I wish I had taken "before" pictures of this pocket watch. It was badly tarnished and hadn't been wound in decades. Although this Elgin watch isn't necessarily a collector's item (there are thousands of them out there), it has sentimental value. When a family member found it and asked if I would like it, I knew I wanted it cleaned up and hoped that it could be brought back to operating condition. The masters at Soni Time polished it up and overhauled the mechanism. I've had it for a week now and it is keeping perfect time They were even able to tell me that the watch was manufactured in 1917 based upon the serial number. Cost was $175. I rarely leave a bad review for a business unless they truly deserve it. I left a message on yelp inquiring to repairing 1 watch of mine because the manufacture Tag Heuer was not accepting repairs due to Covid 19. I was contacted by the owner of Soni Time on May 23rd who advised they can repair it. So i setup a time to drop the watch off for a broken crown - this was my White Tag Heuer Formula 1. I was quoted 125 over the conversation, then learned it was 180 after the fact by verbal phone call after they disassembled. I had also figured since they were repairing this one, I would bring my Black Automatic Tag Heuer in for maintenance as I had 1 sticky button on the top right. I was then quoted under 400 over the phone and was advised the watch needed a "complete overhaul" and replacement of main spring. I authorized both watches over the phone that same day. Time goes by and I hear nothing, we are now into June and I sent message through yelp to the owner with no response. I let a week go bye and call him, the owner explains the black automatic Formula one is complete but I never authorized the white Formula 1 for the crown repair. I advised him, this was the reason I brought it to him, not the black Formula 1 and only brought the black one in since he was servicing the white one. Why would I not authorize the white one for 180? The watch I originally contacted him about to begin with? Clearly they are unorganized here but they said they would put a rush on it. I told myself, 2 more weeks of these guys and i am picking them both up regardless. I stopped into Soni on July 23rd, this was more then 2 weeks still waiting after phone call and both watches have been there since May. I was given the Black Formula 1 back but the white one was still not ready. I advised, I am just going to take both home regardless - The black one was fixed, the white one was not - The owner told me he would charge me for the white one since he ordered parts already and this cost was 180. I advised him, well ill just take my black one and since he is charging me anyway, should go ahead and just repair the white one then. I also asked for the black one, where is the used seal showing proof work was done? This is common by Tag when you send a watch in for service, they will send you back the old seal showing it was opened and serviced. The owner took offence by me accusing them of not working on it. I simply advised well, that's pretty standard and I also asked for a maintenance receipt for my records. I was provided nothing and asked to leave after being charged 475 dollars. I was going to let it go since he repaired the black one and Ill just wait for Tag to re-open servicing for the white one.... Fine.... a month goes bye and I went to wear the black automatic and it doesn't even work right. The chronograph second hand stops upon full rotation just before the 12 mark. SO, i had a watch I brought it for simple maintenance with a sticky button to a watch that now does not even work right. Unbelievable. I now have to pay another 450 to have it fixed by another professional what was.. a fully functional watch in good working order prior to even bringing it to Soni. I would have contacted them regarding the issue but I was told they do not want my business. Tips and My experience. -Get a written quote in writing. --They do not provide you with any type of paperwork upon pickup and when I asked about this, they said they do not have time. ---I asked why they do not follow up with their customers considering my watches have been there since May. I was told due to covid, everything takes longer and they do not have time to follow up with customers. ----- Another reason to get a quote in writing, I was charged 475 for what was quoted under 400 over the phone 3 months prior. these guys are seriously a joke. Do not bring your nice watches in there. Lesson learned and I am now disputing my American Express Charge because work completed has not been fulfilled and they actually broke my watch. I have never filed a dispute with Amex and have been a customer since 2003. I am confident Amex will side with me. I found Soni Time through Yelp and decided to give it a shot based on the reviews here. I haven't written reviews on Yelp before but I felt it was time to give back :) I had a very similar experience to Ron and Kevin. I brought in 3 watches, one to get the battery replaced and band adjusted (Boss), another to get the band adjusted (Seiko Kinetic) and a third to see if they could polish it (Titanium St. Moritz). The technician advised that I should not polish the titanium because it would make it look more like a stainless steel watch, so I passed on that. In the end, they adjusted both bands and replaced the battery for a total of $12, and I was in and out of the store in under 15 minutes. I was so impressed with the convenience and efficiency that I even tipped them (is that common? I dunno, but at any rate it is an indicator of my satisfaction). The battery comes with a 1 year warranty as well. When I tried to change the battery on the same watch at another jewelry store, I was told it would take 6-8 weeks and cost me $55. It has been difficult to find actual watch technicians on site, so this place was perfect for me. I haven't purchased anything from them, especially since I was taking my new purchase in to be adjusted, but I will very likely return for future repairs and purchases. Took my new watch here to get the bracelet sized. It cost me $10. The owner(?) suggested that I take 2 links out, but I thought that made it too tight (it was really hot that day and I was.. sweaty..) He put 1 link back in and then did some fine tuning of the pins/adjustments (whatever it's called..) on the clasp. I paid and left. The whole thing