Sol de Media Noche (Midnight Sun) in the Valle de Guadalupe (Guadalupe Valley) in Enseneda, Mexico, offers free wine tastings. The flight includes two whites and two reds. Additionally, they give you free samples of bread, cheese, olives, and veggies. With that, you may try their salad dressings, jams, and oils with spices. My favorites oils were "tomate deshidratado de queso" and "chile morita con chocolate." Definitely make sure to tip your wine server. Also, purchase a thing or two from their shop afterwards. Everything except the restrooms are located in large warehouse. Cash or card is accepted at the shop. They sell bottles of wine, cheese, breads, jams, sauces, oils with spices, candies, pastries, purses, jewelry, lotions, and much more. All prices are in pesos: + vino beso de sol ($200) + mermelada chica ($75) + salsas varias ($75) I preferred the white wine labeled as "Chenin Blaco/Cordial." It was definitely sweet, but not as sweet as the second one we tried. The red wine that I preferred was "70&30" or "Cabernet/Tempranillo." It was actually my favorite of the four. Our wine server was very friendly and helpful. From the main road, this place doesn't look like much - a little rundown in fact. This was our first visit in Valle before checking into our hotel, and what a lovely surprise. We had zero expectations because we found it on a whim, but once inside - we were greeted with mini cheese sampler boards in hand, and told to visit one of the bars to start tasting testing their local wines, jams, spreads, dips and dressings with complimentary bread. - WINE: underwhelming unless you're into sweet/juice like wines. - CHEESE: yummy and you can't beat the variety. - DIPS/SPEADS: tasty! we purchased the chimichurri and sun dried tomato dip, we couldn't get enough. - VENUE: buzzing! there are a variety of bars to taste test at, local vendors - food & trinkets. Parking: street or side lot Takeaway: Worth visiting? Absolutely. Plus it's free. FREE WINE TASTING!!!!!!!!!!! It's a market. Look around until they call you for the next group tasting. They serve wine with cheese, jams, crackers, and dips. Wow. This was better than the other tastings I did in the valle. Someone in the group even translated it for us. Most of the wines were really cheap too. This one is for all of you who like freebies. I mean, who doesn't? Sol De Media Noche (translates to Midnight Sun) is a little tough to find at first. This is a big market, hidden behind a restaurant/winery on the busy strip. Walk behind the main building along the highway and you'll find a marketplace packed with all kinds of shops, free wine and cheese samples. Every person gets a free tray of cheese samples that pair well with the free samples of wine. It's also open late (6 PM during the week, and 8 PM on Saturday and Sundays). So you can save this stop towards the end of your day while out wine tasting. Score! There are also a lot of good snack stalls including cake samples. So you can also get a pretty substantial bite to eat while you're there. read more

Come for the wine, stay for the cheese! While the 50 & 50 and 70 & 30 (Cab/Tempranillo) were tasty, the real standouts were the breads and spreads. From the first pour, we were presented with impressive amounts of jam, cheeses, breads, and dressings. If I wasn't so damn full by the time we left, I would've built myself a sandwich to go. Try to taste everything, but if you can only do a couple, get the chimichurri and chile de arbol. ¡Buen provecho! read more

Sol de Media Noche was the next stop on our anniversary trip to Valle de Guadalupe. It's is located off the main road so it can easily be missed. The restaurant is located in the front of the property but if you pull into the driveway and keeping driving you will see the tasting area. It is located in an open warehouse. This place seems pretty popular as we noted tour buses parked in the lot. When you go inside the warehouse it give you the feel of an indoor market. The tasting areas are located towards the back along the walls. You walk up and they give you a little wooden tray with samples of bread and cheese. The tasting areas are lined with jams to try along with your bread. You are also given a plastic cup for the wine tasting. I know some people are turned off by the plastic cup but for a FREE tasting you can't really complain. We tried a few wines but nothing I felt compelled to buy. If you are not a fan of sweet wines they by all costs avoid the chocolate wine. I suddenly felt sick after trying it. I loved the bread, cheeses, and jams. We bought the Garlic bread, Tomato Herb Bread, 2 Quesos de Cuatro Chiles (Four Chili Cheese) and Hibiscus and Chili Jam. They also have olive oil and dressing but we didn't get around to trying those. Also they have some nice trinkets for sale by different vendors. I bought a little bracelet that caught my eye. If you come to Sol de Media Noche, come for the bread, cheese, and jams. I look forward to coming back on my next trip. read more

