One of my favorite places to get dessert! I love the soft serve flavor, the toppings and of course the taiyaki. Overall, I highly recommend and would come back.
Wasn't super impressed with it but it tasted good. I was craving matcha but I also wanted to order something unique so I got the matcha-horchata swirl. I liked it but horchata definitely overpowered the matcha. The place is clean, very small, with no seating. I believe the cost was $4.80 which is fair.
The ice cream has the perfect amount of sweetness. The flavor I ordered was the UBE & BANANA PUDDING, I really enjoyed it!
My kid loved it! It was pretty cool presentation too & the ice cream is AMAZING! I'm lactose intolerant, so I just had a bite but in my kid days, I would've eaten a ton of this! I do wish they had a lactose free option - but you can still get the fish and have it stuffed with Nutella LOL. They had several flavors & a few rotational. The Tayaki fish taste like pancake kind of. We chose ours on top of the soft serve ice cream, but they will also make it where the fish acts like a cone. And you get to watch the entire process which was pretty cool. Decent price! Again, if I could eat this.... I would def go back often!
I'm a big fan of SomiSomi in Carrollton, so I was super excited to try the Katy location. My friend and I split an Ah-Boong (soft serve in a cup with a fish-shaped taiyaki on top). We got the matcha and cookies & cream swirl, which is one of my favorite combos. It was pretty busy when we went (Saturday afternoon), and there was a mix-up with our order - they accidentally gave us only cookies & cream and put fruity pebbles on top even though we didn't ask for them. We let the staff know and they were quick to fix it. Once we got the correct swirl with Oreos and matcha powder topping, it was perfect. The ice cream was smooth and flavorful, and the contrast of the warm, crispy taiyaki with the cold soft serve is just unbeatable. Despite the initial mistake, everything turned out great and I'd definitely come back! One thing to note: this location doesn't really have any seating. There are a few narrow standing counters that maybe fit ten people total, so it can get crowded inside pretty fast. It was too hot outside for us to sit and risk our ice cream melting, so just a heads up if you're planning to stay and eat there.
The soft serve here is always perfect! It's a simple a concept with just the right amount of choices for how you want your soft serve, the sauces and toppings. The people are always accommodating and helpful. If you would like to eat inside, they have tables for you to enjoy your soft serve standing, or you can sit on one of the many benches outside along the plaza. Our go-to is always Ube, and this flavor never disappoints. My husband had the Cold Brew Float and he was happy -- it's fueling him as we drive home to San Antonio right now. Somisomi is a must-visit when we're in Houston!
WOW! Can I give 6/5 stars!? This was my first time visiting Somisomi and I will be craving this from IL! This shop offers soft serve as well as "taiyaki" which has a waffle like outside, mochi like inside, and can be filled with flavors. Mouth watering yet? I ordered the Upside Down Ahboong with the matcha and ube soft serve swirled, with a smaller taiyaki filled with custard put on it. They also have optional sprinkle topping (i chose graham cracker) and a garnish (i chose macaroon cookie). The final product had the cutest look and I can vouch that it tasted even better! I also tried the horchata and Milk & Thai Tea soft serve but liked mine the most. They will rotate what flavors are swirled to keep things interesting. Either way, visit as you won't be disappointed!

