I'm very happy with this business in almost every way and have been a customer for about a year, but I feel compelled to write a review to warn people about the disclaimer on their website: "*SPACE SIZE APPROXIMATE: Space sizes are approximate and for comparison purposes only. Spaces may be smaller than indicated in advertising or other size indicators." The word approximate here is an exaggeration. To get a real idea of the size, knock off at least one foot from the published dimensions, e.g. a 4x4 is probably really a 3x3. I viewed a 6x10 that was really a 4x10 at best (I'm 6' tall so this is easy to see). While the disclaimer is true, it is quite misleading. Go in with a measuring tape to know what you're really paying for. This probably goes for any storage facility. read more

This may be a steep cost for some people but you are paying for the security of your belongings. You have to enter a security code to even enter the premises (Fort Knox style), enter that same code again to access the elevator, and enter the code again to exit. Loves it. This place is trash. If I could give zero stars I would. They were part of a scam with Storage Treasures and sold a locker full of garbage. When I called to work this out I was given the run around by both this facility and Storage treasures. I was told the locker contained one persons items. It contained several people's items and personal information that should not have been in the unit as it was items they put in there themselves. If I were not a honest person it could have been financially damaging to the people whose checks and personal information was put in there by the facility. Be weary doing business with them as they are like all storage companies trying to take advantage of people in desperate situations and when they fall on hard times pull the rug out from underneath you. I run an online business and get a ton of packages. My apartment turned into a nightmare warehouse and I was tripping over items to get to my bed. I had another storage unit that had 24 hour access, but it was far away and in a sketch area. I searched a couple facilities in San Francisco and decided on this for a few reasons. The main one: THEY ACCEPT PACKAGES AND PUT THEM IN YOUR UNIT. Do you get a ton of boxes? Are you sick of going to the UPS center and waiting in line? Problem solved! It's free for up to 5 packages, then I believe $20 for up to 20. It's clean. Super clean. No gross anything. They have recycling bins for cardboard. Plenty of carts for hauling your stuff. Lots of parking in a secure lot you have to enter with a private code. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is I really wish it was open later. Even until 8 would be better. It's hard for most people to make it there after getting off work at 6. Last access in is 6:45 PM. I would gladly pay a bit more for later access. read more

I'm nearing the end of my first month with Soma Self Storage. The facility is clean and secure, and prices are reasonable for the area. But what makes this review worth writing? Adrian. Twice now, the man has saved me from some major inconveniences. First time, I arrived at the facility right around closing and he helped me figure out what and where my storage unit was. Then when my helper found himself sidelined with an emergency phone call, the man helped move a few boxes too. Second time, I arrived middle of the day and forgot my storage key. Adrian kept an eye on a couple of my boxes for about an hour until I could get home and back. Good man! read more

That said, the front office of the premises is clean and well-stocked with water, coffee, and bourgeoisie magazines. The staff is polite and highly accomodating to highstrung movers. SOMA Storage is one of the most professional and secure storage places I have utilized. 5 years strong with this company and they have made everything so easy and carefree. I do not have to worry about my storage unit at all. The customer service is fabulous and facilities are always clean and hallways have plenty of lighting. The pricing however is a bit more than other places but I rather pay more for this kind of service than cheaper places where you will worry about your stuff. We stored stuff at Soma Storage for about a year, and it well exceeded our expectations for a storage place (truth be told, I associate moving and storage with crooks, but that goes way back to when I lived in Connecticut and the local U-Haul place had an identity theft ring going. But I digress). Our move out today was as smooth as flan. Kevin, the manager, had customer service skills of a concierge, hooking us up with the truck we'd reserved for less $ than we expected, helping us cut our lock because we're dumb and left the keys at home, and promising a refund for any extra days we paid for that we weren't occupying our space. The only reason I'm witholding that 5th star is due to our move-in experience not being so good. We had reserved a van, and brought some friends to help, but when we arrived, it was not there, and all the clerk behind the counter could do was say, "well, I don't know what to tell you, the van's not here, I can't give it to you." I sort of forget, but I think they made us right by paying for the Uhaul we had to get, or maybe some manager finally let us use a different vehicle. But it was a complete pain in the ass, that involved us having to stand our ground and waste our time, which made a pretty small schlep take all day. Today's experience made up for it though, the condition of our stuff being exactly like it was a year ago. The place is clean, lit, and secure. We'll use Soma Storage again for sure, if we once again outgrow our new place. read more

