Menu has changed and there are some things on there menu that don't really tell you why is in them we could not even get a napkin

I found this place while walking around in the BoDo area of Boise about 11:30 PM on a Monday night. I had not been in Boise for almost 35 years, since I lived there for three years practicing law. The downtown, of course, was unrecognizable with all of the new trendy buildings, but it was practically deserted. And every place seemed closed. So much for Idea of a neat BoDo. The emptiness totally shocked me after all I'd heard. Finally, I asked a young guy waiting, I guess, for one of the buses from Boise's horrible public transportation system, where a guy might get something to eat. He told me that the only place he knew nearby was Solid. Solid was just a basic bar, with a typical bar menu, but I will say that my hamburger was great, and so was the beer. And what chance for food anywhere else did I have? It gets three stars for having a decent staff and actually three other patrons. read more

First of all, can I just say this place makes the best nachos in Boise. Hands down! Their drinks are great, the lighting and ambiance of the place is very cool. If you go in the summer, they sometimes have live music playing on the deck, which is cool. And it's not that distracting, annoying live music that you sometimes run into, which is nice. The cocktails are decent, but a tad overpriced for the quality. The food more than makes up for it, though. This place is great for a date night or just a fun night out with friends. Had dinner here last week. I had the The doc Hudson - beef patty, fried egg, ham, caramelized onions, with cheddar and swiss. This burger was awesome and the sweet potato fries were amazing too. My husband and I ate here last night! We arrive around 9:45pm to grab a bite before calling it a night! We sat ourselves and within a few minutes our server greeted us. She explained that it happy hour and advised appetizers were $1.00 off. My hubby ordered the chicken quesadilla and I ordered Shrimp & Grits. Our meals arrived within a reasonable amount of time. I was so excited to taste their version of one of my favorite dishes. Well......the grits arrived in a ton of oil (not butter). There was a nice gravy of bacon and chorizo topped with marinated red onions a parsley. The shrimp were a decent size. The dish would have been very good if it wasn't for the pond of oil it was drenched in! I mean I literally removed about 10 tablespoons of oil from the bowl! Once I remove the oil, I managed to eat a few more spoonfuls before I threw in the towel! I asked our server if this is how the dish is normally prepared and she said , "I don't know because I never had Shrimp & Grits!" I have not wrote a review in a long while! Mainly because I have not had anything good to write about. My husband and I were in Bodo this weekend to watch a movie at Edwards and decided to give Solid a try! I am sure glad we decide to hit this great little place up! My husband started off with one of Solids local beers from Sockeye (Dagger Falls). I thought it was neat that they had all Idaho beers on tap! I had one of their cocktails off the menu a Blueberry Mojito. The Mojito was great! I don't like beer, but Tom my husband said the beer was like hops in a glass. We got the spinach & artichoke dip to start. It was really creamy and flavorful! We could have actually used a bit more bread to have finished it up, but it was a large amount of food in the first place and we knew we shouldn't finish it if we wanted to even touch the dinner entrees. The cheerful server brought out the main course. I had the Solid Salmon and Tom had the Ribeye. The presentation was really nice! The salmon was delicious, they cooked it medium rare for me just the way I had asked! I have had bad luck in the past getting restaurants to do fish medium rare for me. Tom Really seemed to enjoy the Ribeye. I had a bite and really liked the seasoning and the creamy mashed potatoes were awesome! We did have to eat pretty quick to get to our movie! If there was anything that went wrong was that we did not leave ourselves enough time to have another one of those Blueberry Mojitos! Honestly the best dining experience in a long time! Thanks Solid! Group of 4 went out on Friday night for food and drinks. Our first experience was busy but we were easily accomidated. Patio seating fab but we were inside for cold weather. Ambiance gets 4/5 Service staff obviously new and inexperienced but friendly enough. Host seemed totally stressed and missed our open table, but the server accomodated us quickly. service gets 4/5 Chicken Nachos were mediocre at best, fish tacos were good but greasy, and pulled pork sandwhich was dry, low in flavor, and more bun than anything. Food gets a 2/5 overall. We liked the selection of local brew on tap, full bar, and tasty mixed drinks. Something to offer any adult. Second happy hour from 10pm-12am a bonus! Bar gets 5/5 read more

Stopped by there today 3/21/15 on a bike ride around Boise. Brad was our waiter and he was amazing. He suggested a lemon drop with 44 North vodka and it was incredible. I also sampled several local beers and Brad was accomodating and knowledgeable. We at the quesadilla and bread sampler. Both were brought on stone plates and the presentatio of both was beautiful The music was playing and the deck was a great place to sit. The musician was very good and made for a great atmoshpere. Give a 4 star rating for the happy hour mainly. I can't speak much to their regular lunch/dinner menu because I usually just swing by after work for drinks and bar food. Good: - Very friendly staff (The bartender Matt is amazing, he makes a mean gimlet!) - Great alcohol selection (Only bar I've ever found that serves Broker's gin) - Fried pickles are great - Cheap prices (at least during happy hour) - Clean, well-decorated environment (often have live music) Bad: - Food is good, not ohmygosh great. - ? Ok, so my husband and I read the review on this restaurant (listed above) before we went tonight and we decided to go anyway. Not a good idea. The cocktail list while interesting was very expensive. The menu listed a wide variety of choices, which made me wonder.....what is their specialty? My husband ended up ordering a Ruben sandwich which sounded good on paper but was disappointing in appearance and taste. To put it bluntly it looked and tasted like it came out of a vending machine. I opted for a burger. It was hard as a rock and the bacon that was on top tasted and had the texture like it was cooked yesterday. Almost as if it had been under a heating lamp for 8 hours. Price of food was reasonable for quality food that I didn't get. Perks wait staff was very nice. Location was great. Local beers on tap. So maybe when the weather gets warmer and we are looking for a cool patio to hang out on with a cold glass of beer this is the location. But if you are looking for a good meal.....this isn't the place to go. read more

