Very cute and lowkey wine bar. Came here after work with a few co workers and we had some wine and appetizers. They do also serve actual meals and it looked really delicious. We went with a wine tasting, which wasn't on the menu but we asked if they offered it. It was $30 for 3 wine choices (2 oz I believe). Either the somalier's choice or your own. But they definitely help you with picking the right options. The staff was super nice and friendly and knowledgeable about the wines. The appetizers were pretty good too. We had the fries, brussel sprouts (best choice), tater tots, olives, marcona almonds and hummus. Such a cute little date spot! We had a GNO dinner here and everything was perfect. We taste tested some wines and waited at the bar for a table for a little bit. The staffs are very nice and they moved us to a table quickly. Parking is a little tough around here so you'll have to circle around a while or valet at a restaurant next door. The mussels were delicious and the burger had a thick layer of chopped bacon in it so it's extra juicy. Highly recommend these! Will def be back to try the rest of the menu. Ooh I don't know... Melanie has cute romantic vibes but the night I went smelled putrid. The inside of the restaurant doesn't smell good at all even though they had a bunch of candles and diffuser sticks. They need to fix something about it because I wouldn't come back here just because of the smell. Our server was very attentive! But the food was just okay. I think the steak frites were overpriced given how bland the fries were, and the steak was a little under seasoned for my taste. The burger was juicy, but it was a little too greasy. The spicy pasta was OK. I wish the pasta was al dente. It was a bit overcooked 3/5. However, the cucumber salad -5/5 is literally cut up cucumbers in chili oil. Nothing tasty or good about it. The funny thing is. I absolutely love the same dish at Jade Restaurant in LA. But it's more creative and tasty. It probably cost $.30. If even that to make this dish. If I could give a lower star rating I would. So I went with my spouse to have a nice night out. We arrived and were seated by 8:30pm which I thought this should be enough time to have some wine and then head out by 10 pm when they close. I used to work in the food industry so I get it I don't want to be those customers that stay past closing. ....anyways the wine bottles are $85 and up....and let me tell you when I looked up this particular wine bottle it was worth less than $30....and tasted like a $10 bottle. I have had better wine at Trader Joe's, there was nothing special about this wine. If you want actual fine wine that is imported and excellent go to wine stop they have various locations in Los Angeles. Affordable and excellent. Continuing on with why I left a one star well remember how I said they close at 10pm? Well it was 9:15pm and they started stacking the chars on the tables all around us, making you feel like ok get out....ummmm it's not even 10 yet !?!? 10 minutes after that they brought us and the other people still there the bill without even asking us if we wanted to order anything more....they also stopped giving us water....by 9:45pm by husband was annoyed and wanted to leave so I had to gulp the last of my over priced wine to hurry out because obviously the staff did not want us there anymore. Will I ever go back. Hell no. There are far better wine bars around LA who prioritize customer service and actually have the quality of wine that matches their service. read more

This wine bar has the most delicious food and I've been to most, if not all, wine bars in LA! The tater lots with the spicy aioli are a must and their burger and mushroom risotto are also so delicious. I'm a huge fan of their wine recommendations and every time I come here, I try something different. The owner is so knowledgeable, attentive, and lovely and so my experience is very different from the experience of the reviewer down below. I've been here twice. Once on a date and once with a group of girlfriends. Both times the owner in particular and the staff are quite rude and unwelcoming despite having an empty shop. Wine and food is also not so great. I'd recommend going elsewhere. It's a shame because there aren't so many wine bars on this side of town, but it's way more worth it to trek out to Echo Park or Northeast LA than to come here. Sorry I won't post pictures of the food. It was too overwhelmingly delicious to take the time. This place was recommended by the hotel Palihouse ( which by the way is spacious and clean and totally cool and charming) so we walked over 3 blocks, no reservations, and were lucky to get our seats at the bar. The mussels were cooked to perfection, hot but still very soft and light in a sauce of curry coconut and who knows what else to make such a spectacular well rounded spiced up but not too much délicieux bouillon. The molted lava cake made me swoon with its very thin and light envelope lusciously delivering hot lava darker than night, tempered by vanilla ice cream. read more

I actually am so sad writing this review. I LOVED this place when the old menu was on there. It was smaller, but they were great at pretty much everything on there. Went to try the new menu and the food was pretty mediocre. Ordered everything new except for the steak frites, and even that was chewy. The new chef leans heavy on cream and tartness, so if that's your vibe then you'll love it. But the flavor was mid and for what we paid for the meal, I wasn't content or satiated. I'm so glad my other half surprised me with dinner at Melanie, I loved everything about my experience. We were there on Monday which turned out to be 1/2 off wine bottles which makes this wine-focused restaurant an amazing deal. The fact that I love steak frites was a major factor in the surprise he planned for me. I was in Paris a few months ago and have been craving it, I was very pleased with their version. We also got the Crab fettuccini which was good. They have a simple but good menu. Being a wine bar, they had a great selection of various wines. They even had a section for orange wines which I've actually never heard of! The service was also top notch. The manager was really on top of things and we learned about the struggles Melanie went through since they opened during the pandemic. I admire local businesses that made it through those tough times. He also mentioned in Jan they will also offer 1/2 off wine on Sundays. The ambiance of the restaurant is so nice. This is a perfect place for a date night, girls night out or maybe catching up with an old friend. It's a small restaurant with a dozen tables inside and several outside (with heat lamps). Parking is on the street which is my least favorite thing about coming to this area but Melanie is worth it and there were plenty of meters in the area since it was a Monday night. They have half off bottles of wine on Mondays, and starting in January, Sundays as well. We got there early at around 5:30, so we had no problem getting a table. It did get quite crowded after 6:30 though. The ambiance is cute, the service was attentive, and our wine was also very tasty. We tried the hangar steak and the crab fettuccine. It's cozy and adorable inside. But it does feel small and you can hear the other party's conversation. Service was great though. Wine selection isn't as big as I'd hope. Happened to stumble on this restaurant while on a walk and found the ambiance intriguing . There is a bar inside with a few seats , indoor and heated outdoor seating . We sat outside on a Saturday night . Service was a little slow but food and wine were good and prices were pretty decent . I had a glass of chilled red wine , tater tots, spinach and mushroom risotto and the hanger steak with fries and it was $108 including tax . The hanger steak was the winner with the yummy sauce all over . Intimate atmosphere, good wine, and close to home. It's no wonder why I'm a fan of Melanie. So, I'm a delusional broad. Full stop. One of my favorite pastimes is visiting quaint wine bars, having a solo meal and pretending that all or most of the patrons are completely in love with me. So, of course when I first walked into Melanie with its cozy and quiet ambiance, I knew instantly It was my type of place. Although there was available seating outside and at the bar, I had to snag one of the seats near the windows. I love people watching (plus I mean, I'm always trying to live out my mysterious "French girl" fantasies). Looking at the menu, I was thrilled to see they had a few French wines on special. I ended up with a glass of "Rene Leclerc Bourgogne Rouge 2017" and it was fantastic! So fantastic that later when I got home, I had to order a bottle. For food, I had the Steak Frites. Honestly, it was so good,perfectly medium rare, and pretty reasonably priced when taking into account the quality, area, etc ($34 if I'm remembering correctly). All in all, I love Melanie. The food and wine are wonderfully divine and it's near my place. Whenever the mood strikes me to go out on another solo date, it's nice knowing I have this gem in my rotation. read more

The staff at Melanie Wine Bar are SO knowledgeable and friendly. From the moment I walked in they made me feel so welcome. I really enjoyed the two orange wines I tried and the food was good too.
