My husband and I love Sonic! We always make it a point to drop in when we head south from the Bay Area. Today, a car-hop named Isaiah gave us our food and he was the most friendliest I've ever met. Rolled up to the car and introduced himself with a great smile. Repeated our order. Made sure we had everything we need. In fact, he came prepared in case we would need any extra sauces. Unless you like waiting a very long time for your order, stay far away from the stalls. Seems they give priority attention to the drive thru but not so much to the stalls. They don't offer any condiments and don't give napkins as a standard. Two hotdogs and two drinks took 30 minutes to receive. I almost asked for my money back so I can go across the street to Carl's Jr which I know will treat me better. I have but three complaints about my visit. The cheeseburger, which they call a quarter pound was mostly sauce with meat burned so it was almost as thin as a sheet of paper. My milkshake was one third whipped cream. The car stalls were closed since only one hop was working and on a break. Which reminds me of the only reason I like it. Don't Bother - really a bad experience. Save your money & go elsewhere. Went here and pulled into the parking spot overlooking Davis. Why this was located in the KMart parking lot is beyond me but hadn't been to a Sonic since we were in Arizona a couple years back on vacation. Speakers were okay but the person taking the order knew nothing about the Sunday special. Two of us ordered chili dogs, a corn dog, fries and soft drink. Food came separately in little bags not all put together, the fries weren't with the order, the chili was on the bun under the frank - couldn't even see it. Told the server who told us that's how a chili dog is made. Really??? Sent them back to be redone. Chili could be out of a can - and not very generous & I have eaten chili dogs all over the US. No tray at the window - why else do I need a carhop if you aren't going to do this 50's style? Food was not very good - no better than Der Weinerschnitzel and the corn dog was okay. Not a great value except for the opening special. Have not been back & not sure we plan to go again. Drove by the other day and their business is way off - a sure sign that others agree; this isn't up to the standards of other Sonics, nor other fast food joints either. I don't want to come here and order food to be eaten on my lap - I want a tray for window car service, or else I'd be sitting outside for the 10 days a year when it's sunny in Salinas and not blowing hair in my mouth. Unless many changes are made, this place will close up; then we can hope that something better - Ruby Tuesday or Red Robin - will come to town. read more

Do NOT eat here. I have given this location a lot of chances over more than a year, the final straw was when they gave me tainted food and messed up my order at the same time. I noticed they had given me the wrong side with my meal and was at first upset about that, that was until i tried my drink and noticed a taste that tasted a bit like some kind of cleaning product after a sip or two. I started to feel sick so i poured the cup out to discover that there was some form of brown slimy chunks that where either on top or the bottem of my coke, they where almost the size of a dime and had a almost meaty texture. Worst experience ever! Extremely long wait. I had to repeat my order multiple times. After every item she needed a moment to figure it out. She didn't go over my order before we left the order window. Waited a long time. Then before we got up to the window, someone came out to get our card payment and deliver the food to speed it up. They said they were out or receipt paper so never received a copy of what was charged. Was told one amount after ordering then charged a different amount which was correct total. Never had their burgers before. We went the first week they were open. Waited 30 minutes in the long drive thru line. The burger was dried out. Put together sloppy. McDonald's taste better than this place and a lot cheaper. You would think a new place would want to get it right because word of mouth gets around quickly. Went back 3 weeks later to try their hot dogs. Only 3 cars in drive thru line. They never have a long line anymore even at lunch time. So word must have gotten out. So places never learn. Employees are mentally challenge and don't have the skills to do the job.The one taking the order tried to charge $2.89 for mini tater tots that are $1.59 didn't understand what was wrong. It took 4 minutes to get the right price. (I should have left.) I also order an all american hot dog, with mustard, relish, and onions (I did not say ketchup). It came with ketchup. They brought me another one without ketchup, it was cold. HOT DOG & BUN straight from fridge. When I question them about coldness of the hot dog, they said the condiments made it cold (no response to why center of hot dog was cold). They brought out a third hot dog. Before I even took it, I ask if there was ketchup on it. YES THERE WAS. I was ask if I would like a replacement hot dog or my money back. I choose a refund and ask if I could get it in less than 5 minutes? She then ask me again if I wanted a refund or a hot dog? I requested a refund in less than 5 minutes. She ask same ? and I responded the same. Finally I said go get my refund and stop asking the same ? I have not changed my mind. After 5 minutes and not getting my refund, I left. I also left the cold hot dog and trash in the car space. SO, IF YOU ARE NOT IN A HURRY AND DON'T MIND BEING OVERCHARGE, OR FOOD TEMPERATURE IS UNIMPORTANT THEN SONIC IS YOUR PLACE. read more

We waited and waited and "Adriah" (the person that the screen said was coming out) never came out. I went to sonic in salinas for the first time and it was not a good experience off the bat. First off, the people who direct the lines have no idea what they are doing, they don't know how to safely guide traffic. Then when we got in a stall and pressed the button and it took 10 minutes for them to respond. After that when the server brought us our orders they messed up two of our hot dogs and gave us 6 inchers instead of footlongs. After we gave them our orders back they brought us what we asked they messed up again and didn't give us the pretzel dog we ordered, and this whole time we saw two waiters fall on their skates. We drove into the place and thought we entered a monster truck Talley because of the speed bumps. We parked and ordered our food when the food came we wanted out tray on the window and he said " I don't know how to do that". And I pointed to the hooks but his tray was missing one. Mmmm slushes are the best, food is ok. Here is the problem. This place doesn't have competent management. This is our 3rd time here this week. The first time we visited, the slushy machine was out of order, but that wasn't the problem. We waited in line for 31 minutes. When we got to the order station we where told the machine was out of order. WOW! How about a sign on the easel or on the window. Ok, the second time the service was just horrific the manager didn't care, they where over whelmed. The last visit we made we waited in a stalls for over 8 min. Before we where told they where not taking orders at the stalls. The place look dirty. If you get out of your car and walk up to the kitchen you will not buy any food there is you saw the mess and the food that they walk on. I am surprised the health dept hasn't fined them or put them on report. I visit Sonic restaurant every Chance I get, but this one in Salinas by far is the worst one of hen all. Employees are not courteous and thoughtful and the location quite frankly looks a mess. The general manager of the store in the franchisee need to take control of this restaurant. read more

I ordered the double cheeseburger, fries and a Strawberry-something-or-other drink to go. - Immediately upon leaving the parking lot I ate a couple of fries. They were terrible. They were barely warm and were definitely Old. - When I arrived home a few minutes later, I ate the double cheeseburger and found it tasted pretty good! -- The Strawberry drink I ordered was... odd. Service is VERY SLOW here. I ordered 2 slush drinks and waited for 24 mins, WOW!!! It wasn't even busy either. I understand if I had ordered food, but I didn't order food, just 2 drinks. I guess the Happy Hour price = to really slow service here!! I had to question 2 employees when my order was going to be ready. Apparently my order was forgotten so they quickly made my drinks. WOW!! SLOW SERVICE HERE!!! If I had not said anything to them, who knows how long I would have waited. I'm not sure if I want to come back. Another note: By me pressing the "RED" service button to order at the menu - you would think someone will answer & take your order. No one answered so I told one staff that nobody is answering to take my order. He insisted that I press the button & somebody will be with me in a moment. I waited, and waited then I pressed the button again and again hoping somebody would pick up. I don't think the button even works and the only way staff knows a customer wants to order is if they pay attention to the menu board when the customers come up in person (just as I did) to order.
