Sol Agave took me out for three days. I don't even remember the last time I had food poisoning. It wasn't ER-level bad, but as a foodie who lives for flavor, it was devastating to have to live off of saltines and Gatorade for three. Whole. Days. Also, wow, San Clemente runs on a different clock. I don't know if it's just the beach or what, but service was so slow in that specific "I'm out of my tax bracket" kind of way. CHIPS WITH SALSA & FRIJOLES: 5/5. Generally not a frijoles person, but this one was good. BIRRIA TACOS: 5/5. Flavor was good, smoky. PORK BELLY: 3/5. Dry. Tortillas & sauces saved it. OCTOPUS: 1/5. This was definitely the culprit, as my partner and I shared every dish... except this one. I suspect it was the salad, since the octopus was fully cooked, and most food poisoning cases are from mishandled produce, which seems like a failure at a very basic level.

Every dish we ordered was well prepared and super flavorful. I was especially impressed with the grilled salmon. I would definitely order this dish again. Highly recommended.

This place is in a little plaza like area. It was quite lively with people. The waiters were nice and the place had TVs. The tvs were tuned to March Madness & baseball, so it was good times. We only came here for drinks. I love margaritas and saw the margarita flight. It was a little expensive ($26?) but I ordered it anyway. They do give you free chips, salsa, & bean dip. I was happy for that because I needed something to soak up all my margaritas! My favorite margarita was the Tamarindo. I thought the others were just ok. I would recommend this place if you're looking for a lively atmosphere.

Ambiance..cute place with indoor..outdoor feel and lots of cute lights Service..fast and friendly Food..amazing..they have a whole veggie menu and kids menu..no changing tables..I got the spicy mango margarita and got it extra spicy..and veggie salad and avocado tacos..it came three in a pack with rice and very fresh. The salad had warm veggies and good flavor. Loved the habanero salsa too. The butter cake was amazing too with ice cream and they do a happy bday treat.

Not only is the food amazing, but the atmosphere is fun and right on the main strip in SC! The last few times, our server was very kind. I actually feel confident in saying this is the best sea bass I've ever had! Chef Alex is a wizard! I also accidentally asked for a drink I thought was going to be different but boy was it GOOD!

Authentic and gourmet Mexican food. I've never had better. The steak was juicy, flavorful, of high quality and perfectly grilled. The Carnitas were tender and incredibly tasty. There was plenty of room around our table and the ambience was conducive for conversation. Out waiter was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable about the menu and food preparation. I had a very pleasant dining experience and look forward to returning.

Gotta love an impromptu meet up with friends on a Saturday night for prime time dinner time in DTSC! As always (and as it should be) Avenida Del Mar was hopping!!! Love seeing downtown come alive with contagious happy vibes from locals (and visitors) with the same intentions...a good time!!! After pregaming with a few cocktails and wine at home, we Uber'd downtown. The gang decided to just do walk ups into a few restos to see if we could get lucky with a table for our party of 6 sans reservations. LOL. Third time's a charm because we we ended up here at Sol Agave, and I'm so glad we did! This was my first time at this location (have been to the one in SJC many moons ago). We were welcomed by super friendly hosts (always plus points for me!) and seated quickly inside! Our sweet server, Emma, took great care of us! She took our food and drink orders and right away and before we knew it, the chips and salsa were already on the table! First things first... - their Guacamole Sampler is a MUST (wow, just wow!!!) - Mango Margaritas (w/ Tajin please) really hit the spot! The fresh slice of mango in there was crunchy and sweet, yum! My toxic trait when eating Mexican food is always getting full from the chips/salsa/guac, so my husband and I decided to share their Famous Carnitas (w/ corn tortilla), and their Taquitos Al Gusto (w/ short ribs), which were the perfect choices for us! The DJs set the mood and got the fun fiesta started with great music!!! I like to think I burned some calories with each bite by dancing in my seat!! LOL. CHEERS and happy eating till next time...

Sol agave is another delicious Mexican restaurant. It's not fancy, but the food is tasty. The service is good and the people are friendly. The ambiance is warm and inviting.

My husband called the restaurant a few days prior and made a reservation for a party of 7. There is street parking available and we ended up parking a block away on a Sunday night. It didn't seem too busy but I can see it getting crowded during peak times. We were seated within 5 minutes of checking in. The inside restaurant was smaller than what I was expecting but it was lively. The staff and service were very friendly and they made sure we were taken care of the entire night. Bathrooms are available outside on the side of the restaurant but you will have to ask for their code. The food was amazing! 5/5 for the chile Colorado as the meat was tender in a flavorful sauce. I love the fresh tortilla chips and bean dip that was complimentary with the meal. The drinks were also very good and I shared a margarita flight with my husband. We both really loved the tamarindo margarita the best so we ordered a full sized one later on. Really loved our experience here and will have to come back or try one of their other locations!

