Great service and tasty food! We stopped for lunch after a romp in the Ocala National Forest on our way back to Jacksonville. The ones in Jacksonville haven't any bragging rights after eating at this Sonny's is the best we've been! All staff was friendly....not just our waitress....we met a nice young man (I'm in my 60's) who was on break but stopped to speak with is. I didn't think to ask his name but I enjoyed our short chat. We go to the forest a lot and usually take sandwiches with us but I think we'll be stopping at Sonny's for a quick bite!! Thank you for an enjoyable lunch! read more

So I grew up going to this Sonny's, my review may be slightly biased. A trip home is not complete for me without a lunch or dinner at Sonny's. The big deal is simply that, a great big deal! A sandwhich of your choice on Texas garlic bread or a bun, large side and drink for around $8. The beef brisket is my absolute favorite, not to mention the cinnamon apples and corn nuggets!! This location was recently remodeled last year and now had a bar area for fast lunch service that looks pretty cool... Oh and did I mention a drive through?!? Sonny's in Palatka - pick up order - was shorted three Sides, given a dry and undercooked Sweet Potato. I scheduled a 6:15 Pick Up and was told by disinterested counter person that they would start pulling up the order at 6:15 when it " pops up on my screen". I sat in bar area while random employees, including kitchen help kept roaming around behind the bar counter. The most disappointing aspect was that I didn't encounter one employee who acknowledged me or greeted me throughout the whole process. I enjoy going to this Sonny's as I believe they have high quality food and service. I would have given a 5 Star rating had the server (Starlyn) we had this time been a little more timely (8 to 10 minutes after sitting before our drink order was taken) and ensured the request for condiments when we ordered food arrived with our food and we didn't have to ask a second time because the wrong ones were brought out the first time. I will go back again as this is a rare occurrence and Sonny's is a Veteran friend restaurant offering discounts. read more

Yuck...friggin yuck! The food is bland and the sauce is a joke. Not a good representation of good southern bbq. Staff is rude. Penny the manager a few years back was the rudest woman ever but I have to thank her because she's the reason I learned the art of smoking meats. I would drop off like 30 pounds of chicken to be smoked for church functions. When I'd pick it up Sunday afternoon it was in an aluminum pan sealed with foil so tight that the chicken boiled off of the bone. This happened many times. I kept going back hoping it was a fluke. What's happened? I've been here 30 to 40 times most of which during Covid and had a decent experience. This last visit was horrible. Almost impossible to get the basics like utensils or napkins. Had to wait extra extra long to get drinks and even longer to place our order. The food took unbelievably long as well. Everyone in our party had a mistake with their order. The food was horrible. The restaurant was very clean, our table for 5 was a spacious booth that would have been comfortable for 8. Our server was on queue- always. Our dinner was served promptly. The ribs were excellent. The sides were so much better than expected. Their bbq beans are tops among bbq places. Green beans, mac & cheese and corn bread earned raves from the family. Of course, the value was unbeatable. You will need to go elsewhere for obscure IPAs, craft lagers or beer 'with fruit', but you can't find a better destination for a bbq feast. read more

We ended up in the drive thru at Sonny's when we couldn't all decide or figure out what we wanted for dinner. I had no idea about Sonnys, I haven't eaten at this one in years. We are a family of 5, so I ordered the big family feat, unaware of how HUGE the portions were. We ate off of this meal for 2 days. We also were given a half gallon of sweet tea in place of the 4 sodas. Our order was under $60, everyone enjoyed the meats and the sides. The sides are waaaay bigger than the large size sides from places like KFC and Popeyes. We had no complaints and have put sonnys back on our list of frequent visits. read more

WOW! We enjoy finding the best BBQ places around the Savannah/Hilton Head area and on our way back from our Cruise, my buddy told me about this place, so we had to stop. My wife and I were amazed from the smoked pulled pork and chicken, the beans, mac and cheese, sweet patato and even the sweet tea!!! Prices were great along with the portion. Service was great and the manager even checked on us. Thanks Sonny's and keep it up, don't change anything!! There is one closer to Brunswick, GA and can't wait to try that one. read more

We ate there April 14. We had fried pickles, no sauce. He ordered a steakburger which it supposedly took longer but came out cold. I had the ribs (3) and chicken (2) small and two sides instead of three. We were not impressed with the place. We will not be back. One guy added things to the salad bar with no gloves on and wiped his hands on his pants when done. If there was a way to give no stars that's what I would put! I travel all over the southeast and I love Sonny's BBQ, but this place can never and I mean NEVER get an order right especially when you order the food to go or in the drive through! The last few times I have ordered food from here it's been wrong either the sides or the entrée, it doesn't matter something is always wrong! The first time they got me! I went all the way home and it was something I didn't order, so I drove back to the restaurant and they made it right & never said sorry or anything nice! So from there on out I always check my bag and it's always wrong! Today I sent my son and told him to check the bag make sure it's right but he no so when he got home it was wrong! I made him go back I ordered a half chicken all dark meat with a baked potato and slaw and I paid for it on line so my son wouldn't have to deal with it! Well they gave me a quarter chicken white meat with fries and Mac & cheese! No BBQ sauce no plastic forks no napkins nothing! I'm done with this Sonny's it's the worst one around! Sonny's is most always good. This one is nicely laid out and is a newer style. The food was prepared well and did Sonny's proud. Good food for the money. Had the ribs and they were cooked perfectly. The service on the other hand was poor. We may have gone at a bad time but everyone we interacted with seemed like they wanted to be somewhere else. I've been to my fair share of Sonny's BBQ'S. This one was perpetually particularly sauceworthy at best. There was a computer fiasco enduring at the premesis. They were in the process of upgrading the computer system which caused more problems than my mind was capable of processing. The cornbread was late and get this...so was the SILVERWARE! The silverware. Could you imagine? That's not the worst of it though. The so called: "rack of ribs" was an unpolished atrocity of epic proportions. Seven ribs is far from a full rack in my book. Any plotholes we mentioned to the waitress was then returned with an undercooked: "it's the computer." response. I also have a tendency to order an extra plate with my meal. Mainly due to the fact that what they consider a plate is a twelve inch circular item. It leaves no room for condiments of any kind! The plate was forgotten. Surprise-surprise.
