Part of the NIGIRI COMBO. Does that look edible to you?

Portions are great here, but at least three pieces of my nigiri are old and dry. And it would be great if they can find some music that isn't so loud and hard core. It was difficult to even hear my friend.

Wow! Came here on a whim, really positive experience. Garlic edamame was so fresh and flavorful, the cooked it on the spot and you could smell it! So delicious. I had the mango dragon cucumber wrapped- the sweet mango sauce was delicious, the whole roll was delicious My husband had the spicy amigo roll and he loved it. He say the ingredients were tremendous and fresh. He truly enjoyed it. My daughter had the shrimp crunch, she say it was flavorful and eel sauce and the crunch tied it together. Overall delicious. Service was friendly, restaurant is brand knew and clean. Definitely recommend!!

Top to bottom I ordered Salmon, Tune and Blue Fin Tuna. Excellent!

I am from 100 miles away to the north. was visiting and decied to try DRAGON SUSHI. Excellent quality and they do not skimp as I ordered the blue fin tune nigiri. They cut the meats thick and fresh. I also ordered the Salmon and Eel. I stringly recommended this place!

The owners of Brothers Mexican Restaurant in Normal Heights have opened Dragon Sushi in the next door suite that used to house an ice cream shop/juice bar. Seating was limited to about two dozen customers. The two-page menu was pretty typical sushi fare with classic rolls, hand rolls, special/specialty rolls, bento boxes, bowls, nigiri, and sashimi as the main categories. A monthly special was offered which on this occasion was a 16-piece roll combo for $20. It was made up of four different types of rolls. There were ten specialty rolls that were priced between $16 and $18 apiece. My two choices were the Angry Roll and Goodnight Roll which were cut into eight pieces. The first was made up of salmon, eel, gobo (burdock root), cucumber, and avocado topped with red snapper, jalapeno, onion, and ponzu sauce. The second consisted of bluefin tuna, gobo, cucumber, and green onion topped with escolar, avocado, sriracha, house alba sauce, onion, and cilantro. My first impression of these two rolls was that a lot of cilantro covered the products to the point it was difficult to distinguish the cut pieces. The Goodnight Roll was a little better because of the zing from the sriracha. I can't really say the fishes were top quality, but they tasted fresh. If you live in this neighborhood and are seeking a quick sushi fix, then Dragon Sushi should fulfill that desire.

Positive experience each time. We live in the neighborhood and love that Dragon Sushi opens semi-late, and is rarely crowded, especially for a sushi restaurant. Like others have been saying, it is inexpensive, and does the job. Service is friendly and attentive. I highly recommend: - kama (fish collar, cooked) usually $18-22+ at other Japanese restaurants, here it's $12, and the portion is great. Fish is tender and flaky. - half seaweed half cucumber salad (seasoned to perfection, a light and refreshing appetizer). - baked mussels (dressed with tobiko, baked with sriracha mayo). - Rolls: Channel roll, Lemon Drop, Wilson Ave roll. They seem to lean heavily towards a crunchy roll base (shrimp tempura and krab on the inside) then the toppings are where the rolls get individualized. - Yellowtail is nice and fresh here. - Spicy tuna is on the spicier side. I ordered a poke bowl once and wasn't impressed. It wasn't that the salmon wasn't fresh, that part was fine. I just felt that the bowl was kind of boring. And I love sushi rice but there was too much rice and not enough other toppings.

Came by for my lunch and decided to try this mango roll it was very delicious and filling. The sauces are made from scratch and they were very friendly. Cant wait to bring my wife to enjoy this lovely spot together!

Best vegetarian(ish) sushi roll I've ever had. Simple but so delicious: tofu, avocado, cucumber roll topped with spicy mayo and eel sauce. I love this place I go here multiple times a week and they also have a buy 2 get 1 free happy hour. I love love LOVE this place and the owners and employees are so nice and they always remember my name.

Solid sushi joint. Lots of different rolls at a reasonable price point. They are fairly new (ie past 6 months). I got 4 pieces of 4 different rolls for $20 which was a good way to try different things. The fish was reasonably fresh

This is not an authentic sushi restaurant. It seems as those they just learned to make sushi and decided to open a restaurant.. the vibe isnt right and neither is the sushi. Very mushy and the ratios were off on what was put inside. I asked if there was fired shrimp in my roll and was told no all for me to bite into fried shrimp. Unacceptable. Wasn't offered help, discount or any care.

Inside the restaurant. Very casual unassuming place, quiet, very nice wait staff, and GREAT quality fish.

Wow! I was not expecting much of this place and I'm thrilled how wrong I was! It was completely empty when we walked by but we decided to try it anyway, turns out this place is just 7 weeks new! The prices are great, the service is extremely nice and I could not believe how GREAT the fish is!! Like shocked because of the prices. I would love to keep this place my own little secret but san diego deserves to know about it, so good! I will be back!

