I have gone to Sol twice at lunch. The food is always good but the service is generally soooooo slow. This time I was meeting a client and was about 15 minutes early . There we're no more than 6 people in the restaurant at 11:30 am. The water came out immediately and not too long a very nice waiter came over to take my order. I asked for a Diet cole with lemon . The lemon came about 10 minutes later . Once my client came we were chatting away and eventually got to order. The food was excellently prepared, flavorful and abundant . Over all the lunch was very good but in general very slow service . Overall the prices are competitive and the food is of good quality and great preparation . They just need to pick up the speed. read more

The queso is a MUST go and the chips are made from root vegetables and it's phenomenal. I seriously had a mouth watering meal where I scraped the plates clean. The tacos you get two per serving and they are good size and who could of thought you get truffle fries with tacos and it's a must have flavor. Excited to go back and try their brunch. read more

Called a month at least before Mother's Day to see if they were having a brunch or regular menu. I was told regular menu. I looked at the menu on line and saw several good dinner selections so reservations were made for 2pm. We got there and it was less than half full. We were given breakfast menus with a few sandwiches on the menu. I asked for the dinner menu and was told that only brunch is served on Sundays! We waited a full hour to get our barely above room temperature food. One of our party ate none of his order as it was that bad. Another had to have her burger remade without cheese as she had ordered in the first place. I refused a second mimosa and was offered nothing else to drink. When we finally got our check and left there was only one table of people in the whole restaurant. Four cooks that I could see were at the grill. It was a pathetic experience for any day let alone Mother's Day. I don't know how they stay in business. I couldn't wait to get home and make something good to eat. And to add insult to injury we had to pay for parking! Instead of answering bad reviews perhaps they should spend some time training their staff. read more

Stopped in after a little shopping in downtown Willoughby. Surprised that the place was packed (good to see!!!) Was offered the limited brunch menu, and had no problem since that's what we were looking for! Two ordered breakfast tacos, while we two ordered burgers. EVERYONE stated how great the dishes were! Burgers perfectly made and the cubes home fries were perfect! Tacos were good sized and packed to the edge!! This restaurant had delicious food and very nice wait staff. The malanga chips were delicious and unique. The decorum is very nice and inviting and the layout of the restaurant is spacious. Very inviting and the doughnut dessert looked very good. Unfortunately my son was unable to partake in dessert because he cannot have sugar, or much of it anyways. One recommendation I have would be to look into sugar free options for those on the keto diet or diabetic. The flank steak and cheesy potatoes were excellent. The steak was tender and flavored well. Great ideas, executed pretty poorly.. Went to Sol for my birthday with some girlfriends and was so excited after checking out the menu seeing crispy Brussels sprouts, truffle fries, tacos, and margarita flights?! Yum Food- Brussels sprouts were pretty overdone, borderline burnt, I like burnt food and it was still too much. Rest of the food was good, not great, dry and seriously lacking sauce on tacos and sandwiches, well, really everything. Drinks were all either too sweet or too spicy, we ended up mixing some up ourselves at the table to balance them out. Service- hostess was beyond rude, I've never experienced anything like this in my life.. walked in around 6:30p on a Saturday and asked for a table for 3, we were prepared to hang out in the area and wait as long as needed, but the man said "if you don't have a reservation, we just can't serve you tonight. Sorry." Well okay weird, this is not the place that comes off as that exclusive, and we didn't see anywhere on the website where it said reservations were required, but whatever. I've walked in and been seated immediately at much nicer establishments than a taco joint.. Went back to the car to update the friends and they said "we were just able to make reservations online in 15 minutes, and there's openings every 15 minutes for the rest of the night." So we went back in 15 minutes later, told him what happened, and he seated us no problem next to 15+ other empty tables.. checked halfway through dinner and all the reservation openings were still open, so they never changed it. Apparently don't come here unless you have a reservation. We showed up at 915 on a Saturday. The place was empty. Asked for a table and was told "they are really booked on the weekends and only taking reservations." So as we left, I checked their reservations on their website and it's WIDE OPEN. The service was terrible. Our waitress continuously disappeared even though she only had two tables. She didn't seem to be too interested in answering any of our questions about the menu. The food is overpriced for what you actually get. Not only did the food lack in flavor, it came out cold. Only part of the meal that was decent, were the fries. But you can't go too far wrong with a french fry. We were excited to try the margaritas, they were subpar to say the least. Overall seems like a restaurant that maybe has loyal customers that keep it afloat. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone actually looking for a good meal. read more

