Over cooked, very small portions excessive service charges! Not enjoyable at all won't be ordering any time soon!

When we stay at the Disney Vero Beach Resort, I know there is one place that will feed 6 people some down home cooking BBQ. That is Sonny's BBQ. Sonny's BBQ is all over Florida! This particular Sonny's BBQ is about 7 miles away from the Vero Beach resort. I have my family plus girlfriends in tow. After a full day of swimming, I have everyone telling me they are hangry! Pulling into the parking lot, its welcoming site. Once we're seated at a large booth, its a no brainer to order the family BBQ platter. This platter has 3 sides, big monster gulp teas and a variety of smoked meats. Throw in the salad bar? Play time is over and we're all in the zone. All said and done, UNDER $60 bucks to feed us all. Very easy once you plug the directions into the Waze. If you're on A1A and heading North, Sonnys is real close to 95 on the left side. The bushes need to be trimmed because we drove right by it. Not impressed. We ordered pull pork and a brisket sandwich with fries. Both entrees were cold and lacked any flavor. We were quite disappointed. Even the soda was flat. I thought Sonny's was slightly better than 14 Bones BBQ. I went close to closing and was surprised by the delicious taste and texture of meats, especially for a chain BBQ restaurant. Ordered the pulled pork plate to go. 01/01/23 @ 3:15 pm. The pork was good the Cole slaw was good and the okra tasted good. But everything was served cold. The okra was the worst and the styrofoam box had holes in it as if the okra had been microwaved and melted the box. Not too cool. This is the second time I have waited at the drive thru with no response. Then I drove to the pickup window and nobody would take my order there either. I have to eat in the dining room about once a week when I meet with a business associate (it's convenient). The service there has been on a steady decline. I'm not sure if it's the lack of training, supervision or an "I don't care attitude, but it's not good. The best thing I can say is the food is just okay. If you're looking for BBQ, do your self a favor and treat yourself to better food and a better experience at 14 Bones, Wes Backyard or Somkehouse. read more

Today is Friday, September 27. I received an email promotion of a buy one get one barbecue sandwich. So I pulled up and made the order in the drive-through for two beef brisket sandwiches. The girl took my order and said drive around to the window. When I got to the window after having waited behind three cars, the manager told me he could not honor that deal for beef brisket. Only for a regular sandwich. That was not in the email. I said well that's on you because nobody told me that when I made the order. He said nope I'm not gonna honor it. I said "all right. I'm not gonna get anything." But I gotta tell you I think that's really poor management, poor customer service, poor business savvy. Because now instead of singing, the praises of Sonny's barbecue, I'm crying the blues. And I'm gonna tell as many people about this as possible. I've gone here several times over the past 8 months. Sometimes it's great and sometimes it's terrible. Today I got the brisket sandwich and every piece was 100% fat. Placed an order for 10 people for my staff at my medical office. Placed a curbside order at 11:40, food was ready in about 30 minutes, which we were very happy with. However, we were missing a rib lunch, two of our salads did not have meat on them, one of the salads did not come with the correct dressing, our sweet potato without any butter and we were missing wings. Called and let them know, they said we could come back and the rest of the food. Our medical rep left at 1 to go get the food and they said it would be ready by then. It wasn't until 1:40 that they put the rest of food in and our rep had to wait there 40 minutes for everything else. Some of our employees waited over 2 hours for lunch. Showed up for curbside takeaway. Checked in. After 15 minutes of waiting, went inside to find out where my order was as the text said it was ready before I even arrived. Waited another 10 minutes just to speak to someone. The order was sitting on the counter since before I arrived, and no one was bringing it out. Once we got it home, the sandwich was soggy, and the half chicken meal was like eating rubber. Very disappointed. My friend and I were in Vero Beach for the weekend and ate here one evening and had a great time. The décor of the restaurant reminds you of an old school diner. Their Southern Hospitality alone earned a star on it' own. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and they filled our large iced teas to go after we finished our meal. WOW.COM Now to that delicious food. I ordered the BBQ ribs with mac and cheese and pork and beans. My least favorite was the mac n cheese that we thought was baked but it appeared to be out of the box. My friend asked to change her mac n cheese side because she didn't like it and our waitress did so without any hesitation or attitude. The rest of my meal was absolutely delicious. My ribs were nicely seasoned that I didn't need to use their selection of BBQ sauces on the table. My beans were tasty and hit the spot. The sweet iced tea reminded me of my grandma's from the South not too sweet. Our waitress offered to refill our tea to go and I almost fell out of my chair. A free refill to go, woo hoo. As you can tell it doesnt take a lot to get me happy but I was thankful. Living in NYC you get nickel and dimed for everthing, so her gesture was truly refreshing. Tried Sonnys BBQ for the first time tonight. I enjoyed the Redneck egg rolls, which had pulled pork, cheese, coleslaw all tucked nicely inside an egg roll and fried. Yum! The corn fritters were sweet and fried to perfection. They come out piping hot, be careful. I ordered a brisket sandwich on garlic bread and tried the mild BBQ sauce which is on the table amongst a variety of sauces to choose from. For dessert I enjoyed the Banana Pudding which I shared and still couldn't finish. It's a good amount of pudding...... The drinks are XXL and they offer you a to go drink when you leave which is a nice touch. Next time I'm in Vero Beach I'll be back at Sonnys! read more

