Sonic Drive Inn advertises on tv all over the country, so it's no surprise when it comes up in Hawaii's television market. With that said, Sonic does not have any locations in the islands, so when I have a chance, I would come over here (and Olive Garden) and just enjoy what Sonic has to offer. While Sonic is just another fast food joint, it is kind of cool to be in one of these places out here in Rapid City, SD. I had the #2 combo, which seemed decently good. The restaurant itself reminded me of what basically most fast food restaurants have. I didn't really stay long to enjoy the atmosphere that was Sonic Drive Inn, since I just ran a marathon that morning, and I wanted to hobble back to the Days Inn where I was staying, which was pretty much next door. Too bad there isn't a Sonic Drive Inn in Hawaii, otherwise, I would be all over it. The person who serviced me that fateful day was like, I wish I wasn't here right now, and I could tell it in her voice. There was plenty of parking here, since it was attached to a strip mall in the back of the restaurant, and the restaurant was sitting on the entrance @ Jackson Blvd. After taking my order, she went in the back and subsequently got scolded for using work time to text or make personal phone calls while at work. It was loud enough, so that everyone else in the restaurant at the time, started to giggle with delight. I even caught myself smirking, when I was so tired and needed some food to get me through the afternoon. I thought I would include that tn there. Other than that, I enjoyed my time here at Sonic Drive Inn and hope to see and eat more @ Sonic during my travels around the USA. It's been fun though. Overall, this place is pretty average, but of course, that's what I said about McDonald's and Burger King. Made in the USA! B+

A female employee with dark hair that works the evenings was very rude and disrespectful when I went through the drive thru.

I think this must be a family owned place, because at some point, I saw a 13 year old (ish) boy clearing tables and handing out candy at the tables. We were sitting for quite a while before anyone noticed us and brought menus. But once we did get the attention of our waitress, she was very nice. There's a kids menu with the typical offerings. They mostly have the standard beers and a handful of local offerings. I had the hazy pineapple beer, and it was okay. My husband tried a local IPA, and he liked it. I had the fried shrimp and the housemade potato chips. They make their own chips (good, although unevenly salted) and they come with a delicious french onion dip, just like the stuff I remember from childhood. My husband and I couldn't get enough. The menu is otherwise pretty burger-based, but that's fine for a setting like this. They have a pool table that takes quarters. That kept the kids occupied while the adults were able to watch some of the March Madness fun.

We started our evening at Sear Steakhouse with some excellent drinks. The thyme mocktail was crisp…read moreand refreshing, and my husband's old-fashioned was fragrant and well-balanced, complete with a perfect bada bing cherry. His only note was a preference for a single large ice cube rather than crushed, but overall the bar clearly knows what it's doing. The appetizers set a great tone. Warm sourdough was fresh and comforting. I enjoyed the bright, crisp house salad, while my husband's pumpkin soup was silky, savory, and perfectly seasonal. We both ordered the 7-ounce filet mignon, and the kitchen truly delivered! His medium-rare was tender and juicy with a beautiful sear, and my medium-well was still succulent--proof of precise cooking. They have an outstanding variety of cool, reasonably priced side dishes. My husband was excited about the Queen's honey carrots which were tender and flavorful (though the honey glaze was very subtle) and the creamy mashed potatoes that are part of the steak dish, were nicely executed. I didn't realize my filet came with mashed potatoes underneath, so I ordered a loaded, baked potato as my side, and ended up with extra potato (which I'm not complaining about whatsoever lol). We also enjoyed the whiskey cream sauce with mushrooms, which added a gentle smoky creamy richness, and the onion soubise, which was pure sweet comfort. Dessert was a highlight, as we celebrated my husband's birthday - we ordered all three featured desserts: The crème brûlée had a perfectly crackled top and smooth vanilla bean custard, the flourless chocolate dessert was deeply rich with espresso notes, and the butter cake was the total star - warm, moist, and decadently buttery. Each dessert was excellent in its own way, but that perfectly sinful butter cake stole the show! The atmosphere was inviting--warm wood tones, comfortable booths, well-balanced lighting, and enough TVs near the bar to keep my sports fan husband happy. Service was friendly and pleasant, though we found ourselves wishing for a bit more attentiveness. With a very quiet dining room, very early in the evening (we had a 4 PM reservation), there were moments when water refills lagged and opportunities for wine suggestions went unoffered (and we were definitely wanting to order some red with our steaks, but gave up because by the time there was an opportunity, we were finished with our steaks). We also briefly looked into the small private dining room on our way through the bar, and while we were greeted politely by one of the employees who was sitting in there, it felt like they missed the perfect opportunity to highlight the space for potential events. That said, nothing detracted significantly from the experience--it was simply a matter of polish. A touch more proactive engagement could elevate an already strong offering into something exceptional. Overall, Sear Steakhouse delivered an enjoyable and memorable evening. The food, drinks, and desserts are clearly strengths, and with just a little added focus on service flow and guest engagement, this restaurant has all the makings of a true standout in Rapid City. We look forward to returning and trying new things!

