This is the best Sonny's in Pinellas County bar none. Staff is great and most have been there a long time, and you can tell they are like family. Food is always fresh, not dry, and huge iced tea of course makes for a great BBQ meal. I always go here for my favorite salad bar in town which is packed with great choices including potato salad, broccoli salad, smoke chicken salad, tuna salad and the best krab salad I've ever had. The salad bar is always fresh and well kept at this location. Try getting the salad bar with a side of your favorite BBQ meat as a meal which I found hidden on the menu. This place reminded me of a bit higher-end Shane's Rib Shack. Fairly plain looking inside, but comfortable booths. Split the "ribs for two" special, so spent about $10 a person for about a half rack of two different varieties of ribs (preferred the dry rub), and three sides. Went there around 7:30 Friday Jan 12, 2018. Chedder's was packed and thought I'd get some sliced pork instead. Have a pork and pork special for $8-. The pulled pork was all mushy, rare cooked, and pre-sauced. Did not look like picture. Very salty also. The slice pork was sliced extra thin and was mushy also. Could of passed for ham......... Been here a few times for lunch and it is as busy as normal. I have also ordered chicken several times for lunch or dinner to give it a chance but it has always been really dry and replaced worth something else. Me and my wife ate at Sonny's. The service was great from the bartender. Unfortunately my wife had the brisket sandwich and she didn't enjoy it at all. The brisket was a bit tough which is very unusual for a brisket. My turkey plate was not bad, I've had better but I'm not here to bash the place just give helpful feedback to improve. Terrible service for takeout order. I went in to Sonny's BBQ during lunch and attempted to order for takeout. The waitress acknowledged me when I sat down to order. It was not busy (I was the only one at the bar). The waitress took a phone call. I asked her a question while she was on the phone. She said I will be with you soon. Later a guy walked in dressed with white shirt and slacks. She immediately took his order. I told her about waiting on him before me and walked out. We gave it three chances to see if the service had improved, but with no luck. Walked out last night without even receiving any request for our drinks. Tried you guys for the first time Friday after trying so many other BBQ places and walking away disappointed. I wish we had sooner because the brisket and the corn nuggets were amazing. I'm a Texas girl so I can be really picky. The real star of the night though was our Waitress Jo. I have never seen a waitress hustle as much as she did. I am so used to just seeing whoever is serving us maybe twice during dinner at whatever place we are at, but she was out there constantly while we were there and made sure we, as well as the other tables around us, were well taken care of. Went here for lunch before heading to TPA to board my plane home. Was ok......kinda reminded me of a Famous Dave's, which we have in Michigan. Coleslaw and pulled pork was good.....but my fries were old and cold. Service was good, waitress took care of us without being intrusive. Went to Sonny's today with my friend for lunch/dinner. It was that perfect time of the day, on a Saturday, when there was almost no one else in the building. The food was good and the service was excellent, it made for a very nice dining experience. My friend had the brisket and I had the pulled pork along with crinkle cut fries and baked beans and garlic bread. The pulled pork was tender, juicy, and delicious; the fries were crisp and a great accompaniment to the pulled pork. However, the baked beans had a quite a bit more pepper, than normal, and they were quite spicy. Our server, Danielle, was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed having her wait on us during this dining experience. We will definitely be returning to that location. The price is always a reasonable at Sonny's. The total amount of the check with tip was right around $30. read more

Our dinner tonight was awful and so was the sevice. Raw broccoli, overcooked chicken and potato and my daughter's pulled chicken sandwich looked like congealed canned chicken. After sending back the chicken, it looked ok but she wouldn't eat it because the waiter just dropped it on the table without saying a word, like we were bothering him. So disappointing, we just wanted to grab a quick bite and catch up with each other and instead we were grossed out and irritated. I called back after we got home to talk to the manager because it was really bothering me how we were treated and I felt like Crystal didn't want to hear it either. She said she would leave a 25 dollar gift card for us which was nice and almost covered our meals that we didn't eat, but she said we should have talked to her there and our waiter is good and has been there a long time.... basically, must be us. The food was outstanding, but the fact they do not offer wifi, especially for patrons who come there at lunch is a big miss. Alot of people today work at lunch and cannot function without the Internet. I asked the bar tender about wifi and he stated management does not allow anyone to use the wifi except for "training purposes" (whatever that means). We went to order take out for our family and were told we could not order kids meals for our kids unless we came in and sat down to eat. We were not allowed to order kids meals through the drive thru or carry out. The manager advised it is a new corporate policy. I can only assume it is to prevent adults ordering kids meals. They are apparently losing so much money from adults trying to get one over on them through the drive thru that they are willing to lose entire orders because of it. We ended up at Cheddars instead where my six year old and 22 month old can get meals designed for kids. Yes, we could order an adult meal and split it, but we shouldn't have to. Family visiting from New York and stopped in to try Sonny's after reading the reviews. Wow for the price this place is 5 stars hands down. Bought the all-you-can-eat St Louis style dry rubs and they were fantastic, fall off the bone and great flavor to match. You won't find better bbq at this price anywhere as far as I'm concerned. Sonny's bbq sauces were also delicious, I really liked the "sizzlin' sweet". My wife had brisket and my daughter pulled pork and both were very solid. I don't know what more you could ask for this place is the real deal and the prices are unbeatable. All you can eat ribs for 13.99!! This used to be a great BBQ spot, but about a year ago they started to go down hill. They remodeled and now that it looks better, the food is not as good. The salad bar has suffered the worst, They used to have great homemade macaroni and potato salad. Now it school cafeteria quality. They go trid of some of the offerings. The crab salad dressing is worse. I used to get beef brisket that was "pulled." Now it is chopped, and I swear to God it looks like dog food, smells and tastes like it too. If I didn't know the waitress from years of going there I would've suspected her of giving canned pet food. There have been other bad changes as well, I assume to save money. Well now we're going to save our money and go elsewhere. And we used to go 2-3 month! Our extended family and so many others we've talked to feel the same way. Went to Sonny's tonight after a trip to the movies. 10 of us were seated by 7:30 and informed that they were out of RIBS (only baby backs available). We grumbled a bit, after all this was a BBQ restaurant known for ribs. Everyone adjusted their menu selections and then our server returned to tell us that the kitchen was now out of CHICKEN (only pulled chicken available). He recommended the sliced turkey instead. I completely cancelled my order, while everyone else worked around yet another snafu on part of the management/kitchen team. Being out of the standard ribs, we were charged an 'up-charge' when our friend asked for baby back ribs as a part of their combo meal. They are out of too much, on a Sunday night at 7:30. The turkey was dry, and the up-charge was a real no deal for me. The management messed up on their planning and we get charged for an up sell? Disappointing and wont go back to ANY location. BBQ isn't hard to do wrong, and they certainly accomplished that! Our server, however, was fantastic. read more
