Revisited Hoodadak after many years; the menu has changed quite a bit; there's now chicken sandwiches when all there was used to be fried chicken and fries. We got the whole chicken ($30) with two sides (it's hilarious that these are called sides, it's just a small thing of pickled radish and pre-made cole slaw). We picked the soy garlic and sweet and spicy flavors; they're a little bit sweet but decent flavors. The chicken was cooked well and tender and the batter was crispy. The restaurant was completely empty besides us and it doesn't feel very Korean anymore. Service was quite minimal but it was fine for a sit down meal. Now with more Korean options in town than when Hoodadak first opened, the flavors here doesn't quite stand out amongst the crowd anymore.
Who doesn't like fried chicken? Particularly, Korean fried chicken? If you do know somebody, unfriend them. Hoodadak is part of the renaissance of Korean fried chicken here in the Houston area and Hoodadak is one of the franchises that seem to endure this niche food. When you enter the faculty, you'll notice how limited spacing is with only 4 sit down tables and a window side of booth/stools. However it is nicely decorated and set up. There is a second story but the staff said its closed due to a leak. (The cynical part of me thinks they didn't want to open the place up to save on A/C. Just wait until there's a lot of people waiting, bet they'll open up the area...). For a table of 4, we ordered a large 18 piece and a bulgogi fries. The wings were more reminiscent of regular American tasting fried chicken wings. Korean fried chicken should be more of a crispy shell rather than a crunchy batter. Unfortunately this was more closer to the crunchy part of the spectrum. Flavoring was delicious though. We're not big eaters, and we could have eaten more but we were adequately satisfied. I just find the pricing on regular good ol' fries to be outrageously overpriced at $7 for just a basket. Not to mention their sides were outrageously small. Barely feeds 2 people much less 4 people. Taste wise, chicken was decent, fries were good, but you definitely pay a premium for stuff here. At the end, it just feels like there should be more. Overall this whole experience was just 'OK'.

