Hadn't eaten there in a while. Went 2 times last week and twice this week also. Service was excellent and fast. Had several different wait staff and the service was consistent with each visit. The food is always good. It's of course a chain restaurant so you should expect consistency with other Sonny's you've visited. They recently redecorated and it has definitely come out of the Stone Age. Modern, gorgeous, and a neutral palette. Stopped in for a quick lunch after a doctor's appointment in town. Sonny's has always been one of those "guilty pleasures" when in Somerset and has never failed to satisfy my "quick BBQ" appetite. I had the Super Combo for lunch which featured pulled pork, beef brisket, ribs and a couple of pieces of smoked chicken, along w/sweet potato and cole slaw. I don't usually review restaurants after only one visit, but I had to say something about the "burger" I enjoyed at Sonny's a couple of weeks ago. Just visiting the area, I didn't know that Sonny's is a regional chain restaurant - in the spirit of honesty, I probably wouldn't have visited had I known - but I'd have missed out on one seriously decadent and tasty burger and what is (apparently) the best mac 'n' cheese in Somerset. The actual burger patty was the only boring part of my meal - was fine, but needed seasoning (particularly pepper), hence the quotes. The bun, pulled pork, bacon, smoked sausage, onion straws - all combined to a decadent, almost perfect, heart attack-inducing meal. While the "burger" was awesome, a runny fried egg above the pulled pork and below the bacon / smoked sausage would have been even more epic...Just sayin'. Mac and cheese was great - none of the Velveeta Mac and Cheese blah that seems to be standard in this area. Server was very friendly (I'm fairly sure that she called me "Sweetie" or "Hon" more than most men I dated) and helpful. Plenty of parking. Set back off of 27, though. read more

Best ribs that I think I've ever eaten. The all-you-can-eat deal for $15.99 is totally worth it! I got the dry rub ribs, which were delicious and flavorful without using BBQ sauce. Hostess seated us in the very back at a dirty table with no paper towels. My arms stuck to the table. I asked the waitress if we could move to a table that wasnt sticky. She said that she just cleaned it. I'm sure she did but apparently they dont know how to clean. Wiping off a table is not cleaning years of grime, dead skin and food off of it. We were moved to a different table that was also sticky to the touch but I lost my appetite. If they cant clean a table right, its no telling what the kitchen looks like and what is going into your food. I dont care if the table is old or what your excuse is. Tables should NOT be sticky. That is disgusting! My husband was very hungry and didnt want to leave so he ordered anyway. Food was decent but way overpriced. read more

I had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant this evening and having Natasha as a server. I am from out of town and visiting my dad. We tried to go to another restaurant and they closed early. But oh my goodness, so glad we ended up here. We were seated, had our dinner, and out the door within 30 minutes. She never rushed us, but gave incredible service. This is a compliment to both Natasha and the kitchen staff working hard. This was especially appreciated during this time of difficulty in the service industry! Great experience and very good covid precautions. Had to wait in car until table opened but it was a short wait. We had brisket, chicken and smoked turkey and an appetizer. All were excellent--especially the chopped brisket. Staff was very helpful and served us quickly. Will go back often. read more

Last week (9-12) I decided to treat myself to one of my favorite meals and went to Sonny's. When you are on a fixed income, it is a CHOICE. As usual, the brisket was mouthwatering! HOWEVER, my sides were far below par! The sweet potato was tough and overcooked and the corn on the cob tasted of bleach! The food was outstanding. I had picked out the beef brisket, 2 sides and garlic bread from the menu yesterday for lunch and was going to pay $11.99 but was surprised to find out they had the lunch price at $7.99. yay. It was so much food as you can imagine. The brisket was great and the macaroni and cheese was great. The sweet baked potato was by far the best I've ever had. Where they lacked was service. Our waitress was not very attentive. I asked for a BIG to go box and she brought back one big enough to put half my food in so when she finally came back I asked for another. It was just like pulling teeth trying to get her attention. She didn't ask how we wanted our check so, of course, she had it all together. On my own on a business trip I had a hankering for some ribs all day. And I wanted to catch the UNC game on a TV. Luckily Sonny's was fairly well reviewed and really the only BBQ joint around. So thinking I'd sacrifice the game I was surprised they had a decent bar and TV setup. I got the Ribs Sampler: combo of baby back and dry rub ribs. Baby backs were SPECTACULAR! Dry rub was good (not great). But the real winner: the just-a-touch-sweet but - oh - so - tastee cornbread muffin. Ah! Bar staff was average. Called me sweetie. Hate that crap. But she was OK overall. I'm looking forward to trying the pork next time to see if it meets my standards. Those short ribs sure did. Price was more than fair for the food, it was hot and a healthy portion. read more

