My wife and I stopped by during opening weekend and the energy was amazing--the line was out the door with everyone excited to support this new spot. I ordered the limited honeydew/taro swirl and it was incredible--refreshing, creamy, and not overly sweet. My wife went with the milk & Earl Grey swirl and absolutely loved it. Both flavors were unique and perfectly balanced. The taiyaki was warm and fluffy, the soft serve paired beautifully, and the overall vibe made the wait well worth it. Overrated like you wouldn't believe. While the ice cream does taste extremely different from what you can find in the states, it still doesn't take away from the fact that Tokyo Japan is by far more superior. I've been to Japan about five times now, and what I've learned once having returned to the states, is that most chains that claim to have that exact foodie replica, make it extremely watered down(No effort whatsoever). It always taste like I'm getting the generic version, no matter the country. Also Somisomi loves to put the smallest amounts of custard in their Taiyaki, it's almost nonexistent until you get to the very bottom. The staff here also is very incompetent and extremely rude. There is this one guy who's always at the register, he wears his lack of interest on his shoulders every visit. They also will for odd reason, purposely mess up your order, and it doesn't matter how patient and slow you try telling them, something will get messed up. There's only two items for crying out loud. Last but not least, this place doesn't take cash. I've only been to two places this entire time while living in Temecula that don't take cash, and this is one of them. After taking in Prince Sign O' The Times at the Regal Edwards Temecula IMAX, we made our way over to the new SomiSomi Soft Serve & Taiyaki that is close to the mall. SomiSomi address is: 26460 Ynez Rd. Ste B, Temecula, CA 92591-3284. I had spotted an ad on Instagram regarding SomiSomi, so I bookmarked it to stop by at a later time. Apparently, they had just opened August 29, 2025. Needless to say, the place was bustling with new customers anxious to see what SomiSomi was all about. They had a couple of tables out front, but it was standing room only when I stopped in.Maybe once the newness wears off they will offer seating. Heads up -- They do not accept cash. The staff was friendly and the Taiyaki is made fresh behind the glass partition. SomiSomi features Korean soft serve-inspired flavors such as ube, matcha, and earl grey. The soft serve is milk-based with sugar and stabilizers. It was 102 degrees outside, and it wasn't very cool inside either. Thankfully, I had a fan on hand to try and stay cool. A nice standing oscillating fan inside would be nice. My brother ordered the matcha soft serve in a cup, plain.($4.50) I decided on an upside-down ahboong with ube soft serve, coconut flakes, a tiny macaron, and Nutella filling.(6.95) You have the option to add toppings. They were offering a special on the Taiyaki for their opening. It is similar to a waffle in texture, in the shape of a fish, with a sort of vanilla custard cream filling. If you are someone that likes a lot of decadent flavor, then you will probably not enjoy this. I personally found the flavors to be rather bland, with minimal distinction of the ube or matcha flavor. I give them points for cute presentation, but that is not going to be enough to bring me back in. If you like a lightweight soft serve with just a hint of flavor, this spot is for you! The soft serve was very good, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Service was a little slow due to staffing. Even though I do understand they just opened and staff duties need to be figured out, basic cleaning of the exterior should also be a priority. There were no tables inside and only two tables outside that needed wiping down. AND there was trash everywhere. I mentioned it to the staff and was told they would tell the manager. A sweeping would have helped, but a good spray wash would be better. No one came out to take care of it while we were there. Hopefully, they will make improvements to their decor and staffing so there would be plenty of people to help with serving as well as cleaning. read more

Delicious ice cream shop! We were there for the grand opening and although the lines were long, it was worth the wait! Customer services was superb and everything tasted delicious! We had the ube/honeydew swirl and the matcha upside down ah-boong and it didn't disappoint. We loved our taiyaki, it was so good! I tried upside-down ube with red with bean filling for taiyaki for $6.95, and for my daughter, she tried upside-down ube & honeydew swirl with nutella filling for her taiyaki for $6.95. We also ordered 2 pcs. of taiyaki which is $4.95. They don't have tables and chairs inside but they have 2 sets of tables and chairs outside. I was really looking forward to visiting the Temecula location, since I've enjoyed the Irvine and Huntington Beach spots in the past. Unfortunately, I left disappointed. The waffle fish had barely any Nutella filling (just a light scrape inside), and the fish itself wasn't warm or fresh the way I've come to expect from the other locations. I love Somisomi and have been to many locations until they brought it to Temecula. The kiosk is new in the last month I've noticed helps staff be able to have people order even if there are no customers so they can get through cleaning or when busy to get through all the orders. The one thing I've debated about writing a review for several months now,is the taiyaki consistency. For a couple months recently I have ordered and noticed that when I would bite into the taiyaki it would be VERY stale to the point it would break off. It wasn't until about 1 month ago when I asked another location if that was standard for them to make fresh ones and the staff had told me it was not okay to serve stale ones they always make it there and that I should ask next time I go to make it fresh. Well that led to me noticing that they do in fact make fresh ones and will just give stale ones if you do not bring attention to it. Well, I also noticed that it is a particular staff that does not like doing it and stated that it will "melt the Nutella and takes time" to make fresh one. I timed it and took less than five minutes for a fresh one to be made. Which is same as other location in Orange County and San Diego that provide a good quality Taiyaki for customers. That same staff member was there tonight and she repeated the same thing and went to the side to complain about having to provide fresh taiyaki when she could have used that time ( over 5 minutes) to make it. I know it's a little thing but I have been so disappointed to see my taiyaki break off in so many pieces from how stale it has been. Other weekends I've been there and she is not there, there is no issue. If I can go to other locations and get fresh ones without asking why can't she provide same.
