Soho Sushi in South Tampa off Kennedy boulevard is considered to be one of the best and most highly awarded sushi restaurants in all of the Tampa area after Samurai Blue in Ybor so we had to try it out and it did not disappoint! The Red devil deluxe sushi roll came with shrimp lobster avocado tuna 10/10 The Green menace deluxe sushi roll came with avocado & scallops. 9/10 The Volcano deluxe sushi roll w crab avocado topped w crab scallion roe. 10/10 Soho sushi offers friendly and attentive table service. We made NYE reservations for 7pm and what a great call that was! The parking lot is strangely configured where you spin around the building to get comp valet if you can't find a spot. Keep in mind the parking lot is about 15-20 spots at most. We got a table for 2 right away and dug right in as we were starving. We started off with some Seaweed Salad then ordered the Blazian, Ring of Fire, Yellowjacket Roll, Red Dragon, a few pieces of Unagi plus my wife ordered the Otoro an Tokoro (sp?). Now the specialty rolls were amazing and we have nothing bad to say about it as they were fresh and amazing, blazing with taste! My Unagi was great and there was some miscommunication between the Otoro and Tokoro so a manager comped one of those to my wife. It was not the servers fault at all! Once again, this place continues to impress us. We decided to come in, without a reservation, and have dinner to celebrate my new job. We were seated right away and our server told us they were celebrating their 20th anniversary by having a "throw back" menu. We chose the "throw back" Geso as our appetizer, which had a nice crunch and flavor. For our entrees we got the yellowtail crudo (also amazing flavor especially with the oranges and peppers), spicy crunch tuna roll, Mexican roll, and yam yam rolls. All were perfect! We finished off the dinner with their "throwback" salted caramel brownie dessert which was huge! Giving it 3 because in the past we have always had a great experience, but this time was so bad. Food took forever, which was disappointing because it's always been fast in the past, even when the place was packed. Appetizer was almost cold by the time it got to our table. The drinks took forever to come out, and I ordered the same thing both times; the first was fine (different looking and tasting from all the times I've had it before), and the second was undrinkable. I tried to flag down the waiter for a replacement, but at that point we had already paid and the hassle of waiting 20 more minutes for a drink that might be bad wasn't even worth waiting for the waiter to come back (which he didn't, even though he had walked past twice and not looked in our direction). Really disappointed after having a great experience every time in the past. Sushi did taste as great as always, it was just overshadowed by the nasty drink and slow service. I have been to the restaurant many times and had very good, fresh food. I have also done the car side pickup and had a nice experience. Delivery this evening was terrible. It did not take an excessive amount of time for the food to arrive but the soup and pot stickers were ice cold. They had to have been sitting at the restaurant a very long time. We had the Gasparilla parade this past weekend and the cold weather kept folks away. I postulate the restaurant prepared a bunch of food in advance of the parade and simply did not sell it due to lower than expected parade goers. The pot stickers were simply not fresh...at all. They were likely made last week on Friday. I was so hungry I ate them and hope I don't get sick. The ginger salad was also mediocre at best with very soggy lettuce (not dressed ahead of time). Additionally, the food arrived in a large grocery bag with about ten staples to hold it closed. I have never seen a restaurant do this before and imagine the reason is because it is dangerous. The risk of a staple dropping into the food when opening is definitely there and if a staple is ingested you are looking at a perforated bowel and a lovely ER visit with emergency (obviously) surgery. Another Tampa staple, The Capital Grille, was an absolute tragedy for me last week too. That is 0 for 2 on typical winners. I am afraid to go to another favorite restaurant lest I have my spirits dashed again. It was delivered by Door Dash but I don't think that is the "spirit" of the brand.
