Somisomi brought back memories of my mother and aunts and being with them and eating Taiyaki. I walked in and could smell the intoxication aroma of the scrumptious treat to come. The cashier greeted me with a huge smile and asked what would I like. I was overwhelmed with the choices. Taiyaki had so many selections. It could be filled with red bean, custard, or sesame. I love them all. The ice-cream choices were matcha, milk ice cream, and Ube. It was so hard to decide. However, I thought I should try something different. The cashier suggested Ube with red bean paste. IT WAS DELICIOUS . I could see myself eating them everyday. Whenever I'm in town I will definitely be back. Thank you so much Somisomi for helping me take a trip down memory lane and providing the desserts of my childhood. In 1970 you could only get these in San Francisco Japan town or Japan.!
Tried Somisomi for the first time after dinner at Mumu, and it really hit the spot. Some of us got soft serve, others got the taiyaki, and taiyaki with soft serve. Popular spot, and nice simple yet tasteful interior, including a wall for some photos around the pick up area. I tried their matcha ube soft serve, and got it in a cup since we were going to get in the car and I didn't want to risk making a mess. It didn't take too long, and price was decent in comparison to these spots. When they called my name, they asked if I wanted any toppings. I had no idea, so I got it as is, but that was a nice touch. The soft serve itself was really pretty, but flavorful wise was a bit bland. The matcha was rather subtle, but the texture was really good. It also didn't melt as easily as others I've had which was appreciative. For their taiyaki, you can pick the filling. Yum!
I have come here many times and have tried different flavors. The majority of the time I usually order the Upside Down Ahboong filled with something. On my visit last week, I ordered the Upside Down Ahboong with the Pistachio soft serve flavor, and with the black sesame filling. It was so good! The soft serve had a nice pistachio flavor to it, and the Ahboong was made perfectly with a nice soft chewiness to it. In the past, the Ube and the black sesame soft serve were my favorites. My favorite filling was the custard.
Somisomi is one of the few dessert places in this plaza that remains open past 8 pm on weekdays. I ordered the matcha soft serve with red bean taiyaki. I've been to other locations and remember the taiyaki being warm and crispy. It was crispy, but not warm on the outside. The service was quick, and facility was spacious.
Had some food next door and was so excited to see Somi Somi in the same parking lot! Service is quick but nothing compares to the waffle styled fish with filling! Young crew working there but very professional. Love it!
Walking across from chubby cattle,we've tried their ube soft serve and Taiyaki(fish waffle with filling).The soft serve is refreshing and together with the warm Taiyaki with custard filling is perfect combination for me.
Got the pistachio ube swirl with graham cracker toppings and it was good! I appreciate the ube actually tasting like it and not like taro. Pistachio didn't have an artificial flavor too.
Came in here with some friends after eating at Kura sushi next door! Collectively we ordered three milk soft serves with a nutella filled taiyaki on the top. The staff were very efficient with the preparation, our orders did not take more than 7 minutes to make. Loved how toppings were free! I had Oreo crumbs, cereal, and macaron on mine! Though Somisomi do not have a wide range of choices on the menu, this shop makes the cutest ice cream! The walls in the interior were the cutest with decorations on the walls where our ice creams could pose for a picture. However, what cost them a star was that the place could use some furniture. The shop was practically empty, so we had to stand and eat on a high table facing the wall.
Came here after our lunch. Somisomi is always a good idea! There were people inside and coming in and out. We were lucky and did not have to wait in line. We usually always come here for ice cream, but we went for their taiyaki only this time. We ordered their 5 pack deal and tried some new flavors - Oreo, cheddar, and black sesame. They were all so good! We saw they had a limited time banana pudding flavor soft serve - we will have to come back soon to try it. If you haven't tried Somisomi, you're missing out on delicious soft serve and taiyaki. Come check it out!
This place is good. Been coming here for a while. Was in town so I grabbed a matcha ah boong with a red bean taiyaki. I like how their soft serve isn't too sweet. I always add the matcha powder as well! The employees running the register were quick and friendly. Also super informative. This location is really clean but kind of empty? Not really much going inside but it doesn't matter too much because all the customers inside. Will be back soon!
The ice cream is very creamy and rich. I ordered the milk flavor. It's pretty good but it felt one note. I was hoping for more exciting toppings like macarons or cotton candy. But it was pretty limited. Only one of my kids got a topping but it was "dusted" on the ice cream vs like what's shown in their photos. The taiyaki fish was freshly made. Nice chew. I chose black sesame as my filling but it wasn't really "filled" but more like lightly lined. I wanted it to ooze with black sesame. The flavor was mild. I wanted more black sesame flavor. No chairs. Only one long table to stand next to.
Came after dinner for dessert. The place is small, clean, and standing room only. Even with a line of 5, they move fast! Taiyaki orders may take longer. I like that you can select your toppings and their desserts are not too sweet.
We come to Somi Somi everytime we come to visit our family in the Bay Area, it immediately became a must have for us! This visit we came in on a Tuesday evening and of course the line was clear out the door! The staff at this location are always extremely efficient and handle busy crowds all while still being extremely friendly and helpful to each customer. This location is very clean and has a large enough space to wait for your order even during a rush. The soft serve here is very delicious and creamy and comes with several topping options. But our go to is the fresh made to order Taiyaki with custard and Nutella filling. You can beat the fresh hot fish waffle right off the iron! My only suggestion for Somisomi is you need to open a location in Reno, NV!

