Awful. I've given the salon a few chances now and I've really never had a problem. Manicures have been pretty decent and lasted way longer then usual ones. Today I had a new person do my manicure a young man. When I asked for glitter he said ok but when it was placed on my finger nail he took it off and shook his head asking me to pick another color. I picked other glitter ones he "couldn't find them" so I ended up picking pink. Awful. Nails uneven and and a huge air bubble. I came home annoyed and pissed my husband went back to complain they asked to see my nails in person. I have no desire to go back whatsoever. I work in customer service whenever my customers complain I don't question them I try to fix the problem. read more

I've gotten my hair done here for almost five years now, and I will never go anywhere else. Phat, one of the head stylists, does wonders w/ my fine, short hair and I always leave feeling like a million bucks!!! He's sooooooooooooooo good and their prices are more than fair for being a spa. The nail technicians are always great, too. I can't give as high marks to the 'wellness' peeps in the back that do massages, facials, etc. I treated my mom to a facial and the older woman who did her facial made me feel like a bad daughter b/c I didn't buy the most expensive treatment, and she did this in front of my mom. JUST WRONG. BUT, Phat, the stylist, is wonderful and so good at what he does. 5 stars and highly recommend. read more

I have been going to this place for over a year and they do a really good job catering to their customers. I have gotten my manicures, pedicures, eyebrow waxing and even my hair done here and each service was done well. I am black and I have very short hair and Kimberly was able to style it in a way that rendered lots of compliments. That is a big deal considering the state of my hair, short, uneven and thinning allover. My wash and style only cost $40, which I think is reasonable. The OPI or hardening polish manicures are pricey and the pedicures are pretty pricey. I never remember anyone's names but if you find someone you like definitely remember their name and always go back to them. Overall everyone is good. read more

I used this salon from Nov 2012 to Sept 2013 until we moved out of the area. Went to one other place down the street and was SUPER disappointed, not to mention the infection I got on my toe from my nail being cut down wayyyy to far. Teresa is my go to lady. When I originally started going to this salon, I had pink and white acrylic nails. Sometime after my hands/nails started getting really irritated and I realized that it was an allergic reaction to the acrylic. This is when I tried another place, thinking there might be something wrong with the product they were using, I was wrong, and my hands and fingers had become allergic to the acrylic(I've been getting my nails professionally done for 10 years, so 10 years of fake nail wearing and my body had had enough) I went back to Teresa and she took off my fake nails and started with a shellac manicure. They are still on the pricy side, around $35, but it keeps your nail strong while it is regrowing and healing from having fake nails on a really long time. I wish I still had photos...my nails always looked amazing and I got compliments on them all the time. They always do a great job on my pedicures and my eye brow/lip waxing. :) I miss this place a lot! The only reason for my 4 stars instead of 5 is the prices in the area are CRAZY expensive. Having moved from VB where a spa pedi is $30, and a spa pedi here is $45...it was quite a shock when I did get my bill at this establishment. read more

The first time I came here for a gel manicure it was horrible. The edges were a mess, and it started to chip the same day. I thought maybe I just got the wrong person or it was a fluke. I tried it again and the same thing happened. For a $40 manicure, I expect clean edges along my cuticles and a manicure that lasts for 2 weeks. I have been going to Solace for years and after my last visit I doubt that I'll be back. My appointment was for a shellac and pedicure. I was taken to a pedicure chair and my fingers were wrapped in foil with acetone soaked cotton to lift off gel polish. Unfortunately, I was scolded for resting my hands on the arms of the pedicure chair because the acetone will discolor the wood. Excuse me, but wouldn't it make sense to place a towel under my hands and on top of the arm of the pedicure chair to prevent any damage to the arms of the chair? I have a real problem with being uncomfortable while having a pedicure which should be a relaxing experience. Instead of being relaxed, I had to put my hands in my lap until I asked for a towel to put under my hands. My recommendation is this: do not soak pieces of cotton with acetone to the point of acetone dripping out of the foil wrap, consider soaking off gel polish after the pedicure so the client can relax fully and do not scold clients and tell them that they get yelled at by management to cover up your lack of thought and professionalism. Very disappointed with the rudeness and attitude displayed by the technician. read more