The grocery has a food court in the back and they are the first stop on the right. It is not super quick because they ding make them till you order them but it is well worth the wait. These are not your bar grade chicken wings. They are huge and delicious.
Been here multiple times and so far, I can say service and food is spot on reliable and consistent. Place and interior is unique and gives you an essence of being in the streets in Korea. In addition, it has an upstairs (for those who like to people watch like me haha). The flavors I enjoyed were galbi, hot, and soy garlic, and honorable mention sweet + spicy. Galbi (5/5) its slightly salty kinda reminded me of braised pork and flavorful. Hot (4.5/5) one of the best dry rubs I have tried. Savory (like chicken bouillon and heeeat goodness) . Soy garlic (5/5) a classic flavor for korean fried chicken iykyk. Tastes like how it should taste. *Pro suggestion to order a side of fries and if you feel extra, top it with bulgogi and their spicy mayo--your welcome. Fries are always flavorful and crispy!
Restaurant is located in a plaza with plenty of parking. My boyfriend and I arrived on a Thursday night and it was pretty empty with plenty of seating. We ordered the 9pc wings (flavors:sweet n spicy & hot) and mozzarella bites. The mozzarella bites came with spicy ketchup and spicy mayo. The wings were hot and crispy.
This restaurant has really come a long way in Houston! Starting as a local family owned business, I'm glad it spread to different parts of town because I absolutely love myself some Korean fried chicken! Now I've definitely tried different Korean fried chicken restaurants in Houston and this place really hits the spot! The meat is not dry, perfectly juicy, and crispy. Sometimes you go to a restaurant and the batter is too thick or the chicken is dry or the sauce just ain't right... but this place makes it just right. Don't know what to get? Try their soy garlic and honey chicken with some fries! The 8 piece combo usually fills me up well. I will eat this any day over KFC, Popeyes, or wingstop (no offense)!
I visited this location as it seemed to be pretty popular, at least in Katy. This location, in Westchase, is a narrow space in a strip center with a few other asian businesses and they have a loft area with 4 additional tables. By the register, they have a beer tap with 6 draft beers. Happy hour is at night time 7 days a week, from 7-9 Sunday and 8-10 mon-sat. I ordered the 20pc wings which comes with 2 flavors, and cole slaw or radish. I chose soy garlic and sweet spicy and pickled radish as my side (since I had already eaten cole slaw once this week). I also added the cheese corn. I would say the cheese corn is pretty standard with melted Korean cheese over frozen corn kernels, with a little seasoning on top for good measure. It's served in a mini cast iron frying pan, similar to others in town. The chicken wings were hot and crispy. I didn't care for the soy garlic. Simply because the flavor isn't pronounced. I had only noticed the soy, and barely. The sweet spicy wings were doused in the sauce quite a bit and had an obvious flavor with a hint of heat. As much as I liked the wings here. I think I still prefer my spot in spring branch. It seemed a bit more authentic. At least it was in a Korean area, at least and offered more actual Korean dishes I've never seen before. Hoodadak seemed a little mainstream to me. One thing I appreciated was the fact if you sit upstairs, there is a small table by the stairs with extra utensils and napkins. You'll still need to walk downstairs to wash your hands after eating these sticky wings, but its still good to have those items at your fingertips without walking down the stairs.
I am currently in Houston for a weekend trip and one of the locals recommended this place. So I decide to give it a try and it did not disappointttt! There is plenty of parking spaces and the decor of the place was very pop culture. Food: I got the medium 5 piece chicken strips (hot and spicy flavor) and it came with fries b it I replaced it with waffle fries for an additional $1. You get a choice of 1 sauce as well I went with ranch to be a little classic. For the side there were two choices of either radish or coleslaw. I went with the radish. Another selection that I got was the medium wings (soy garlic and original flavor). For the side, I picked coleslaw for a change. There are plenty of other options on the menu so you don't have to just stick to a certain selection. The chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. It wasn't hard to chew and very scrumptious to say the least! I def recommend. For drinks there is a half off on drinks. There is also a selection of fountain drinks or tea as well.
Just coming backing from a two week trip in Korea, I was craving some good KFC. Some friends of mine have suggested trying Hoodadak and I've had them bookmarked for the longest time. I'm not from the Cinco ranch/Katy area, but I was out there for a quick errand and decided to do take out. I ordered the small popcorn chicken for $15, in which the online ordering description says it includes 2 flavors, 1 dip, and 1 side (I chose the radish). Writing this now, I realized that I never received a dip. Looked back at the online ordering website and the dips all had additional prices. This may be something they should fix... My popcorn chicken was overall fair. Good size for a small order, could be for 2-3 people depending on your hunger level. Most of the pieces were really dry and I was disappointed with that. I did appreciate enough flavoring though. I preferred the honey flavor over the soy garlic. Their soy garlic was just a little too salty for me. I saw that they offer pa-dak and sweet onion, which I got to try in Korea, but oh man it's selling for $18?! I miss it and I know I shouldn't compare it to prices in Korea, but the price really turned me off. Even the $15 popcorn chicken was a bit on the pricier side for me. Higher prices could be a combination of the pandemic and inflation. It's tough times! I will say my experience with online ordering was easy and the food was prepared sooner than expected. The employees were friendly at pick up. No complaints there. I just suggest fixing that one glitch with the dipping sauce on their website. Overall, fair experience, but may have to try again some other time and give their wings a chance. This may be me shooting my shot, but maybe in the future Hoodadak can make some bburinkle chicken. That chicken was so good in Korea. lol

Usual restaurant wasn't open, so decided to dine at Hoodadak. Service was alright. Got the 5 wings combo (soy garlic) that included crispy fries & radish. Chicken flavor was not addicting, and I think hoodadak was better when they were located in the H-Mart cafeteria. The sampler combo is actually worth it. You can pick multiple wing flavors to try (4 flavors, 2 wings each). Came with kimchi fries that were pretty good. Fave flavors were honey garlic & galbi. Not a bad place for KFC in the Katy area, but there are better KFC options in Houston/Bellaire. read more

My friends and I came here for dinner after they reopened. The Korean fried chicken felt kind of weak. It's not as crispy or saucy like it used to be. I asked for mine to be double sauces but it didn't really feel like it was? The Cole slaw tasted really dry. Maybe we came on a bad day? The staff was alright. Typically there's a button on the table to get their attention but it doesn't look like it was working. I had to get up and get their attention. They also forgot our sides that came with the chicken combo. But they did check on us a lot and refilled our drinks consistently. The tables and chairs are the same as before. Parking is free and out front. read more

Mom visiting from oit of town wanted soy garlic wings from here. Last time she ate here was in the summer. Ordered large wings with soy garlic. The wings are terrible, smells like it was fried in really old burnt oil. Calamari and popcorn chicken smelled the same. Should've looked out for warning sign since it was completely empty when I walked in at 5:30pm Sunday. Best to go to hoodadak in Katy. I live too far away or else I would have been back to returned it. read more

