It's tough to find, but the search was worth it. I had heard of this spot from friends. So I tagged it and thought I would go some day when down Key Largo way. last weekend a few of us were down there and went out to dinner and I made a reservation at Sol by the Sea. We got out the Uber and I was a little surprised when we were at a nice hotel. We meandered through out the grounds looking for the place. at one point we found it, but it was a different restaurant. But after a few more minutes we found it, of course, right on the beach. We got our table, and then drinks, right as the sun was setting. It was honestly a very beautiful spot for a sunset; as good as I have seen in the keys. And I had it with friends, and darn good dragon fruit mojito! I'm not a big mojito guy, but everyone at the table agreed it was the best drink. We got some appetizers, the conch fritters were plenty good. For the entrée there was some upscale choices. We went with the slightly different, seafood mac and cheese. scrumptious. Throw in a caramel cheesecake and you have a near perfect sunset dinner. read more

We are here twice during our stay at the Playa Largo Resort. The staff was extremely friendly, and made our rainy stay so much better. We would have been lost without this restaurant being on property. It made it so much easier to just walk right to it during the huge storm we experienced. We came here on our first night for dinner after checking in. The sunset views alone made it all worth it! Our bartender while we waited for our table was awesome! He made the greatest drinks, to which I highly recommend the dragon fruit mojito! We tried a variety of menu items during both our visits from the spicy conch fritters (SO good), hummus, buffalo chicken sandwich, to the seafood mac-n-cheese, playa burger, and bayside wings tossed in caribbean sticky sauce. We basically had the whole menu! Everything was cooked perfectly and fresh! If you're staying at this resort, Sol by the Sea is a must-go! Can't beat the food or the convenience! read more

Food, service, and convenience was good! We ordered the catch of the day (sword fish) grilled and the whole fried yellow fin snapper. The cook on the fish were perfect!! I also got the mock tail. My husband and I are vacationing in the Keys for our 35th anniversary. We were looking for a restaurant with outdoor seating to have a romantic dinner watching the sunset. My husband made a reservation and mentioned our anniversary. From the time we saw the host to the end of our experience, each employee congratulated us. The kitchen needs to be changed. I ask for Oil and Vinegar for my Lobster Louie Salad. I got two oils. Waited a long time till the proper order came out from the kitchen. The lobster was old and tough and was without any redeeming edible value. It tasted like it had been prepared at least yesterday, if not even earlier. I left it all - inedible. Came out here to celebrate my wife's birthday. I ordered the seafood mac and cheese. This came with a light cream sauce and shrimp crab and lobster. Hard to find many pieces of any of that seafood in it but you kind of expect that when you order a seafood mac. The sauce was just to light for me. It didn't have enough flavor and I feel like I was eating plain mac and cheese. I would say the food was a two and a half star dish. The view on the other hand was a five-star all the way. Sitting right on the ocean overlooking it from above was great. I would come back but maybe next time I would just get some drinks and sit there and enjoy the view. read more

Friend had zany idea of driving from Miami to Key West. Wish we spent more time at Key Largo. This is the place to be. Folks, Sol by the Sea is the place to unwind and leave all your worries behind. Breath taking views from the restaurant for you are literally on the beach. The Geckos come out to greet you and then jump back into the bushes as you walk the path towards the restaurant. They too fast for me to get a snap shot. Guess they camera shy. Friendly and welcoming staff. Great service for you learn a bit of the history of Monkey Bread and Key Largo. The molasses butter spread that comes with warm helpings of Monkey Bread sprinkled with pineapple pieces. Yum. If you like rum in your drinks. Get their specialty drinks, they practically come with rum in it. They strong and tad bitter so went for Sangria which little sweeter. Just right. Spicy Conch Fritters with Chipotle Aioli sauce on the side Tuna Poke Island Fish Tacos Wasabi Tuna Burger Each item we ordered were delicious. Will be back again. read more