I've waiting up to 45 mins just to get my eyebrows done after having a scheduled appointment. This is also the kind of place that even if an employee waxes your eyebrows completely and utterly uneven, she won't say anything and they will still charge the same amount. The people here are very kind, but I started to feel like my money would be better spent elsewhere. 1) My toe nail polish after my pedicures never lasted past the first week. 2) When getting waxed, she re-dipped the same stick back in the wax. 3) My wax was a botched job. I had patches of hair in different areas. And afterwards my skin started to peel. I wouldn't come here for any wax below the neck. See waxing professionals. I have been a customer here for over 12 years. The salon has become so dirty and not clean. I would never get a massage here. I am weary of how clean things are. People have been coming and going (quitting). I have seen at least 3 new receptionists in 3 months. The BATHROOMS ARE DIRTY AND THE HOT WATER DOESN'T WORK( for more than 2 years now). I heard from many people that the cleaning lady quit. How do people who work there get their hands clean!!! The owner, Michelle, is never available to talk. It seems to me it is all about the MONEY. They should invest the money in cleaning up the salon. Recently, they got me mixed up with someone else and insisted I got a massage, which I didn't. The receptionist said it was someone else with the same name. Accusing me basically of lying. Then, that same night the reception called my house again saying I had a massage. Then even checked with the person who cuts my hair. The main reason i have kept going is the person who cuts my hair. I am going to call the health department it is not sanitary. If I could give this place no stars, I would. I walked in and stood for about it 5 minutes without anyone ever greeting me. Then another lady walked in behind me. One of the employees got right up and walked over and greeted her and began her services. After the manager saw the confusion and disgust on my face she assured me I would be next. She told the employee that I was next. The two of them went back forth in another language pointing to me. The unenthused employee finally had me pick a color and showed me to my chair. I told her 4 times I was only getting one nail repair, a polish change on my nails, and a pedicure. She slapped some acrylic on my broken nail very sloppily. While she waited for it to dry she took the polish off my toes and began filing my toenails.... without ever allowing me to soak... like a regular pedicure. I explained the services I wanted AGAIN. She then sent me to wash my hands.... never shaped it, filed it, buffed it...nothing. I asked her to even out the shape of my nail. She proceeded to file my one nail down to my finger. When I asked her why she filed ALL my tip off, she responded by asking if I wanted all the other nails the same length. I finally grabbed my purse and just walked out. read more

I have been going to Solace for over 5 years and, was a loyal customer; facials, massage, SNS nails, pedicures, hair cut and color, all on a very regular basis. However, after today, I will never go back. Yesterday I made an appointment (the owner made the appointment) for 11:45 AM today as always I called this morning to confirm my 11:45 AM all good, get there at 11:35. I was told no, your appointment is for 4:45. I showed the owner who was at the desk my cell phone showing I called to confirm; calling to confirm is something I always do. She told me I could come back or go with a different girl. Since I have a date tonight, I could not come back so I had no option but to go with another girl. As soon as she put the tips on I told her they were to wide, she said not to worry she would fix it. Then she put the powder on, I said that is not right, again not to worry I will fix it. She filed and filed to the point that they were so short there was nothing that could be done. At that point I was done, left came home an soaked them all off. Lesson here; even if you have an appointment does not mean you have an appointment; even if you confirm it. Yes, I am picky about my nails, who is not; that is why we make appointments so we can get the person who does them the way we like. read more