I'm in LOVE! We came here during Memorial Day weekend, during prime time dinner hours and we got seated right away. I love that there's indoor and outdoor seating options, as well as bar seating. The ambiance is classy with casual, somewhat fancy vibes and there's TV for entertainment. It caters to a variety of crowds - groups, family, dates, GNO. I love that the menu isn't overwhelming and it offers a lot of classic Mexican food options. Loved the light and crispy chips in the complimentary chips and salsa and beans that they offered. Our entrees, tacos de hongo and carnitas, were amazing! The meats were so tender and filled with flavor! The beans and rice paired perfectly with it and were also equally delish! Parker was great - totally hospitable, gave plenty of attention, was efficient and just had an overall positive energy and vibes. Please note that this is in the corner of one of the main streets in San Clemente - there's parking but patience may be required during busy hours. Also, restrooms are available but are located outside of the restaurant. I would definitely recommend and visit again!!!!

Always really good high quality food. The carnitas are very tasty and we always love the dual rellenos. Highly recommend this place.

    Can I bring my dog?

No they don't allow dogs. They might turn a blind eye to yr dog but there's no guarantee of this. They don't make exceptions for service animals.

Regular menu is available every day at 11am

Can you make reservations online for San Clemente, I don't see an option?

First, the obvious: South of Nick's does upscale Mexican food extremely well. Great flavors, great atmosphere, and plenty of menu choices that can completely destroy any good intentions you had when you walked in. BUT--the Filet & Chopped Salad deserves some attention. This thing was awesome. The filet was cooked perfectly, the salad was incredibly flavorful, and somehow I finished dinner feeling like a million bucks instead of needing to be transported to my car on a furniture dolly. The key was showing a little restraint with the chips and salsa--which, at South of Nick's, requires considerable discipline. Normally after a great Mexican dinner, I'm loosening the belt and questioning several decisions I made over the previous 90 minutes. Not this time. Great steak, great salad, tons of flavor, and I walked out feeling surprisingly light. Who knew you could go out for Mexican food, eat an amazing meal, and leave feeling **healthier than when you arrived?** I'm as confused as anyone.

You know when you're starving after being out all day and almost anything sounds good? This wasn't one of those situations where the food just tasted good because we were hungry. Everything that came to the table was legitimately impressive. We started with the chips and salsa, and immediately knew we were in for a good meal. The chips were fresh and crispy, and the different salsas each had their own flavor instead of just tasting like different levels of heat. The creamy green one was especially good. We kept going back to it. The Birria Quesadilla was ridiculous. The tortilla had that perfect golden crisp on the outside, plenty of melted cheese, and the birria inside was tender, juicy, and actually flavorful. Dip it into the consommé and it takes it to another level. Add a little guacamole and pico and you get the perfect combination of crispy, cheesy, rich, fresh, and savory all in one bite. We also had the Carne Asada and this is where I really have a hard time describing how good the food was. The texture, preparation, and flavor of the meat were all on point. It had a beautiful char on the outside while still being tender and juicy inside. Nothing tasted overly seasoned or covered up. You could actually taste the quality and preparation of the meat. Even the rice, beans, pico, guacamole, and bacon wrapped jalapeño on the plate felt like they belonged there instead of being random sides thrown on to fill the plate. The portions were generous too. This is the kind of Mexican food where you can tell someone actually cares about how each component is prepared. There are different textures throughout the meal, crispy tortillas, tender meat, creamy guacamole, fresh pico, rich beans, and everything works together. The restaurant itself has a great San Clemente feel. It's lively and casual, but still nice enough that you could come here for more than just a quick meal. We came in after a soccer tournament and felt completely comfortable, but I could just as easily see coming back for brunch, dinner, or drinks. And after looking through the menu, there are already several things I want to come back and try. The menu goes way beyond the typical tacos, burritos, and enchiladas. Filet mignon tacos, short rib, blackened shrimp, seafood, birria noodles, bowls, burgers, brunch, there is A LOT happening here. What impressed me most was how well the food was actually executed. Sometimes restaurants with huge menus do a little bit of everything but nothing particularly well. That wasn't our experience at Asada. We came in tired and hungry after a soccer tournament and left talking about the food. Asada Cantina + Kitchen is absolutely going on our San Clemente list. The texture, preparation, and taste of the food are honestly hard to put into words. You just need to try it.