Spent a day on the boat anchored just outside of the Playa Largo resort. When it came time for lunch, my uncle suggested Sol by the Sea and I'm so happy we did. Whether you're a hotel guest, a hungry boater, or visiting by car - this is a delicious spot to enjoy some waterfront dining. Sol by the Sea is an outdoor venue that has some seating on the sand, but for the most part it's a covered patio that has the most adorable decor. We walked in and it instantly gave me New England boathouse vibes - which was delightfully unexpected since most of the decor is a little charmingly tacky. Our server, Versace, was a total gem. Our group of three started with bloody mary's and conch fritters. They also bring complimentary pineapple coconut biscuits which are to diiiie for. The bloody mary was nothing out of this world, but I did spy other cocktails being served which may be a better option for my next visit. I opted for the fish tacos which have lightly fried mahi-mahi, slaw, pickled red onions and a pinapple relish. WOW they were so freaking good. They came with a side of fries, and I asked for a side of honey mustard which they make from scratch. So good. My Tia had a lobster roll, and my Tio opted for the Tuna burger which were both great. The views from the restaurant cannot be beat. Service was super friendly, and the food was really delish. Pricing is what you can expect for waterfront dining in the Keys. Can't wait to go back! The staff was impeccable, professional while serving us, they gave us a crash course in hospitality and warmth. The food was AMAZING!! Hello French toast with rummm -yummm butttaaaaaa!! The executive chef Ricardo stopped by to check on our service, which was Stellar! Especially when he came to check on us it was a nice touch to our already amazing experience!! Food was absolutely disgusting. I have never drove hours to a beachside resort and the seafood have NO taste. Ordered a whole snapper and had to send it back due to lack of seasoning. The presentation was definitely a step up as it was pretty but lacked simple salt, pepper and garlic. It came with a "dipping" sauce of soy sauce...beyond strange. Part of my party ordered the lobster and shrimp cakes. One order never came and the order that did come was more batter than anything. Also ordered the tuna poke...best part . The dressing. Also ordered the seafood Mac and cheese with a lobster tail, only thing decent was the Mac and cheese. The ambience would be nice for a date night but definitely not for the food read more

I made an reservation, which the restaurant accepted and confirmed, well in advance of our planned trip to the Keys despite somewhat mixed reviews because this looked like an ideal view for a Valentine's Day sunset dinner. Was greeted with an email this morning informing me that my reservation is canceled because (apparently recently) the restaurant decided it will "only be offering a special 3-course, dinner for two, $300++ per couple." It's not like it is a surprise that Valentines Day will be on Feb 14 this year, as it is every year, so if the restaurant wanted to restrict reservations to their "special" event they should have done so before accepting normal reservations for that day. read more

If you want to feel unwelcome and not appreciated then don't come here! We had made dinner reservations on Monday night (June 3rd) at "Sol by the Sea" since we wanted to try something different nearby to celebrate an anniversary. However we were not expecting to get an insensitive remark from a staff member and she was even the manager - VIVIAN! -The hostess at that time can attest to this incident.  When we got to the restaurant we were so amazed with the sunset views that we had to take some photos before getting in but when we told her that we had reservations she explicitly said in a very unpleasant tone "IF YOU HAVE A RESERVATION IN THE RESTAURANT THEN YOU HAVE TO STAY THERE AND DON'T WALK AROUND AND YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO WALK ANYWHERE IN THE PROPERTY" telling us straight that we were so shocked and couldn't even realize what to react.  We were so insulted with that remark that we almost decided to leave and go somewhere else. However both of us were so hungry already so we just stayed and finished the night. I told the hostess about her comments if she really "meant about that" but she interpreted in another way but for us it was a whole issue that bothered us the whole night. I was about to confront her when she went to the table asking how we were but my partner stopped me to avoid any altercation.  Honestly this was not nice of her to say that because was she expecting us to go around the pool, take a dip or go to the rooms and do something bad that can disrupt other guests? What kind of staff do you have there that would think like that and the fact that we were dressed nicely to celebrate a good dinner and pay MONEY was rudely unacceptable. - We felt that this was an isolated case of profiling and I hope I'm right. Truly, this was not a good experience and first impression with our overall visit to the property. It was a good choice that we stayed next door at least there we were appreciated and respected.  Just imagine if we stayed here and we got that comment, it would be very disappointing after paying a lot of money and how bad it would affect us emotionally and psychologically.  I've experienced many different Autograph Collection properties and by far this was the worst and was not expecting it from a Marriott Standard.  Very very disappointed. Our group dined at this restaurant yesterday and it was fabulous. The open air concept overlooking the turquoise Largo bay was incredibly relaxing and refreshing. We were not only impressed with the exceptionally attentive service provided by Omeil, our waiter, but with his dining suggestions. The lobster Mac and Cheese was the best we had ever had. The Poke Tuna Tacos were perfect and Blackened Grouper Sandwich was delicious -as first time guests we were very impressed with the overall experience and will definitely be returning. read more

Great view especially for a sunset. The service started off incredibly slow but got better after I asked for assistance. The jerk chicken wasn't very jerk it was more bbq. Although the chicken was juicy the sauce didn't go beyond the surface. It was decent flavor bbq though. Fun to watch the dock action. Great atmosphere. read more

