Small quiet spot, very attentive waiter who checked on us often. The seats are loose so you can feel the other tables leaning into your back kinda unpleasant. Parking is huge right next to Walmart. I ordered miso soup and PA. The miso soup was 10/10 worth it super flavorful. The PA came with 32 rolls all basic which is kinda sad but for the price makes sense, loved some others were decent. I've been to Origami Sushi numerous times because it's a great place to get a quick takeout meal. Their happy hour pricing is unbeatable and their lunch special is also a great deal. Happy hour is daily from 4-7 pm. My favorite roll is the volcano roll which has a delicious baked salmon ball on top. Very filling and only $11.95 during happy hour. The white hot roll is also a great option with spicy tuna and jalapeño. The third roll we got was the Origami roll. I wasn't in love with this roll. The end pieces with a bigger portion of shrimp tempura were better but the middle bites were just okay. A great place to get filling sushi for a good deal! I got to try Origami through DoorDash back i August when I was in town for a vacation. I ordered the crunchy roll which is usually a pretty good go to. Unfortunately, the eel was tough and dry. The roll itself wasn't very flavorful. Also ordered the black dragon roll, it was okay. Not bad but not great. I'm not sure if my experience with the food wasn't the best because it was a to go order or not. I order sushi to go a lot and have never really had any issues. One of the neat finds around Tampa for sushi. The location is in an unassuming shopping plaza but the chef offers an incredible amount of choices for all of your sushi taste buds. The fish is fresh and the portions are large. I personally like the raw salmon the best but the others had some great flavors including the chicken teriyaki dish and eel cucumber roll. Sushi is one of my top 5 categories that I review/eat on Yelp. That being said the sushi here disappointed very badly. As of 05/23 a roll that cost $12.5 and tastes like this should be considered a scam. This place is not authentic first off. I shouldve known better if you eat sushi you can tell if it's good or not just based off the rice ratio and how it's rolled. Obviously these rolls are off, first red flag I shouldve looked closer at. No big deal, however the taste of the yuki roll was so bland. The spicy tuna had no taste and the shrimp tempura inside was just crunch and I got a hint of banana for some reason it was gross. The volcano roll was just a bunch of toppings thrown together and was also bland. Service was good. Called my order in and picked it up on time. Inside was kinda beat down with a radio playing music that kept cutting on and off. Definitely not coming back. Shouldve done my own research more before stopping by. Shame on people leaving 4 to 5 star reviews on here. My standards are set much higher eating at places that have Japanese chefs. If you eat Wegmans or Publix sushi. I went to Origami on Hillsborough Ave for lunch with a group of coworkers, and we definitely made the most of it--we ordered a little bit of everything, and it was well worth it! We started with a round of appetizers, including takoyaki, soft shell crab, krab meat rangoons, edamame, and vegetable tempura. Each one came out hot, fresh, and full of flavor. The takoyaki was crispy on the outside with a gooey, savory center, and the soft shell crab had a perfect crunch without being greasy. For the main course, we shared a few dishes: the beef bento box, a couple of sushi rolls, and a bowl of ramen. The beef in the bento box was tender and well-seasoned, and the sushi rolls were fresh and beautifully presented. The ramen was a hit too--rich broth, chewy noodles, and flavorful toppings that made it comforting and satisfying. My aunt and I stopped here for dinner one night after my daughter's dance class and this was a great quick-bite. I wouldn't put this in my top sushi spots, but the food wasn't terrible or anything. The volcano roll wasn't exactly what I expected, the crab mix on top was a little strange compared to all the volcano rolls I've had at other restaurants. The service was great though, our server was very friendly and my aunt had a million and one questions (this is typical lol) and he was very patient and kind throughout. I didn't feel like he was super knowledgeable about the menu, he had to step over to the sushi bar and get the answers for us pretty frequently, but I think he might've been a newer employee. Regardless, everyone was very friendly and attentive. The restaurant itself is a small space, it wasn't very noisy or crowded when we went so that was nice. Our server did mention that the pictures we were looking at on the menu weren't the restaurants pictures, so some of what we were seeing on the menu and asking about