    Menu from May 2026

This is the Petaluma location of Sol Food. The menu is so extensive that it's hard to make a decision! They even have multiple soups of the day. The chicken star logo can be easy to miss, but you won't be able to miss the line of people waiting to be seated! You order and pay first, then bring the number to your table. The server helps you find a table, so don't worry about securing one while your group is waiting in line. SERVERS ARE SO NICE. -Bistec sandwich $14.95 is a good first-timer choice. The sweet plantain may be overpowering though. -Camarones criollos $15.95 had good flavor. Good to share with good portion size of shrimp. -Bistec encebollado $16.45 was a piece of steak that was thin. Ask for the sauces that aren't on the table. The habanero one is good. Parking structure two blocks away is free.

I went with a group of people, and all of us enjoyed what we ordered. I got the lentil soup with a side of chicken. The lentil soup was super tasty!!!! I also love that it doesn't come with potato but cassava. The side of chicken was delicious as well, very well seasoned.

A chain restaurant specializing in Puerto Rican food. I've had a Cuban sandwich and an order of happy hours papa's fritas. Both were good and filling. Decent prices. 4 stars bc they have 2 entrances and 2 registers one for dine in and one for take out, I accidentally ordered take out at the dine in register (how was I supposed to know?) And they made a big deal out of it. Also no true kids menu. You can order sides for small eaters.

I can't tell you how glad I am that this place exists. I have been coming to this location of Sol Food since they opened a few years ago. I love the location and how spacious it feels. I love the large, communal tables. I love the servers who work here, who all seem like they really love working there. The food is consistently excellent and affordable. Plus, their house made hot vinegar sauce is probably my favorite hot sauce in the world and I put it on everything. I almost always get their Pollo al horno. My wife and I share a plate of 3 piece chicken with pink beans and both sweet and savory plantains. Sometimes I'll also get their camarones which are also delicious. I can't say enough great things about this place. It is amazing!

Another awesome dinner with family! We were given a complimentary chicken wings to try after their happy hour!!! They were so tender and delicious! I ordered the COSTILLAS de CERDO which was served with rotisserie pork ribs which were tender and seasoned well with sides of white rice , beans and sweet fried plantain!!! Yummmmy! Very excellent service from the order/ cashier down to the servers who are the same ones bussing tables as soon as plates emptied clearing the tables as soon as possible !!! Awesome staff and service as well as food always great and flavorful!!

Bistec sandwich. Tasty. Good choice of bread. The meat can be a bit tough at times.

Both my daughters love Sol Food. I've been to the newer San Rafael location a few times over the years. I think I enjoyed Sol Food the most was when it first started on the corner of 4th and Lincoln. The shop was very small - maybe 3 seats. Anyway... I've wanted to like Sol Food more than I do. I think the problem is that I order the wrong thing. My two favorite items are the bistec sandwich and the veggie sandwich. The plantain chips with the sauce is good also. I will continue to go back since my kids like it and I will hope that my review can improve.

    tostones con queso

Pretty solid overall, but nothing mind blowing. Ordered the 2 piece pollo al horno $23, costillos combo $17, tostones con queso $9.50. Quality food, good portions, somewhat healthy. The tostones con queso was highly recommended by the cashier but it was nothing special and I regretted ordering it since my other dish already had tostones. It's an order at the register, grab a number, and they will bring your food to you type of place. Open seating with indoor and outdoor tables. Nice open space

Tostones con Mojo, Vegetariano, Spicy Coconutty Stew

I came here with friends following a cheese tour at a local dairy farm. We were looking for a place that had veggie options and this seemed to fit the bill while also catering well to the meat eaters in our group. We came by for lunch. It was very busy but they were quick to seat us, even though it wasn't the most comfortable seating. Food got to us very quickly, within 15 minutes. It was a big space and had lots of people. Very buzzy and a pretty fun place to eat -- the decor was amazing! My partner and I ordered the Vegetariano, Tostones Mojo (I think), and the Coconut Stew. First, the coconut stew was DELICIOUS. Definitely get this. Really flavorful and not too spicy at all! The Vegetariano and the tostones were good, but nothing amazing. The Vegetariano was a lot of food and came with fries. We liked everything here. The salad was amazing as well, the dressing was great! The beans, rice, and avocado were all delicious as well. I think the tostones were fine, not too flavorful (even the Tostones Mojo). Would recommend!

