I recommend not going there! Im a pro musician and have alot of experience with repairs. I brought in an old hifi amp that I got at a swapmeet and didnt want to spend much on. First they were supposed to give me an estimate which they never did. They took forever and finally after many calls instead of an estimate, said its done and its $140. 1st is a real old scam to skip the estimate and just fix something thus forcing the sale. It may have been one loose wire. who knows? When I complained they offered to undo the repair and charge me $40. I just left the amp with them and they left a bad taste with me. Also the guy there was talking a load of BS as well. I told him Robert "Bob" Dixon of Amphole... (change the m & the p to s and its more accurate) killed my amp and wouldnt fix it., so do avoid him as well!!! This guy at Solutions says maybe he was trying to get a certain sound. Seriously! Wish I had checked out the reviews before coming here... dropped off a Marantz cassette player with minor audio damage, took them a month and a half to get it back to me. Turned it on right away and the audio had been messed up to the point of being unlistenable. Took them another three weeks to fix that one, although every time I called in they promised it would be fixed within a couple of days. I had to actually PLEAD with one of their employees for them to get started on it. Never again. read more

Can't figure Stephan (the owner, I assume) out--he stands there and rattles on all this crazy stuff about Chinese music, etc. Meanwhile a solid line of people are coming through all day long and passing over large sums of cash in return for their repaired equipment. Haven't experienced most of the problems put down by the other reviewers. YES they are NOT CHEAP, but I've never known them not to fix what they set out to fix, including some pretty oddball equipment. If the price seems too high (which it does at times, when I decided a $3 tube of epoxy was better than the $89 they wanted to fix a power cord input), take your amp/instrument/etc. somewhere else! They seem to know pretty much exactly what they are doing, a rare commodity in this day and age. Also, if you let them know you really need something for a gig, etc. they'll almost always meet the deadline. Go here if you actually want to get something fixed instead of having some meathead horse around with it. read more

i love solutions! people in the know have always and will continue to take their equipment here. stephen is brilliant and knows what hes doing, and if you dont like his stories then dont listen to them. im a little surprised by all these negative and judgemental reviews. this is los angeles!? i prefer to take my precious equipment to an eccentric genius who truly cares about his craft and music in general than to some cookiecutter workshop who just wants your money. ive walked in with a broken turntable and have had stephen repair it for free on the spot. not because im special, but because he truly cares about what he's doing. if you walk in with a bad attitude, you get what you bring! my gear is always fixed to satisfaction, on time, and reasonably priced. solutions is an institution and we should be thankful that a place like this exists! read more

Here's my experience with this place. I went in with my subwoofer which randomly died after 3 years of use (which is probably at fault). The owner speaks really good English, but as the reviewer below me stated "you are probably going to get some crazy talk from the owner who will bend your ear and test both your patience and your sanity." luckily I fed the meter and listened to his speech. After all, he does give the cheapest diagnostic fee so I figure it's worth pretending you might be interested in spending more money to 'fix your sound system so you can hear the tonight show better.' After he was done with his sales pitch, he asked me to leave the sub and call back 5 days later. I called back and got a preliminary estimate for the repair which was $250. Assuming preliminary means the price will jump a couple hundred dollars as is the case in auto repair, I could repurchase the sound system that the subwoofer came in instead of repairing it so I decided to take my subwoofer back. When I came in to take my subwoofer back he again tried to sell me on "fixing my sound system" by bringing in the rest of the system. He gave me a price to "fix my sound system" which would be $285, but I didnt ask whether that meant he was going to repair my subwoofer as well. Maybe he's a nice guy and 'the government really does not want me to be happy with my sound system' but I couldnt afford the repairs on my subwoofer so I dont know if he'd even do a good job. Therefore, he gets 3 stars from me - 2 for having a cheap diagnostic fee and 1 for speaking good English. I might go somewhere else to see if they identify a cheaper source of the problem than the one he mentioned and if so then I totally would not recommend this place. However if his diagnostic was correct than his diagnostic was way cheaper than other speaker repair places. read more

So happy Solutions! is in the neighborhood. My turntable was making a creaky-squeaky noise, and they were able to fix it quickly once the part arrived. Their rates were super reasonable, and they called me back when my player was ready to be picked up. I wish there were repair shops like this for everything! read more

I always like to support local businesses in my area. So I had brought my receiver to Solutions to get it fixed. I was told it was fixed and the owner used a small set of speakers to show me that all was working. I paid the repair bill. When I brought the unit home, the receiver did not work. I was told that maybe there was a problem with my speakers. So I checked my speakers by connecting them to a working receiver and had no problems. The speakers were and are still fine. I brought the machine back for repair and once more the owner connected the unit to some small speakers and it seemed to work. Unfortunately, another try at home and it still didn't work with any set of speakers. I brought the unit back a third time and requested that it be looked at again. After not hearing from Solutions for weeks, I followed up. I was told that there was damage that they had not noticed the first time. I was also told that parts were needed and would be ordered. They said that I would not be charged for the labor since the problem was not noticed the first time and since my original repair bill would have just been my previous charge plus the additional parts. After months of checking about my machine, I keep getting the run around. then i was told that the cost would be parts AND labor. Each time I have called, I get the same thing....parts are on order. After months, I have given up. I think I am just getting the run around. I will never return to this business. I am just calling this a bad experience that cost me $140. I got a big chuckle when I read the other reviews on Sound Solutions....yeah, the owner does go on and on about audiophile talk, his designs etc. And he does test your patience while another worker in the background was rolling their eyes. ha, ha. But....I had a pair of Tannoy 800As that needed a new tweeter....Tannoy referred me to another "reputable" repair warranty place. That company did a half ass job...repaired one tweeter and my very expensive Tannoys came back with one sounding one way...the other sounding totally different! Who the hell can mix, work on that? I know Tannoy doesn't want their high end studio monitors out there sounding like that nor would the high end repair place treat a Ed Cherney, John Porter and another respectable engineer producer that way! I contacted my Tannoy rep and he said "bring it to Sound Solutions". They were the guys. Yes.....the owner goes out talking for long, long periods of time about whatever....and yes, feed the meter before you walk into the place. But...when I got my Tannoys back...and got 'em back when they said they'd be ready. They were right! Sounded like a matching pair of expensive studio monitors. Not sure what, how they did what they did. He explained it to me inbetween the long, grueling and mind glazing story about his design on a speaker that will tell you how tall the person is singing, talking in the movie or on record. I'm bringing my Tannoys in today because my engineer inadvertently left the talkback turned up too loud while hooking it up and blew out one of the tweeters by mistake. I know I'll probably get along dissertation about something or other today.....I just ate some protein, carbs and hopefully I wont' have a low blood sugar episode on delivery of the speakers. One thing ...I know I'll get back in factory spec shape....not the cheapest place.....but, I don't know a better place in LA to get it done right. Hey...the guy's a character...so what? read more