came off as a little misleading - again, I think he was newer so I'm not sure about the accuracy of this statement, but that did throw us for a loop lol I wouldn't mind stopping through here again, if we're in the area and hungry - but I also wouldn't go out of my way to come back. We visited Origami Sushi on a Friday evening around 5:15 during the restaurants nightly happy hour. We got on of the last tables in the small restaurant. We were seated quickly and our server came over quickly to get our drink order and give us menus. We spent some time checking out the menu because they have a lengthy list of specialty sushi rolls and so many of them are on the happy hour menu. Most of the specialty rolls on the happy hour menu cost around $11. We ended up ordered the seaweed salad and three specialty rolls. The seaweed salad come out quickly and the portion was generous. It was also a good standard seaweed salad. We did wait a while for the sushi rolls. I was excited to try them when they finally arrived but unfortunately none of them were great or flavorful. I'm not confident they used the fish described on the menu but I I'm not certain. If you just want sushi and quantity this place will die just fine. Definitely not the best sushi in town. read more

Edamame was good but it came with a heap of salt in the middle, we used the discard bowl to shake it up. Miso soup was good in flavor but barely had any seaweed. Disclaimer: this is a hibachi review ONLY. I hate leaving bad reviews, but this was needed. We ordered one chicken hibachi dinner and one steak hibachi dinner. The chicken was dry and tough (like it was leftover and then cooked in a microwave), and the steak was chewy and overcooked. The fried rice had no flavor, and the veggies all tasted the same, which was not good. The service was ok. We were seated promptly, and the server refilled our drinks in a timely manner. I honestly felt bad for the server. My food was so bad, I think he was embarrassed, even though I know he didn't prepare my food. The location is less than ideal... there was a homeless man and woman right outside the building fighting for some reason, but that has nothing to do with the restaurant. After giving birth to my niece at St Josephs hospital my sister's first meal request was sushi. Being the good little sister that I am, I was on the hunt for sushi options in the area. A few internet searches later, I arrived at Origami Sushi. I was greeted by a staff member as soon as I entered the restaurant. Given that this was my first time dining at the restaurant I decided to take a few minutes to scan the menu. After asking the staff member a few questions I was ready to make my selections. I went with 2 orders of crab rangoon, 2 bagel rolls, 1 crazy horse roll, 1 arizona roll, and 2 spicy mayo rolls. The total was exactly $40.64. The staff prepared and had my order ready to go in no time. Final Verdict: The rolls were pretty bland, not one tasted fresh. In fact, the rolls were reminiscent of the sushi that is sold at Publix. In other words, it was sushi but not restaurant quality sushi. After 9 long sushi-less months my sister ate a few rolls and left the rest. Nonetheless, she was appreciative for the effort. read more

I have become an UberEats regular with this sushi spot! Though I haven't eaten there in person, probably once a week I order the miso soup with a Christmas roll to be delivered to the law office i work at. I opt for no roe and no seaweed salad on top just because I hate those textures, and the roll is still incredibly delicious with the eel, salmon, and avocado. The breadcrumbs could be toasted a touch more sometimes for a texture contrasting crunch, but the roll is STUFFED full & a great size for the later lunch I take around 2. The miso soup has been hit or miss in terms of seaweed/tofu ratio. Sometimes it's great, sometimes it's mostly seaweed. But the flavor profile of the broth is great! I also always get an extra side of eel sauce. The honey notes aren't as strong with this eel sauce, and it almost has the underlying bite that soy sauce has. It pairs great with the Christmas roll! I have a shellfish allergy that also seems to be easily accommodated at this location. Each time I just put it in the delivery notes, and I have never had an order canceled by the restaurant nor have I had an allergic reaction, so they're on top of things like that too! read more