If you're craving a sweet treat, this place hits the spot. My husband and I came on a weekday night. We were third in line to order and there was one person working behind the counter, taking orders AND making everything. She was totally a boss at it. Anyways, we ordered the two taiyaki (2 for $4.5) and two soft serves ($4.5 each). We considered getting one upside down Ahboong each but thought the way we ordered would be more cost effective. I had the custard filled taiyaki and the matcha soft serve. My husband got the matcha custard taiyaki and the ube/milk tea soft serve. We were both delighted with our desserts. The taiyaki pancake part was chewy like it had mochi flour in it which I thought was good. The custard wasn't too sweet either. I preferred the custard filling over the matcha custard filling. All of the soft serve flavors were good. I loved my matcha soft serve and the milk tea flavor was good too. In the future we would probably get two taiyaki and share a soft serve because we were both stuffed after eating desserts. One thing I would improve... having indoor (or outdoor) seating. There was a small bar for standing but we wanted to sit and there was nowhere to do that so we ended up eating in the car. read more

Nice employees here that were patient with our selection for the order and toppings. It's nice that the toppings are included and you can choose however many you want. The peach was a good seasonal flavor but we found the ube a tad too sweet. The taiyaki was crispy and delicious but the red bean filling was a little small. There was a long line when we went on Friday afternoon. There was one staff who was doing everything from taking orders, making taiyaki and putting ice cream and toppings. I felt bad for him but he was very efficient! I wish there were places to eat inside because the icecream started melting as soon as we stepped outside. read more
Great spot after you just filled up on sushi. Soft serve in a cup or filled in a waffle-like cone shaped like a fish or opt for a taiyaki filled with custard or other fillings like red bean. Anything with custard I'm a fan of so ordered the 2pc taiyaki: Japanese fish-shaped cake that's crispy on the outside, yet has a slight chew. Niece ordered the milk tea-flavored soft serve which did tasted just like the drink but she was eyeing my taiyaki. Both delicious. If you're a fan of matcha, you need to try SomiSomi's matcha ice cream! The texture is unbelievably creamy, and the matcha flavor is spot on--just the right balance of earthy and sweet. I had mine in the signature Ah-Boong (fish-shaped waffle cone) with custard filling, and it was perfection. Not only does it taste amazing, but it's also Instagram-worthy with its beautiful presentation. The shop itself is clean, and the staff is friendly, even when it gets busy. SOMISOMI is always good for soft serve. Milk and Milk Tea (swirl): 5/5, definitely shareable with the toppings, and we just got one cup of it. Taiyaki (red bean and black sesame): 3/5, okay here. Not bad with the ice cream, as we ate it fresh in store. Just wasn't the ideal texture/flavor. 