I had booked in advance and went to the restaurant the day before. I confirmed our "water table" and they told me that it's not possible. Nobody called me to tell me that it wasn't possible beforehand and I'm not really sure why, so thankfully, I found out on my own. When they gave me The table Saturday afternoon it fit three people not four and was miniature. They then moved me to another table that would fit all four of us and food comfortably. I didn't see a weight staff for over half an hour Management came over to apologize and give me free fish dip. Which was fine but I really feel that the ball was dropped from the be before I stepped foot in there. 1- my reservation was automatically/digitally confirmed but the actual staff didn't know or communicate to me the changes which was for an event later that day and could've had easily accommodated me 2- the service is awful just slow or confused trainees on a busy weekend so unprepared or no foresight. they add a 20% tip already but don't mention it to you. I wouldn't have tipped badly regardless but it goes to show why there isn't any enthusiasm for a better experience 3- the food and drinks aren't great they're just okay. And basically winging it. After having bad luck with getting service at the Sand Bar, we headed over to SBTS. The service is exactly what I expected at an island resort and is comparable to what you find in Europe. The prices aren't too terribly steep being that it is on property and they are very similar to what you find in off-property places. We ordered the burger and buffalo chicken sandwich. There was a little miscommunication on my partner's burger preference but not a major deal. Otherwise, we really enjoyed the food. The buffalo chicken was just how I love it...spicy! Since my family and I were staying at the Playa Largo I made a reservation at Sol by the Sea for dinner one night. Besides a minor snafu with OpenTable reservations**, the meal and ambiance were super enjoyable. **(I had requested Outdoor Seating which is apparently different from Waterfront Seating - we ended up sitting on the patio which I liked even better than the available Waterfront seats upstairs). The menu is somewhat small but had options for all of us. I started with the watermelon and arugula salad which was the perfect bayside start to the meal. For dinner, my mom and I both got the shrimp skewers - shrimp, peppers, pineapple skewered over a bed of rice. It was really good and a good lighter option. Our waiter recommended the turtle cheesecake for dessert which I was happy to try! **TIP - try to go as the sun is setting!! So beautiful! read more

The view is amazing especially during the sunset. Went tonight and we were not very impressed by the menu or the food. The best thing we ordered was the tuna poke. I ordered the grouper sandwich which was very hard and dry and my boyfriend ordered the jerk chicken and it was just a roasted chicken with bbq sauce on top. The menu is also limited. The waitress was very nice. If you want fresh fish and real keys food I would go elsewhere. read more

If you're looking for an incredible view with amazing drinks, this is the place. The view is absolutely incredible. I felt relaxed as soon as I got there. They have daily specials and we were lucky enough to try their Key Lime Mule. Highly recommend! It's made with pineapple juice and coconut cream. Tastes like islandy goodness. The food was also good with appropriately sized portions. We had a burger with sweet potato tots, fish tacos with sweet potato tots, and citrus hummus. They were all delicious, but not nearly as spectacular as the view. In terms of covid, the waiters all wear masks and take your order from 6ft away. Tables are also placed more than 6ft away. The tables are sticky but not due to a lack of cleanliness. Service is quick. Wish we could've stayed there all day! read more

Beautiful, clean, new, and upscale restaurant in Key Largo. I ordered a passion fruit caipirinha and the lime taste took over it. I asked for some passion fruit to mix it myself. I was then told they were out of passion fruit, therefore the extra lime. Hmmm! I said: you should have told me you guys didn't have enough passion fruit juice. Anyway, shortly after a little bit of passion fruit was delivered to our table. About the food: I think it is pricey for what you get. My $22 tacos had few pieces of mahi mahi, and the $25 chicken salad lacked veggies. My friend said his conch fritters and conch chowder were amazing. Overall, this is a touristic place and the view is amazing. It has its own the marina where my friend just docked his boat and we just walked few steps into the restaurant. read more

Amazing food! This is the second year in the row that we ate at this restaurant on our annual vacation. The chef was excellent and the staff was top notch. The ambiance was perfect for our last night in the keys. We brought fresh caught lobster tail that was cooked to perfection. Everything came out perfect including my favorite dish which was the crab risotto. I highly recommend trying this restaurant out if you are near Key Largo. read more

Go for the wings but not the ambiance. This is a hotel restaurant with not much charm. The house Bbq wings are plump and yummy and once you have the warm pineapple bread, you don't need to eat any more! The fish is fried in the tacos which makes and the burrata salad has way too much vinegar and dressing. Service charge is included-and given the service no extra tip is needed. read more
