Walked up to place our order the tables outside hadn't been cleaned. The concrete was stained and looked gross. The glass doors to the restaurant were full of hand prints. The bathroom was disgusting. Employees actually use that bathroom and return to work. It really makes me wonder what the kitchen area looks like. Check out under the drive through window. This place would be great if they just had drinks! We loved our slushes!!! Their food unfortunately really is rather bad. Like my chicken bites were swimming in buckets of sauce. It was to a point where I was rubbing them on the *bag to get some off to eat it. Finally I just had to take the breading off until I finally gave up and threw them away. They also didn't put cheese on my daughters meatless cheeseburger.... yep, we got the sauce and veggies not cheese. And the fries... let just say I don't think there is much worse then cold french fries. The good: The people who helped us though were nice. The bad: The food Will I go again? This location just plain sucks. We have tried it out a few times and it always lets us down. Drive thru has been decent but parking in the stalls and waiting for food is a joke. Tonight we ordered 3 milk shakes, 1 custard drink, 1 master blaster and 1 chicken strips meal box. Almost everything was either melted or made wrong once we got it. Keep in mind, we waited a very long time. The people working there seem like young "I don't give a crap" people. Also, fair heads up, when you pay with card at the drive thru window, they always "need to take it to swipe it at another working machin" and it's out of sight for a while. Always seems odd, I usually move the vehicle so that I can watch them. Stink that my kids like their shakes or I'd be fine never returning here. Even when you speak clearly to the drive thru employee she can't comprehend ANYTHING. So unprofessional it's ridiculous. Gets you so frustrated you almost want to cancel your order. to the employees if you mess up.. you don't reply with "my bad"... sloppiest drive thru. read more

Three things to mention here. 1st: The food was not very good, which is not so bad in itself. We waited for 35 minutes before giving up on getting our order. We asked three times about our order and the only response was how they are short staffed. No one came out to let us know why the delay or if they had forgotten us. Asked to speak to a manager and we were not given a response. First of all I love Sonic and still eat at Sonic in Gilroy and Las Vegas. It's just the Salinas branch that isn't managed well. This is only a drive-through (at 12:30pm on a Wednesday afternoon). The park and order option is not available. The line for the drive through is ridiculously slow for food that is only mediocre at best. Bathrooms out of order. Currently regretting our decision to stop here instead of Carl's Jr. across the street. We'll have to go there anyway to use the bathroom. And they have decent food. Lesson learned. read more

got a slush with my boyfriend and halfway through our drink my boyfriend finds a piece of plastic fork in his drink!!! This is our second time coming here but after finding a piece of plastic fork I don't know if we'll be coming back because we come here for the slush. read more

STAY AWAY!!!!! 1 star is even generous. By far the worst experience I have ever had at a Sonic or any other fast food for that matter! It took 30 minutes in the drive thru with only 2 cars ahead of us and only 1 car in the drive in bays. We had to repeat the order at least 4 times then they had a good 3-4 minute pause before confirming. Then they still messed up 2 out of 3 orders. One by giving us a grilled chicken instead of a grilled cheese even after they repeated it correctly, finally. Then when they took it back they just took the chicken off and slapped 2 pieces of cold cheese in the middle. Seriously cold. I tried to order a strawberry cream slush (which I have been getting from Sonic for like 20 years) and they had no clue what I was talking about so I ordered a shake. They said they didn't have shakes at the moment. But they had blasts. It's the same ingredients! Just stirred together! I went on a road trip and we needed a late dinner. The drive through was really long so we pulled to one of the lit up parking spots where they bring it it to you. After deciding what to get, my bf pushed the button to order. The guy said you can't order from the parking spots. Ok, then why the heck do you still have all of the menu signs lit up? Turn those off then we would know to go right to the drive through!! Other people were doing the same thing as us. My bf was frustrated so we ended up going to some other nasty fast food place. Long time resident of Salinas here, so when a new place opens up everyone is thrilled as it doesn't happen often. Sonic opened up a few months ago and I wanted to wait until the "newness" wore off before I gave it a try. Well, I should have never even tried it. What a waste of $15 for 2 Chicago Dogs, a lime slush and a Dr. Pepper. I had heard good things from my friends around the country that their Chicago Dogs were awesome, well not this Sonic. I've had better Chicago Dogs from the corner vendor on Sanborn and Market St. Now THAT guy knows how to make a hot dog. Anyway, the 2 stars are for the young man who explained how to order and how fast we got our food. The lime in the lime slush was fresh. The hot dog was puny and cold. No flavor. Unless I hear that they have improved, I won't return until I need a slush...they did have a nice selection of flavors. *sigh* Another Salinas restaurant bites the dust. read more

Drove up to the parking spot, picked out what I wanted to order, pressed the red button. Got the quietest response. Had to ask the woman three times to repeat herself and finally made out that she said "drive thru only". So I drove around again and got in line. Once I got my food I drove back to my parking spot to dig in. My cheeseburger was freezing cold. The hot dog bun was almost hard as a rock. The fries had no taste. Then I tried my buttered toffee shake. Oh my god I almost threw up. It tasted like soap and chemicals!!! I pressed the red button and told the woman I would love to be able to switch my shake for a different flavor since mine tasted like chemicals. At first she flat out told me no. Then finally told me come to the door and we can talk. I walk to the door thinking I was going to speak with the manager. Nope, still trying to deal with employees who have no idea what to do in this situation because THEY AREN'T MANAGERS. I still have no idea why the manager wouldn't speak to me. So the employee was very nice and told me "I would totally make you a new shake with any flavor you want but my manager doesn't want me to. I can make you another shake with the same flavor?" No apology. No "hey sorry someone dropped chemicals inside your drink". Not even a freaking refund for making me sick to my stomach. I'm sorry Sonic, you lost a customer for life. Sonic is an awesome restaurant. If you go through drive thru and they can't hear don't get mad cause it's not their fault the headsets signal cuts off. The food takes long because it is made to order. Its always fresh. Its not the workers fault. Had lunch today, asked for no Ceasar on my sandwich and when they put Ceasars on it I told them I asked for no Ceasar and Joann told me I was wrong and I didn't tell her no ceasar. I went there two times after they first opened for their chocolate malts, which I initially thought were great. Last two times I have been there the ingredients where not mixed- in essence you had separate chocolate, malt and ice cream totally unblended- and believe me- malt unmixed sucks and then you hit chocolate that was pure syrup. I am not a picky eater but this last one was undrinkable and the flimsy straw they gave wouldn't stir it.. I was going to go back and tell them, , but this being the second time this happened, and the thought of another a trip over the speed bumps again and resending my drink back to a Po'd employee to have re-mixed , I decided to just write a review. I don't like giving negative reviews- but hopefully they will read this and change. If you want the best malts currently, go to Fosters on Main street ( they are expensive- but great- but not everyone in town has malts anyway.). Wish Sonic could get it right- you can't be in such a hurry that you forget to blend a malt. You wouldn't think it was rocket science because you could see it in the clear cup and know it wasn't blended.
