It did take us awhile to be seated and served but the awesome bartender, Jonathan, kept the drinks coming quickly so I can't say we minded too much. We had ordered the margarita, beermosa, and Cuba libre-- all delicious and not too expensive. The endless beermosas are a steal! Soggy fries with a El Jefe burger that promised to deliver great spicy flavor...but the person preparing our food just didn't pay attention to the ingredients. Not enough guacamole, one jalapeño, hardly any Mayo. I asked them to hold the tomatoes, I got EXTRA tomatoes. I also removed the sad wilted lettuce from the burger. We have eaten at Sol a few times before while visiting Athens. The food and service were always good. We stopped in for lunch expecting the same. We waited half an hour for a sandwich and a bowl of soup. When I told the server that she brought the wrong soup she told me that they were out of the soup I ordered. Sol was my go to place when I was staying in Athens. They have a good variety of dishes to choose from, so I guess you could say there's something for everyone here. I've tried the cuban sandwich and the el jefe burger. Both were decent and super affordable. Only bad part was when they ran out of jalapenos for my jefe burger, but they communicated that to me so I didn't mind. They are still opened for delivery and takeout. The inside is super cute, they have patio seating, and there's a little bit of everything on the menu with a cool, unique, twist to each dish that is delicious! It was a Sunday afternoon, I took pics of the menu while we were deciding what to order (12:40) The place was dead, nearly all the tables were dirty from what looked like the aftermath of a busy lunch. There are not a lot of options for outdoor seating in Athens on Mondays. We chose Sol, because they have plenty of outdoor seating and were the only customers when we entered at noon. I got the Chimichurri Chicken Bowl (pictured) and Cuban coffee. The bowl was OK. I thought the chicken was too hard and the sauce tasted and looked like ranch. The Cuban coffee had a good kick to it and was very sweet (although that's the way it's supposed to be!). Overall an OK, but not exceptional, experience for lunch on a Monday. read more

I've been wanting to try this place, so my family and I decided to go after we rode the bike trails. My sons Mac and cheese was cold and had solid shredded cheese on top. My fish sandwich had a large black hair in it. The waitress didn't make eye contact, didn't say hello, didn't offer refills, didn't offer ketchup, salt and pepper and ignored me when I tried to show her the hair. They also sat us beside a speaker that was very loud, and the noise difficult for my son. Just an all around bad experience. We just left ended up leaving without saying anything. Enjoyed a very pleasant dinner at Sol with my family. I opted for the chimichurri chicken bowl. It was very simple and super flavorful, with a fresh, green chimichurri sauce spooned over marinated grilled chicken, white rice and black beans. Chopped romaine lettuce and tomatoes completed the dish, which was very satisfying. My daughter had the El Jefe burger with a black bean patty - she loved it. It comes with guacamole, jalapeños, chipotle mayo and pepper jack cheese. My husband had the Ultimate burger with a beef patty and bacon. He said his was just OK. The burgers came with a good amount of tasty hand cut fries. I was so pleased to see they had Rhinegeist Bubbles on tap and enjoyed a tall serving with my meal. We walked in with an hour until close on a Sunday, which we know isn't ideal but since we aren't chain restaurant people, we didn't want to "settle". We were sat and served immediately. Our server recommended appetizers and we ordered the guac and chips. The guacamole was made in house, fresh, and chunky. We prefer thinner chips but they complimented the flavor of the guac well. I ordered pulled pork sandwich with the rum BBQ sauce and hubby had fish tacos. Both dishes were fresh and delicious. I highly recommend anything with that BBQ sauce; the sweet heat was outstanding. The price is extremely reasonable for the quality and portion size. Our server recommended we try their Saturday / Sunday brunch menu (which we would make the 2.5 hour drive for, especially with the nearby bike trail and hiking).