took maybe 10 mins max. A couple days later, I came to the conclusion that the people at Soni Time were correct, and that the watch was too loose and needed that extra link taken out. I brought it in and asked if I should pay for another sizing, but he remembered me and said to not worry about it. He took out the extra link quickly, and then went to the back room to work on another customer's watch. I tried to give some cash to the other employee there as a "thank you", but she refused it a couple times. Finally, she said that I could put it in a donation box for the handicapped. My girlfriend's quartz watch needed a new battery so we knew we'd head over to Soni Time for the battery change. We arrived at ~6:05pm, 5 minutes after they closed. The owner(?) said it was no problem and that he would change the battery for us. Thirty seconds later, a new battery was in ($7). We asked if he had a couple minutes for us to look around, and he said it was no problem. We checked out some watches she ended up buying a small Citizen quartz watch for a reasonable price. Again, he was very friendly and pleasant. He also had no problem taking out higher-end and vintage luxury watches for us to look at, for no reason other than we were talking about it (he knew we weren't going to buy it or anything). When my new watch (ETA 2824-2 movement) gets worn in I'll take it to Soni Time to get it regulated (it's running a little fast). We also plan to take my girlfriend's grandmother's vintage pocketwatch in for a service in the future. Of course, my experiences with Soni Time have been very basic (bracelet sizings, battery change, and purchase). I will definitely update this after I get some more serious work done there. I needed battery replaced in my Swiss made watch and went to this place because it had such great reviews, only to find myself disappointed with service. I was asked to pay $10 for the battery (although some say it costs $7), which is still fine, because I paid that much in the past at a different place. However, the disappointing part was that after two weeks my watch started showing time with two hour delay. I went back to double check if the battery they replaced was new, but the attendant went to consult with technician (who was sitting only few feet away) and came back saying that it might help to oil the coil and clean the watch, and it would cost $59. "It might help", what if it doesn't? The technician did not even come out to discuss this (although I could see him sitting so close). At another place I've been to, I always spoke directly with technician, so I was disappointed of being ignored this time. I said I'll take my watch to someone else and left. After two days since my last visit, the watch is showing correct time. We'll see what happens next. read more

Went to Soni Time/Jewelers for battery changes on 3 watches. They did it within half an hour, everything worked out great, they were polite with very good service. The price, though, was not as cheap as has been described. I was charged 12.50 each for 2 watches and 20 for one watch (because it was more expensive). Total 50 for 3 watches including tax. I went to Soni Time to get a ring I had in yellow gold plated with white gold. They said their plating would last over a year before it slightly might start turning yellow. Within a month the ring was fully back to yellow gold. I went back and decided to get the ring redesigned and made in white gold so that this problem would not happen again. Within 4 months the ring they designed and claimed to have made for me in white gold was yellow. When I called they said they made the ring in yellow gold and plated it with Rhodium coating. That is not what I had asked for in the first place, and they refused to remake the ring in white gold for me and also refused to give me any money back. They not only charged me for a material that I was not getting, and lied to my face, they also refused to fix the problem they created. They were incredibly unreasonable, over priced, and rude. My Tag Heuer Aquaracer needed a new battery and I took it to Jared whom I've used in the past. They told me 6-7 weeks to get it replaced and pressure tested at the cost of minimum of $70.00. Quite frankly I'm tired of paying that high price and set out on the internet to search for a "local" repair place. That's where I found Soni Time. Battery replaced and watch pressure tested in about 2 hours at the cost of $32.00. A one year battery warranty too I may add. Nice people and great service. Over the years I've taken several watches to them for repairs, some minor, some not. One was a complete overhaul on a vintage, mechanical watch. Was I happy? Yes, most definitely. Their turn around time is excellent, and many times they have been so prompt that waiting for a repair or adjustment to be performed was possible. Having one of my favorite Seiko's rebuilt here after another shop ruined the perpetual calendar. Even bought myself a present. They gave me a price no else could beat. If your used to mall kiosk or "shoe/watch repair places" You'll think the price might be high. But if you want quality work, without Michigan Ave. prices and pretense this place is great. read more

Update: I am downgrading my previous review because of an issue I had. I brought my watch in to get a non-rotating bezel swapped. The work was done quickly and looked great at first until I realized that the new bezel was not aligned properly. It was a very small difference from the original, but for a $3K+ watch these little details definitely matter. They did not offer me to correct the misalignment even though I offered to pay again (which technically I shouldn't need to do). I was told that it would be impossible to align it as precisely as the manufacturer. I personally think that it's a poor excuse. Watchmaking in general involves working with tiny parts that work together with precision. Saying that they can't get it aligned makes me doubt their skills and attention to detail and I would be hesitant to bring an expensive watch to them in the future. To their credit, the service was reasonably priced and the work was done the next day, and the misalignment is only about 1mm so you have to look closely at it to see it, however it still bothers me because it throws off the tachymeter accuracy and because it takes away from the quality of an otherwise excellent swiss watch. read more