Got the kimchi and bulgogi fries. The fries were very yummy. My kinda got plain tenders and fries along with a chicken sandwich and fries. Didn't get a pic of those items. My oldest did love the chicken sandwich. I was greeted upon entering the restaurant. My first time here and didn't know if we should order and have a seat. But when I asked the young lady behind the counter said we could have a seat and she would come and take our order. Very small restaurant. They sell beer and fountain drinks. They have a couple of booths that are covered on the left side as you enter. I would like to come back and try the sauced wings. read more
The best Korean fried chicken ever!! I'm so glad I live 15 minutes away because this place is definitely a favorite of mine and my boyfriends when we want fried chicken. We first found this place while running errands and wanting to go to a ramen restaurant next door. Fortunately, the ramen place had closed (on a monday at 2pm) for some reason and so we went next door to the chicken place to try it! The staff at hoodadak are very friendly and so helpful especially it being our first time. The lady at the cashier explained the menu for us and gave us suggestions on what was popular that people ordered. My favorite flavor is the dry rub Hot. The soy garlic is my boyfriend's favorite. We've gotten their pickled radish with our chicken because I love the radish (but some reason it gives me a stomach ache and the runs after every time). Their corn cheese and calamari is so yummy also! I just wish their corn cheese had some spice on it to give it a kick but that's just my personal preference! Definitely great place to get a bite while studying, or get a small group together to catch up and eat! They have a great upstairs area to sit also that's private and kind of comforting! Great food and I definitely will come back! read more

It's time to end the Hoodoo against Hoodadak and I'm doing that by writing this review. Their food was disappointing again, as it was when we ate at other locationd. We didn't like the location out of town, we didn't like the location in Katy, and this one is super tiny with a long wait time sometimes, and is super cute with some really friendly staff and lots of very attractive customers. So it's a great trendy hang out. But that's where the good stuff ends. When it comes to the actual food, then these are some of the least impressive and most overpriced Korean chicken wings you'll find. I only give it a 3 because it's so great for people watching and hanging out, and some of the people working here are super friendly. read more

This place has some bomb chicken wings. As a family of 5 with kids we got a medium order of chicken wings, soy garlic and honey garlic flavors. My kids really enjoyed them and ate up everything. The skin is so crunchy and flavorful and the chicken is juicy. We also got steamed rice, coleslaw, radish and kimchee which all complimented the wings very nicely. Will definitely come back with my family! read more

So I'm giving it three stars cause I always look at the overall of the place not just the food. The food was good but nothing out the ordinary comparing it to other Korean wings. We tried the sampler and was able to taste variety of flavors. They were good but again nothing that was to die for kind of thing. The customer service was great. The worker was nice and accommodated for our little one. Putting kimchi in the side so he can enjoy the fries. She also let us know we can sub out a flavor for original. The inside of the place could use some work. We saw bench seats torn and ripped up. The baseboard were really dirty and didn't look like it was cleaned in a while. Again if they had something more unique and a more cleaner environment I'd probably give it 4 stars. read more

I'd give this 3.5. Nothing was wrong with this place but it lacked flavor for me. The only wings that had a taste of something other than chicken was the sweet and spicy. We got the spicy fries and they were spicy but yummy. The chicken was very crispy which was great! read more

The sweet and spicy chicken was ok, and the bulgogi sandwich was decent. However, when my son said, "mom this song has cuss words in it" I lost my appetite. Sigh... Just wanted a bite to eat read more
We happened to stumble upon this place by accident. Their chicken is SO GOOD and crispy. We ordered the soy flavor wings, and I like that the sauce didn't make it soggy. We ordered the small size, and it only came with four wings. I also wish I could try their other flavors, but we just wanted to snack and try their food. The fries that came with it was a little spicy but I love that. The radish was also very good with the chicken. The place is overall very clean and neat, and the workers are very friendly. They're still a new business, so they didn't have everything on the menu yet. Some beer would be awesome with the chicken. I will definitely be back!! read more