I was about to put my life possessions into storage. So imagine my excitement at reading reviews of other nearby storage units -- the break ins, the latrine-like conditions, the works -- things weren't looking good - maybe a neurotic like me was about to be challenged on whether I can apply a zen-like philosophy to life and just let go and give up my worldly possessions. (gulp) Then I saw Soma Self storage. After reading the reviews on Yelp, I went in and got myself a 5x5 unit. It's a testament of how comfortable I feel about having my possessions in there that I didn't give my possessions another thought once everything was stuffed in there. After telling my old roommates about it, we even decided to split and upgrade to a bigger one. Pluses: - It's clean! It's bright! It feels secure!!!! You have to key in a code specific to your unit to enter and exit the premise - Longer hours - I wish they were longer still but it's definitely a few hours longer than neighbouring storage units - Free use of a truck to move in (but you need insurance - or your friend needs to have it) - Reasonably priced - compared to the other less-savoury sounding options, I'm glad to pay my ~$160 a month for a 6x10 unit. - Parking inside the premise I'm glad to have found this place! read more

This is a really convenient, clean, well run storage business. Great location, easy parking, and very secure. I use this business to store my work belongings and I'm very thankful I was able to get into this location. I've tried a few others in the city and they don't come close in all categories. I love the friendly, helpful, and attentive staff here as well. I get a lot of packages delivered and they are always taken directly into my unit, neatly put away, without me having to be there. This is the best storage unit in the city, hands down. The team at the front desk (Melissa and Mark) were so helpful and positive, the facility is spotless - incredibly clean and tidy - and the storage units are spacious and alarmed. We came to Soma Self Storage and used a New Year special in Jan 2019 which allowed us to get a bigger storage unit. They even have a truck / van you can use for move-ins and move-outs - FOR FREE. We took the van for a day for our move out (we left town, so ended up closing our storage unit) and it was incredibly convenient to be able to have access to (otherwise we were planning to spend $100 for a cargo van from a rental car facility). I was very wary about storage facilities in the city but am so glad we ultimately decided on Soma Self Storage for our valuable item and family treasures. Thank you! read more

It feels strange to write a gushing review for a storage facility, but this place deserves it. I was a customer for 2 years, both for extra storage as a studio renter and then with all my things when I accepted a work assignment in another location. The move in process was great, the facilities are super clean, the location is very accessible & secure, and, most of all, the people are so incredibly nice and helpful. The only potential downside is the limited hours (it's not 24 hr access), but that was never a problem for me. I would use them again in a heartbeat and recommend without reservation! read more