Had a strong craving for something Ube flavored so I decided to pop in and get a sweet treat! It was very busy because I came on the weekend but the service was still very fast! Very very yummy and staple establishment in the Asian center of katy!
We visited on a busy Saturday night, but despite the crowd, the line moved surprisingly fast. I ordered the upside-down soft serve with matcha and milk soft serve with a Nutella filling. Unfortunately, they got the filling wrong and gave me matcha custard instead--but honestly, I didn't even mind because it was still delicious! The texture was incredibly soft and velvety, and the service was quick. Even with the mix-up, I left happy and would definitely come back to try more flavors!
I could eat soft serve all day long. We stopped by for a treat and boy was it a treat! We chose the upside down ahboong which is a cup filled with soft serve and a taiyaki fish on top. I went with cookies and cream soft serve and taiyaki with black sesame filling. I almost chose the custard filling but was concerned it might be too sweet. The gentleman behind the counter suggested black sesame instead and it was a great recommendation. The soft serve was smooth and not too sweet. The taiyaki was super crispy and the inside black sesame paired very well. Yum!
Stopped by after lunch for a quick snack and was pleasantly surprised. Despite the crowd ( considering it is Father's Day) the service was impressively fast. We received our order in under five minutes. We tried the matcha and milk swirl upside down ahboong style. The taiyaki on top was crispy and fresh. The icecream had a perfect balance of matcha and milk without being overly too sweet. We also had custard and red bean taiyaki. Both were made fresh and had the perfect crisp and chewy texture. They also had a good amount of filling. So satisfying. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.
Small dessert shop, perfect place for craving something small and sweet! Not too over powering in sweetness and service was super quick!

Absolute fave sweet spot. Line out the door but ended up being quick. Upside down is my fave! Different flavors every week. I always get the cookies and cream and Nutella fill in upside ahboog. read more
Luv me some somisomi... I have not had the ice cream but I did try the Taiyaki aka toasty waffle with tasty filling... YUM! Hot off the press is the best.. crispy outside and yummy filling on the inside.. I tired Nutella filling... winner! Service was fast and friendly... I will be back. read more

Screaming for this ice cream! The best soft severe I have ever had. Every time I am in Houston, I go almost every day. Love the classic milk flavor and even though I am lactose intolerant I will suffer every time. I like to get it in the upside down ahboong style as well. Their taiyaki is tasty and may be my favorite part. I always keep it classic and go with a custard filling. I will be thinking about SomiSomi until I can get it again! read more
I went on a Friday afternoon during, so it was pretty busy. However, the wait was definitely worth it. I got the milk & Thai tea swirl soft serve as well as some taiyaki. This combination was so creamy and not too sweet either. Everything tasted amazing. Will definitely be back for this combination before it's gone. I ordered sweet milk flavor in a gold fish-shaped waffle cone! I also had powdered Oreo cookies as a topping. The place is super busy, vibrant with the behind-the-scenes happenings. You can enjoy watching the workers making the beautiful gold fish wafers and also enjoy seeing when they're sprinkling the ice cream with lots of toppings and options they have! This place is full of families with children. A little loud but that's ok! Get ready to stand in line for a few minutes which is not bad because this gives you time to figure out what to order and to observe what other people are getting! Getting taiyaki here ended up being cheaper than getting it frozen from H-Mart. Lots of flavors/fillings to choose from. We bought a box of 10 and shared with family. Delicious! Part of a really fun strip mall with bookstore, revolving sushi, Korean corn dogs, etc. It was busy when we got there - can be difficult to find parking. Service was friendly. No really seating inside. More of a takeout spot. Would come again! read more
This is my new favorite ice cream in Houston! It's always busy in here, and it's easy to see why. The ice cream, cone, and filling are all executed flawlessly and come together for an incredible experience. They have a core set of flavors and a rotating set of swirled flavors. I've tried the strawberry guava swirl (no longer available), cookies n cream and ube swirl, and matcha and milk tea swirl (both available as of May 2023). All were incredible! Taste: Out of this world. The strawberry and guava tasted exactly like fresh fruit. The cookies n cream was mild and paired perfectly with the nutty ube. The matcha was perfectly rich and not too sweet, and the milk tea had a strong tea flavor! This was my favorite of the three, because I was so impressed with the tea flavor. Texture: I was amazed at how rich and creamy this soft serve was. In a blind taste test, I would've confused this with premium ice cream like Ben & Jerry's or Van Leeuwen. Cone: One of the best waffles I've ever had. The flavor of the cone is addicting, and the texture is perfect with the inside fluffy and the outside crunchy. And of course, the fish shape is so cute. Fillings: I've tried both red bean and custard, and I really like both of them. The custard is lighter with the consistency of whipped cream, while the red bean is very dense and filling. When I got the red bean, I felt like the cone was a second desert on its own -- get it if you're feeling extra hungry. Overall, I can see myself driving back to Katy exclusively for SomiSomi. One of our new favorite dessert places! I think at this point we've tried everything on the menu. The upside down ahboong with their delicious soft serve is a favorite 2-for-1 dessert. Their soft serve is creamy, incredibly flavorful, and has the perfect balance of sweetness when paired with the waffle cone. We also love taiyaki and it's a major plus that it's shareable. Our favorites are plain, oreo, and nutella. The wait can sometimes be pretty long because they only have a few waffle cone and taiyaki machines but it's still worth the wait. There's also plenty to see and do near the shop for you to explore while you wait. read more