Came here for Saturday Brunch. Easy to find parking, and the place didn't get anywhere near crowded during our time there. In fact, it looked like we were the only ones in the whole restaurant until around 11:30. Food wise, it was okay. I got the shrimp and polenta. It was good, but came with a lot of maple sauce that was very sweet. To be fair, the description i the menu did warn me. It's not something I would get again. My friends got the breakfast tacos (which looked delicious! With a really thick piece of bacon on top) and the eggs benedict. Coffee with free refills was $3. They also had a table full of a few kinds of donuts that they said the chef baked fresh that morning. They were really good! A perfect combo of fluffy and cakey and the glaze on top was thick with good flavor! We split a vanilla sprinkles one for $2. Would definitely recommend the donuts! read more

I have been very hesitant to eat out during Covid. I finally broke down and made a reservation at Sol for inside seating, although I explained I'd prefer to eat outside (no reservations for outside are taken). Was really pleased they accommodated me! First time there and very pleasantly surprised. Lovely vibe at this Latin American restaurant. Their outdoors area is lovely and the music and decorations made for a cool Latin-like experience. Now to the food. Delicious! We order tapas: grilled octopus, mussels, and the Brussel sprouts. Super well prepared and presented. We are going back to try some of the other dishes as the menu has a lot of interesting options. Highly recommend Sol. It's right in the heart of Willoughby. read more

This is definitely my go to location for brunch. To begin, if you want a table, it's by reservation only. However, if you're lucky, you might find space at the bar. There was a live band playing music in the background. I ordered the bottomless mimosas and the chicken and waffle. The bottomless mimosas were indeed bottomless and they let me change the flavor in between each cup. The highlight of this meal was the chicken and waffle. Not often do restaurants serve a chicken breast with the waffle, Sol did. The very bold move was backed up with a chicken breast that was huge (practically the same size as the waffle), juicy, tender, and flavorful. The chicken breast was perfectly fried, giving it a crispy outside with a wonderful moist and tender inside. The fresh Italian herbs complimented the waffle, and the unique siracha syrup brought everything together and dethroned Guy Fieri as the mayor of Flavortown. The portion was perfect. Not too little to leave you hungry afterwards, and not too much to make you uncomfortable. I've frequented downtown willoughby for years and too often overlooked Sol. It's unbelievable that this existed in my own backyard. read more

Great place, good dinner, great service, amazing looking back patio area. The interior is beautiful, and the back patio or outdoor eating area looks beautiful, I would love to get drinks and relax outside. We ordered the brussel sprouts as an appetizer which is a crowd favorite. Great flavor and delicious crunch, huge portion. My boyfriend ordered the Cuban which was also a huge portion and very good. He really enjoyed the corn that comes on the side. I ordered the kale salad with chicken, which didn't really have much kale but a lot of greens I've never had before. Overall good flavor, but the greens had a very strange extra earthiness, but still very good. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. My only complaint is we came for dinner and had to pay $5 to park in their lot. read more

Let me start off by saying that the interior and especially the outside patio are absolutely beautiful places to dine! My wife and I took a gander here on a Friday night for dinner. While we enjoyed the atmosphere immensely, we were only so-so about the food. We started with a charcuterie plate because I am a sucker for charcuterie. The plate came with a small selection of cheeses and cured meats, a thick fig spread, some crostini's and some picked veggies. While each individual aspect of the plate was good, there were a few combinations that truly didn't go together. It was also a rather small collection of offerings and the crostini's were rather hard and difficult to eat. My wife got a selection of tacos and I got the salmon ratatouille. I definitely enjoyed the salmon but the ratatouille sauce could have used some more dimension ... it came out as more of a plain tomato sauce more than anything. My wife enjoyed her tacos, though she was disappointed the default tortilla is flour rather than corn (you can ask for corn though! It's just not the default, which loses authenticity points in our eyes). Lastly, the service was absolutely amazing! Our server was helpful and informative - and happy to answer any questions we had. read more