Best spot there is . Been with them for about a year, having multiple locations I can say I had to move all my important belongings to this spot only place I feel safe. The staff here is AMAZING! They treat me with such respect and kindness for everything they do from helping me out by going up with my belongings to bringing Me boxes. Not to mention when I get a call from Nicole to let me know of my units due date. Sometimes I feel embarrassed having forgetton such an important thing but instead of making me feel such a way they are very kind. I'm sad for not been able to remember everyone's name because everyone here has been a big help. But Nicole is definitely the kindest person I met having the patients for all my concerns to be answered. I highly recommend Nicole if she is in the front tesk, guarantee every single person there will make sure you are taken care of in such a great manner. Soma Storage is the best!! They got me through my first move up to San Francisco. I used their awesome truck that was the perfect size for my one bedroom apartment. Then as a pharmaceutical rep I needed a spot to store my work marketing materials. This was back in 2009 and they were stellar because they were able to accept deliveries for me since I was busy out selling. After switching jobs I had to get rid of my unit but in 2015 I found myself needing another unit and Soma Storage was my first choice. I immediately got set up with a beautiful mansion of a unit. The units have always been clean, well lit and easy access in my work heels and dress. Everyone that works here is so nice. I literally smile and wave at the front ladies when I enter my code (even if they don't see me). They have always been so accommodating when I needed to switch units, or change my billing card or recycle stuff. Did you know they email you your receipt!? Super helpful and easy to keep track of. A clean and secure place to store your personal items. Move-in was easy as they have two different trucks that can be rented for a low rate by tenants. During my time using SOMA Storage they made it easy to downgrade unit sizes when I needed less space. In general, I appreciated that I was always able to easily communicate with someone. I debated whether to give this 4 or 5 stars. My one nitpick is that their climate-controlled level is actually not optimal for wine--it should be 56 degrees, not 66. But I checked out other storage places and most don't even offer a climate-controlled option. In all other respects, this is a great place. Clean, secure, conveniently located but most of all great customer service. I'm a new publisher and using a small unit here to store the initial stock of books from our first print run before they go off to distributors and stores. All my interactions with the staff on-site have been great and I was very impressed by the cleanliness of the facility. The office team were very good about staying in touch as I planned for getting a unit as soon as my shipment was scheduled to arrive. More important than all of that, though, is the above-and-beyond service from Adrian. Great attitude and a real concern for his customers set Soma Self-Storage head and shoulders above the competition. Our shipment of 2000 books was due to arrive and I had let him know that I would need the pallet jack. He brought it around and when the shipper arrived--alarmingly with only one guy and a rented Enterprise truck--directed the truck in safely and guided the inexperienced delivery man in getting the load to the ground without mishap. That was no small feat: the liftgate on the truck was smaller than the pallets they'd sent by several inches and there were at least two moments when Adrian's quick instructions saved a pallet from being steered off the back of the truck and crashing to the ground by that guy. Not only that, but Adrian then drove the pallet jack with my two 1500lb loads of books to the door of my unit. All this with a cheerful attitude and care for my property and the facility. Exceptional service! I highly recommend Soma Self-Storage--and I say this as the founder of the holiday of Discardia, celebrating letting go of what you no longer need, and one who is generally not in favor of storage facilities. read more

I couldn't sleep thinking about the fact that I am moving things in to SOMA storage today and didn't reserve one of their free truck/vans (because I'll need it!), so I decided to call and leave a message at 4:45am. Turns out I didn't even need to leave a message because a very nice man answered the phone, and not in the it's-4:45am-on-saturday-why-the-hell-did-you-wake-me-up? tone I was expecting! He assured me that he would put a note down and have the managers call me back as soon as they get in (@9:30am). I haven't used their storage units before, but have visited my boyfriend's unit a few times, and everything seemed secure, dry, and new. From what I could tell, their security system is extensive. Add the above to free parking, free move-in van/truck rental, and you've got yourself 5 stars. Will update once I actually have my possessions stored here! read more

If the storage unit you are looking for is safe, clean, and relatively inexpensive then this is your place! Just a heads up before you read any further - this storage facility is 7 days a week but not 24 hours a day as it may be a deal breaker. They're currently having a web special - 25% off all units for the first 4 months if you reserve online and then come in to complete the paperwork. I reserved the web special pricing for a 2x5 unit originally priced at $105 but with the special, it's only $79 per month. After reserving the price and unit online, the very next day Melissa called me to see when I'd like to come in to do the paperwork and walk me through the logistics. You'll need to bring an ID, credit card (debit won't work), and a lock. They also sell locks, boxes, and other necessities in the office. Located on the corner of 11th street and Mission street, Soma Self Storage looks very new, clean, and safe. When you first enter the office, you are greeted to your left by the front desk who are very nice. They'll ask if you want a tour of the facilities before signing the paperwork and paying. You may notice that the entire premises is recorded and the TV to the left and above the front desk shows everything live. Mauro showed us around the facilities and the storage unit that we'd end up renting. We walked through the doors to an elevator which took us to the 7th floor (highest level) and Mauro opened the storage unit for us to take a look at. We also learned that each unit is alarmed. After the tour, we went back downstairs and signed the paperwork. This takes about 5-10 minutes. The final step was assigning a personal passcode so you can use the gated door. Every time you enter the facility for your storage unit, you'll need to enter your passcode. You can also enter their limited parking spots with your passcode. Soma Self Storage is very clean and very safe with all the video cameras and passcode entry. Their employees are also very nice and accommodating. I'd recommend using them for your storage needs! Make sure to use the web special pricing on their website.
