This was my first time inside the building, which was built circa 1880, and also at a Cream Tea. It was a lovely experience! Secret Tea Room is a pop-up company that creates classic English tea party experiences. They host events at four locations - DeBary Inn and Reeves-Reed Arboretum (Summit), Morven Museum and Gardens (Princeton), and Van Vleck Gardens (Montclair). Great attention to details! Everyone loved the table settings and chinaware. The loose leaf teas were wonderful; that day, we had an apple cider, Ceylon, and green tea. Then came out the tiers. Oh, the scones! The scones are baked on premise, so they were fresh and delicious. At one point, the hosts also walked around table to table with fresh scones from the oven. It was so nice. I overheard a guest from another table joke, "Oh, you can leave the tray of 17 right here for us please. Thank you!" lol Because it's December, the DeBary Inn was decorated for the holidays with a lighted tree. Many guests took selfies in the living room/greeting area. What made the situation worse was the complete absence of staff during evening hours. With no concierge or on‑site support, there was no way to report the incident, request assistance, or ensure our safety when faced with a potentially volatile guest. Each detail has been considered and seemed intended to delight: from the whimsical portraits of famous Georges in the lobby, to the selection of French pastries and cheeses at breakfast, and the Dyson hairdryers in the guest rooms. There were fun surprises at every turn. Where else can you eat a yogurt parfait in an adorable Emma Bridgewater French pedestal bowl under a large portrait of AOC? As someone who is a big fan of sweets, I was just tickled by the sight of the colorful selection of candy in the "secret" candy closet (which although perhaps is a poorly kept secret, was a surprise to me!), as well as the Häagen-Dazs bars in the ice cream freezer. We stayed in the Harry room which was just off the library and featured a cleverly curated collage of framed photos of famous Harrys--Harry Houdini, Harriet Tubman, Debbie Harry, and some less easily identifiable Harrys, which generated conversation (was Buddy Holly's name Harry?). I understand each of the rooms is decorated similarly, each with a different name. We enjoyed tea and cake in the library at tea time. The George offers a complimentary wine service every evening with several selections of wine as well. What an experience--a solid five stars--I hope to return soon.

When I was looking for a hotel in the area I did a bit of research and learned this homewood was recently renovated. The lobby is very nice and inviting along with the light color furniture selection and window detailing in the rooms. Homewood hotels always have a more spacious layout since they include kitchens and a living room area in either a studio or bedroom format. There is also a basketball court outside, an indoor pool, and 2 pelotons in the gym (per my coworker) for those that want to remain active during their stay. There is also onsite parking which I hear costs money from other reviews and I was not told that so waiting for that bill to come through... Now for the lack of cleanliness... I walked up to my room and there were 2 lady bugs right by my room number. I walked in my room and there was one on the wall. Since ladybugs can be an infestation, I figured switching rooms would not fix this. It was also late and I didn't feel like running around town to find another place to stay. Upon settling into the room I started finding hair in various places of all color... brown, blond, black, curly, wavy, and straight. My coffee table had a sticky spot on it, clearly not wiped throughly. There were brown/black spots on the ceiling and cabinets. I found a random pair of socks in the stairwell on my last morning as I was leaving. Also the cherry on the cake... my shower took FOREVER to heat up, to the point I thought it wasn't working. I made up my mind that I would suck it up and take a cold shower then check out first thing since I was exhausted and didn't feel like getting dressed and packing. Luckily as I was rushing to take my shower it started to get a little warmer and finally on the verge of hot, so I decided to stay another night and letting it run for 10 minutes before getting in (I would be pissed at this water bill if it were my actual home). Didn't remove a star for this but I do wish there were more takeaway options for breakfast like fruit. I grabbed a yogurt which worked but maybe some hotels are not doing fresh fruit anymore to minimize waste? I'll be staying here again soon since for longer trips my coworkers and I tend to need a kitchen to cook fresh meals (I hear the knives suck and my coworker bought her own) so I'll see if I just got a bad room or if the lack of cleanliness and lady bugs is consistent....

Naturally we said yes, and were handed a little tag to hand on our windshield. At no point were we told there was a charge for parking, nor did it state as much on the aforementioned tag. Several of my friends who checked in with us had a similar experience. Even if we were appropriately informed that we would have to pay, it's nonetheless a ridiculous policy. The only time I've ever had to pay for parking at a hotel like this was in the heart of major cities such as Manhattan or Chicago, not rural New Jersey!! Considering the rooms are disproportionately expensive as it is, making guests pay for parking is corporate greed at its worst. Additionally, my wife and I left our room at 9:00am to attend a nearby wedding. We got back to the hotel around midnight, only to find that our room had not been cleaned. It was very disappointing. Lastly, a friend of hours who was also staying in the hotel had called the front desk to request extra linens. The response? "Come down and get them." Like I said, the lobby was very clean and the breakfast was great, but having to pay for parking in an area like this is ludicrous. What made it even worse was the deception.

Breakfast is served in the lobby, and while it was busy with people - the server made sure everyone had what they needed, and that everything was reloaded for service when running low. Agree that there are lots of restaurants nearby (one across the street) and I had a good stay and can recommend Fairfield Inn & Suites in Rockaway.

One of the elevators is out of order and has been for quite some time. The rooms are small and a bit cramped especially with two beds. The bathrooms are small too. The daily room service is spotty. One day the maid did not come by at all. Service at the front desk was fine. The lobby, bar area, restaurant, speakeasy, and lounge which has a co working area was really nice. There was a wedding and bar mitzvah last weekend and the hotel was pretty much booked. With the one elevator out of service checking out and getting the luggage downstairs took some time. The prices though are a bit high for a hotel with some of the amenities unavailable. We may be back next year and we will keep this hotel in mind for a future stay.

The rooms are beautifully decorated. The views are stunning. They gave a great room, library, billiards, spa, and gym. And then event space - a wedding took place while we were there. It's connected to a walking park, there is also a farm, pool, tennis courts. Some activities are included like floor Pilates and some are extra like a private nature hike, farm encounters where we fed sheep and chickens. The pool is huge with plenty of chairs and live music on select days. Note that they have a members club who get special perks that sometimes trump guest services.
