It's definitely…read morea cozy spot -- the interior is pretty small with limited seating, and you order at the counter when you walk in. Luckily the weather was perfect the day we went, so we grabbed a table outside and it ended up being the ideal way to enjoy the meal. We started with a Cuban café with condensed milk, and it was incredible. The coffee was bold and rich like a good Cuban espresso should be, and the condensed milk added the perfect amount of sweetness and creaminess. It was smooth, strong, and honestly one of the best cups of coffee I've had in a while. For food, she ordered the chilaquiles and I ordered the ropa vieja plate, and we also added an order of papa rellenas to share. The chilaquiles were easily the star of the show. The chips were perfectly coated in sauce without being soggy, and the sauce itself had a really unique flavor compared to the traditional chilaquiles I'm used to. It had a deeper, richer taste with just the right balance of spice and tang. Every bite was packed with flavor and it felt like a really thoughtful twist on the dish. The ropa vieja was just as impressive. The shredded beef was incredibly tender and flavorful, clearly slow-cooked because it just fell apart with each bite. The seasoning was spot on -- savory, slightly tomatoey, and really comforting. It came with black beans and rice, and even though I'm usually not a big fan of black beans, these were excellent. They had a lot of flavor and a great texture, not watery or bland like they sometimes can be. The only thing that didn't quite land for me was the papa rellenas. They were well made, but I was expecting something with more of an empanada-like texture or a crispier outer bite. Instead, it was much more potato-forward, which made it a little heavier than I was hoping for. Service was amazing! Kind friendly staff Overall though, the food was flavorful, the coffee was amazing, and the relaxed outdoor seating made it a really enjoyable meal. Definitely a spot worth checking out if you're in the area.

Yelp has me clocking trips here going back to when they first opened in 2018 and I must say they just keep getting better! I'm always warmly greeted when I stop in and enjoy the relaxed vibes while I wait for my takeout order- chatting with the friendly staff and listening to the great music they play while my food is prepared fresh to order. The vegan oxtail, which they make in-house, is my absolute favorite. The plate comes with rice and peas, salad, and plantains. If they have vegan Jamaican Patties available I always get some of those as well (pro tip: they reheat well). Sadly, those veggie-stuffed pastries are frequently sold out, so if you see them get them! When cold weather comes around, I'm all about the Ital soup. It's so simple and flavorful. If I feel a cold coming on this soup is one of my favorite remedies. It's also worth noting that the vegan options have really expanded over the years, and made from scratch, which I definitely appreciate. Dubplate is in my regular rotation for a reason. Check them out!

With authentic flavors and food items, there's not many like it around town. Bodega serves up food from the Caribbean Islands. One of their most popular dishes is their jerk chicken. They have this both as a chicken wing appetizer and as a plated dinner. I personally really enjoy white meat when it comes to chicken and the dinner plate was leg and thigh so I opted to go with the wing appetizer. My only complaint about it was its size. I thought it could have had more wings as I thoroughly enjoyed each one with the jerk sauce I added to it. The wings were very crisp on the outside and full of flavor. Adding the jerk sauce or their house made hot sauces enhanced the flavor even more. I could really see myself coming just for these wings! I also had the Cubano sandwich. This hot, pressed sandwich has ham, cheese, pickles, and mustard. It's a popular item that also is bursting with flavor. The combination of all the ingredients was mouthwatering. It comes with a side of fries to round out the meal. Service at Bodega was very nice. We found the servers to be very patient with us and the food came out reasonably. I was specifically there for a birthday party where we had cake being served from outside the restaurant. Bodega has a cake cutting charge, but seeing our tiny cake they waived it for us! It's a cute restaurant and definitely different than many you will find around Sacramento. If you're in the pocket area, Bodega is well worth a visit!

We ordered the plantain nachos, jerk chicken, guava shrimp, and pineapple upside down cake. Our party ordered margaritas, which they said was on the stronger side. Our food was good, we also ordered yucca fries but our server forgot. Our favorite was their plantains. Their dessert was a bit dry, but flavor was good. All in all, good experience.

I decided to open them all and they all looked so disgusting and were so slimy. I ended up throwing them away. Their tamales are extremely over priced for the quality. When I arrived and got in line I received a nice smile from the lady working behind the counter taking orders. When I made it to the front of the line I ordered four revuelta and four pork and cheese pupusas to go. I requested both hot and mild salsa. Because they make everything fresh there is always going to be a short wait. This gave me the opportunity to see the dining room and rest room. Everything is very clean and the decor is very authentic and inviting. The pupusas are very tasty and the "hot" salsa, while not too spicy, is very flavorful and really accompanies the curtido nicely. The mild salsa tastes very fresh. I made sure I had cash to pay as I read in another review here on Yelp that they only accept cash, but they actually do take credit cards. So don't worry, if you're in the area drop by and give 'em a try. Cash or card will both work to pay the bill. I'll be back!