Sonny's is one of my favorite places to eat at in Somerset. Don't let the fact that it's a regional chain keep you from trying it. They have so many different items and they are all so delicious, I would be hard pressed to pick just one "favorite". I absolutely love the beef brisket and the "Smokin Gun" is a great sandwich. The smoked turkey is also very tasty. And of course the ribs are absolutely delicious! They have a great selection of items to choose from, ribs, chicken, pork, beef, turkey, sandwiches, burgers, even shrimp. For an appetizer, the red neck egg rolls and fried okra are awesome. You also get a choice of garlic bread or cornbread muffin with your meal. The garlic bread is great but if your getting the brisket, I recommend trying the muffin, it goes together great. They also have the best cole slaw I've ever eaten & the mac and cheese is delicious. They make their own bbq sauces from sizzling sweet to smokin, it's fun to mix and match to create your own personal favorite. I promise you will enjoy coming to this place again & again to try all of the delicious bbq options they offer. The only reason I gave Sonny's 4 stars & not 5 is the difference in portions and quality from dining in and the drive thru. I've never had a bad experience dining inside. The staff has always been courteous & efficient and the food portions generous & tasty. There has been times when getting take-out that the quality & portion size were definitely not the same as we got when dining inside. Me and my husband went to Sonny's late yesterday, this was the second time we visited the place. The food is great, they have a great variety of dishes, including pork portions, turkey, chicken, etc. The variety or beer is limited, and one of the things that did absolutely did not like, both times I visited the glasses were so dirty. I believe their washing procedures are not right, because I had to ask the waiter more than once to change our glasses. This is certainly a big disappointment, since for me a clean place is first. This place was recommended by the staff of the hotel we stayed at while we were visiting the area. This restaurant features BBQ and appears to have a reputation around that area of the country. We had the burger, and brisket with the salad bar. It was decent enough, but wasn't anything mind blowing and extraordinary. I was hoping the salad bar would have had more topping choices, including soup. The pricing was reasonable. The service was adequate as well. All in all, it would be a place I would possibly try again if I were in the area. But, more than likely, I would try another place that also looked decent and was also recommended to us. read more

This is the practically the only BBQ restaurant in Somerset. For the majority it's always good. Sometimes I get a meal that could have been better but I love it. My favorite drink is the lake water. It's half sweet tea and half pink lemonade. One of my favorite things to order actually isn't on the menus. It's the beans and franks. You should try it. read more

Hold the SALT. For a chain restaurant... Not terrible but I think they dusted salt on and in everything. My freaking broccoli was like a salt lick. Who does that to Broccoli? Whatever, anyways... This is a fun time if you're into watching people. Good selection of interesting people in there. The fact that they can serve up all you can eat ribs for under 15 bucks is insane. I was starving. I travel for work so I'm always looking for the local places that I may never see again. First impression driving up was that this place is a compound. Very large building that you wouldn't have expected. Service was a little slow at the beginning but VERY friendly. It was suggested that I get the brisket but I had my eyes on the smoked wings. They had a combo with the wings and pulled pork so that's what I went with. Wings were some of the best I've had (and I've had plenty). The pulled pork was good not great. They have 4 BBQ sauces. One (the sweet) tasted pretty traditional. The other three had a unique taste that I've never experienced at other BBQ restaurants. Fries were fresh and crispy. Broccolli was very bland.