We stumbled in here before some sort of event thingy we were going to to actually get some food, and the the full course thing with drinks, appetizers, and entrees. We started with drinks and what I'll call "roasted cheese curd with an exotic foreign sounding name I can't remember" which we really liked. Everything was pretty good and well prepared. I wish the menu had more options, that's what would stop us from coming back here again. I really do appreciate restaurateurs who work on doing a few things well, but they may have taken it to an extreme. read more

I've had lunch here, and it was good. I had a BLT with sweet potato fries, which I enjoyed. The tomato wasn't stellar, but what do you expect in January? The fries more than made up for it. I brought my boyfriend here for the first time because it's my favorite place to eat when I'm in Boise. I've never had a bad meal here. As usual, the food was great, but.. the customer service was awful. After our server, Mikeal brought us our food, he never came back to our table. He didn't check on us, refill our drinks or offer us dessert (which we planned on ordering). We were ignored for 20 minutes while he stood at the bar, talking to coworkers & dancing. He finally realized that he had forgotten about us & brought us our check. We were so irritated, we decided to just leave & get dessert somewhere else. missed happy hour, place was kinda dead, one guitar player wailed unpleasantly for 40 minutes, ordered the tacos, (fish) they were ok, cocktails were weak, server was friendly but seemed in a rush, we were not.. I had a life changing burger here. It was so good it made me think of transferring to the college in Boise from San Diego CA just so I could eat here more often. Also, the ménage a trois appetizer was amazing. I would eat here everyday, highly recommend. read more

Interesting menu, several options (worth trying) for vegetarians, which is rare in Boise. I really like their Grecian mushroom salad. The black bean focaccia burger is also a favorite and their sweet potato fries are awesome (try them with the honey mustard). Their specials are worth hearing, unlike most restaurants in the area. The Happy Hour is great and they always have good IPAs on draft (Hippie Shake, Dagger Falls). My omnivore better half also agrees that Solid is a great place to eat. read more

Solid was very good. I ordered the roasted chicken and risotto. DELISH! My mom had the ribeye which was ok... but she would have liked my dish better. The mac and cheese is the best. You must have someone in your party order the mac and cheese so you can try! Great and friendly staff. read more

I eat here regularly, as well as at many other restaurants in the valley. The "Solid Salmon" dish here is quite possibly the best not just currently in Boise, but that any restaurant in Boise has EVER done. I'm not a finicky eater, but am very conscious of what it takes to make great food, being an experienced cook myself. I can see when that effort is being made and when it is successful. This dish is a perfectly balanced plate: an excellent fresh salmon filet cooked perfectly every time I've had it; a thoughtful and expertly executed asparagus risotto; and freshly roasted seasonal veggies from local sources. Paired with a crisp local pale ale or maybe an SRV AVA White Pinot Noir, this meal is tough to beat anywhere at any price. Personal beef: It's upsetting to see reviewers give a place 1 star after one experience that probably wasn't that awful. I realize there are exceptions, but I've eaten here many times and never had less than what I would rate a 3-star experience here, and I have NEVER seen anyone else at nearby tables have what I would consider a 1-star experience. A 1-star review is unfairly harmful to a restaurant's reputation, and rarely an honest reflection on your experience. Be realistic rather than reactionary; be informative rather than make a ridiculous attempt at being entertaining. Perhaps if restaurants got to review you as a customer... ? What would they rate you? Maybe there should be a system where if you're a bad customer with a history of service conflicts and unrealistic expectations, you don't get to eat at the higher-rated restaurants? read more

Based upon reviews went to Solid with friends. Food was OK. It was early and they were out of the Cuban sandwich, bummer...I made the mistake of getting the Fish & chips. Fish was old and dry with a burnt crust. I saw another plate go to a different table and it looked the same, burnt to a crispy black. Friends had sandwiches which they liked. I would have given it 2 stars but the drink special was very good and the beer selection is great. At the end of the meal my wife asked for a box to keep her meal. When we got home, found that only a part of her meal had been placed in the box. Service so-so. On our first visit, we were turned away since we did not have a reservation. But there is an empty room of tables being unused? So strongly suggest a reservation for dinner. read more

Great place, loved the french dip sandwich, the calamari with red thai chile sauce, and this smore thing they had in their dessert menu. Service was good, food was exceptional, though the drinks were a little small for my liking I also liked the fact that they put cucumber slices in their water, which gives it a sense of uniqueness among other places. We came in after dinner at another restaurant. 5 of us in for drinks. They have some pretty different drinks on the menu which are cool to try. The drinks were fine, but one friend ordered a martini with extra olives. We got the bill and we were charged for "xtra" olives!!! Really???? That part didn't make sense. Horrible service!!! Seated us then never came back to check on us or take our order. Was hoping to grab a bite to eat before hitting a comedy show at Liquid Laughs. There was no reason for our experience as they were NOT busy or under staffed. Finally, after 20mins we walked over to the comedy club and happily spent our money with them. One of our favorite places!. Everything is good. I've had the amazing chicken and waffles, my surprisingly favorite street tacos, a few of the burgers, the steak salad, wings, BLT, corned beef and cabbage special during St Patricks Day and more. The only thing I've had that I didn't care for was the french dip. They use a cheap tasting hoagie roll. Everything else including the atmosphere, drinks, and live music is great! Patio seating during warmer weather with live music is perfect for our date nights. Good people watching too. I don't know what it is about the street tacos. It's something that took me awhile to try because I had so many favorites on the menu already, Now its my new favorite. They aren't just tacos, they are just tasty awesomeness.