Decided to stop in and have dinner Saturday night after a tiring day in the sun at a local baseball tournament. We made it in just before closing around 9:30 and we were so thankful they were willing to sit our party of 7 and allow us to order. Our waitress was great. She was attentive and very nice. Some waitresses would have been annoyed that we came in just before closing but she was honestly great. I had to deduct a star because they were all out of ribs, brisket and sliced pork. (Which for a barbecue spot?!) our group was really hoping to munch down on some of these but honestly it ended up being just fine as we ordered other things on the menu! I had the 1/4 rotisserie chicken and pulled pork with the mac & cheese, corn on the cob and corn bread sides. It all delicious. No one had any complaints about anything other than necessary getting what they originally hope for. But other than that, if we are ever in Vero Beach again we will be sure to stop by again (hopefully a little earlier) and crush some good barbecue! read more

I have been eating at different Sonny's BBQ's all over Florida for years. They are very consistent and they have great flavors. I am a huge fan of the Corn Nuggets (try with Mustard BBQ sauce) and the big St. Louis Ribs. They have an all you can eat special one day of the week. Well worth skipping a meal to go there for dinner and go hard at those ribs. Of course the service varies from server to server but the food is consistently good. In these times where we are all doing a lot more take out and delivery, more often than not something is missing or messed up and you have to decide if it's worth your time to fix it or let it go. I had the Sweet St Louis Rib dinner and chose mac & cheese (rare for me...) and steamed broccoli as my side dishes. Overall the food was fresh and flavorful. I had both the wet sauce and dry rub ribs. Both were equally good. The ribs were meaty and cooked perfectly. Update! I have waited to send this update to ensure it was true. In the past the food was mediocre and the service...well, to be generous, you might occasionally find a server that would give average service but typically the service was awful. Literally would not see servers on the entire floor for 15-20 minutes and would walk up to bar to request bill so I could leave. Would normally see server twice. Take order and relief food. I have recently been to this location now 6 times and it appears like a completely different group of servers and they all have a completely different attitude. What a breath of fresh air. Ordered online...in a word, DON'T. Ordered a Steakburger platter....got meat, cheese and a bun. Didn't even get the pickle on the side. Trying to find where the "numbered" parking spaces for curbside pick-up was a hoot. The signs were all knocked down, and the "number" was about one inch high. I never wrote reviews so this is saying something. I've been to several Sonny's around florida and I've never had an issue until the Vero Beach location. Every time I make an order it always (I mean always) gets messed up. The service is absolutely terrible as well. Well, I'm sorry to say yesterday afternoon was my last visit to Sonny's. :( The pluses are the service is still stellar, the BBQ still very good, and your food hits your table super fast. The negatives are relatively new but are disappointing enough to lose our business. Over the past few months, we've noticed big cutbacks on the salad bar: no more pepperoncini, shredded cheese replaced the chunk cheese, etc. Of course there are cutbacks everywhere so I guess we're all getting to expect that. The next thing was that both the sweetener for the tea and the hand wipes now need to be requested and are no longer on the table. Not a big deal until you need them and have forgotten to ask for them and you are thirsty or your hands are a mess. And speaking of the big deal....that used to come with your drink and a side...well, that is now an upcharge. And yesterday was the final straw....I ordered the same thing I always order (yep, I'm boring that way) salad bar with sliced brisket and then asked the waitress what kind of soup they had that night because soup comes with the salad bar....not anymore because they don't carry soup AT ALL anymore...really???!!! Yep really. Even that New Brunswick stew that I don't care for but my husband loves that is (excuse me WAS) one of their signature items. So of course since they have cut out 1/3 of the meal, they dropped the price right? Nope, all prices have increased. Well, I just read the addendum to my review to my mother since she was with my yesterday and that reminded me...as we walked up to the door, we saw a paper taped to the door that read: " we have NO pork today..no sliced OR pulled pork". No, I am not kidding....the BBQ restaurant had NO PORK. My mother is elderly and always orders pulled pork as it is easier to chew...she ordered the chopped brisket and that worked ok for her but still uber weird to have no pork. I'm sad to lose one of my favorite places due to the major changes. I just want to reiterate that the service still cannot be beat....Sonny's has always had and continues to have some of the best servers around and I hope that all these cutbacks don't affect them too negatively as most of them have worked there for a very long time.
