They have a good menu with more than just your standard curries and stir fry options. We came here on the quest for the best Khao Soi in San Diego and unfortunately we were a little let down. They nailed the broth base (just the perfect combination of sweet and salty) but the ingredients in the dish just weren't there. Not enough pickled mustard greens, cilantro, red onions or crunchy noodles. The sour pickled mustard greens in contrast with the sweetness of the curry and pungent aromas of raw onion and cilantro really make the traditional dish a complex flavor masterpiece. So although the broth base was on point, it still felt lacking. This is like when you have a salad that is largely lettuce despite having a good dressing or a burrito that is mainly rice despite having a bangin piece of carne asada in the middle. The extras MAKE the meal. The green curry noodles were great as a coconut soup - but again - lacking in quantity with the advertised toppings. Overall the meal was good, but each dish needs more to make this a special option for us. I would come back to some of the more interesting menu options like the Pla Pad Cha, Pad Phet, or Khao Mun Gai. @veganicthaicafe still reigns supreme for Khao Soi. read more

Another Thai restaurant that gives you enough food for three for the price of ones! I found this place after searching through Reddit trying to find the best Thai food in San Diego. This was the restaurant most people were recommending. This has been the BEST Thai food I've tried so far, and thats just based off my one order from UberEats. I was BEYOND impressed. I got the green curry with crispy pork belly, tom kha, and egg rolls. Food arrived HOT. Packaging was perfect to make sure it traveled safely, and the portions were impressive. I was bummed the curry didn't come with rice, but after tasting it, I did not want or need rice. I was basically chugging it directly from the bowl. I have never tried a curry so delicious. I nearly moaned when I tasted it. Fantastic seasoning, just the right amount of heat, and the pork belly was cooked to perfection. Excellent balance of crispy skin and soft fat. Egg rolls (I think they're actually vegan??) were delicious. Crispy on the outside, soft but not soggy on the inside. The little sauce it came with was heavenly. When I first tasted the tom kha, it seemed unusually bland. Then I realized that it had settled a bit and I just needed to mix it. BAM! FLAVOR! Best tom kha ever. Portions were so big I actually had to save the rest for later, then I had it for dinner again the next day. It was still just as delicious, even cold and old. I could eat those two dishes every day for the rest of my life and die happy. I am so happy I found another restaurant that can provide a perfect order, even from a delivery app. That is both rare and impressive. I will definitely be dining in next chance I get. this place is so good omg. the food is genuinely so delicious, one of the best Thai places in the area in my opinion. tried khao soi for the first time here, and absolutely loved it. the broth was so rich, and the chicken drumsticks were so tender. my friend got the khao soi vegetarian, and they were super accommodating for her food needs! i also tried the pad see ew which was so good and fresh, would definitely recommend. my friend also got the pad kee mao and loved it! their portions are huge so we all ended up having leftovers to eat for lunch the next day. the place itself is pretty small and casual, and there's a spot to order up front. the staff were also super sweet too and answered all our questions. i would definitely recommend if ur craving Thai! read more