He woke up as we were leaving. by the time we figured out what was really upsetting him (he wanted to stay there and eat and wanted the table we were on), we have gotten out of our table and obviously the table was then cleaned for the next guests. So basically my lil one cried, took him to the bathroom bec unfortunately we dont get everything we want just bec we cry. So we went into the bathroom for him to cry his feelings out and be ready to get out. Was he loud? Absolutely. Was i embarrassed? Yes. But it was a lesson he needed to learn and i didnt want my discomfort to hinder that. (Mind you the bathroom was in the middle of the stairs lol midway the lower and the upper floor). So was i ashamed to get out? Yes. But the staff, so empathetic. So nice about it. Told me i didnt need to apologize and that they get it. And that made me feel better as a mama who walked out of there carrying a 5 year old out their door. No judgy stares. Just smiles and understanding eyes. Booking was easy through their website. When we arrived around 6:30, and there were still a handful of open tables so reservations may not always be necessary, but it's probably still a good idea. Our server was phenomenal and really elevated the experience. She gave great recommendations and even let us sample both the Cabernet and Merlot when we couldn't decide on a bottle of wine. We ordered a variety of dishes: * Spicy Edamame: very flavorful, but definitely on the spicy side so be warned if you're sensitive to heat. * Fire Fire Roll: light and fresh fish, but the seared salmon flavor didn't really stand out. * Orange Roll: also light and fresh, but I didn't really pick up the citrus/lemon zest element. A bit underwhelming compared to expectations. * Salmon Belly Nigiri: very fresh and a favorite at the table. * Crab Roll Special: generous portion of fresh crab. * Yuzu Cheesecake: served with three spoons to share. It tasted like a classic cheesecake, pleasant, but I didn't really get a distinct yuzu flavor. The space is cute and conveniently located in a shopping center with plenty of parking. Overall, the atmosphere is laid-back and comfortable. While the rolls themselves are fairly simple and not especially standout, everything tasted fresh and the service was excellent, which made the experience enjoyable.

There was no wait here but parking was a nightmare and there is almost no street parking right around the restaurant which is near the trolley tracks. I recalled coming here for a light dinner with my husband many years ago and thinking it was good, but expensive. I asked if they had Japanese soda for my daughter because it was not on the menu, and they said no, but after we came back from the bathroom the host had found one for us. They gave us chopstick helpers and were very nice. We ordered braised pork belly as an app and wagyu nigiri, albacore, hamachi, salmon belly, 2 salmons, and unagi. I think that was all. They nicely split the order so half had no wasabi for the kid. They were very considerate and I appreciated it. The food however took a while to come out. The braised pork belly was ok, but the fat had not rendered as well as at some other places so we ate around it. The flavor was good though. The hamachi was probably the best item-tender and tasty. The albacore was standard and a generous piece, but the salmon was a bit tough and my kid who usually inhales salmon tasted and then left the salmon. The wagyu had good flavor but was surprisingly chewy. For $26 I would expect it to melt in your mouth but it was not easy to bite through. The eel was very tender but had a weird taste, and was disappointing. I found myself chewing on a scale from maybe the salmon and was overall underwhelmed by the food. The bill for a soda and the sushi came to almost $150 after tax and tip for me and a 6-year old. Usually my husband and I and my kid go to places with better quality and pay the same price for the three of us. Will not be back.

We ordered the miso soup, spicy edamame, Den Miso pork belly skewers, tamarindo tuna ceviche, seabass serrano, crispy karikari tuna, and mochi ice cream for dessert. To drink, we had the Taiyo Margarita and the Clouds of Matcha cocktail. The spicy edamame was probably the only dish that fell a little short for us. It wasn't bad by any means, but we were hoping for more flavor. The absolute standout was the Den Miso pork belly skewers. My husband and I both took our first bite at the same time, looked at each other, and immediately said, "Oh!" We were genuinely surprised by how juicy, tender, and flavorful they were. There were only two skewers, but they packed so much flavor that we instantly wanted to order another plate. The tamarindo tuna ceviche was fresh, light, and refreshing. The taro chips added a nice crunch without overpowering the dish. The seabass serrano was enjoyable, though it wasn't a stand out for us. The crispy karikari tuna (spicy tuna over crispy rice) is one of my go-to orders whenever I visit a sushi restaurant, and this version was up to par. The only component I wasn't crazy about was the long, thin slice of avocado on top--I personally could have done without it, though my husband actually liked it, so that's just a matter of preference. We finished the meal with mochi ice cream, which was the perfect sweet ending. Overall, we had a great dining experience. Between the rooftop ambiance, attentive service, and several delicious dishes - especially those unforgettable pork belly skewers - we'd definitely come back and would happily recommend it to anyone looking for a great dinner spot in the Gaslamp.

It's not overly sweet, which was perfect. -Service was very attentive which we liked and they also had some good recommendations for the food. -also saw the menu that they have a Monday through Thursday happy hour from 5:30 to 6:30 PM. Overall, a great place to just sit and grab some drinks. May need to come back for some of the sushi.