I have mixed feelings about this place. I ordered take out twice from here during my stay in Tampa. For the first order, I had the Lobster roll and a salmon roll. Thank gosh I got the Salmon roll. I love Salmon rolls and this did not disappoint. The fish was good, the rice was good and the simple roll was just what I was looking for. It was the Lobster roll that was hugely disappointing. First off it was expensive for the quality. The Lobster was okay, it was a tad over cooked in my opinion. It probably was intended to be cold because of it being in sushi but it was not good. I would say it was a waste of a Lobster. On top of that, the imitation crab was way too much and honestly did not taste good. I would not recommend ordering this roll. I only had a few bites and could not finish it. I forced myself to eat the Lobster part so it was not a waste. On the second order, I got the Muscles, Salmon roll (again), a Spicy Salmon roll and Udon stir-fry. This order was much better. I am a fan of baked muscles and tend to order them whenever I see them on the menu. The muscles did not disappoint. My favorites still would be the Salmon roll and the Spicy Salmon roll. I would go back to eat there if I was in the mood for sushi again. Maybe it is just a place for the simpler rolls? As for the Udon, it was not the best but will satisfy the noodle craving and what you would expect from an average Japanese food place. read more

Walking in, the manager was so kind and immediately helped us out. He answered all of our questions and was overall very knowledgeable about the food. It's a small and quiet place but the ambiance is still cozy. The food was completely unexpected. This place doesn't look like much on the outside but, the trope held true: The scarier it is on the outside, the better the food is. I was MOST impressed with the quality of the vegetable. It is so rare to get good avocado in a restaurant setting these days and yet somehow this place hit the nail on the head. We waddled out full and satisfied. Like, rudely, no way do we make mistakes. Well, here's the receipts. Yuzu sauce is a dark thin sauce...not a hint of yellow or orange anywhere. I received spicy mayo Don't argue with me. You sent the wrong order. Grow up and apologize for getting it wrong AGAIN. This is gross. I wouldn't keep ordering it a few times a week if this is what came every single time! First off, the workers at this restaurant deserve a medal for how well they handle the entire place. They did do good and were timely and checking in and nice. I can't say enough nice things about the workers. The food was so good as well. I know, sushi place, they are all the same but this restaurant tastes fresh, it's well put together, for a simple menu the execute it perfectly and put themselves several steps above everyone else. You walk in and it's what you expect it to be but it's done in such a tasteful way. Ordered yellowtail, scallops, tuna, salmon roe, spring rolls, miso soup, and seaweed salad. Every single fish item was ROTTEN and a health hazard. I had to throw away $70 worth of food and now I don't have lunch. Yellowtail had a nasty brown tint to it and just looked old and rotten. Tuna was literally separating everywhere, dry, and rotten. Scallops were all 3 different colors and slimy. Miso soup had ONE pea sized piece of tofu in it and 2 pieces of seaweed. I didn't even open the seaweed salad because at this point, I don't trust ANYTHING from this establishment. This place is a literal joke. Good sushi and decent hibachi. For nine months I am unable to eat raw fish. For me, this is probably the closest to food hell I will get. In case the number nine months doesn't ring a bell, it's because I'm pregnant. Being the neurotic, research addicted individual that I am, I am taking all food precautions to heart and forgoing all raw fish, rare meats, deli meats, soft cheeses, etc. My saving grace was remembering that cooked sushi rolls exist. Yes, in the past I have turned up my nose to the idea of eating cooked sushi rolls because sushi was all about the raw fish for me, but when you're trying not to kill a growing child inside of you, you do what you gotta do. Cooked rolls it is. I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to find two cooked rolls that I'd want to take advantage of the lunch special. Not an issue, they had a couple tempura rolls, one roll with grilled salmon (which was delicious), and a bbq eel roll. We started the meal with edamame. It was ok, but a little overcooked. My husband didn't like it. He got hibachi and says he'd give it 2 1/2 stars (insert eye roll here). When I told him three stars is average and he said it was ok he said he has a tougher rating system. This is why he doesn't write his own reviews and I normally don't take what he says into consideration either. He said he would probably come back, which is not indicative of a 2 1/2 star place. When we got here at about 12:30 p.m. almost all the tables were taken. It isn't a big place, but if there weren't any tables we could have sat at the sushi bar. I saw that they have a lot of creative special rolls. I would be interested to come back and try some of them. Overall I think this is a good place to get your lunch sushi fix. read more
