Sonny's has been my absolute FAVORITE restaurant ever since I was 8 years old!!! I love all the servers there, cause they are so sweet. On Saturday, we had Liz and she was delightful! I been going to this exact Sonny's location ever since i was a newborn and it never gets old! The food is delicious and the entire atmosphere is warm and welcoming, though some days it is quite chilly, so bring a jacket in case! Today I got the new dragonfruit lemonade and I highly recommend it to people with sweet tooths like me. I always get the babyback ribs, which sometimes just falls off the bone and is one of my top cravings. The food was excellent (nice and tender meats) but the service was way too slow. It took about 45min. to get the food. We arrived about 1pm on Friday (a day after Christmas). The dining room was half full. All the meat were pre-cooked so why did it take so long? We were here 2 years ago, it took the same long time to get the food too. We ordered Baby Back Ribs with sides and garlic bread. The ribs were cold (they usually are) the garlic bread was placed on top of the ribs and baked beans so it had sauce all over it and was soggy. The last time we will use Sonnys. We buy once a month the family feast. Spend around $70 each time. Over time portions have gotten less. This feast is suppose to feed four. This time we got four ribs when we usually get eight. Brisket is now half it use to be as well the pork. The fries are half as they use to be. We have complained to management however they do not listen. They have lost a customer who spends $70 per month every month. May not hurt them however if we are fed up I am sure others are. read more

Sonny's is solid as ever after another successful visit. The baby back ribs were tender and tasty without being overcooked or dry. The fried okra was hot and fresh just as you want. The BBQ beans were also hot and fresh and the side salad is larger than you'd expect and enjoyable when you need some greens wih your BBQ. As always, the half and half sweet and unsweet tea was spot on giving me the taste of sweet tea with a little less sugar. So the food is good but unfortunately they don't have enough service In the drive thru so I waited about in line , I was the second in line . It took 15 mins to get the person in front order . When it was my turn I also had to wait after about 8 mins I decided to place the order online while I sat in line . After another 5 mins the person asked my order I said I placed it online and would have to now park And go inside to get it , so now my wait time has tripled and I have to park and go inside after waiting in line . Been wanting to get to Sonny's since returning to Jacksonville and it didn't disappoint! It was lunch on Sunday and the restaurant was nearly full. But even when near full the shop still has enough spacing to not give you that overcrowded feeling. The parking lot is a decent size but there are extra spaces in lots nearby. Service on then day was mostly good. Had a very courteous server who was responsive to our requests. We had two pulled pork dinners each with three sides. I chose coleslaw, baked beans and cornbread. All just as good as I remember it from four years previous! The helping portions were also sizable enough to make for two whole meals. I was very pleased with my experience here at this Sonny's. Sonny's has always been a go-to for hubby and I. As far as chain BBQ restaurants go, it's one the best in my opinion. We typically order pulled pork with mac & cheese, fries and garlic bread. Sometimes I'll switch to coleslaw or BBQ beans. The sweet Carolina is an awesome sandwich. The corn nuggets are a sneaky good little appetizer. This is the second time I have ordered a meal to go, and it seems they really don't care about food quality or pleasing the customer. First was ordered shortly after opening, and the food was just cold. Ever bite into a cold bbq sandwich on stale garlic toast? Not very pleasant, and the beans were cold as well. This time, the fries were cold and stale, because they were apparently from the day before. There is no way these were fresh fries. Just disappointing. Sonny's used to be quality food, but how can they serve food like this and expect people to return? We have a lot of bbq in this city- so a BIG chain like Sonny's is going to be hit or miss on any given day. Pros: I've had excellent service, food always comes out hot and fast Cons: Their sauce change years ago and it's just not the same, they discontinued numerous sides that I love- no baked potatoes and corn is no longer on the cob. AND the menu advertises corn nuggets with powdered sugar- but they don't actually serve them that way unless you ask. When other local places are closed- this is a super close back up. And for my whole life I've ordered the same thing, sliced pork big deal on garlic bread. Over the years the prices have gone up and portions down and overall i understand, it happens. It was yummy enough to keep coming back. But today? My "sliced pork" big deal was four slabs of barely edible meat. It's normally thinly sliced and a good portion. But this time it was four chunks of meat? Two of which were so full of fat i couldn't eat them. 15$ for fat? I'm disappointed. People, myself included, can't afford to pay 15$ for barely any meat. One of the worst customer service Restaurants we have ever been to. Although it was well pass lunch rush hour and we see waitresses walking back and forth, the hostess finally shows up. We chose the most prominent table to make sure we would be noticeable to the wait staff. After 3 waitresses stop by we finally find one to take the drink order. After that nothing for about 5 minutes. I get up and find the wait staff hiding behind a partition chatting with one another. Finally get a border south waitress with an attitude to take our order. Pork sandwich was OK, the sides were not good at all. Then we are quickly shown an electronic bill. Not sure how a pork sandwich and 2 iced teas added to $25. But we were in a rush, so just paid it. So - crappy service with an attitude, so-so food, and likely overbilled. I used to go Sonnys a few days a week, not sure what happened, outside of lazy disinterested wait staff. My husband and I went to this Sonny's BBQ for the third time in less than 2 weeks. We were totally BLOWN away by the Serving sizes of the $10 BIG DEAL Pork Sandwich with a side and a LARGE DRINK!!! This store is absolutely awful! Their staff are rude and will argue with you when they skip your order and blatantly serve other people before you. Took over an hour to get a basic order placed online. Watched people walk up and order at the counter and receive their food before I received my order. Then told me the order didn't populate on their screen even though I had an order number and a receipt. Then they said the order only had utensils on it which isn't even possible with their ordering system but will continue to argue that they don't have it. Awful service. I stopped by Sonny's BBQ after picking up plants at Home Depot as they were in the same shopping center. I used the drive-thru for convenience. I ordered the brisket platter with BBQ baked beans and mac & cheese. The meat was so tender and juicy it was falling apart which is just how I like it! It also had that lovely smoked taste....yum! The mac and cheese was creamy and smooth. The baked beans were packed with a lot of flavor. The piece of cornbread was a nice touch to the platter. The server at the drive-thru was friendly and efficient. I love that she wasn't stingy with the barbecue sauce packets:) I would suggest grabbing dinner from Sonny's as the food quality was good as well as the service. read more

We've had togo food from this location a few times, finally tried dining in and sat at the bar. The service was very good - friendly and knowledgable. The food came out fast and the meat was cooked well, it was tender and had a great smoked flavor. The beers were poured well and very crisp.