I loved this place! There is so many different kind of wineries in the area but this one was one of my favorites. It was Sunday when we went and they had a bunch of markets inside and they give you a free cheese platter which you go up to a station and they walk you thru the cheeses and they pair it with a baby sampler wine and bread they make fresh every couple hours also jellies then you can buy some of the wine, cheese or wine. I love it! I bought some bread (rosemary bread was great. So was the banana nut bread) and some jellies also and cheese. I got so many items. Was very good. Must stop by this winery. read more

Fantastic marketplace with one of a kind marmalades, breads, quesos, vinos and more. This is a place that is known for more of a dessert wine and a fantastic chocolate wine - that is no joke... like dark chocolate cherries in a silky tempranillo, served slightly cooled at cave temperature. It's an unexpected highlight and nothing is like it. It is now in large market tents almost across the street from their previous location. It is worth a stop to shop and right now, November, it is open until 8pm at night via generators. Go and get your goodies for the holidays: olives, honey, salad dressings, more cheeses and other gifts - everything organic, artisan quality, unique and one of a kind. This place is more like a store with many food and gift products. You get a cheese sample plate as soon as you come in and then can go around and try samples of many of their products. We did enjoy several of them and took home a butter bread and chimichurri sauce. It was difficult for us to find as there is the restaurant just down the road with the same name. We parked there and walked. It's not far but the where we parked was sketchy. The space is dark and musty. I didn't think the cheese plate we received had anything that good, but it is free. The wine wasn't my favorite either. Overall it's a fun place if you really like free samples. The rest of my group loved it, I just enjoyed the more upscale places in the Valle more. The tasting here is so delicious! I know the layout is odd so just head to the back and grab a spot at one of the tasting bars. The staff are all helpful and super friendly. Of all the wines we tasted during our trip this place had some of the best. And cheapest! We love porta and late harvest wines. The '50/50' and the 'Arrebató de Pasión' were both amazing. We only wish we had brought more. They paired beautifully with cigars! The tasting included unlimited bread which was just delightful and some pretty good cheeses. They had salad dressings, tapenades, and jams. So many yummy things. We are still obsessing over the cesar salad dressing we bought! We were able to buy a nice map of Valle de Guadalupe, wines, salad dressings, tapenades, and jams at very affordable prices. It was an amazingly delicious haul! This place is as local and humble as they come. With so many foreign and corporate investments coming in to Valle it feels good to spend time somewhere local with people who have a passion for what they do. Yes ORGANIC WINERY!!! I didn't even know such a thing existed. I'm glad I came across with this winery. It's so cute. It's small. Mom and Pop winery. Everything is homemade. The wine tasting is FREE and you can taste 5 different types of wines. They also give you a platter of cheeses with a selection of breads that's also homemade, sooooo good. Besides the wine, they also harvest olives which they have for sale.....and they also have different types of spread bread (fruity, herbal, and spices). I loved their wine. The long and short of it: Great cheese. Mostly terrible wine. When you walk in you're not actually sure you're in the right place. This shack doesn't look like the other tasting rooms in the area, nor any winery you've probably been to before. They set you up with a tray with some cheese samples. The trays have been sitting out for an unknown amount of time. Sure, with some cheeses this may not matter, but this is Mexico and the food handling here seems questionable. We sat down at one of the few tables and there were a few other people at the bar doing a tasting. They started us off with a sample of their fruit wine. This was decent. Not as good as the fruit wines that I tend to enjoy from British Columbia, but good enough that I bought a bottle to take home. The cheeses ranged from palatable to slightly less than great, though there's nothing indicating what types you are eating. This was the last winery we hit for the day so the ladies tapped out after the fruit wine and went to find a bathroom. My friend and I continued our tasting at the bar. The lady poured our next sample and as we tasted it she mentioned that they don't oak their wines. And with that we were done our tasting here. The second sample, which was a white of some sort, was so sweet. It was like drinking an ice wine, but not in a good way. We met our ladies at the door and headed off to dinner. read more
