. as if the food couldn't get better -Tiramisu (5++/5) best tiramisu I've had...and I love tiramisu. the lady fingers were soaked in a delicious espresso. no skimping on the espresso flavor here. must save room to enjoy this! Service was friendly. Ambiance was great sat both inside and in the patio. Went on one occasion on a Sunday for dinner. What a bust! With good ratings, nice outdoor seating and a tasty looking menu, I had high expectations for this spot. I looked at the dishes that others were munching on and for some reason the tomato sauce and the salad just did not look fresh. We sat down and the first thing we heard was "they sent it back." We were hungry and there wasn't a wait so we decided to dine in. We ordered a pizza (essentially pepperoni) and a tagliatelle truffle pasta (one of the pricier ones on the recommendation of the server who seemed like the manager). The pizza crust was burnt, no real crunch to the crust and tug to the dough, the sauce was nothing special and neither was the topping. It wasn't even hot when it came out. We should've just gotten a Costco pizza... The tagliatelle had black truffle shavings on it (why it was pricy) but the mouthfeel of the pasta was too thick and again, no bounce. At least it was al dente. The sauce was ok, couldn't taste any truffle oil. We sat in the hall indoors of the first floor, which was annoying since servers kept passing back-and-forth through us. I almost fell off the seat cushion, cause it wasn't tied to the chair. Otherwise, the service was decent and since I wasn't satisfied with the pasta dish, they gave us a discount. Bartender was so loud and singing to the music right next to where we were sitting, which kind of ruined the vibe since this restaurant is generally classy appearing. There are not many choices for restaurants at the Grove unfortunately, but I wouldn't waste your money here. read more

Disappointing and misleading experience My friend and I (two women) went to Sogno Toscano at The Grove expecting a nice dinner and left feeling misled. We ordered two appetizers, salmon, and a steak after the server suggested a "special for the night" that included broccolini. At no point were we told the price of the steak, nor were we informed that it was intended to feed four people. That detail feels pretty important when recommending it to a table of two. The result? The steak alone was $200, and with the rest of the food plus two cocktails, the bill came out to $500. Completely shocking and honestly felt dishonest. A simple explanation of portion size and price would have changed the entire decision. The food was fine, but the lack of transparency ruined the experience. I'm writing this to caution others: ask detailed questions and prices before agreeing to any "specials." This kind of upselling without disclosure isn't okay. Unfortunately, we won't be returning. read more

There are so many things to love about Sogno Toscano at The Grove. The Tuscan-style focaccia sandwiches (the Bufalina is my favorite), the outdoor patio perfect for people-watching, and the beautifully designed indoor bar area all make it a standout spot. But what kept me coming back the most was the staff--especially the bartenders, John and Dylan Bona, both originally from the East Coast. Dylan, in particular, made me feel like I'd been transported straight to New York. Both he and John are incredibly skilled at crafting cocktails. They even introduced me to my new favorite drink, the Paper Plane--like sipping a summer afternoon in Italy. My job at the studio next door has wrapped, and I already miss the luxury of stopping by Sogno Toscano on my workdays. I'll definitely be returning to explore more of the Italian dishes on the menu and enjoy more cocktails at the bar. read more

So this restaurant I have went to a few times. Unfortunately, this time my experience was very unpleasurable. I sat at my table and waited for the server to come greet me. Upon his arrival, I asked to move to a different table that had a better view. He explained that although I'm just a party of one. A table for four I can go ahead and sit there however I didn't notice when I turned around to grab my things he rolled his eyes. I also asked for a lychee martini with him. After journaling at the other table 10 minutes, had gone by and I had not received any drink. Confused I went directly to the manager asking what's the estimate time on my drink thankfully, the bartender was right there and mentioned that there was no ticket ran up for the drink. I explained to them that I was confused because I did put the order in with the server. As I am telling on him to his manager, he cut me off and said that I said no I didn't want anything to drink at all when. I specified that I wanted alcoholic beverage and not water. Looking into the situation and also having 10 years experience in the restaurant industry. I understand the lingo "this person may not spend as much" because the treatment from that point forward was terrible! Disrespected that's exactly what I got. I sat back at my table. They gave me some fries as an apology. She said that there was a mix up as far as the ticket being printed she lied directly in my face because the bartender said there was no order that came in. It was very uncomfortable experience. I will never return. I do, however, thank the bartender for not only being honest, but being professional and respectful to me. read more

Came to The Grove a few weekends ago to shop and grab a bite to eat. My wife and I came across this charming pet-friendly, Italian spot with both outdoor and indoor seating. The menu looked great and the weather was warm so we grabbed a table outside. A lot of trees and greenery give it a whimsical feel. The service was impeccable from hostess, to server, and staff. I wish I remembered our servers name. She was so friendly, attentive, and walked us through various selections. The food was absolutely delicious and very authentic. Some of the best Italian food I've had in LA and we've eaten at all the, "must visit" spots. This place easily holds their own. We ordered a fig compote, burrata, and prosciutto crudo that was full of flavor. The compote was excellent. I had the Bolognese Ragú and my wife had the Lasagna. Both were delicious, authentic, well seasoned and the chew on the pasta was divine. I can't stress that part more. The chew on pasta tells me a lot about a restaurant's quality of ingredients and understanding of the cuisine. We finished with one of best Tiramisu desserts I've had in years. The coffee was pronounced and the dessert melted away beautifully. We live in the neighborhood so this is an easy one to put in the rotation for us. Honestly did not expect to find a restaurant that's good at The Grove but we did. Highly suggest it for anyone heading over there. read more

Sogno Tocasno is the newest Italian restaurant at the Grove. With a light green aesthetic and beautiful floral plates, I'm getting a Gucci Osteria vibe and I don't mind. It started as an actual foods brand in NYC and this is now their second restaurant location here in LA, the first in Santa Monica. I've had brunch and dinner there now, but with such a big menu, there's still so much to try! They have a strong emphasis on wines and cocktails, so if that's your thing you may enjoy their libations. Though I can't comment on the liqs, their espresso was rich and tasty. The burrata at brunch was beautiful, with meat and figs that were just heavenly~! It was a variation of the Burrata & Crudo on the menu, some type of special that day the said would soon be added to the menu. They def should because we loved it. We also had an egg breakfast schiacciata/sandwich which we weren't big fans of. Last night I had the Pesto ($28) and Amatriciana ($32) pastas. My friend and I loved both dishes, though the Amatriciana won out a bit in terms of being my favorite. Fresh fusilli pasta with tomato sauce, pecorino fossa & guanciale (kinda like an Italian classy bacon) made up this slightly superior red sauce dish. In the lesser but still great other pasta, the hand-crafted cavatelli pasta was topped with a delicious pesto Genovese sauce. NOTE: They also sell their ssauce! Good sized portion on both pasta dishes. When we dined in Friday night, their was a live saxophonist and pianist. Super cute vibes. One note we noticed on both times, was time to wrap things up was a bit slow. Ordering and receiving food was fast, completely normal speeds but then on both visits we ended up waiting 20+ minutes for the check. On both visits, we noticed it looked to be just one server handling all the tables. Wowza, impressive and she's so nice...but there definitely needs to be another server. Overall, love the food at Sogno Toscano and it's a great option for us pre & post movies at the Grove AMC. We still have so~ much on the menu to explore! read more

This place attracts tourists because it's so adorable but locals like my boyfriend and I also love it because Simon and the servers are so personable and always take great care of their customers that it attracts locals for a neighborhood feel (especially during the weekdays when the grove is quieter).