4/5 because service was okay - One of the workers absolutely screamed the names here. SomiSomi, a flawless franchise with numerous locations, is also represented out here near the San Francisco Premium (formerly Livermore) Outlets! Sharing space with many other East Asian eateries, SomiSomi has carved itself a niche to satisfy cravings during the cold as well as hot weather. Ice cold soft serve for the hot days and warm crispy taiyaki fish shaped waffle pastries filled with delicious fillings for the cooler ones. With the variety of flavors of soft serve and taiyaki stuffings, there is something for everyone all year round! Our most recent visit was a great opportunity for us get a taste for all of their offerings. As a group, we took advantage of the bulk price for taiyaki and ordered a total of ten of them. The taiyaki flavors we ordered included matcha custard, custard, cheddar cheese, black sesame, oreo, red bean, and Nutella. The matcha custard was unique and flavorful but I think the unanimous favorite was Nutella but they all were really tasty, especially since they were freshly made. If you do choose to get the taiyaki, prepare to wait a little bit, but they're oh so worth the wait! A few of us also got the soft serve with the upside down fish cone. You also get a few topping options to bedazzle your little cold snack. The soft serve flavors are unique (sweet corn, milk tea, ube, matcha) and some of the combinations are very complementary. Give them all a taste and find your favorite! The place is small so if you're coming with a larger party, consider finding another spot (perhaps the food court across the mall) as it gets pretty packed during peak times after lunch or dinner. There aren't any seats but they do have a table meant for folks to stand and use to eat their treats. They also have a clean bathroom that is accessible should you decide to dine in and stick around. Fortunately, the staff do a great job churning the orders out and are patient to support each customer's customizations. Because of its proximity to the shopping outlets, the parking lot can get quite busy but it's typically pretty accessible (in comparison to the nightmarish lot of the outlets across the street). Overall, every SomiSomi has been really consistent and this one is no exception. The quality of food and service is great and sets the standard for shops selling similar treats. We are a fan of the franchise and hope to see more available on the east bay! read more

The black sesame filling was so rich and nutty--the only disappointment was that they skimped on both the taiyaki and the amount of filling inside. Starting today 11/1 till next Thursday 11/7, if you order Honeydew flavor Somisomi, you can get a Seventeen postcard and sticker until they run out. I tried it today and it was so refreshing . The blue and pink sprinkles is the special sprinkles for this collab. I got the matcha custard and the flavor was just right. Not too sweet. wanted to try out their new pistachio flavor they had recently just dropped. somisomi always hits with their nice, smooth, creamy ice cream. i would say the pistachio almost had no flavor whatsoever. i couldn't really pinpoint the exact flavor but it didn't really taste like pistachio. i do wanna mention i did get charged for one taiyaki for the same price as two. the girl working there was mumbling and I couldn't hear what she was saying however if i did realize that getting one taiyaki would've been the same price as two, i def would've gotten two. the taiyaki seemed really crunchy and overcooked and not as soft and fresh as it usually is. besides that, it was delicious and def would come back. read more

