Sonny's is an established BBQ place in Florida so when traveling you can usually know what to expect. I ordered a salad with smoked Turkey on it; the salad was already dressed and then the Turkey was put on top. At 1st I was like "oh no" but it was perfectly dress...not too much or too little ranch dressing on it! The veggies were cut nicely too; seemed to be just enough Turkey on top-moist not dry. As much of a "salad snob" ( my families nickname for me) I was pleased! My husband got sliced pork, baked beans and Cole slaw; he was very please too. Horrible customer service. Was seated at a dirty table and had to wait for it to be cleaned when there were plenty of other tables in the place. Our server Saradan was slower than molasses and I observed another one of his tables getting up to find him to ask for a refill after asking him twice for it. The table behind us commented on how forgetful he was and they waited for their check for 15 minutes. He dropped our food off and never checked back on us. Never got refills. I think Sonny's is ranked so low because Yelp isn't as widely used as other places here. That being said I've avoided this place due to the low reviews but I'm so glad I have it a try anyway. Food: The St. Louis dry rubbed ribs are my absolute favorite - juicy, little fat and seasoned well. I also ordered the ribs and 1/4 chicken and the chicken was great as well. The chicken was not dry but it did lack a little seasoning that the original sauce more than made up for. We also ordered green beans, Mac n cheese and the baked beans as sides, and the green beans and baked beans were the stars of the show. The green beans weren't terribly soft and were seasoned well. The baked beans were the perfect touch of sweet without being overly sweet (I don't like sweet) and seasoned well. The cornbread is my favorite vs the bread which makes it hard to limit my gluten. Service: I've never dined in but I have no complaints. The food was hot and ready for curbside pickup at the time quoted online. All in all, don't pass up on this place just because of a few low rankings. I will say compared to Dickey's, Sonny is definitely a better choice. I haven't found BBQ in the Wesley Chapel area that beats Sonny's yet! read more

This Sonny BBQ is better than the one at Busch Blvd. I mean they are better because the way to preserve the juiciness of the meat. We have been here before. But today is the the tax day special, and we decided to take the advantage. The tax day special is $6.99 for the St. Louise rib and two side all day during the tax day. Good deal. Some of the Sonny prepared the over cook or dry, but not at this place. I also like their slice pork. Especially the all you can eat slice pork deal. If you are hungry enough, it is a good choice for you. Plenty of food for money. This is about 3.5 stars restaurant. Thy service is good and the food delivery is less than 7 minutes. Very fast. Haven't dined here in a while and I like the newly renovated dining room. I had the 3-meat combo with the sliced pork, smoked wings and jalapeño sausage along with the Fried Okra appetizer and it was probably the best BBQ meal I've had at Sonny's. The pork was fatty, tender and juicy, the wings and sausage were good and the okra was on point. I enjoyed the meal, our server was prompt and attentive. Sonny's has always been a family favorite. The food and service at this location has been great. The restaurant was clean and not overcrowded. Lots of available seats for many visitors. Let me start by saying it's probably been 8 years since we visited here. It's now remodeled and I've been seeing positive reviews in a fb group I belong to so we decided to give it a try. As you can see by my stars it was a great decision. Did curb side and the guy who brought it out reminded me to check the order before leaving. Very nice and friendly. The stars of the show were the proteins. Dry rubbed St Louis ribs were perfectly seasoned and tender, smoked wings delicious and the chopped brisket amazing once it was sauced. The corn bread is now a muffin with corn kernels. Very good. Mac and cheese reminded me of Stouffers but it was tasty. You should give it a try. We will be back. read more

