    Smoking Gun Sandwich (and fries)
    Sarah K.

We came here on a Sunday for lunch. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They weren't too crowded and we were seated right away.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was good. Our server was okay. The food came out quickly. We had the value meal (only $13!); sandwich, drink and side. The Smoking Gun Sandwich (beef, brisket, sausage) was good. The sausage wasn't that hot. The Pulled Pork Sandwich was fine. It was an average pulled pork sandwich. The value meal deal was a very good price for the amount you got.

We haven't stopped by this location in quite a while. I'm certainly glad that we did. The restaurant was clean and tidy. We were quickly greeted and seated. We ordered the "Big Deal". We opted for the Sliced Pork on a bun with fries. We also got an order of Fried Okra with some ranch dressing for dipping. The food came out in about 15 minutes and it was piping hot! Overall, the food was delicious. Our server was friendly and speedy. We also ordered a quart of their potato salad to go... because it's great! I can definitely recommend this location for lunch.

Yes, it's a chain and that's fine with me. Had a combo plate with ribs and pulled pork. Sides were slaw and sweet potato. They include garlic bread as well Every item was delicious, hence the 5 stars. BBQ is a tough business and this area has seen many BBQ restaurants close recently. Support the ones that are still around and have realistic expectations. BBQ is NOT meant to be a gourmet experience, just enjoy the food.

I miss having a Sonny's close to where I live. So glad to spot this one on my recent visit. Have to say the food was better than I remember and the guy serving me was fantastic. You can really tell a difference when you get an experienced server who enjoys their job and meeting people. Got my go to, half chicken dinner and bake beans and enjoyed every bite. May stop again next month when I am back in the area.

This is one of Florida's stable BBQ spots. Have been coming here for years. Food: They have several BBQ options and has changed over the years. Some good some just okay. But it is the sauce that really makes this BBQ really good. The meats have great season and great flavor but it the sauces that really make it really great. The baked beans is cooked to the way I like them and the famous garlic bread is what you can't deny. Service: This was a to-go order, therefore I didn't get to really interact with the staff but over the years, they have been really good and willing to assist you for what you need. Overall: If you haven't tried them, I recommend you do and hopefully you will be back for more for them to reopen some of their closed stores.

Sonny's big deal pulled pork on garlic toast w/ crispy fries!

Love Sonny's bbq! Plant City needs a new one! We miss you! Love everything I ordered! I love the Big Deal! It's a great deal. Sandwich, side n lg drink! I usually get pulled pork on garlic toast. It was great as usual! I love many side, today I got ff's. Sometimes I get okra or mac/chz. But I recommend anything on the menu!

What an excellent first experience at Elliott Aster! We went for my birthday after hearing great…read morereviews and it really hit the mark. The service and ambience were exceptional. The pull apart focaccia was a stand out alongside the Cesar salad. For mains we shared two of their most popular pasta dishes and they were cooked perfectly. The Cornichon asparagus was also a fun side to try out. For my birthday they brought out birthday cake ice cream with a candle alongside a hand written card. Will absolutely be back!