Passing through town on a Saturday after 1:00 for lunch. We were starving! This place is awesome! The urban bourbon with the smoking sage leaf arrived at table and the aroma and presentation over any expectations. The food was outstanding. Space is very open, high ceilings and except at the bar, tables were spread out. Can't wait to go back again, and want to walk around Willoughby more as it seems to be a good Mecca. Who knew. Was really happy on our return visit to Sol this past month. The dining room is large, which can distract from the atmosphere. If you can get into the lounge area by the fireplace, it has a very cozy, rustic hip vibe. The only downside here is that it's also by the door. I hear the patio is very nice in the summer. There are garage style doors off the bar area that open up. The menu has several tapas style offerings. We tried The Brussels sprouts and the fries. The fries weren't bad and the brussels sprouts were delicious, just a tad bit over oily. I was very impressed with the serving sizes for the pricing on those. They were definitely shareable. I then had the chorizo tacos. It came with two nice size tacos and a little cup of off the cob street corn. The flavor of the corn was excellent. The tacos were tasty as well but the meat tasted reheated in the microwave. It had that funny little flavor that you get when you reheat pork. If you can get past that, they were good, lots of flavor. Others at our table tried a salad or sandwich and a dinner entree. They all looked delicious. I do feel the pricing was way too high for the dinner entrée portion size. Everything was very fresh and flavorful though. read more

The first time I was eating here, the food was good, and the service was not. I ordered the Ropa vieja dish, which was good. However, while eating, I found a piece of plastic in it from either a sack of potatoes or onios, I told the server, and she just said well it happens, definitely not the answer I was looking for. I wasn't looking for a free meal but at least an apology or something. Will probably come back again. I ordered the breakfast tacos both times - the aioli has me thinking of these for weeks at a time! Not my first time at this place. Great location ( downtown willougoby) , amazing beck patio (perfect for summer), tasty food...but each time I come service gets worse and worse. I reserved a table and when I got there hostess wasn't there.. mind you place was not busy at all for Sunday morning brunch. When we got seated we got some irish coffee and my cup had someone's lipstick shmired all over it( gross in the middle of pandemic era). They exchanged the cup but my coffee ended up being cold already. They didn't offer to warm it up. Water wasn't served on the table until I asked for it.There was someone's short blond hair in my food. People that were seated after us set there and then left since no one came up to them to get their order( reminder- place wasn't busy at all). read more

Then about an hour ago... 1am, my girlfriend started violently vomiting from the tacos she had. The server was a sweetheart. That is the only reason this place gets a star. read more

Just here to update my review and say Sol is still a great place! We had my bridal shower in the side room and the staff did a great job. The buffet food was delicious and servers were attentive for drink orders and clearing plates. Our food was delicious and portions are just right. I had truffle fries and barbacoa tacos with street corn. The taco was smoky with tender juicy beef it had the perfect amount of crunch and heat. The truffle fries with aioli were a great way to start the meal. The staff were very friendly and attentive without hovering over us. The atmosphere is comfortable and the patio is relaxing. Gotta say this is disappointing! I'll admit I've had a good experience here but that was a long time ago. Every time since then which is only a hand full of times cause some friends have suggested we go here ( never the same friend cause they learn from their mistakes) As we have been sitting here with two empty plates and one with a horribly burnt piece of chicken on it we have seen the waitress walk by our table several times within the 40 minutes we have been waiting for her to give us our check. I know a lot of people on Yelp will exaggerate to make their story better but it is literally 40. However a different waitress than the one we had was nice enough to refill our waters a couple times while ours stood at the bar. The waitress who brought our waters is the one who earned the 2 stars. Nobody else and definitely not the dinner. Also this was meant to be a grilled chicken. This is a horrible charred dry piece of poultry that was difficult to look at. I'm addition to that. It's a Monday night and there are 4 tables here including us. Other than that this place is dead.