Two times! That is the number of times that we've visited this Somisomi in Pleasanton, CA. SomiSomi is a Korean dessert chain. They serve up some tasty taiyaki and soft serve ice cream. What is taiyaki? Taiyaki is a Japanese or Korean cake waffle cone shaped like a fish. The batter of the cake reminds me of American pancake batter. SOMISOMI has different flavors of soft serve ice cream. Not all the flavors are available every day though. So some days your favorite flavor may not be there. My favorite flavors are the Mango flavor and the Ube flavor. You can choose to only have the Taiyaki with no soft serve ice cream. The taiyaki can have one of the filling flavors available that day or you can choose to have no filling. My favorite fillings are the Nutella filling and the custard filling. Again they are not always available daily. They prepare those fish shaped waffles right in front of the customers. They pour the batter in their special waffle makers. A couple minutes later they are ready to enjoy hot and fresh! I prefer having the soft serve ice cream in a cup separate from the taiyaki. Most folks though order the taiyaki with filling plus the soft serve ice cream all together. It does make a fantastic photo opp! Whatever you choose.....you are sure to like it. Give them a try. Does not take too long to prepare your order after you place your order at the counter. Not hard to do this wrong. I've had the taiyaki (my fave is the black Sesame and the red bean) which is delicious, especially when just finished cooking and still warm. This time around I got the soft serve. The ice cream flavor was light, just fine, but the cone is so light and fluffy like a little waffle and definitely the highlight of the treat. read more

The banana milk soft serve was good, nice and creamy texture. Not as banana-y as I'd like, but it was a refreshing treat on a hot day. It was busy and loud on the weekend! For soft serve only, it was pretty quick. I'd imagine it would take longer if you're getting taiyaki or fish cones as well. read more

I got the Cookies n Cream & Ube twist in a cup, topped with graham crackers and a macaron. So creamy, not overly sweet, and the ube flavor really stands out in the best way. My partner went for the Matcha & Dulce de Leche twist, also in a cup, with graham crackers and a macaron, plus an Ahboong filled with custard on top. Everything was just perfect for a quick little treat on a warm day. They've got so many fun flavor combos, and the soft serve texture is always spot-on. Next level indulgences with superb service! Honestly, I don't know which I enjoyed more: the fantastic dessert or the sweetest interaction with the attendant! My mom and I each ordered an upside down ahboong- a cup filled with soft-serve and topped with a fish-shaped waffle filled with your choice of filling (Nutella, custard, red bean or taro). My mom ordered the cookies n cream swirled with coffee and topped with Oreo crumbles and a nutella-filled taiyaki (fish waffle). I tried their Ube topped with a custard filled taiyaki and with a blend of Oreo and biscoff crumbles (per the employees' recommendation) and both were fantastic! The deliciousness of the dessert made it a worthy experience on its own, but it was the friendly interaction with the employee that made this spot 5-star! She appeared to be the only person running the shop, but she took the time to describe the desserts and how to order, as we were unfamiliar with taiyaki and ahboong. She chatted with us about life while preparing our goodies and was unflappably patient with our many questions. Love SomiSomi! Their price is all inclusive and you're able to choose toppings at the end for "free" instead of getting up charged for each topping you choose at other ice cream stores. I appreciate that they offer "upside down" cones where they put the ice cream in a cup first and then put the waffle fish on top. This is extremely helpful for little ones since it's easier for them to hold and eat. This location in particular has ample parking and is surrounded by some of our other favorites (85 degrees and Kura sushi) which makes it a fun place to stop. Overall customer service could be a little bit better, but we still enjoy coming to this location. read more

Perfect dessert for a hot day! I appreciate them being opened until 9:30 pm since there is always a late night craving for dessert. Came here an hour before they close and there was a line of people waiting to order. Luckily, service was fairly quick and we didn't have to wait too long. I ordered the upside down ah boong with matcha and ube ice cream. The taiyaki was super crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. I actually enjoyed that more than the soft serve. No indoor seating, but there's plenty of space for you to stand and enjoy your soft serve. read more