They can only do basic services - manis, pedis, massages. Anything else - I highly recommend you do not use. As you can read from all the reviews - when they venture into areas that need skills, they fail terribly. I mistakenly had eyelash extensions done here and it was a nightmare. They were hard, brittle and clumpy. As far from natural as you can imagine. And while they did try to remedy the situation, the manager (who was also the eyelash technician) refused a refund or even a partial refund. Absolutely refused. I did not want them fix it - I wanted them off. Their definition of customer service has little to do with actually pleasing the customer and more to do with being entrenched in their position that "they feel badly" and tried "to fix it". Bottom line - keep it simple here or you will regret it. read more

I get pedis almost every two weeks, I'm always looking for a good spa pedi, so far I haven't found a place that's anywhere as good as my old place in CA. With that said, running some errands I saw this place and decided to check it out, for the price 60$ I won't be returning, they had many different spa pedicures all kinda pricy which I don't mind if it's worth it, and it wasn't.. The lady didn't introduce herself so I didn't get her name but she was very nice! But the scrubs and massages were very short and more of a rubbing than anything else, I wouldn't mind but I did pay for a footology treatment. 6:44pm "I've got an emergency, can anyone fit me in for a Brazilian?" I didn't actually expect a positive response, but I was amazed by the wonderful customer service I received here. I called them first, and they told me they'd make it happen and to come in. I got there at 10 til close and they still took me any way, didn't even break a sweat and knew I was the Brazilian emergency right when I walked in the door. Normally I go to Sugar House in Old Town, probably because I'm a bit spoiled, especially when it comes to such a sensitive service. I was definitely nervous because it wasn't the posh place I'm used to. I was recommended this place by two cousins, my sister, and several friends... that was the only reason I gave this a go. I was immediately greeted by the sweetest staff, HUGE plus over Sugar House. Next, I was offered wine, my choice of red, white, or champagne; another treat . The service itself was pleasant, painless, and the conversation was definitely comforting for my situation. The wax itself turned out to be perfect; she was very thorough and detail oriented. They were in no rush to get me out of there, either, something I can appreciate because I hate being rushed. Finally, the best part was the price, only $60. I used to refer to Solace as "that nail place around the corner, by GNC", never again, they deserve so much more credit than that! I'll definitely come here again! The only reason I would still occasionally go back to Sugar House is the ambiance. I miss the dimly lit hallways, the sensual scents, and the relaxing music. I have been coming to this place about once per month for about 5 years now and I love it. I do waxing and pedicures here and I've seen about every tech in the place and never had a bad experience. Even though the salon is busy, the techs rarely rush and even the more "efficient" people do a good, thorough job. I also like that the prices are always the same and have been for the whole time I've been a customer here. Plus, they always have room for walk-ins. I am usually very easy going about my hair, but this experience was traumatizing. I asked for a light blonde with auburn lowlights (I was already a blonde) what I received was purple hair with pink and orange over processed highlights. My hair was so badly burned that the places she did highlights broke off so now I have one inch tufts of hair. As I was attending a wedding that weekend I had to schedule an emergency hair appointment at a different salon to cover the purple hair. To make matters worse, I had long almost to my butt hair. I told the stylist to take no more than 1/2 inch to an inch off the length, and to add in a few long layers. What I got was six inches of my hair chopped off. So not only did I end up with a horrible color, fried hair, but I also lost so much length that I ended up crying for the rest of the day. When the time came to leave they charged me for the cut but waved the color and "highlight"... When I didn't want to pay they wouldn't budge. My hair is now something I hate when it used to be my favorite feature. They do great manis and pedis, but this experience was so bad I will never go back. read more

