My third visit since they opened in 2019. The Pig is quite a hike from downtown Buffalo, or I'd get there more often. I see this is going to be an update from my review of Oct 2020. Good. The Peppered Pig has grown and evolved wonderfully since then. As we approached, it seemed we might have a problem finding a parking spot. Luckily, I had a choice of three. In addition to a larger menu, kitchen crew and wait staff have increased, as well. Except for Chef/owner Chris and restaurant manager Nikki, I didn't meet any of the kitchen team. All other staff, including our server, Soula, were courteous, friendly, and appeared happy in their work. This happiness factor is so rare in service positions (stores and restaurants) that I had to mention it. Down to the most important: I had The Pig Burger. Pig Burger: 8oz beef patty seared in duck fat, tarragon aioli, bacon, brie, field mix, and tomato jam on sourdough toast. This was exceptional. I'd requested medium well . . . and this was the first time anywhere that the burger was exactly medium well. Delicious? I'm back home, 5 blocks from Buffalo City Hall, but I'd go back tonight for another, if they were open. Well, I'd want to. Then again, there were so many wonderful items on the menu, I'll probably try something different before I would have the Pig Burger again. And excellent coffee. We drive to Webster today for some errands. I have been wanting to eat there for a while now. Today, my partner surprised me with it. I had a steak sandwich. It had Peppadew cream spread, Arugula, and the beef was super tender. The bread crusty on the outside and soft on inside. It also came with fries. You could tell the fries are hand done, and fresh. I enjoyed it very much, and highly recommend it. My BF had the burger, he said it was really good. He enjoyed his meal too, very much. I always loved how cute it looked from the outside, and it is just as cute on the inside. Dress is casual, at least during lunch. I loved all the personal touches. Our waitress was on point, stress free, even though it was pretty busy for one server. I was impressed. It is bigger than I thought. The bar is when you walk in. Then they have a smaller dining area to the right, and a larger one to the left. It looks like they use the larger one for dining. It was a very smart set up. Decorated really well. French Farmhouse feel, in busy city. They did a great job. The little pig decorations, and how they transitioned the pig to their menu. We will definitely be going back. I saw so many different items I wanted to try. But today we kept it simple, due to time constraints. I just wish we had more time to enjoy it. But we will be back for dinner. read more

So impressed with this lunch experience! The server was so personable and paced the meal perfect. My non alcoholic peach ginger beer drink was very refreshing. My gf tried a bisque and I had a small wedge to begin. The wedge has fresh heirloom tomatoes and crispy flavorful bacon with crisp iceberg. My pork sandwich was phenomenal with caramelized onions savory pork and the roll was salty and chewy. The quiche was light and not overpowered by fillings. The burger was thick enough to be juicy but not too thick to be overwhelming. They use a high quality beef with good fat content which is key for juiciness. Simply seasoned and I love Brie which always adds richness. The wedge salad offered a good balance of textures and flavors. The lettuce was cool and crisp. So, Rochester has a French restaurant! Great!! We go there, walk in the door, and my first thought is "THIS is a French restaurant"? Big bar in the center, and a bunch of plain tables without tablecloths and un-upholstered wood chairs. Nothing impressive or fancy, but they WERE playing Edith Piaf on the speakers (as they do EACH time I've been there..). So, we sit down. These chairs are HARD AS A ROCK! I suggest bringing a seat cushion (I've worn my cycling shorts underneath to get just a bit of comfort). The bar is smack-dab in the middle of the place, so if any of the wives/girlfriends are getting a little trashed drinking wine there, the sounds of cackling carry throughout the restaurant. Some days the bar seems to be the main draw... Onto the food: What French dishes they have are mostly in the Occitanic style; Cassoulet, Duck confit, and they also have Quiche Loraine, Steak frites, and a really, REALLY good bouillabaisse. But the rest of the menu is mostly burgers and sandwiches, although a lot of things are cooked in duck fat, especially the frites. There is also a chicken jaeger schnitzel. But nothing of the more common dishes of French cuisine, like coq au vin, vichyssoise, beef bourguignon, ratatouille, etc. It's more of a pricey burger / bar joint with some French dishes. In short, it reflects Rochesterian's limited palates. Frankly, I'm surprised they don't have a "plaque à ordures" on the menu.... The 2 dishes (not of the sandwich variety) I can recommend are the Steak frites with butter and champignon onions (with duck-fat fries), and the bouillabaisse. The cassoulet, while nice, is hardly worth $29/order, and the white beans used are just plain bland. Maybe next time I'll even try a burger, but not for dinner. It's amazing how many people there ARE eating burgers for dinner, though. Just don't go there expecting a "traditional French restaurant experience". I guess Rochester just can't have something like that... read more