This evening I stopped by this Sonny's on my way home from work. I ordered 1lb of sliced brisket and a side of okra. My wife loves the okra there and I portion my meals out. I expected to get four 4oz portions of brisket for my meals for tonight and tomorrow. I found that I was given 11.9oz of meat, should've been 16oz. Out of the 11.9oz of meat there was 2.4oz of sliced fat. So I was left with just a little over half a pound of edible meat for the price of a whole pound. It was in plain site and wasn't hidden within the slices of meat. It was slices of fat that could've and should've been removed! This is unacceptable from any food business. I contacted the store manager, Terria, and told her my situation for her to resolve for me. Her solution was to mail me a $5 gift card and to tell her preparers to pay better attention next time. I do not feel that this is the proper response I should've received given that she also requested that I send her pictures of the food I was given. Sonny's used to be one of my favorite places to eat. As of now I don't plan on going to another Sonny's BBQ again and will be sure to add this to every other social media outlet I'm involved with. This level of customer service is pathetic at best. Originally I was going to let the manager handle this. Since I started writing this review I've also added these comments to their website survey and have located several email addresses for people higher up in their corporate headquarters to voice this problem to. Old, kind of run down looking restaurant. Been there a few times for baby back ribs they are good, not great. But enjoyable enough to come back. This time I decided to try the chicken and ribs. The highlight of our dinner was the fact we were full. The ambiance as soon as we walked in was uncomfortable and seemed like the staff hated each other. Our server never asked how anything was, got an order wrong, and never came around to refill our water and didn't even ask if we wanted desert. French fries tasted like cardboard and I swear the portions have definitely changed since before the pandemic. Stopped in at this sonnys on our way back from Tampa and got seated pretty fast. We sat and waited for a waitress to come take our drink order for over 30 mins!! The place wasn't even busy and I believe that the girls working were to busy talking in the back to care that we even had not been helped. Finally flagged down another girl from the other side to finally take our drink order and our food order. Food was very good even though the quantity for the price was horrible. Had to wait another 30 mins just for our check and got sick of waiting for the waitress to return with the receipt and so we just ended up leaving so that we could get back on the road in a timely manner. Overall the place is nice and the food was good just very expensive for the portions. The waitstaff on the other hand definitely need a lesson on customer service and a boot in their behind to speed them up. read more

After picking my brother up from the Flying J, (He's a trucker), we headed up to the next exit for lunch. BBQ is always a good choice, so we stopped into Sonny's and ordered food. The service was good, even though getting the food from the kitchen seemed slow. I think that's because they actually had to make my brother's smoked chicken salad. I was surprised by the three star rating, because this Donny's location is far better than the one near our home. Of course we only had salad bar, so maybe that's the difference. Here we were served bread of choice with our salad bar. All of the salad fixings were neat and plentiful. Our server, Francisca was charming and attentive. Really wanted to give a 4 star review because the food was amazing! However the hostess wasn't the friendliest upon our arrival. Even worse, as we were leaving we saw into the kitchen area where NO ONE had their masks on their face. Everyone was wearing it on their chins. This is extremely disappointing and scary considering everything that is going on right now. We will not be back, anytime soon. It's been quite awhile since we've visited Sonny's. Previous visits had been lackluster. However, this visit was on point. The dry rub ribs were the best I've had in years. James, our server was super attentive and food flew out. Hubs had all you can eat ribs and he kept him stocked. Here we try to help a small local business by ordering from Wesley chapel restaurant during hard times and we had a terrible terrible delivery. We ordered online. We were told accepted. Door dash was your delivery service. We gave them a tip online although we assumed we would receive the time given of 4:58. We were charged a service charge for what not told up front. We were charged a delivery charge for a very late delivery. We were automatic fill tip of 15% why would this happen especially since the delivery person did a terrible job. We got our food by the drive at 5:17pm The problem the driver went somewhere other than the correct road because she picked it up shortly after your pick up and then arrived very later we live 5 miles from your Wesley chapel restaurant so she took 45 minutes to go 5 miles. Perhaps she used dog sled! Our food had no bbq sauce as promised. Your ribs were dirt dry and ice cold. Your pulled pork was ice cold and bone dry. Your corn, beans, biscuits all ice cold. French fries ice cold and soggy. It was terrible we had to recook everything. No extra bbq sauce as you normally add and not Togo napkin or fork. How terrible to send food out this way. The pulled pork was terrible all fat and bland. No bbq sauce like it was several days old. We were charged a service fee of 4.84 but not told about it We were charged a delivery fee of 5.00 not told up front Then I was nice to give a tip up front never again of 4.84. Why was a charge for service, tip and delivery for dry, ice cold food that took 1.15 hours and only 5 miles away? I will never use your restaurant again and will yelp this entire situation. They did use door dash and the driver took a long way to deliver when we live 5 miles away. This is so sad we tried to help your business and like for a terrible experience so sad. Sonny's BBQ is one of my favorite restaurants to eat in. The food is almost always great, and the majority of the staff are nice. Some days, like about a week ago when I went, they run out of almost everything. At that time there were no kid's color menus, no sweet potatoes, they were low on straws, and more. Our server, though, whose name was Hannah, was very sweet and even gave us a free dessert of banana pudding with vanilla wafers and whipped cream to make up for it. The restaurant itself is clean, except for the bathroom which is kind of smelly and messy. I will say that I miss how they used to give you long squares of cornbread instead of tiny cornbread muffins, like they do now. I would rate the Bruce B.