Love visiting SomiSomi locations all around the bay, but this particular location did not give me a great experience this time around. On March 8th, 8:30ish, my family and I ordered some taiyaki. I understand it was very busy during this time, so I appreciate the workers and their hard work. My family ordered 3 red bean and 2 custard taiyaki as seen on the receipt. They were given all red bean instead. When we confronted the worker (Trav**), he insisted that the custard were there. Very hard to believe when red bean is shown in each one. Then, my separate order arrived, and one taiyaki had a hair in it. I showed this to the same worker, and without saying sorry (at least, I dont remember them saying such), he said I could have another one after a 20 minute wait. I had already waited prior for my order (not an issue), but having to wait again for a very disturbing find in my food was not expected. This kind of issue should have been addressed immediately, but like I said, it was busy, so not important enough I guess. read more

I am very disappointed in this establishment. I love coming here for their fast and kind service. But yesterday I came with my aunt(who hasn't been here for a while) and she was laughed at. First of all, the color of their Ube flavor was off, it looked more cream white. Second, when they asked my aunt for toppings she thought she would get the taiyaki first before the toppings so she asked about it first. The workers there laughed and made side comments before telling her that the toppings came before they top it with the fish. My aunt rightfully said " I don't appreciate you guys making side comments and laughing, it's been a while since I came here". They scoffed at her and continued to serve her. I normally love this place and the service is great. But that day I was not impressed and taken back by it. I understand the stress of serving large crowds but a little customer service goes a long way. I hope to try this place again. read more

My favorite thing to get is the upside down ahbong with black sesame filling! Soft serve flavors rotate every week, my favorites are ube and cookies and cream. Service is fast and friendly. This place is always busy even when it is cold outside. The only downside is that there are no tables where you can sit and eat, but there is a standing bench type of table. read more

I am such a fan of display. I absolutely love it whenever I can. I try to go here, but I always call ahead of time because they do switch their flavor so it's nice to know before I go in and have to decide. There's usually a line that is almost out the door, but it does move very fast. The only heads up is that if you're looking for these stuffed fish with no ice cream and just purely the taiyaki it's a longer wait. When I went, the weight was about 30 minutes to order those so I skipped it and just got the ice cream instead I always get the one with the ice cream and the fish on top and I do like their custard topping as well as Nutella those are probably my top favorite too. And for toppings for the ice cream it's unlimited options so i usually get a few. Love this place great for adult and kids super nice. They don't have seats inside so you will have to take it to go out but right around the corner. There are chairs to sit and eat if it's not too windy and cold. read more

Our younger daughter and I share the same love for SOMISOMI. It specializes in ah-boong - a fish-shaped waffle cone with filling and soft-serve ice cream on top. This is our go-to spot whenever we are here at the Pacific Pearl Shopping Center or at the nearby San Francisco Premium Outlets. This place is always busy but service is very efficient. Line moves quickly and the food comes out at a very reasonable time. Our favorite is the matcha soft serve which we either get in a cup or on top of a red bean-filled taiyaki. Very delicious both ways. Ube and black sesame are tied for second. It's a very small place so we always savor the treat outside the store. We always enjoy our time here. When I usually come here everything is great but in the past few days and I've had the same issue. Whenever I get an upside-down ahboong, the filling goes all throughout the fish, but my past few times I got skimped out. As a redbean and nutella lover, the lack of both in the different ahboongs I got on separate days was disheartening :( I probably got like a teaspoon of nutella and like a spec of red bean. read more

Perfect place to stop at for a sweet treat. SomiSomi is located in a plaza with many other asian restaurants but there is enough parking all around. The service is great and love how you're able to pick unlimited toppings for your soft serve. I also love how they switch up the swirl/mixed flavors frequently! My favorite swirl so far has been the ube and cookies and cream soft serve. read more
First time eating this fresh I've had the pre made ones from Costco and absolutely way better. We were greeted right away and took our order right after. I had never been there so I was a bit confused but my husband had so he walked me through it and it was kind of fun to order and then you can watch them make it. The place is small but plenty of space to sit. I will say though I thought it was a pretty decent portion that my husband had to help me eat mine, best tip I can give is to share one if you are going there after dinner. read more