I have been looking for a good Thai spot in San Diego for a while. Let me tell you.. it's been tough but i think I found it. I first popped by this place because my roommate used to work at the hair salon next door. After many failed attempts at other Thai restaurants, I didn't go in with high hopes. Damn, did they prove me wrong though. I've tried multiple items on their menu and only one disappointed. The Pad Thai was far too sweet for my liking. Whatever though. That's not why I go here. I go here for the Somtom Thai, Pork Boat Noodle Soup and the Morning Glory with pork belly. The Somtum is so light and citrusy. The papaya is fresh and comes with a damn good kick if you want it to. I always get the level 7 spice and it makes me sweat but I love it. I love the Somtum here because you can tell they use fresh limes compared to other places that use the concentrate. It makes all the difference. I also feel like they cut the papaya in the traditional way and not shredded but I could be wrong. Who knows. It's still good. The Pork Boat Noodle Soup is probably the most traditional boat noodle I've had in San Diego. That deep pork broth with the bold pork blood is phenomenal. It's hard to find places that make it the traditional way. I also aways get the Morning Glory with pork belly. Level 7 spice. There are not too many Thai restaurants that offer morning glory. So when I saw this I had to get it. They absolutely kill it here with it. The morning glory is fresh and crisp and saturated in an amazing oyster sauce. I have been SEARCHING for the best Khao Soi since I got back to San Diego. So of course, this review is going to be about Khao Soi. I ordered mine with beef and I was overall very satisfied with my dish. Let me explain it to you, Its a currie based soup, with both wet and crispy noodles. It is on his own playing field with Pho, and Ramen. I am a huge soup person. Its a new soup I fell in love with in a different state and I realized that only some thai restaurants make it. I would say that my only negative critique for this dish here is the red onion. I love red onion, but not so much with this dish. After checking in here I received a free thai tea! That was exciting, I also ordered the calamari with my dish & It is not similar to traditional calamari dishes I am used to. I prefer the tentacles and rings, instead of a flat, scored version. Still had great flavor. My sister and her wife ordered the panang curry (vegan friendly) and the drunken noodles (still vegan friendly). Both very delicious, they loved it. I love green papaya salad and they nailed the balance on sweet salty spicy sour in all of these dishes. While I prefer pork Larb, I cannot complain about this with chicken. All of it was delicious and I really enjoyed it. Lots of leftovers because the portions are huge. My favorite Thai restaurant, period. Soi 30th is so good! I love their green curry - it's slightly thicker than other curries I've had and had an amazing flavor. I also love their pad thai. I don't normally love pad thais, but this one has this thick sticky texture with a rich tamarind sauce. If you're looking for an appetizer, I definitely recommend the calamari or papaya salad. Excellent take out from here! We got the khao soi which was quite good but I think would taste the best fresh here. We got the 2 level spice which was very spicy for us so order accordingly. They also separated the noodles and crunchy noodles which was nice but the entire thing I think is meant to be eaten when assembled fresh. The pad kee mao was simply incredibly. If you have the time would recommend getting the curry from banh Thai and the noodles from here. The service for pickup was friendly and quick. The eggs didn't have much white, which were lacy from being deep fried. The yolks were runny. I live in the Bay Area now, but I return to my old neighborhood every year or so to visit old friends. I love Thai food but have given up finding any that meets my standards. On the Peninsula or in SF. Yes, I realize that is surprising. Maybe it exists in some very high-end spots. That's not in my budget. Soi 30th has restored my faith in finding a much more than perfunctory Tom ka, for example. Instead, the flavors were remarkably complex and the broth and vegetables a perfect blending. Parking: very challenging. Plan ahead if meeting friends - you'll likely have to park a few blocks away. What we ordered for takeout: Khao soi - typically this comes with chicken, but they were sold out, so we opted for beef. The beef was really good. Some pieces were truly fall off the bone tender, but others were a bit rubbery. The noodles were pretty good too but a bit clumpy. The soup was thick and creamy but hard to have much of. The first few bites are wonderful, but soon it becomes cloyingly sweet. Penang curry with roasted pork - the curry was really similar to the khao soi broth, but it included some veggies. My husband said the roast pork was not good. It was dry and coarse. Pad see ew with mock duck - this is really flavorful. Again, towards the end we started to feel sick from how sweet it was. I also found an ant in the noodles :( Overall, we would come back but probably skip the curries and stick with the noodle dishes. read more

I normally if 5 stars for Thai restaurant unless I found something not very authentic about the food. The menu has lots of Thai street food (what we call fast-food in Thailand). They are actually comfort food you can easily find on the street vendors in Thailand. I ordered Green curry noodle and I found that too sweet which is not typical for Thai curry. My friend ordered Khaw soi and it was also sweet. Nonetheless, Khaw Moo Krob looks great but the taste is on the sweet side as well. I really like the chicken wings but the price is more than other Thai restaurants. The waiter was very friendly. The restaurant has a Thai street food restaurant. They promise short wait times on the food apps, and then make you wait 10 to 30 minutes when you show up with lame excuses. We tried this Thai place in North Park lately and ordered takeout. I can handle spicy foods (most of the time) but this last meal I ordered was ordered as spicy because most places give me some weak level of spice. Please be aware that the spices they have are. It for the faint of heart....I asked for spicy and I was feeling it all through the meal. Didn't take away from the fact that it was a tasty order of Thai Basil Noodles but the spices were a little intense. I've since ordered again and asked for Medium so it's not nearly as bad.
