This spot was just alright for me. I had the pad see ew (w/ beef), mock duck larb salad and Thai tea. The noodles for the pad see ew was not as soft and chewy as what I'm used to. The beef was on the dry side. Overall, the dish was not as exciting, considering it's my favorite Thai dish. The mock duck larb was good but extremely salty. Although it's called a salad, there was only one piece of lettuce and 2 cucumbers. Also, minor but a big deal for me: they don't have the red chili oil, aka satay here. It doesn't seem like they do spice levels here either, unlike other Thai spots so for someone who loves eating spicy food, it was a bit disappointing. I have yet to find a Thai place in San Diego that I'm completely in love with. A lot of them excel at certain dishes while fall short with others and it's no different here other than everything was just "pretty good". Not sure if anything stood out to a point where I'd come back for it. That's not necessarily a bad thing for a restaurant but considering there's so many Thai options in San Diego, it's a tough sell unless you're in the area or close by, then absolutely - it's a great place to get your Thai food fix. Been to Soi 30th 2 times. I dont think I have ever craved a very specific restaurant ever before. I find myself wanting more every single time I go. The food is actually one of favorite Thai restaurants in all of San Diego. I have tried the Pad See Ew, Pad Thai, Pad Kee Mow, Holy Spicy Basil, and the Panang Curry. All of the noodles we have ever ordered were delicious and perfect! But my favorite dish at Soi 30th is their Pad Thai. Everything you ever want in a Pad Thai is there, spicy, sweet, sour, tang. The noodles were cooked to perfection with peanuts and bean sprout give a nice crunch to break up the bites of amazingness. The panang curry was a little bit on the thin side, i enjoy more creamy Panang curry, but the flavors were there. If you want something spicy ask them for spicy and they bring the heat in the most amazing way. Please if you are in the mood for Thai Food, go to Soi 30th. Ok, I was originally born in Bangkok, Thailand. I moved to California 5 years ago. My opinion of a Thai Restuarant in the U.S. is generally skeptical. The "Experience the Authentic Thai Taste and Atmosphere" theme. I am pretty sure most of you might have experience that dark/cozy/old/woody thai restaurant somehow... Soi 30th is the FIRST restaurant that I can fully say that it is an "ABSOLUTE AUTHENTIC". First Let me explain the atmosphere, this restaurant is well decorated in bangkok modern theme which is what you would not expect a Thai Restaurant in America would be. This is what you would expect a Thai restaurant would look like in "Siam" area (center of Bangkok). The staff/servers are very friendly. The area is great and of course, very hipster vibe. Ok lets talk about food. "This is what downtown Bangkok food taste like. Period." I was born and raised in Bangkok for 19 years and the popular area i always go to is "siam" (search it up!). Siam consider the most modern/hipster/essential of Bangkok, Thailand. This restaurant absolutely claimed the essence of Siam. Amazing job. The food menu such as morning glory, boat noodle, larb-moo krob, and kao moo dang moo krob, are local food that is very popular in Bangkok. Not pad thai nor Pad se ew (due to over popularization). Not to mention, they would never sacrifice their taste to be americanized (talked to the owner). I can guarantee you that they will not disappoint you. If so, then this is what it is in Bangkok. OK, first of all, about the name: Although it vaguely sounds like it might be a vegetarian restaurant, Soi is not. Although Thai is almost always vegetarian-friendly, Soi is no different than the others in that regard. Of course, I am a meat-eater myself, so I'm not really sure why I wrote all of this. Moving on. As you will see from other reviews, Soi is pretty well liked. Add me to that list, with the caveat, however, that while very good, it was not particularly special or memorable... at least until I started to play kindergarten chemist with it. We ordered three items to go: the massaman, the yellow curry, and the pad see ew. To begin with, Soi is a tad bit pricey for such a spot, definitely charging a bit more than some full service Thai places in the area, although their portions are admittedly generous, and as a result, the three items actually created four large meals for us. The pad see ew was quite tasty, and contrasted nicely with the two curries we ordered. While we both fairly liked the massaman and the yellow curry, neither one really stood out from the other on its own. At first, we were slightly disappointed, as a friend of mine had raved about the yellow curry in particular. That was until I had the apparently brilliant (i.e., lucky) idea of mixing the two curries. Woah, that move sent them both from a 7 to a 9. We liked it so much, in fact, that we dumped the two together in one container for our leftovers, and ravaged the deliciousness the next day. Seriously, mix those two curries -- it's better than either one on its own. So all in all, Soi is a nice neighborhood Thai choice, but certainly not an all-time fav. Food was excellent, and felt profiled: I didn't like the way I was served by the cashier woman. Besides tipping her well I would like to share publicly my experience here: #1 From the 1st minute I walked in with my friend I could feel I was being profiled somehow by her, no words spoken, but the way I was treated at the restaurant was one the rudest ways that I never even experienced in any other country even in Thailand. Dunno by the fact I was with my friend, or if because something personal. #2 Regardless my compliments, whenever she brought the food to the table even after my "thank you" she even turned her back and speechless. Again I gave her a great tip. #3 In the end I got 2 containers that were available in the counter for customers to take out 2 of the dishes and she urged to my table and rudely got the containers out and replace with other ones with no explanation why she was doing that and I felt embarrassed between other people watching from other tables. Don't really know why she did that. Even when I questioned why she turned her back and nothing else. Conclusion: great food, delicious, but I left feeling I was somehow spotted or profiled for no apparent reason. I hope this isn't the norm with customers here, but I will keep coming for the good food you guys provide to us. P.S. for the owner: is this the norm when it comes to customer service? read more