I'm really torn on this review because I've only been to Sear Steakhouse twice, and the experiences…read morewere completely different. The first visit was for a work event in the back room (not sure if that made a difference), and it was outstanding. The food was cooked to perfection--my steak literally melted in my mouth, and the sides were hot and delicious. I couldn't stop raving about it afterward. The second visit, after talking it up to my family, was a letdown. They were busy, and maybe that played a role, but it just wasn't the same. My steak was mediocre, and my husband was genuinely confused why I had claimed it was one of the best steaks I'd had in a long time. Unfortunately, when it comes to restaurants, the bad tends to outweigh the good. We haven't been back, and I can't justify the price tag when there are other great steak options in town. I know places can have off days, and maybe that's what happened--but I'm not willing to return to find out.

Decent amount of filling. Main complaint is that it is billed w Reuben filling but very little corned beef -- a few diced pieces and some halves seemed to have none. For wings you get 8 traditional or 19 bonus per order. I got the traditional with watermelon jalapeño wet sauce. You get 8 nice plump drums and the sauce is sticky and sweet but not too sweet and spicy but not too spicy. Cant really detect a distinct watermelon flavor. Still good.

We went inside and while there were tables available, many were still dirty and stayed that way during the duration of our meal. Not a great look for the restaurant. We started the fancy fried pickles and chislic. The fried pickles were different with the prosciutto and mozzarella cheese, but we still enjoyed them. The chislic was tough/chewy and not as good as Thirsty's next door. My husband and I split the buffalo meatloaf. The meatloaf was dry, but I enjoyed the overall flavor. Overall, I was not impressed with this restaurant and was disappointed with service and how the meals were cooked at Murphy's. We just had better food during our trip, so it's hard to recommend this one.

This restaurant was one I found during a trip to Rapid City, SD and through YELP, so shout out to…read moreYELP. This is very much a diner style restaurant in the very best sense of the word, "DINER." The night I dined here, it was somewhat after the usual dinner rush, so the crowds were gone and the hostess led me to a corner booth near the back of the restaurant and handed me a menu. Like many diners you may have eaten at, the menu at COLONIAL HOUSE is huge. As I get older, huge menus are becoming more intimidating because they offer a large volume of selections that you have to choose from while a server is waiting (sometimes not all that patiently). That having been said, there is enough variety on the menu here that if you can't find something you'd like, you are probably a very picky eater. One surprise and also an intimidating one was the humongous portions that are delivered when your plate arrives. I knew immediately that I would not be able to finish the meal and resolved not to try and ask for a take-out box once I ate what I could finish. My dinner (what I managed to eat was excellent) and the server had no problem providing me with a take-out box. The food kept well in my hotel's room fridge and reheated well the next day for lunch. The baked products at COLONIAL HOUSE were a feast for the eyes and I ordered a piece of strawberry shortcake to take with me back to my hotel. Mouthwatering delight! If you are visiting Rapid City and want to completely SKIP over the far too numerous chain restaurants in the area and get far better food brought to you by servers who actually seem to like their jobs and the reputation of their employer, look no further than COLONIAL HOUSE. Just make sure you come with a completely empty stomach and a big appetite.