**A Disappointing Anniversary Dinner at Elliot Aster, Not the Michelin Level Experience We…read moreExpected** We visited Elliot Aster at The Vinoy last night to celebrate our anniversary, and while a few thoughtful touches stood out, the overall experience fell well short of what a restaurant with Michelin aspirations, and a $300 price tag, should deliver. I want to preface this by saying we are easygoing, forgiving people who rarely complain, so it takes a lot for us to leave a review like this. I was especially excited going in after reading the chef's bio, which references Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons. I dined there back in the late 90s, and it remains one of the best meals of my life, right up there with dinner at Alain Ducasse in NYC. That pedigree set my expectations high, though not unrealistic ones. Unfortunately, the execution at Elliot Aster did not come close to living up to that lineage. **The good:** The team acknowledged our anniversary with a card at the table and a glass of champagne with dessert. The filet was cooked perfectly, the gnocchi was well done, and dessert was excellent. **The not so good:** Nearly everything else. Getting to the restaurant itself was confusing. There was no valet greeting, no doorman, and no signage in the lobby pointing us to Elliot Aster, so we had to ask the front desk for directions. Once seated, service was disorganized from start to finish. We ordered cocktails while waiting for our table, and they took 45 minutes to arrive, after multiple follow ups and having to close out a bar tab before the drinks even showed up. My martini arrived nothing like the version advertised (one plain olive instead of the three blue cheese stuffed olives pictured on their own Instagram). Later, at the bar, a port and a beer sat forgotten for 20+ minutes before our server realized he had never brought them over. Our entrees also arrived before we had finished our cocktails, which felt rushed rather than paced for a fine dining experience. The octopus starter was well seared but the flavor combination felt scattered, and the truffle sauce on my filet had almost no truffle flavor, especially disappointing given the chef's pedigree. One small but telling detail: the decorative olive trees hanging over our table were visibly dusty, which was distracting and not something you want to notice at a white tablecloth dinner. No server mentioned a signature dish, made a recommendation, or referenced a sommelier. We never saw one on the floor. I also want to mention the dress code, or lack thereof. We understand we are in Florida, and a laid back approach makes sense here. But asking guests not to wear shorts or t-shirts does not seem unreasonable for a restaurant at this level. Gym clothes, which we saw on more than one guest, is simply not acceptable at this tier of dining. Having worked in the restaurant industry myself, I understand things go wrong, but this was a long list of avoidable missteps, not one off bad luck. Given the chef's background and the promise it suggested, this was a real letdown. The bar itself is gorgeous, and we had genuinely hoped this would become a regular spot for us, especially given the lounge menu. We were hoping for something reminiscent of La Belle Vie in Minneapolis, a place that held a special spot in our hearts. Unfortunately, based on this visit, we cannot recommend Elliot Aster or The Vinoy.

There's dedicated parking for the restaurant behind the building in the lot, plus metered street parking and garages within less than a block. The main entrance is on the side of the building, on 5th Street S just off 6th Avenue S. Outdoor seating is available, but I personally wouldn't choose it, sitting right next to a busy intersection with constant traffic and exhaust isn't my idea of enjoyable. That said, the interior ambiance alone is worth the visit. Inspired by the historic George Peabody Library and part of the Oxford Commons Hospitality group, the design is quirky, fun. The thoughtful mix of bookshelves, warm lighting, rich browns and deep blues, and the seamless blend of library, bar, and dining space creates a truly special atmosphere, especially if you love books. We visited as part of a large group for a special occasion dinner. They accommodated us on very short notice after our original plans changed due to possible rain and outside seating only at our first reservation, which was impressive. Our waitress was fantastic, she handled our entire table (and others) by herself with no buss person and still managed every order and individual request with genuine care and efficiency. I haven't tried breakfast, lunch, the morning coffee/pastry take-out window, or the bar yet, but the dinner experience was excellent. Fair warning: this is not a budget-friendly spot. If you're watching every dollar or might resent the food due to prices, it's probably not the place for you. It's ideal for special occasions or when you want to enjoy a meal without worrying about the cost, each dish/cocktail is in line with upscale dining in the area,it does add up quickly with drinks, apps, entrees, and sides, though I read they have happy hour. We ordered appetizers (shared), I also had the opportunity to sip a few cocktails (when offered), I also shared entrees, and sides with some of our group. Everything we tried was very good, there were not stand-outs, all was scrumptious, from the start of appetizers: the warm bread with its delicious butter spread, the roasted cauliflower, the spicy crispy shrimp, the Steak Frites, the perfectly cooked French fries, and the sautéed spinach, all of which I had a taste of personally. The portions looked modest on the plates but were surprisingly filling, many of us had leftovers to take home. We finished with the warm cookie and ice cream, which was hands-down amazing, especially with the perfect touch of flaky salt on top. The cocktails were strong and creative. My first choice (suggested by the waitress) wasn't quite to my taste, it was too tart and strong for me, but she immediately removed it from the bill and happily brought me something else I enjoyed much more. Overall, The Library delivers a memorable experience, amazing ambiance, a beautiful setting, attentive service, and excellent food. Next time I'm trying breakfast.