When there's Thai food involved, you bet I'll be trying it out! After traveling through Bangkok and chiang mai, I have a true appreciation for authentic Thai cuisine. This place did not disappoint. We ordered: khao mhan gai (the sauce was amazing, a flavor bomb), beef pad kee mao (noodles were cooked perfectly, also another flavor explosion), somtom (bright, citrusy, spicy papaya salad), and a Thai iced tea. We thoroughly enjoyed every single item we ordered! The prices are perfect $10-12 per entree and you can find street parking for free! There's nothing pretentious about this restaurant and they serve delicious, authentic meals. Can't wait to come back and try all the other items on the menu including the khao soi! read more

DONT EAT HERE I was served RAW PORK I visited this restaurant July 22nd 2023 , with my wife and sister in law to enjoy some Thai food. The reviews were great so we decided to walk past several great restaurants to try this place for the first time. I ordered pineapple fried rice fried tofu and the spicy wontons WHICH WERE COMPLETELY RAW. We bit into this raw pork and then realized it . They didn't acknowledge their mistake and told us they don't do refunds only store credit, and offered to make us the same dish again. Gtfo. The mistake would've been tolerable if the staff took ownership. This place sucks go to underbelly or lefties don't waste your time ... even my shrimp was raw in the pineapple fried rice. I came in on a whim a few months ago and this is now my go to spot for thai food in North Park. I've had almost every rice and noodle dish on their menu and each one is excellent! Standouts for me are the roast pork and crab fried rice. I hate to say, I'm a bit disappointed with Soi 30th. This Thai restaurant has been on our to-visit list for some time now, and although we enjoyed our first bite, the dishes overall were way too salty and the portions were way too small for the price, especially considering this restaurant is not a full sit-down restaurant (you order first at the counter and they deliver food after you pay). We had the popular Khao Soi (noodle soup with thick curry broth) and Pad Kee Mao (Fried spicy thick noodles) along with the complimentary Thai Iced Tea when you check in with Yelp. The mock ducks were pretty good and the flavors were there, but the dishes were so salty we could not finish everything even though the portions were extremely small. My Khao Soi had only few bites of noodles and mock duck, and my husband's Pad Kee Mao also lacked much of the ingredients commonly found in this dish. They should be called appetizer, not main entree. The Thai Iced Tea was pretty good for a complimentary drink but too sweet for my taste. We ended up going up on the 30th to Sipz, and getting another meal. read more

Was hoping to branch out of our favorite thai places in SD (bahn thai, pad thai stand, mekong on wkdays, and thai pepper) and try out some of the more local joints to our home. We're disappointed by Soi. First, their listed prices are a bit misleading bc any additional protein costs more $$ whether tofu, chicken, egg..all of which are usually included in the listed price at other places we've been to. So, our pad thai with shrimp, pad see ee with tofu, and chinese broccoli with rice came out to $54 and change. Their noodle dishes were bland and just looked like greasy mush. Cute little restaurant with delicious Thai offerings that are not always offered. The Morning Glory with crispy pork belly and water spinach was BOMB. We came here for the second time this past weekend. The first time we came here, was during a drunken night at Bluefoot and we came right at closing. They were nice to let us order and quickly shovel the food in our mouth as they cleaned around us. I had the spicy wings which I looooved. They weren't too spicy, but the glaze was soo yummy. When we came this second time, we started with the crispy chicken wings, and I ordered the khao man gai while my husband ordered the chinese broccoli with ground chicken and a fried egg. We also checked in on yelp and got a free Thai tea. Crispy chicken wings: They were fried nice and crispy, and albeit kind of small, they were still very tasty. These are good for people who don't like spicy - but if you do, I would choose the spicy wings over this. Khao Man Gai: it's not fair to compare, but I first had khao man gai in Portland at Nong's... So of course, that's what I had to base it off of. The chicken was good, but a little dry. It didn't really taste like the rice was cooked in chicken broth, but I could be wrong. The broth was reaaaally good though, and the khao man gai sauce was DELICIOUS. I loved that it was a little spicy. I dipped my crispy chicken wings in it and honestly- that was such a better pair haha. Chinese broccoli w/ ground chicken: I only had one bite really, but it was soo good! It was super tasty, and my husband ordered it as a level 8 spice and it was perfect for me (he, on the other hand, could probably go up to 10). The fried egg was perfect too, not too overcooked. Definitely want to try the larb and the tom yum soup next time. And probably the khao soi since I hear so many good things about it. read more

Thai food in North Park - YES!! This is family owned and the staff is friendly and accommodating. Here's my food recommendations: - Crab fried rice - Khao Soi (it's rare to find this type of dish in SD) - Khao Mhan Gai (steamed chicken with flagrant rice) - Vegan Larb Mock Duck (sooo flavorful with spices and fresh herbs!) - Thai coffee Price for thai food here is average and anywhere you go. Portions are a good size, service is A+ and food is FRESH & AUTHENTIC! We can usually find an open table anytime of the day. They are not too crowded which is a good thing for us. Parking can be a pain because it's North Park. Overall, we enjoyed our meal. If we are ever in north park wanting some Thai food, this would our go to place! read more

This hipster Thai place is located on the southwestern part of north park and their art work/atmosphere is casual yet chic. I ordered the khao soi, while my boyfriend ordered the crab fried rice. The presentation for the khao soi was really grand and a very flavorful bowl! I liked the crab fried rice as well, but I wish there was a bit more flavor to the dish. Overall, we enjoyed our meals. Pretty good overall. I went here for lunch and got the pineapple fried rice which was a daily special for $14. The consistency of the rice was very moist and sticky. I didn't exactly care for how sticky it was but the taste was still good. There could have been a bit more chicken and cashews.