I am not to sure about the hair or nail portion of the spa but what I can tell you is that Jackie is amazing! I have been going to her for years. She plays lovely relaxing music with a great deep massage. Her massages are deep yet gentle. I always fall asleep. I only go to solace for Jackie. I highly recommend her. I cannot vouch for the other staffers. In terms of the ambience the rooms are not noisy and it is certainly calming. All guest change in a his/her bathroom into robes and shoes that each guest are given. If you have to wait, the staff will give you tea or lemon water (whatever you like). There is also an opportunity for champagne from the wine list. In terms of price it's about what everyone charges without discounts or new customer discounts. For a Swedish Massage, it is $85.00. Parking is a breeze because it is locate in a shopping center. This business will always answer their phone so booking an appointment is easy too, unlike other massage places and you cannot get a live person on the phone. I had no appointment, but she told me that they accepted walk ins and I was immediately helped. The lady that did my eyebrow wax was very nice and asked me what i wanted and comprehended completely, we even held a conversation about waxing vs threading and call me racist, but whenever I go to nail salons, they usually have one designated English speakers, and the rest know just enough to get by. I requested Annie to be my nail tech based on a previous review that gave awesome feedback on her service. Annie is amazing! When I arrived, they showed me to the pedi area and gave me a beverage, shoulder heating pad, and eye heating mask to relax before she began my pedicure. She told me to take a short nap while she finish up on her client. I was so relaxed that I fell asleep with my mouth a little open LOLOL! When I woke up, she was done with my entire PEDI LOL!!!! Her customer service was very genuine and she is very sweet! My gel mani looks great. The polish is flushed back against my cuticle and the acrylic is nice, smooth, and flat! They look like my own nails. They are not bulky at all. She listened to everything I requested. Hands down the best experience I have ever had getting my nails and toes done! read more