I mostly door dashed the food from here and it was always so satisfying. I came in tonight and found out that they have Happy Hour Monday to Friday from 2 pm to 5:30 pm. 50% wine all day Tuesday! The service was great dining in. You ordered at the counter first and find a table. The staff will bring you the food to your table. I love their chili sauce. It goes well with everything. My favorite is chicken with rice and garlic plantain! I can never get tired of it! The coco-mango smoothie is so good. Feels very refreshing and not overly sweet.

Pollo al Horno Salad with fried shrimp

I've been to Sol Food in San Rafael three times and really enjoyed it so I was expecting to like my lunch in Petaluma today. Sadly I was mistaken. I don't know what happened but this was nothing like I remembered. I got the same dish every time . I got the chicken with fried plantains, rice, beans snd salad.the chicken was utterly boring with bits of fat that were very unappetizing. The plantains were not sweet at all and the whole thing was bad. My husband ordered salad with shrimp and he didn't like it either. We were both disappointed. We went right about noon ( on a Friday) and there was no line and the place was pretty empty the whole time we were there, If we ever go back at all we'll go to San Rafael but not here. The people working there were very friendly and the communal tables are fun. But I don't know what's going on in the kitchen.!

The service is hard to comment on because you pay at the counter and they bring you your food so you're on your own from there. The ambiance is lively with lots of space indoors and outside in the back. Although I came on a date I noticed it was great for families and kids. The pork chop was good, it tasted like good quality meat but it lacking in spice & herbs Or marinate. It was good but it tasted like plain pork. Same with the Bistec it was underwhelming not the most flavor blast in my mouth but it was good quality. The rice was salted very well & the beans were good and sweet plantain was good. I really enjoyed the mango orange iced tea and the fries were perfectly crisp. I think I was more impressed with the French fries & drink than the meat idk what that says about me. But I think there's lots to try on the menu I will be back

Can't believe I waiting this long to try Sol Food. The pork ribs with the hot pepper sauce is amazing. The combo plate comes with a bed of rice, beans, salad, and 2 plantains (1 sweet, 1 savory). The ribs and chicken is what they're known for so that's definitely what I'll always be ordering! The indoor is spacious and clean. It feels like you were transported to a new place. The staff is very friendly and makes sure you're well taken care of. We got our food in less than 15 minutes, even with the busy crowd. Can't wait to come back!

Im so glad they opened a Sol Food here in Petaluma. It's in downtown so parking can be tricky during the weekends. You have to order first, then find a table, and they bring the food out to you. Their pollo al horno is delicious. The chicken is very tender and seasoned well, and I love dipping it in the pique sauce and eat it with their rice and pink beans. I'm a huge fan of tostones so I am glad they have it as an appetizer with cheese and you can add avocado or tomatoes. Their sandwiches are also really good, especially the busted and the Cubano. I just realized they also serve breakfast. Their coconut latte is to die for- I usually get it iced. I rotated between the sol stack (tostones with beans, eggs, avocado) or the PR hash (rice topped with ground beef and eggs). It can get pretty busy during the weekends or dinner around prime time, so just be aware of that.