Cutest fishy ice cream waffles! I also live their rotating flavors. Matcha and sesame are my favorite. Service was also great. Cashier and ice cream prepped were very friendly and helpful. May not be the best place to hang out while eating as the space is not large and no where to sit read more
SomiSomi is a great spot for dessert. I was so excited to try ah-boong here for the first time today! My boyfriend & I ordered an upside down ah-boong. We chose ube ice cream, red bean filling for our taiyaki, and Oreo & graham cracker crumbs as our toppings. It was delicious! My favorite part was the ice cream, which had a silky smooth texture. The taiyaki was soft with a slight crispiness to the outside, and the red bean filling wasn't very strong but went well with the taiyaki. If you are looking for a fun new dessert place, I would check out SomiSomi in Katy. read more
One of my favorite ice cream places in Katy. My favorite item to order is the Nutella Filled Taiyaki with any of the soft serve ice creams that they are offering at the time. Their store hours should be extended Friday and Saturday though. Twice, I have driven to Katy Chinatown, just for SomiSomi, and they have been closed. Once, I even got there at 10:30 on the dot, and the employees said they were closed. read more

Sunday afternoon Parking is... Tough It's a very packed strip and all businesses are bustling. It's Filipino soft serve. The Atmosphere is welcoming. One thing, they don't want you sitting to enjoy it. You stand at the counters they have inside. It's hard to find standing space because of how popular/busy they are. I recommend standing inside, giving this to kids and sitting on the benches outside is not a great idea. They enjoyed the toppings and flavors. It is a great quick dessert. read more
$6.45 upside down ahboong. Bf and I love the taiyakis so we were fat and got our own. You could share 1 if you aren't fatasses like us :) (also can be kind of pricey if everyone gets their own) Thai tea and cookies & cream soft serve (they had 3 weekly combos) + Taiyaki w/ taro filling (cashier suggested taro over red bean filling) - taro filling was really good! Ice cream was good but honestly couldn't taste much of the Thai tea, tasted more like cookies & cream. Even so, it was subtle and not so sweet. Matcha soft serve + Taiyaki w/ Nutella filling - I don't really like green tea but bf's ice cream was actually not bad. Not too green. He really enjoyed it. Nutella was good like always. I think I've had ube before, and that was good but also subtle. In general, their ice creams arent too sweet. Got really busy on Saturday evening even though it was cold. The cold doesn't stop ppl from eating ice cream! Very nice workers. read more
Not sure if it's just me, but they might have made the portions smaller. Plus there was less filling in my fish waffle cone. It's still delicious but smaller! - Horchata + milk tea: loving this blend! It a nice level of sweetness and mildly horchata flavored (since it's swirled with the milk tea). read more
I've been to Somi Somi for their ice cream plenty time before, but I would say that the Hot Taiyaki is more worth. I recommend trying at least once!! It's different than than the Taiyaki they give you for the ice cream because those are usually already cool in temperature. All of the ice cream flavors are great. It's really hard to choose, but you can't really go wrong with any of them. read more

