This restaurant is located right at the Marriott resort's private beach. Sunset view, variety fish options on the menu, very polite restaurant staff, tropical drinks are all one can wish for at the island. My yellow tail while fish was fresh and grilled and was very tasty. Grouper with jasmin rice was converted into vegetarian option per our request and the dish was delicious. We definitely be dining again here during this one week vacation at the Playa Largo resort. I am looking forward to try their octopus. read more

We were a party of 7 and had mixed reviews. Having reservations we were seated quickly. Half had a view of the dining room and the other the harsh lights of the kitchen. Service was a bit off. When you see your drinks up and it takes a manager to bring them it's not good. Most of the food was decent but not stellar. Great service, live music and a beautiful view! Only thing the food was not my favorite here in Largo. It was a little spicy but over all not bad. I had the paella which was great but the chowder i had as an app was not. My husband had the fried yellow tail snapper and that was delish! Came here for Mother's Day.. Service was absolutely terrible!!! Never got our drinks, server only stopped at our table 1 time.. asked for the manager and was ignored, and another supervisor told me he can't help me.. they automatically charge you a 20% gratuity for no service at all.. the view is good, but that doesn't excuse very very very terrible customer service! Stopped in here for lunch on our way out of the Keys. Restaurant located inside a large beach resort. The setting is beautiful: open air to water views. Food was fresh and yummy. Everyone else was raving about the fish tacos. I enjoyed the Sol Salad with added grilled chicken. THIS PLACE IS PURE MAGIC. From the second you drive up to the moments spent walking to the restaurant location, everything is breathtakingly beautiful and lush. The restaurant itself is an outdoor restaurant with adorable nautical decor including retired boat buoys and reclaimed wood. We opted to get a drink at the bar prior to sitting down. The bar itself is very small, maybe hosting six chairs maximum, however the staff is incredibly accommodating and delivers orders in a speedy manner. Once seated, our server tended to our every need, most importantly refilling our ice cold water on that hot summer evening. I decided to order the coconut curry black grouper which was hands down without-a-doubt the best curry I have ever had. The fish was fresh, meaty and served in a more than expected portion. They had an amazing live band playing for the entirety of the evening and into dessert. We ordered the key lime pie (because while in ROME) and they delivered a complimentary fried cheesecake to my mother-in-law for her birthday! Both were amazing! read more

I was a guest at Playa largo, and even though we loved the hotel, the food is extremely overpriced. This restaurant is veryyy expensive, especially for the quality. We ordered the paella and the rice was undercooked, stiff. The seafood was good but still not worth the money. Also ordered the octopus to start and the arugula and greens wasn't so good. I would recommend getting in your car and driving somewhere rather than eating here. The food was not bad, but it wasn't good enough to cost resort prices. The best meal at our table was the whole fish, cooked to order, and that also was the most expensive, with market price being around $34. Lastly the service during our meal varied greatly, and while it's pretty clear that everyone is trying their best to be helpful, sometimes it's just a bit confusing. Dinner was super delayed. Took over an hour to get our dinner from time ordered. We gave our concerns and disappointments to two employees , one who appeared to be in charge / manager, and she said she was going to tell the chef. No gesture was made to offset great delay. We had children and it would have been nice for them to have been empathetic to get at least their food without such a prolonged delay. It was disappointing to get no sense of action, urgency or effort from management's part to address situation. All seemed pretty aloof and nonchalant. Also, it was very hot. From what we could see, only two ceiling fans in whole restaurant ( restaurant is under roof and outdoors) Restaurant needs more fans. It was very hot and muggy. Would not recommend this restaurant. Really good place: premium location over viewing the bay "breathtaking". Super clean and very well maintained ( modern look yet Caribbean style). Menu is a little limited for us but we tried several dishes and all were expended, fresh fish, fresh shrimps, fresh fruits. Many plates comes with fruits and/or veggies. It is located at the end corner of a beautiful resort & spa full of mid- high class patrons and guests. Easy access to the water, recommended if you go take you swimsuit with you too. Ok, let me start by saying this place is gorgeous. Amazing views and ambience, friendly staff. It seems they are fairly new and I gave them the two stars because there's hope. Now, the drinks are fancy and colorful but who can drink a bunch of seeds? And why would there be seeds in a caipirinha? They were nice and didn't charged me for it when I returned it. The food... Well, I ordered a lobster roll, at 21$ I would expect the mothers of all lobster rolls, plus applewood smoked bacon on it? Yes please! Well... You can see the photo, lobster was over cooked, sandwich was dry and lettuce was dirty. Bacon didn't save the poor sandwich. Plus when I asked for mayo to save the poor thing, they were out. My husband's fish sandwich wasn't any better. I trust they'll improve, the place is beautiful and sooner they learned that if they are going to overcharge for a sandwich they should at least serve it with Real sweet potato fries and not some tater tots that probably come frozen in a bag and were... Under cooked. Come on Sol! You can do way better! It's a 400 a night resort... You need to do better :) read more

The view is amazing !! The service needs work. We ordered drinks, fish tacos and ahi poke tuna. It took quite a while to serve two not very complicated dishes and we got our drinks at the end of our meal. According to our server, the bartender waits on their customers at the bar and completes server drink orders when they feel like doing so. If that is the case, I suggest restaurant management review incentives to see if they have set up a system that inadvertently incents the bar staff to treat restaurant guests as an afterthought. This is my fourth time to Sol by the Sea at Playa Largo. Consistently, the service has been poor. In the beginning, I was told that it was due to the resort being fairly new and had yet to sustain consistent servers. I was patient. Returned. This last time, we were asked to sit in the waiting area for our table. We sat and then realized that we could be at the bar getting our drinks, so we moved there. 1. Why didn't the hostess suggest this? Javier, the bartender - outstanding! Service, smiles, and full of suggestions when we weren't sure! 2. Go to the bar! We were finally seated and waited 15 minutes before anyone came. The short of it - server only came to our table 3 times. I had to ask for him FOUR times so I could get a refill of iced tea. After waiting 25 minutes, I got up and went to the bar. Javier refilled it for me. Our server did not return for another 15 minutes from that point. 3. Why would the server ignore his table? The last poor impression was an oversight on an order. Salad, $17. Please add grouper, $12. $29 salad, ok. They forgot the grouper, but the manager brought it out later. It was approximately 4 ounces, overcooked, rubbery. We asked Paulette if this was normal. She said yes, about 4 ounces for $12. We thanked her and she apologized. Later, Paulette came to the table and said she would not charge us for the grouper. Thank you Paulette. Overall, the service is consistently poor, view and drinks are outstanding, food is good. I don't think we will be back to eat, but maybe to watch the sunset. read more