Have passed by a number of times and finally tried it out-- wish I had done it ages ago!! Had a fabulous meal, attentive staff, and a comfortable dining room. We did not have alcoholic beverages, but they had a nice wine list and a number of cocktails and mock tails. We started with a chicken liver mousse served with wonderful fresh salty bread and a fabulous jam. I had the chicken and biscuits-- lots of white meat chicken and homemade biscuits in a really nice mushroom gravy. My other half had a Bouillabaisse and said all the fish and seafood was cooked perfectly, and the broth was well seasoned. The quiche is super deep-dish, creamy and velvety and just fantastic, with a delicious caky crust. The second time I ordered the special, eggs benedict with jumbo lump crab. I am still dreaming of this dish. Crab isn't usually on their menu. Perfectly poached silky delicate eggs with runny yolks, topped with a generous helping of fresh sweet crab and hollandaise. The crab was as delicious as any I've ever had in Maine (and amazing for upstate NY!). One friend ordered the eggs benedict with pork belly and mascarpone and loved it, and another raved about the mussels. Can't wait to go back! read more

My granddaughter and I had a girls day out which included shopping, then brunch/lunch at The Peppered Pig. It was our first time at PP and it far exceeded our expectations. I'd give it a 15 out of 10! my granddaughter had the avocado toast with poached egg and she said it was delicious and would definitely order again. I had the pear bisque soup and a bowl of mussels. The soup was rich with flavor, using ingredients I would have never thought of combining. The creative use of these ingredients added many levels of flavor. Delicious and genius. After my soup, I was served a very generous bowl of mussels served in a buttery garlic and shredded onion broth. which I sopped up with grilled bread strips. It was exquisitely prepared with tons of flavor. We each had a great cup of coffee with our meal. The service was excellent; very attentive. warm, friendly, and fun. Nicki was our server and part owner of PP. The Peppered Pig is a very charming, happy place to be. It's warm and cozy, and very comfortable. We will definitely be going back on a regular basis. We loved the peppered pig! The patio outside is super cute (inside is nice too but I'm obsessed with the patio). The drinks and service is also good, but of course the best part is the food! My favorite dish by far is anything they do with duck, whether it be breast or leg, the skin is always crispy and the sauces and sides are always amazing. The apps are also very very good. This is one of the only places in Rochester to get French food, so you should definitely definitely come here!! read more

We just had Sunday Brunch at the Peppered Pig and it was a good experience. I ordered the Quiche Lorraine and my wife had the Shakshuka. We also shared an order of frites. Everything was good, with the Quiche Lorraine being the standout dish. It was rich and savory, while maintaining a light and fluffy texture. The Shakshuka was just okay and reminded me more of salsa than a traditional tomato-saucy dish. The restaurant was clean and service was prompt. I definitely want to return for dinner. read more

Ok. Every visit gives me an opportunity to savor some new item from the meal & drinks menus. I've tried several appetizers, sandwiches, and entrees and everything is delicious. Ingredients change with the seasons. The first Pork Belly I ate was resting on a bed of purée and whole lentils.The Summer version has pickled daikon, carrots, crispy shallots, soy BBQ. Bouillabaisse is delicious, hearty dish for any time of the year. Today I had the Burrata for starters and that is a meal in itself. Really fresh for Summer, refreshing. With fresh cheese, pancetta, olives, arugula, tomato vinaigrette. Shaved steak sandwich very good with the mushroom, onions, blue cheese on sourdough & frites. Hands down our favorite spot from the trip. We ordered the Goat cheese croquette and the lamb burger special. The croquette dish was superb. The outside was fried crispy and the inside was soft and rich. The raisin and beet compote on top was also a perfect way to balance out the dish from being too heavy. The lamb burger was so good, i cant help myself but order one. Bun was lightly crisped and the patty was very flavorful, highly recommend if its still available. I never knew this place was here before, but It was really good! The deviled eggs have maple in them, so they have a really unique flavor. And the goat cheese croquette was just amazing! The husband and I went to the Peppered Pig last night with 2 other couples. Our table was ready when we arrived and our waitress, Soula greeted us immediately and was a breath of fresh air and fun throughout our meal. Courses were brought out in a timely manner, waters were refreshed and plates cleared efficiently and with a smile. Ordered were steaks, and a quiche -both selections excellent. What a unique, surprisingly great restaurant-we been there several times and always had great food. Love the chicken liver mousse with salt bread and fig jam. I've had their bouillabaisse several times and it is always cooked to perfection, especially the shrimp. Service is excellent and never rushed.