Omg This tayaki place is good. The ube and Horchata swirl and seasonal Hoetteok is our favorite! I bring my daughters here as a treat and they always love it. i like the red bean, they like the custard and taro filling. Such a fun place for our family to get a treat. read more
I have been coming here since they first opened and with nothing else in this plaza. It's my cousin's and brother's favorite spot so whenever the 3 of us are in Houston together, it's a must before one of us fly out. For someone who doesn't like sweets, even my uncles, aunts, and mom enjoyed taiyaki (fish waffles) with red bean fillings. They're consistently changing their weekly swirls so sometimes we get it and sometimes we don't but a must is always matcha. Out of all the locations throughout Houston and Dallas, this is my favorite. They're always clean inside and their ice cream doesn't melt as soon as it get into your hands. They keep it nice and cold inside to try to prevent it. The staffs here are always friendly. read more

I've thought about ordering the strawberry milk before but never have. I didn't realize it came in a "Somi Somi" glass bottle, which is so cute. The strawberry milk is made with fresh strawberries, strawberry jam, strawberry puree and whole milk. Sometimes they say not to shake it, but I did so that all of the ingredients would mix. It was sweet and yummy. It's a bit of a sticker shock but worth it as I'm keeping the bottle. read more

One of my favorite places to go when I'm in KAT! Love their ice cream and boonguh-bbang that can be filled with any of their sweet fillings, but I personally recommend the red bean... I have still yet to try their strawberries n cream fresh milk and i really want to try it! Looks so yummy every time I see it! My most recent SomiSomi visit, I encountered really awesome customer service, so my update with the extra star rating is to recognize that they were so patient with me when I ordered some pastries and then added onto my order at the last minute after they had just finished making the first batch I ordered. The employees were friendly and patient. read more
anytime is somi somi time! i love taking my friends here if they've never had somi somi before and they're always impressed. this somi somi is usually pretty busy with a line out the door but for good reason! the ice cream is super creamy and not too sweet and the custard inside the taiyaki is so yummy! there aren't any tables inside but it's well lit and decorated and the wait for your ice cream shouldn't be that long. read more

I love Somi Somi! It smells so good when you step inside, since they make Taiyaki (fish shaped waffles) fresh in store. Their soft serve is not too sweet, very creamy and thick, and the flavors uniquely fun. The Ube & Matcha combo is my favorite, and it came with a mini macaron. You can also get the fresh Taiyaki and choose your filling, so yum! I love that you can pick unlimited toppings also. They also sell bottled strawberry milk with strawberry preserves, loved it. This is the place to be if you have kids, guests from out of town, or just have a sweet tooth and can't resist a good soft serve after dinner! read more

I can't imagine who dreamed this concept up, but it's delightful. Entering the building, you're greeted by the warm, sweet smell of fish-shaped waffles. Strange, yet adorable. The ordering process seems overwhelming at first, but after a few seconds gazing at the menu, it all makes sense. 1) choose your soft serve delivery method: fish cone? Bowl? Bowl topped with fish cone? 2) choose your soft serve. 3) choose a filling for your fish cone (if applicable). There are a handful of soft serve and filling options, plus about a half dozen more topping options like Oreo dust, fruity pebbles, and so on. We opted for a Nutella-filled cone, topping a cookies and cream soft serve dusted with Oreo and rainbow sprinkles. Ugh. It was unbelievable. The soft serve is so creamy and wonderful, and the warm waffle cone is equal parts adorable and delicious. There are some bar-height table ledges around the perimeter for you to stay and enjoy your sweet treats, but they're for standing only (no chairs). This is a GREAT spot for basically any group. Take your date. Take your kids. Take your parents. Take yourself. Take your friends. Take a stranger (with appropriate discretion of course). I cannot wait to go back. See you there! read more

