This is my go-to go out place to eat. Food and service are always awesome. It helps that its ten minutes away. The staff are friendly and courteous. The passing of Dan really left a big void to be filled there, but they are very capable and I'm sure they'll be there for years to come. read more

While I can understand waiting in line for over an hour for a fine dining experience, neither the food, ambience or service made this place worth it. Not only is the host staff rude, but they walked around in flip flops and were chewing gum. Our "30 minute wait" turned into two hours and change. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place, at all costs. read more

A trip to Virginia is not complete without a stop at Something Different. Living in New Orleans, there is no shortage of good food that surrounds me but I will crave some of the items from Something Different year-round. My whole family is a huge fan of this restaurant and of the Gill family in general. We have been coming in since they first opened in the general store outside of town, but the new space is amazing! My siblings and I ventured in during the holidays to get our fix and check out the new surroundings. What awaited us were so many more tables and space to move around in along with a full size bar! As craft beer nuts, we were so happy to see local Virginia beers on tap and growlers to take home! As always the staff and everyone in the restaurant were so friendly and you get a real sense of home just walking in the doors. Of course the important part...the food! Delicious as always! The smokehouse in the back is constantly turning out delicious meats, the local ingredients are always the star, and love and care shines through every bite. My favorites include the tri-tip, the pulled pork, the crab cake, and the applechain hotdog (sounds weird but really good!). You really can't go wrong. If you find yourself anywhere near Urbanna, do yourself a tremendous favor and stop in. I'm sure Dan has a sample of something delicious just waiting for you! read more

What a great place to eat! Friendly atmosphere and wait staff. The food is definitely something different! The best locally smoked meats. Can't find this anywhere else. The passion is there. My wife and I ate here on a recent Friday morning. The place is very comfortable and welcoming. The wait staff are excellent. They were friendly, outgoing and efficient. The she-crab soup was ok, a bit bland but one of the wait staff passing by told me about their in-house Old Bay style seasoning and said it went well with the soup. He was correct. It added just the right amount of flavor making this dish a winner. The crab cake sandwich was excellent and went well with he homemade bun. Really good. The potato chips appeared homemade as well but were a little too oily. The potato salad was acceptable and the house salad very nice with mild jalapeño peppers. The saving grace of the charming town of Urbana is that it's a hike from everywhere - maybe just a tad too close to Richmond but rest assured, it's worth the hike and you won't be disappointed in your meal at Something Different. read more

Went for lunch I had the kickin chicken and green beans. The chicken was good with lots of favor and the green beans tasted like home cooked. For dessert I had homemade bread pudding with homemade vanilla ice cream. Desserts were awesome! Nothing like homemade warm bread pudding with vanilla ice cream melting right in the bowl. My friends and I took home a slice of buttermilk pie and the molasses gingerbread both of them were delish!! Buttermilk pie was so creamy and the crust was just right! read more

This place is awesome! Quirky and fun, with fabulous smoked food, a nice selection of craft beers, yummy homemade desserts and 'adult' ice cream (it contains alcohol). Everything Ive tried here has been wonderful, my favorite though, is the smoked brisket- easily the best Ive had since I left Texas. The she-crab soup is yummy, the hoecakes are a great fun addition, and dont forget to try the coffee - its outstanding. Yes, it can very crowded and loud here, but that is just a testament to how much folks enjoy this place. read more

My husband and I had dinner at Something Different on a Friday evening after visiting an art opening next door. My ribs were very dry although my Husband liked the brisket. The dinning room was dirty and very loud. No way to have a conversation. Our server, Maggie was very good, but it would have been nice to hear her. The place was full of children running around. After paying our server, we went to the ice cream counter for dessert. The woman at the register had a child setting on the counter with his hands in the drawer and pushing buttons. We purchased cookies for $3.31. My Husband gave her a $5 bill and I said, I have the change. I gave her a quarter, nickel, and penny. She gave my husband a dollar and change. Keep in mind this child is playing in the register the whole time. I said the change should be $2. She reached into the drawer and pulled out two nickels and shouted at me, "no you gave me this." I looked in my wallet and gave her another quarter. She refused to give us the right change and was very rude. I will never eat here again after being treated this way over some small change. I ended up paying more for the cookies than I should have and they were under baked and not even edible. The band was setting up as we left. Can't imagine what that would have done to the noise level. read more