The restaurant uses community-style seating with shared tables, which adds to the lively and welcoming atmosphere. The staff is consistently friendly and helpful. The ordering process is simple--you place your order at the counter when you enter, find a seat, and the food is brought out shortly after. Despite how busy the restaurant can get, the food arrived quickly. On this visit, we ordered the Mariquitas, Tostones con Mojo, Camarones a la Diabla, and the Sándwich de Pollo. Every dish was excellent. The portions were generous, the ingredients tasted fresh, and everything was packed with flavor. The Camarones a la Diabla had just the right amount of spice, while the sides and appetizers were equally enjoyable. What stands out most about Sol Food is the consistency. Great food, friendly service, reasonable wait times, and excellent value for the quality and portion sizes. First of all, we came during an off-hour, around 3:30pm, and there was still a line to order at the counter. They provided complementary ice water from a dispenser outside with cups, which was really nice. Once we placed our orders, we stood outside with everyone else as the indoor area is pretty small with only limited counter seating at the window. We waited about 5 minutes to order and another 10-15 for our food. Most people set up camp on the tailgates of their cars in the parking lot, so we did the same. Pro tip: some people brought camping chairs and coolers to make it into a real tailgate, which I thought was really cool. - Pollo al horno: ordered the Large plate which came with generous portion of chicken, white rice, choice of fried garlic plantain or sweet plantain (or one of each), side of beans (choice of black or pink), and a side salad. Chicken was marinated very nicely and wasn't too dry. - Bistec encebollado: ordered the Large plate also which came with the same as above. Steak was cooked well and surprisingly tender enough to cut easily. Both plantains were good but I really liked the garlic one because it was different than the sweet plantains I'm used to. The Large plate portion sizes were huge! Although the price did reflect this, I think it was still worth for the amount of food given.

We also discussed his upbringing in NYC and his long history in the Bay Area's challenging culinary scene. This conversation happened before I had the opportunity to taste the succulent Puerto Rican dishes on his menu. Chef Erick is a truly humble and professional culinary artist. He lets his cooking do the talking, allowing his ingredients and timely combinations to showcase his superb culinary skills. From our conversation, I learned that he genuinely cares about the quality of his ingredients. While we talked about his experiences cooking for all kinds of tables in the Bay Area, from VIPs and celebrities to daily blue-collar San Franciscans seeking standout meals, Chef Erick answered at least five phone calls. He diligently coordinated with his local suppliers to ensure he, and in turn his customers, would have access to nothing but the best ingredients during the upcoming weekend rush. Most Puerto Ricans, including those adopted (see Chef Anthony Bourdain's memoirs), know a Puerto Rican restaurant is truly judged by the quality and flavor of its Pernil. This slow-roasted pork shoulder or leg is marinated in a robust herb paste. Many Puerto Rican families guard their herb paste recipes as closely as The Coca-Cola Company guards its Coca-Cola recipe. Pernil is the centerpiece of holiday feasts and family celebrations. That's why I chose this menu to celebrate meeting Chef Erick. Without hesitation, he prepared for me--someone born and raised in Puerto Rico--his masterfully concocted pernil with arroz con gandules and a side of maduros fritos. I have to say, this was the best Puerto Rican food I have tasted in all of California, from Santa Rosa to San Diego. I have visited all the restaurants in the Bay Area: El Coqui, both Sol Foods locations, Parada 22, and Lola's Lounge in Sacramento. I ordered both the crab and Cuban empanadas when I visited them at the San Jose Latin Food Festival. Their empanadas are made-to-order, which is great in theory as you know they are fresh but also resulted in waiting almost 30-45 minutes. The empanadas were definitely tasty but not necessarily worth the long wait. Now I should mention that the festival itself was a complete flop (if I could write a review, it would be two stars)... besides this place, there was literally one other taco truck and a Puerto Rican food stall. There were quite a few people in attendance at this festival that were literally all split in terms of waiting in line between these three places. I'll give Dona Aida's the benefit of the doubt and that they may have just been overwhelmed with the crowd hence the long wait time. However, I should note that I also caught a glimpse of this place at the Latin Food Festival in Oakland (much more successfully put together than the festival in San Jose) and they seemed to be backed up there as well. Once again, the empanadas from here were delicious and had I picked up my order immediately, I would have given a five star review, but it does seem like they are best used for pre-orders/catering rather than made-to-order at an event.