I go to the salon with no groupon Bec the Iranian lady says she will give me that deal when I get there. When I get there for my appt ( haircut and color package on groupon $69) she looks at my long hair and tells me $35 bucks more just to cut my long hair....in my mind I'm thinking that's how much it costs at hair cuttry wtf for a full hair cut regardless the length!! I hesitated and was about to leave but I was desperate for a cut due to my pregnancy pictures that weekend! So I said fine (69+35 now). My hair was about 18 inches long and I wanted to go for a bob... So she ties my hair all together the cuts off a ponytail gives it to me and says I can donate it... I said great thanks will do that. At the end of color and cut when it comes to pay... She is ringing up the bill telling me the price out loud of charges.. ' $69 for groupon + $35 for long hair ( in my mind I'm like you didn't even do anything extras besides cut the long hair off by tieing it and one snip it was short then you colored my short hair and styled it, again I said nothing) then the nerve of her to ask me in front of another customer "do you want to give more?" I got caved in and said yes $10 bucks... Who asks for tip/ gratuity?! No shame this old Iranian lady ripping off a 37 week prego women than asking bluntly for a freaken tip and charging ridiculous amount for long hair - hair cut that she did nothing with. My hair cut is bad I have uneven areas... She told me to come back to have it fixed I never did bec I don't want to deal with her old ass at all! It's hard to completely give a review when I haven't even stepped through the door. I'm having my engagement photos done and was looking to just get a normal makeup application. I called this morning and the woman didn't seem to understand anything I was asking then just put the phone down. I could then hear her talking to other people in the background. I don't mind being put on hold or wait but just to be completely ignored like that turns me off and makes me think about the rest of my experience would be if I went there. I have had plenty of gel manicures and this is by far the WORST one I've ever received. Their was a bit of a language barrier and the nail technician did not know how to properly paint nails or understand my concerns. On top of that the girl at the front desk kept coming back and asking for me to pay because they were closing soon, which was unprofessional given that you always pay at the end of your service. I left there frustrated because my nails looked like a fifth grader painted them. I will never go back to this place again. First, I have to admit that I arrived 30 minutes before they closed. I desperately needed a mani/pedi before my trip to Florida the next day. When I walked in there were several bored technicians to my right, and none of them seemed to want to give a late service. I paid for my service in advance and the receptionist pointed to the nail polish. When she gave me the credit card receipt she turned her head, leaving me without a pen and not paying attention at all. Oh, and she was sure to mention they close at 8! I work at a spa as a receptionist and I can assure everyone that I never make clients feel like they are an inconvenience. Then I was directed to the pedicure station, which looks very nice! The guy offered me water but I didn't get the same hot pack on my shoulders like everyone else!!! That would have been so nice! I noticed when I was reading yelp reviews during my pedicure and though, ohh yeah... I forgot about that. I understand I came in late, it just would have been nice to get the full treatment considering their high prices. He did a great job shaving the dead skin off (my favorite part) and my toes look fantastic. I only wish he would have put a dry towel under my feet when he was polishing them instead of leaving the cold wet one. The leg massage felt great, pretty standard. I thanked him for staying so late as all the technicians left the facility. So it was just the two of us and we started the manicure. Kind of awkward because there wasn't any music or conversation. Maybe he couldn't understand me?? The arm and hand massage was a little aggressive but he was thorough with my nails. He paid attention to the cut I pointed out on my thumb which made me super happy! I hate when nail technicians are too rough with my fingers because they are in a rush. I tipped (generously since he stayed late for me) him before he put the polish on and my fingers look just as fantastic as my toes! He directed me to the violet lights to let my nails dry and carried all my stuff. After 5 minutes I was practically being pushed out the door. I had to use the restroom and there was only one square of toilet paper left! Fail!! When I came out he had my shoes in a bag and was ready to send me on my way. This place is so pricey. The last time I was there I got the full treatment and was offered champagne or wine. Again, I understand I came in late but I really would have appreciated a little more for my buck. I've been here many times. In the past I might have given it three stars. It is quick, convenient, easy to get an appt. I've had a decent blow out, fine mani-pedis. Lately I had been going in to have my eyelashes and brows dyed. I was a strawberry blonde child and though my hair has darkened some, my brows and lashes are still very pale. It has always gone well enough. Not great, but quick and cheap. Except last time. Three days before my huge wedding anniversary party with guests coming from around the country. The day of my actual anniversary. I told the woman, as usual, that I wanted my brows light brown and my lashes black. She asked questions about that. I clarified. She spent forever then handed me the mirror. My brows were Groucho Marx black. She had spilled black dye all over my face. I literally looked as if I had drawn my brows on with a sharpie then smeared it all over my face. I tried not to freak but told her it was unacceptable, that this was not the light brown I had asked for. She seemed confused, but said she could fix it. I wanted to believe her as I had super expensive dinner reservations that night and had to pick up my kids in less than an hour. 30 minutes later - no difference. She then put some hydrogen peroxide on my brows and said it should help. I left in a hurry because I had to get my kids, paid because I am an idiot (no tip) and spent the next three hours using dye remover to get my eyebrows to something that looked like normal human color so I could go out in public to my milestone anniversary dinner. Thankfully the dye remover also removed the dye from my face, though also much of the skin from under my brows. Seriously, it was bad enough that I would have been willing to completely shave my brows off rather than go out in public that way if the dye remover hadn't worked (after 4 applications!). I was VERY clear that my brows were to be LIGHT brown. I showed her the eyebrow pencil I used when they were not dyed. It was VERY clear that she got distracted (she was late coming in to the salon for my appt) and got confused and used the same dye on my lashes and brows. It was very clear that she didn't know how to do it well, as judged by the dye all over my face and the fact that she didn't even rinse my lashes. read more

Annie is amazing at doing gel manicures. She is careful and meticulous to make sure that you are satisfied with the color and length and shape of your nails (And I'm picky!). A gel manicure from her lasts up to 3 weeks, which makes it really worth the price. Also, Daniel did a mani-pedi for my daughter and he was fantastic. Really sweet, engaging, and he did a wonderful job. We have been getting our hair cut at Solace for years - Divo is simply the best. My daughter donated 10 inches of her hair to the Pantene Great Lengths Program that makes wigs for women and teens with cancer. Divo gave my daughter a fabulous haircut. Wouldn't think of going anywhere else. read more