This is a cute, welcoming dessert shop specializing in taiyaki and soft serve ice-cream. We ordered 2 taiyaki, one with custard filling and one with red bean filling, and they were both delicious! The taiyaki are freshly made to order but they're ready really fast. If you've never had taiyaki before, the pastry part tastes similar to a waffle or sweet bread/mochi mix. It was sweet but not too sweet, slightly crispy on the outside, and was just a bit chewy on the inside. The custard was similar to the filling of a vanilla eclair or cream puff, and there was a good amount of filling on both of the taiyaki. We also sampled the ube and matcha soft-serve flavors and liked both but decided against getting soft serve since it was close to dinnertime. I'd definitely get it if I visited again though! The employees were nice and patient with us. The store itself is a little small, but there's a little space to sit if you don't want to take your treat to-go. read more
I love that a lot of California chains are coming here to the greater Houston area. I wish there were more closer by me, but that's completely fine. I was super excited that they opened one here in Katy and had to try it. If you know what taiyaki is and you enjoy it, this is the perfect dessert place for you. You get to choose from a different assortment of flavors and during the holidays they have limited time only flavors. You choose if you want the soft serve in a cup with the taiyaki or in the taiyaki. You can even just get it in the cup without anything. I ordered the milk and cookie butter swirl ice cream and added graham cracker crumble on top. For my taiyaki, I ordered it on top of my soft serve with a custard filling. And you can have a macaron added too. It was not only aesthetically pleasing and gram worthy, it was absolutely delicious. The blend of the milk and cookie butter flavors was absolute perfection and just reminded me of Christmas morning. It was sweet and refreshing, definitely cooled me down! Especially in this Texas heat. The custard filled taiyaki was a perfect complement to the soft serve ice cream. I highly recommend this place if you're in the area and desire a cool and refreshing treat that'll delight anyone's taste buds. I like how the taiyaki is made fresh and you get to put what you want in it, like custard or red bean, etc. The soft serve is okay, along with the toppings that are available. I'd rather just get the taiyaki filled and eat it without ice cream, but you do you. read more
Great location! Awesome staff! Very attentive! Soft serve thy we ordered was great as always and the taiyaki was crispy and chewy perfection! We ordered 2 of the upside down soft serve. One with custard and one with red beans. My son just wanted matcha soft serve. Also we got 5 taiyaki in cheese, custard, and red bean. Amazing! Everything was great! Very instagrammable! Lol is that even a word? But everything was delicious! Be sure to stop by here on a hot day! read more
So good! This is quite a trek out of Houston but I missed SomiSomi coming from California. At SomiSomi you can basically opt to have an Ah-bong which is soft serve ice cream in a fish-shaped bread with filling (red bean vs custard vs taro vs nutella). The flavors are all unique and delicious, and I think it's now dairy free. Great instagram opportunity and really delicious. read more
I really shouldn't even be writing this review. With how packed it was last night and the never ending line, I'm sure they don't need any more reviews lol. By far one of the tastiest deserts I have had in a while! I will say though, I made the mistake of getting the handheld version instead of the cup. Next time get the cup Tim! It does start to melt fast and you will get sticky. Eat fast! Or get a cup! read more

This place is super simplistic. 6 flavors of soft serve, 4-5 filling options, and then choice of a taiyaki or the fish type of cone (soft like a waffle, pretty eggy). Easy to order, mine was ok. The vanilla custard isn't very flavorful or maybe my soft serve flavor just dominated the custard. My daughter had the cookies and cream with Nutella and loved it. Toppings are available at the end, again 6 options. And then they top it with a vanilla macaron. It was a nice shop, clean, helpful staff, but it wasn't my favorite. read more

Don't let the super long line deter you from checking this place out! The line moves fast and the service is quick!! As you wait for your order, you can watch them make cook right in front of you! The menu is simple and it labels which products have nuts or lactose. I usually get 5 red bean taiyaki due to my dairy allergies. My friends enjoyed their soft serve or ah-boong. Be careful whenever you first take a bite though! They are piping HOT! The taiyaki does melt in your mouth upon biting into it and they usually generously give a huge amount of red bean inside. So yummy! read more