I actually like Hoodadak a lot (only been twice) and I've been to a lot of Korean fried chicken establishments so it's a little jarring to see the differing reviews about this place in which I actually enjoy. But alas, a review is just that! Everyone's palates are different so even mine should be taken with a grain of salt. Let me tell you what's GOOD. I literally come here for two things--and call me basic--but their hot wings & truffle fries are literally high tier. I think their spicy mayo is also stellar and has just a bit more kick than that of other places and serves as an excellent condiment. There's definitely some sort of extra secret ingredient there that's not just sriracha and mayo. BACK TO THE CHICKEN. The hot wings are a dry rub & the skin is just fried to golden perfection and is so satisfyingly crispy. Did I mention that it comes out burn-your-upper-lip-piping-hot type of hot? It's made to order so sit back, have a chat, and enjoy an appetizer. We had the cheesy corn & maybe it just wasn't my thing, but it was tad bit too oily for my liking. Also if you value your stomach and time spent in the bathroom...do NOT get the Krazy Hot, like we mistakenly did. Asian hot, is not your average people hot. The original hot here is already very spicy for the typical person, so I would definitely advise against that. Ten out of ten would never order that again. (I'll have it pictured. It's much darker than the other wings.) Now for the "I Don't Care's" - Ranch 1/10. Basic. Definitely not made in house and tastes like hidden valley or something out of a bottle. I think the wings are seasoned well enough to enjoy without a dip (but that's just my opinion.) - Coleslaw was definitely lacking the dressing. Sauce it up people! 3/10 - The radish that comes as a palate cleanser or a cool down snack? 2/10, bleh. I do not care for pickled radish. - & lastly the popcorn chicken was surprisingly dry. I thought I was going to enjoy this one, but was ultimately a let down. 4/10. Again, the hot wings & the truffle fries are bomb dot com and is enough to keep me coming back. There hasn't been any other place that does their wings like them and it's certainly addicting! read more
Disappointing. Bland. The honey garlic chicken wings were bland. It was like they coated the batter on with no seasoning, fried it, and called it a day. Do not get this flavor for christ sakes. The sweet and spicy was the savior of this meal, but it was not worth it for the price. (Would've paid $7 for these 10 pieces for what its worth.) The sauce was good, but like another Yelper said, the chicken itself was bland. Don't be fooled by the pictures. This is honestly the worst KFC I've tried and would not recommend it to my friend. First time trying this place. I wanted wings figured I'd give this spot a try today. Inside is nice. Have a good ambiance and music is playing. Food: 2 out of 5 (Total $21) This low rating is based on what I had. The original wings has no flavor. The waitress said it was salt and pepper and whatever salt and pepper was used it was definitely a sprinkle. The hot was too hot. Get hot at your own risk. I was thinking it would be more of a mild based on the description from the waitress. Other than it being spicy it had no flavor. I removed the breading and ate the meat only. And for 8 wings I was given 1 ranch. Really?! You have to pay for extra. The truffle fries was okay. Not bad but not that great either. The coleslaw surprisingly was the best thing I ate out of my meal SMH. Service wasn't bad. However I didn't like the waitress coming to my table as I'm getting my cash she was trying to take the check. She did this more than once. It was annoying and I'm looking at her like what are you doing?! I will not return. My yelpers y'all can give it a try. Let me know how it turns out. read more

I ordered soy garlic and honey flavored wings with spicy fries! Both wing flavors were well seasoned with lots of sauce. The spicy fries were an appropriate level of hot as well. I definitely felt the heat and they were fried to a nice texture with a crispy outside and soft inside. No ketchup needed which was a pleasant surprise. The wings definitely had a crunch and were fairly big with juicy meat on the inside. A great Korean fried chicken place to go to if you want to have good chicken and beer with nice service. The only con is it's a little expensive. I paid around $20+ for this including the tip. read more

I got the small popcorn chicken (2 flavors, coleslaw or radish), fries and mozzarella bites. Overall, everything tasted pretty good and portions were on par with the prices. The popcorn bites weren't freshly fried hot, but they were warm-hot. The hot flavor is a dry seasoning, while the sweet and spicy is a thick seasoned glaze. The fries were yummy and well seasoned. The mozzarella bites were pretty good. They were hot but not gooey. Ketchup and a spicy creamy sauce were offered as dips. The coleslaw is very creamy. read more

Food was amazing service not so much one English speaker not a big deal but they ignored me like I was not standing there. Ambience would be amazing for a nice quick date night if they just were consistent with cleaning up, so the food will be awesome to go, but I wouldn't sit there. read more

It does seem like a flour coating so they are not. Note they do have side options like pickled daikon and cole slaw.
